@cascademom: I am going to stop working on May 21st, but I keep getting a warning message from our time accounting system saying that I am about to go over the amount of vacation I'm allowed to accrue. I've been saving it all for maternity leave, but I'm thinking I might need to take a vacation day before then to avoid losing hours. I think I might take off the 11th, since I hate Mondays. If I go past May 27th, I will work from home the 27th and 28th, but I'll definitely be done after that.

My daughter spent her first night in her "big girl" bed last night. She went to bed later than usual and woke up super early crying, but otherwise did well. Fortunately my husband went in to help her in the morning... poor thing had just woken up confused about where she was. I wasn't able to go fall back asleep, so I'm struggling a bit with being tired today, but at least I got to hang out in bed and rest a little longer.

Baby has hiccups right now... she's been getting them so often lately. She's also been super active lately, which is uncomfortable but super reassuring.

@Eko: Yeah. I just talked to my boss and have started alerting clients. So relieved right now. I have this week and next week. I practically started crying when I texted my husband about it.

@MrsBrewer: I'm done after next week with some training on one of our databases today and Thursday. Then, whatever work I have during next week. It gives me about two weeks before my due date. If baby's late, I still have enough PTO to get through until the birth past June 1.

Lightening crotch will stop you in your path. You'll know it.

@78h2o: Yeah, I have a ridiculous amount of PTO to burn through with our new maternity leave policy. Normally, I would work through the pain until my due date, but with the new policy, my PTO will go wasted. Even taking a day or two here and there lately hasn't burned it off enough. After talking with my husband and my parents, I decided to take two weeks off to burn through the hours and get some relief. In 9 years here, I've never taken a week off or two weeks. Kind of crazy, but freeing. My boss and I are workaholics on some level. We relax, but not much.

Might be a TMI question, but I've noticed more than usual discharge over the past few days. I tried googling this, but didn't find many helpful answers. It's clear, non-smelling, and doesn't have any itch or burn or anything like that. So I know it's not an infection, but not sure if it is normal. I have a Dr. apt. in the morning and I'll bring it up then, but wanted input.

@cascademom: I never got the lightening crotch with Julia! I hope I don't get it this time either - sounds uncomfortable!

  7. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@Eko: I think that sounds really normal. Discharge definitely ramps up in the final weeks.

@Eko: mine came out like a glob of snot. I googled it- don't!! It could be discharge or mucus plug. I e-mailed my midwife, and she said I don't need to come in before my regularly scheduled apt since no burning or odor.

@78h2o: @dc yoga bee: Thanks! It's definitely not mucus plug or anything. It's almost the consistency of sweat, as if the whole thing isn't gross enough. lol. But, I guess if there's no itchiness or discomfort I probably shouldn't worry about it

@78h2o: I got it a bit with LO, but not like this. I have to clutch the wall or a table sometimes when it hits. It might have to do with his positioning which I'll find out more about tomorrow morning.

@Eko: I've said from the get-go that my mom can be in the delivery room when LO is born. So it will be her and DH. It's totally a personal call though.

    34 weeks today!

Overall, I'm still feeling really good. I played (and won!) a tennis match on Friday evening and for the most part I'm still feeling like I can be pretty active. I am definitely getting over working at this point though especially since I know I won't be coming back. There's a part of me that is ready to just be done with work.

@Mrs.KMM: Wow that is really impressive! I only manage a couple trips to the gym a week. My body gave up on me.

@cascademom: what maternity belt did you get? I think I may now need one and not sure which to get.

So I'm still battling a head cold that I've had for over a week now. I finally gave in and called my OB's office to see what I can take to get myself some relief. Picked up some Sudafed and Robitussin DM over my lunch break so hoping to start feeling better soon.

@Eko: I ordered one of the top selling ones on Amazon in Universal size. I think it's Curad brand. It was like $15 and well reviewed.

@Mrs.KMM: Hugs. I've been dealing that too. Claritin and Mucinex has been helpful for it. I've had so many head colds this pregnancy. So annoying.

The baby shower this weekend was great. My mom was horrible. I dropped her and MIL off at the airport this morning. Tonight may call for a glass of wine and a nice long cry.

@MamaB: Hugs! What was so terrible? Sorry to hear that they were hard to deal with.

