June 2015 Mamas!

@dc yoga bee: I'm actually planning on baby girl coming late. That seems to be the trend in my family, plus I figure if that's what I'm expecting then she can only meet or beat expectations! And at 33.5 weeks, I'm really not feeling too uncomfortable yet.

I actually extremely don't want her to come over Memorial Day weekend. One of my best friends had her little boy over Memorial Day weekend last year and she said that the skeletal staff at the hospital over the holidays was definitely not ideal.

@Mrs.KMM: All my aunts, and my mom had their first baby two weeks early! I'm 35 weeks tomorrow, and they told me at my shower to pack my bags because there is no way she's staying in until June! We will See. DH was born on Labor Day

My midwife recommended hypnobirthing and I wasn't really on board. My chiropractor just recommended it to me this morning, and gave me the book. Okay, I'll give it a read!

@dc yoga bee: Let us know how it goes!! My cousins were born on memorial day weekend and usually it's a challenge for her to plan birthdays every year.

Can I just add that we may start seeing some babies born THIS MONTH! craziness! Even more crazy is to say that my baby will be here next month. gah.

We have our local baby shower this weekend which I'm really excited about. My mom and DH's mom fly in tonight, and I'm kind of dreading having them here all weekend.

@Eko: Yep, I thought about that this morning when I woke up. Some of us will have babies this month! DH was born on labor day, and it is a pain in the butt. I was born Father's Day weekend.

@MamaB: My MIL and SIL stayed here last weekend for mine. Monday couldn't come quick enough lol.

@MamaB: I had both families in town last weekend so I hear ya! We're heading to MI tonight for SIL's baby shower now. I'm all familied out for now. And in need of some serious sleep!

@MamaB: @dc yoga bee: I had to take Monday off to recover from having family in town last weekend!

We visited our first daycare yesterday and I DID NOT get a good feeling at all. I almost cut the girl off mid-tour to just get out of there. I'm sure it was technically and legally fine but it just did not sit well with me! I hope they don't all go that bad!

OH and yes some of us could have babies THIS month but it's also so crazy to say that I'm due next month (even if it is at the end of the month) !

@rpparker: I looked at three daycares before deciding where to have LO. We went with a home daycare that we miss so much. They were awesome to us and are practically family to us. When we switched him to a preschool environment, we went with one where a few of his former daycare friends is at. It made the decision easier.

@LindsayInNY: I literally told my MIL that I felt like I was in an orphanage - a little over dramatic I know. It was just really loud because the infant room is on the same hallway as all the other kids (up to pre-k), all the cribs were just in one big row against the wall, and all the babies were just sitting/laying on the floor looking up at us.

@cascademom: I have asked around about some home daycares but I am going to start looking at that more seriously this week.

I told my DH that her day there would just be so dramatically different than a home environment.

@rpparker: The home daycare where LO was a nice contrast of home feeling and daycare. Changing him to a preschool environment felt different since he's literally in a classroom for the day compared to a home with a couch and toys all around. The schedules are similar, but the environment is different. He's happy at the school right now and adjusted well. We just didn't like the school feeling for an infant. It felt too impersonal to us.

  16. rpparker

    apricot / 363 posts

@cascademom: Impersonal is the exact word I used yesterday. I can see where a classroom environment works when they are older but for an infant it didn't feel right.

@rpparker: Yeah, that's exactly how we felt when looking at a center compared to a home daycare for an infant. The trick is finding a good home daycare with solid credentials that you feel comfortable with.

@rpparker: I felt the same way when we toured day cares. One felt like a prison, another while compliant on state ratios, felt way too crowded with unsupervised infants sleeping on their tummy in a corner. I just felt really sad. We are going the nanny route. We are extra fortunate because my parents live close, and my mom offered to watch her. We are going to pay her the going rate for nannies so as to not take advantage, and they didn't mess my brother and I up too badly so we feel good lol.

@rpparker: keep looking! I visited home daycares and centers...and I had great feelings about some home daycares and terrible feelings about others...same with centers. They really vary! Just keep looking and trust your gut! We found a center we really love for both girls.

