Well I just went to my 34 week appointment, and both me and my midwife were quite surprised. I'm measuring at 37 weeks! So at my 36 week appt she is having me do a growth ultrasound just to see the actual size of the baby. It's making me nervous because DH was a 9 lb baby!

@MrsBrewer: I think sometimes it depends on baby's position.
I had a mostly good appointment today. I am measuring 35w (on track), weight was ok, my BP great, HB great, baby's head down...all good. I had my GBS swap test and an internal exam. Doc said I am a fingertip dilated, 50% effaced, cervix soft, med position. Then he made a comment though about how as a second time mom with things looking favorable, I could consider an elective induction at 38-39 weeks. I didn't really hear him, but he made some f/u comment like, "Just to dangle that carrot out there for you." I was really surprised by that. I have never heard of elective inductions before 39 weeks, and I still didn't think they were really recommended? On the one hand, Julia was almost 9 lbs and now I have the prolapse issue, so it's kind of appealing to think about having this baby earlier (and maybe he is basing the 38w on her ultrasoubd measurements, which showed her 1 week ahead), but it also make me question his judgement a little?? He is the same doc who delivered Julia and I like him, so I'm not sure what to think. There are 3 other OBs I see in the same practice, so I will see what they say. I don't think I'd consider it until 39w and only if things were more favorable than now (e.g., very high Bishop score).

@MrsBrewer: me and both my siblings and DH and his sister were all over 9 lbs (my sister was almost 10!) so I have a feeling I'll be having a big baby myself!

@Meltini Welcome back!
@MrsBrewer I wouldn't neccissarily trust a sizing ultrasound at this point in pregnancy. They're known to be VERY inaccurate this far along. So, just take it with a grain of salt not a definitive answer on the baby's size. Baby's position plays a huge role in how you measure at the end, so he/she could have just been stretched out.
@78H2O That's so weird! I'd ask whoever you're seeing next week.
coconut / 8854 posts
@78h2o: @Mrs.KMM: @MamaB: I've definitely heard that position can play a big role, but I do also think it's a big baby. I have gotten so uncomfortable in these last 2 weeks, I think the baby went through a huge growth spurt!
@78h2o: Hmm that's interesting that your doctor said that. Would you go along with an early induction?
coconut / 8861 posts
@MrsBrewer: I've had friends go in for growth ultrasounds and have average size babies at 6-7 lbs. Were they able to feel your belly to get an idea of your LO's size? I found that to be more accurate than an ultrasound with a really well trained OB.
@78h2o: Wow, I can't believe that you're already effaced and a little dilated. I'm not looking forward to the checks starting next week. I'm debating if I can say no to them. I really want this guy to hit his due date of June 1 to get a June birthday for some reason. I'm totally fine with going later this time around. If I could sleep all of the month of May I would, I'm so over pregnancy right now.

Interesting how different doctors are. I won't have another dating ultrasound. And they won't even give me an idea of baby's size either!
coconut / 8854 posts
@cascademom: Yea she was kind of feeling around for a little bit on my belly, and she said it definitely felt like a big baby, but she didn't give me any estimates or anything.
coconut / 8861 posts
@MrsBrewer: Hmm, that's interesting. I would be shocked if you have a big baby on delivery. It always seems to be the opposite when they do growth ultrasounds.
coconut / 8861 posts
@LindsayInNY: I'm getting an ultrasound next week to check on positioning since he was oblique for my appointment. If he's not head down, then I get to have a version to get him in gear. Some days, I'm convinced that he's in position and other days not.
bananas / 9229 posts
@cascademom: She's been in the same position for quite some time. Since at least before my last appointment - so since 26 weeks maybe? I'm almost 32 now. They said no more ultrasounds unless they're concerned about position or I'm late.
coconut / 8854 posts
@LindsayInNY: I wasn't supposed to have another ultrasound, but since my belly is measuring almost 3 weeks ahead, she said I needed to.
coconut / 8861 posts
@LindsayInNY: Usually after 20 weeks, the ultrasounds stop if all looks good. LO was in perfect position. We did a quick one with him out of curiosity last time. This time around, LO #2's positioning is more tricky, so I'll get a quick one to see where he's hanging out and if he's breech. I'm just hoping for a repeat vaginal delivery. The doctor thinks I'm a good candidate for it even with a version.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@LindsayInNY: yeah, they won't estimate my baby's size either or do another anymore ultrasounds unless something comes up.
@MrsBrewer: The more I think about it, I won't do an early induction. I will have them do a membrane sweep after 39w and try some of the natural induction techniques. My parents will be in town from Oregon 5/23 - 6/7, so I'm just hoping baby comes within that time frame, though I wouldn't mind earlier if it happened on it's own.
@cascademom: I didn't find the check to be very uncomfortable. Usually they are optional, but he said he wanted to be absolutely sure baby's head was down and that an internal exam was the best way to do that. I hope you can skip it if you want to!
My stomach has been iffy lately... I threw up like 6x this morning and feel super crappy now. Not sure if it is a return of morning sickness or what
coconut / 8861 posts
@78h2o: Hugs on feeling crappy again. I'm battling a UTI and a sinus infection. I took yesterday off to sleep most of the morning and then nap in the afternoon. After going to bed early, I feel normal-ish. I still have a ton of sinus congestion. This pregnancy, I've gotten more head colds than with LO.