  21. MamaB

@Mrs.KMM: Well, from all the jabs about how she's skinnier than me (obviously, I'm 34 weeks pregnant),how she told all my friends at the shower that I think I know everything and have a rude awakening coming, how awful my feet look (I have minimal swelling), how I'm a terrible daughter because I old her she can't come in the room during labor and delivery, how maybe she just won't come when the baby's born, how my husband is horrible because he called her out for being such a bitch to me, and how she hopes that I get a huge dose of reality by not getting the birth I want. She was just a ray of sunshine.

  22. cascademom

@MamaB: So many hugs for you. She sounds really awful. I would keep her at an arm's length especially when the baby is born. If she's behaving this way now, I would be very careful about how much exposure she gets to you and your LO during your maternity leave. From experience, don't let anyone push you around emotionally while your hormones are readjusting, you're sleep deprived, and taking care of a newborn. It's a recipe for disaster. I'm still not fully recovered from how awful my MIL was during that time.

I had my 34 week OB appointment this morning. Up 23 pounds overall at this point but the doctor said my fundal height is measuring a little small. Not so much that he's concerned at this point though, but something to keep an eye on. I go back in two weeks at 36 weeks which he said is a pretty big appointment. Then I switch to weekly until baby girl arrives.

He also gave me a prescription for an antibiotic because he suspects my head cold may have developed into a mild case of bronchitis. So hopefully the antibiotic gets me feeling better soon!

Oh - I snapped a quick profile shot with my phone during my tummy check! Here's baby girl at 34 weeks!

@Mrs.KMM: awwww!!! Cute ultrasound picture!!! I have an ultrasound next week at my 36 week appt! Isn't it exciting that the weekly appts are going to be starting??? It's really starting to set in that it's getting close now! So great about your weight gain!

I just came from my 36 week appointment. I might have a yeast infection which seems to happen with weather and coming off antibiotics. He didn't mind that I started doing Monistat for it. I'm waiting on a cream to reduce some inflammation as well. He thinks that the baby's going to be an 8 pounder. I didn't have to get an internal check especially since there's irritation right now even though I stocked up on pads and no freeze ice packs beforehand. Good appointment overall.

ETA: He was also cool with the maternity belt to relieve some of the pressure with LO sitting so low possibly to help the walking issue.

Just came back from my 32 1/2 week appointment - this seems to be the week of appointments for a lot of us! No further suggestions for the carpal tunnel issues which is frustrating but whatever at this point. Doctor thought baby was breech at first but then said she couldn't tell where the head was because I keep having BH contractions. Didn't know that! Eventually figured out that she's oblique for right now. Doesn't bother my hip but still has time to move that head into my pelvis! I'm moving up to another appointment in 3 weeks now - big changes, LOL!

Yay for good appointments all around!

So for my next appointment, I have to bring my birth plan all typed up and ready to review with the OB. What types of things are you guys planning to include in your birth plans?

@Mrs.KMM: Oh wow! I don't think my OB's office goes that in depth with birth plans?!

My two cents... My hospital has a really good birth plan that they provide patients. It's rather simplified which I like. Our Bradley class teacher (a doula) actually recommended it to the rest of the class even! Here it is, if you're interested in using it or basing yours off of it:

Definitely lots of appointments today. I also had one! lol. Nothing exciting except my blood pressure, which was slightly elevated last week, came back down this week. Baby's already head down and starting to settle in, which is causing major pressure and pain in my hips and groin. I just started the every 2 week cycle now. Next appointment I'm getting tested for the Step B or whatever it's called.

@Mrs.KMM: Cute ultrasound pic!! So jealous of your u/s. I won't get another one unless baby makes some funky moves. Also that does sound like a very detailed labor plan. I am not sure if my practice even does one! lol. My approach is pretty simple. Non-medicated with keeping an open mind.

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@Mrs.KMM: I'm surprised your OB had you write a birth plan. My practice doesn't do that at all! I didn't write one myself, either. I can see how it might be helpful, but in my experience, I didn't feel like the fact that I didn't have one changed anything.

@LindsayInNY: Thanks! That will be a great starting point for putting mine together!

@Eko: and @78h2o: My OB wants patients to put together their plan and then he goes over it with you at the 36 week appointment. I think his review is largely to make sure that any desires align with hospital policy and procedures and to make sure the expectations are reasonable.