My birthday is May 26th... It sometimes falls on Memorial Day. It does sometimes make planning parties a little more challenging, but I have also always liked my birthday falling over a long weekend. Seemed to make it more of a celebration and it's nice to get the day off from work and school now and then!

My mom said to me today, "I'm going to stand next to you all day, so I look skinny." Maybe that should be on the list of things NOT to say to your pregnant daughter.

@MamaB: that's a real nice thing for her to say. Grr people can be annoying with their comments.

My mom asked if she could be in the delivery room last night. I told her she could be in the hospital and room while I'm laboring, but when I'm actually pushing and the baby is being born I would like it to be just DH and I. My mom started crying. What do I do with that???

Have you decided who is going to be in the room?

@Eko: aww, that sucks she reacted like that! I ended up with both my parents in the delivery room last time and I am fine with that happening again. I'd also be fine with my sister, but she lives far away and probably won't be there unless baby comes really late. I didn't really want my in-laws in the room, and fortunately they didn't ask to be there. If my husband really wanted his mom for some reason, I'd probably allow it. Not sure on that though.

@Eko: gorgeous!!!! As for the delivery room, ugh idk but I would stand you ground if that's what you want. You don't need to make your mom happy. This is such a special moment for you and your husband. I made it very clear from the beginning to my family that it was only going to be DH and myself. No one else. Also I told everyone they will probably wait a few hours to come so that we can have some bonding time

  31. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@Eko: Awe, she will be okay. I've re everyone I can't commit to anything, and am playing it by ear. I've never given birth, so I'm not sure what I will want when it all goes down!!

Also, I'm pretty sure I've started losing bits of my mucus plug

@78h2o: @MrsBrewer: Thanks! I know that I won't really change my mind about it and just need to accept that this is something that was going to upset her.

@dc yoga bee: There are a lot of other aspects about the delivery I am also being open minded about. I am not sure how I feel about visitors yet. Also, that's really exciting movement!!

I can't wait to start seeing some babies in the coming weeks.

@MamaB: Oh wow! That's something my grandmother would say! When I told her I was doing maternity pics she asked which "bump" I was trying to capture - meaning my baby bump or my ass!

@Eko: My mom wants to be in the room and I'm ok with it because she is a retired nurse so I feel like her medical knowledge will be comforting.

@dc yoga bee: Crazy! Babies will be coming soon!

Anyone having lightening crotch right now? I could barely walk this weekend. I'm hoping that it means the little one's head is engaging into place instead of being oblique or breech. I have a maternity belt arriving tonight to be able to walk without pelvic pain for work, etc.

I've decided to stop working after next week. I couldn't handle this weekend, have a ton of PTO to burn and will lose if I don't use. I'm okay with this decision. Just have to train and get everyone up to speed on my duties and alert my clients.

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@cascademom: omg yes. It starts off for me as crazy hip pain then transfers to lightening crotch pain by the afternoon. It's awesome. not.

I'm working through the end of the month and will have two weeks off before DD. All I'm doing now is closing out cases and doing trainings. I was going to possibly work a little longer, but I know there is still a lot I have to do that won't likely get done until after I stop working.

@Eko: I got Monistat thinking the crotch action was because of being on antibiotics and drying me out. My OB recommended it last time. I thought it was that. I see my doctor tomorrow. I'm going to tell him everything about it in hopes of feeling better about walking. I'm okay with it, actually excited to relax. Just done with trying to get into work and being stopped by lightening crotch at every move.

@cascademom: Hopefully they can provide you some kind of relief, even if mental relief. I'm looking forward to having some personal time before LO arrives. I just hope that I don't get bored out of my mind where the weeks drag out.

@cascademom: Sweeeet! So, I work for the federal govt, and will have 5 days off at Memorial Day. I would love to stop working then. But, what if baby doesn't come until June 15!!! What will I do? I have 8 weeks maternity leave, and an extra 5 days left when I return to work that I'm saving for Xmas and Thanksgiving.

    coconut / 8854 posts

@cascademom: I don't think I've felt that yet....I am just getting a really heavy feeling low kind of in my crotch, not lightning though! So awesome that you are done working now after this week! I am planning on working right up until the end. I don't have much PTO or anything to use, so I want to just save it up as much as possible!