@MrsBrewer: @cascademom: @78h2o: I'm still on monthly appointments too!
coconut / 8854 posts
@LindsayInNY: I think you are a few weeks behind us though! This was my first biweekly appt!
bananas / 9229 posts
@MrsBrewer: 32 weeks as of Friday. SIL is the same and at biweekly appointments. I was told they'll keep me at monthly if all is well and there's no reason to move it.
coconut / 8854 posts
@LindsayInNY: Oh wow that's really interesting!! I thought all places went to biweekly then weekly appts. I mean I get it if everything is going well though! At least you don't have to make as many trips to the hospital now!
coconut / 8861 posts
@LindsayInNY: @MrsBrewer: Next week is my first weekly appointment at 36 weeks.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@cascademom: I hope you feel better soon.
I was supposed to start coming weekly beginning at 36 weeks, but they told me since everything looked great I could skip my Monday appointment. So I don't go back now until the 12th. Then I go on the 19th and 26th. They said they will send me for an ultrasound if I go past the 26th. Crazy to think I only have ~3 appointments left!
coconut / 8861 posts
@78h2o: I know. I have 4 appointments left and about a month gestation too. I'm tired of pregnancy, but at the same time can't believe that he's going to be here soon. I really need to figure out his name too. I'm much laid back this time than last time.
grapefruit / 4355 posts
@cascademom: My OB does ultrasounds at every appointment the entire way through. So I've had plenty since 20 weeks. No size estimates though besides measuring my fundal height.
@MrsBrewer: and @LindsayInNY: I was on monthly until 28 weeks and then went to every 3 weeks (so appointments at 31 and then 34 next week). We'll see what if any shifts happen in scheduling at my 34 week appointment next week.
@cascademom: I've definitely been fighting a head cold the last few days. I figured it was something I picked up on my flight home for my family shower last weekend (due to the weaken immune system).
coconut / 8861 posts
@Mrs.KMM: I'm thinking mine are from switching daycares. I've been having them since January, so not surprising and weather change. LO had a runny nose last week. He loves to give mouth kisses, so it's no surprise that I picked up something. It's just harder on me with pregnancy and a weakened immune system.

Okay – maybe slightly TMI question, but has anybody else develops hemorrhoids yet? I'm pretty sure that I have developed them over the last week and I'll be honest, it's not the most fun.
coconut / 8854 posts
@Mrs.KMM: Oh No!! I think I have been lucky so far with no hemorrhoids yet. I'm so sorry you have one! Boo...
Is anyone else feeling like insanely uncomfortable? I can't get comfortable in anything that I do. The baby is sitting SO low, and pretty much I can feel the head on my pubic bone 24/7. It hurts to sit, and especially probably TMI, but when I'm trying to wipe after a BM.
nectarine / 2148 posts
@Mrs.KMM: I've been fortunate enough not to develop those. Have you talked to your doctor or see if there is anything you can take?
@MrsBrewer: I'm pretty uncomfortable too since the baby is sitting really low. It doesn't hurt me quite the same way, but I've developed some crazy back and hip pain from him moving south.
coconut / 8861 posts
@Mrs.KMM: I got them in the first trimester of this pregnancy and in the last trimester of my pregnancy with LO. Use Tucks and Prep H for them. When I was postpartum with LO, I got them pretty bad and had to use suppositories. When I buy my postpartum supplies, I plan on getting more Tucks and other hemorrhoid remedies. I didn't take the time to do sitz baths postpartum, but that's also recommended. I'm well versed on the topic.

I'm sorry everyone is feeling over it, but glad others feel the way I do
grapefruit / 4355 posts
@MamaB: and @cascademom: I'm pretty sure that mine are just internal at this point. I've been using the Preparation H wipes and they do seem to help a little bit. And if nothing else, they just make things feel a little cleaner and fresher down there.
@Eko: I figured I would say something on Tuesday at my next appointment. But it didn't really seem worthy of an extra phone call to question anything about it.

So what is everyone having stocked in their house for postpartum?? The only thing I've bought so far are the extra long pads.

Is it too early for baby to have dropped at 33 weeks? I can suddenly breathe, but have a lot of pressure. My first was induced at 41 weeks so I've never gone into natural labor before
nectarine / 2148 posts
@MrsBrewer: oooo. I'm interested to see what everyone comes up with! So far I'm only stocked up on pads and I've stocked up on household items for when I go on leave. I've been buying things as they go on sale. I also created a stockpile of diapers. Just trying to eliminate some of the to-do items for when the baby gets here. I need to work more on personal post-partum items though.
@glitterboots: My baby has dropped a little bit at 33w too. Seems a little early to me, but who knows. I was going to chat with my dr. at my next appt.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@MrsBrewer: for me, just extra toilet paper, tons of pads (I have some left over from last time - I recommend springing for the highest quality ones you can get. The super thin, highly absorbent ones were my friend, since I hate pads and had to wear them for weeks), and extra peri bottle for the upstairs bathroom, Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Spray (not necessary, but I liked it). I might try to get some of those disposable pads for my bed, as I brought some home for the hospital and they saved my bed once or twice. I was given Tucks, Dermoplast spray (Godsend!!!), and instant cold pads by the hospital - I'd recommend them all if you're not given them.
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@LindsayInNY: No more ultrasounds after 20 weeks, unless something is wrong. When I felt no movement, and had contraction like pains that were not Braxton hicks at 30 weeks, they immediately ordered a sonogram. I had monthly apts until 32 weeks, and start weekly apts next week at 36 weeks!
@glitterboots: Baby girl dropped at 30 weeks over here! Now, everyone asks if I'm having a boy. Also, everyone and their momma says I'm not going to make it to June! 36 days until June 5.
@MrsBrewer: Hmmm I hadn't thought about what *I* need. I need to look at some of the lists I've seen floating around online. I planned to pack the hospital bags this weekend just in case. They told me at my 32 week appointment that if she came anytime after 32 weeks, they wouldn't stop the labor. Also, they said my window is May 16-June 15 for her to come!
Can I add it would be great if she came Memorial Day weekend? I would get a free day of leave since it's a holiday!
Anyone trying early eviction?!?
nectarine / 2148 posts
@dc yoga bee: I'm hoping for an early eviction! I'm still sulking over here at 33w though, so not too soon! lol. I would not mind though if the little guy came a week or two early. I keep thinking maybe he'll come early, but that is more than likely just wishful thinking.
nectarine / 2641 posts
@dc yoga bee: Perfectly content with this guy staying in until his due date. I wanted #1 to arrive quickly, but I have way too much to do (totally unrelated to baby) before this guy comes, and DH just started a new job and things are totally nutty right now. So even though I'm fairly uncomfortable, I'm good if he takes his sweet time (33 weeks tomorrow).
cherry / 234 posts
@dc yoga bee: Not holding my breath for an early arrival. I feel like that how's people get SUPER miserable and desperate for an elective induction. She will make her arrival when she's ready, and I'm counting on that to be after my due date.

Hey everyone!
Haven't been on in a whiiiile, lots to catch up on. Happy to see everyone is doing well! Can't believe how close we're all getting
I'm 36 + 1 day today and I'm feeling huger than ever! I think my baby girl dropped around 32 weeks and since then I've been having some intense pelvic pressure. I'm totally waddling at this point. Everyone keeps telling me they think I'm going I have this baby girl earlier than 5/27. We shall seeee....
@78h20 thanks for the list of hospital bag essentials I was trying to figure out what I need to pack.
