@tlcbaby: @grizz: I have these moments too! I've had period like cramping for a few minutes every other night or so. Nothing to write home about, but when they happen I start thinking "This could be it!" And start thinking about my worst period cramps ever times 1000. Not very zen OR helpful hahah.

@grizz: I've been having leg cramps almost every night! These pregnancy cramps seem worse than regular leg cramps though.
Good luck at your appointment on Tuesday! I'm sure everything will be fine.

@grizz: @knittylady: @tlcbaby: I'm definitely going to be hyper-interpreting every little twinge from here on out. Perhaps this is why the last 2-4 weeks are the worst?
I'm trying to prepare myself, but it has been difficult. After a long day at work (got home at 11pm, I was destroyed), all I could think is that if I went into labor right then, I would have zero mental reserve to handle it. If only we could all go into labor after a full night's sleep, lol!

Glad I'm not the only one suffering labor paranoia! So many emotions about finally getting to this point.
@Espion: I have this thought every night when I'm exhausted - just hoping against hope that I'll be somewhat rested when the big day arrives.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@Espion: @Revel: I hope I'm rested when I go into labor but I doubt it as I'm barely sleeping at night!

@grizz: how do they know if you have low fluid?
Does anyone get another ultrasound? I haven't had one since gender scan at 20 weeks. I would love too but hear its not typical to get one unless there's concern or complications.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@jh524: I'm having a growth ultrasound on Monday due to the GD diagnosis. Then I'll be having biophysical profiles (BPPs) which, I think, are a mix of a non-stress test and an ultrasound.
apricot / 340 posts
@JH524 - I had ultrasounds done:
5, 7, 12 - all due to bleeding
weeks 13, 18 with perinatal specialist - for anatomy scan
week 28 w/perinatal for another anatomy/growth scan
week 32 w/perinatal because they found that we had an marginal umbilical cord insertion at 28 weeks so they needed to monitor the baby's growth
and i have one schedule at 36 weeks to monitor the growth again - thinking that'll be the last ultrasound.
i think i have had an abnormal amount of ultrasounds though.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@jh524: I only had the early one to confirm the pregnancy and my 20 week anatomy scan. That is all they'll do unless they have some reason to do another one. I guess I'll have to wait and meet him or her in person!!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@yourekindapretty: eh, I had a ton too. We can be special together!
I had four ultrasounds before I graduated from the RE because I was originally pregnant with twins.
Two at the regular OBGYN before 11 weeks - one at my first appointment and the other to confirm the vanishing twin.
12 week NT scan
18 weeks for a fetal echocardiogram but it was too early so they did an early anatomy scan at specialists' office
20 week anatomy scan
22 week fetal echocardiogram
I had a quick ultrasound a few weeks ago because the NP had a tough time finding the heartbeat
I will have one this Monday plus possible others.
All in all, I've had/definitely will have at least 12 ultrasounds.

I so wish I could have another!! I haven't seen him in so long and hope everything is normal with him.....preggo worries I guess.
apricot / 340 posts
@SWEDISHFISH - i hope everything is going ok with you and the baby! i would have never thought anything about the # of ultrasounds we've had until i read other ppl saying they only get 2-3...
@JH524 - i rented a doppler from babybeat, for three months, so i can listen to the heart beat, to put me at ease every day. it was about $60 for the three months and i really got some use of out it.

@jh524: They saw it on the ultrasound I had to get Wednesday. I got another one because baby was breech at 34 weeks so they wanted to be sure he flipped head down. He's head down but my fluid is now borderline
pear / 1632 posts
So do they determine your risk factor based on the routine procedures they do at each prenatal vist..... The blood pressure, urine test, Doppler, etc... And then progress to an additional ultrasound? I'm not getting ultrasounds so how would they know if I had or baby had something that needed to be watched?
@yourekindapretty: yeah, I've only had two, 8 weeks and 20 week anatomy scan.
pear / 1632 posts
@grizz: did you just know by the baby movement and kicks that it was breech? Happy to hear baby moved head down though!!!
papaya / 10473 posts
@jh524: Ohhhh yes! He was in a position called footling breech, which means he was able to kick and stomp on my cervix, and his head was wedged under my ribs. You could distinctly feel his head at the bottom of my ribs. It hurt to breathe! It hurt so bad when he turned I thought I was in labor. Good news is, he's far too big now to turn himself over again. Feeling hiccups down by my left hipbone as we speak!
pear / 1563 posts
@grizz: So glad baby turned for good for you! I feel hiccups so low these days, it's funny.
@jh524: I'd wondered about some of this because I see a midwife practice that doesn't do a lot of monitoring - the last U/S I had was 20 weeks, they've determined baby's position and estimated size by feeling the outside only. I haven't asked but they always ask about movement, so my gut is that if movement patterns change that would be their signal that something might be going on that needed more monitoring.
papaya / 10473 posts
@Revel: @jh524: I work for an OB practice and I'm always amazed at how spot-on their predictions are by only
feeling and manipulating the outside! We had an induction on Wednesday where they predicted the baby to be 6 lbs flat - she was born at 6 lbs, 1 ounce!

@swedishfish: A bit.. I know that's something to watch for as a sign of labor, as is every other regular pregnancy symptom it seems. I've also been having light period like cramping and occasional back pain at night.
It's freaking me out seeing so many HBers having their LO's at or before 37 weeks! That could be some of us!! Anyone else thinking one of us might end up having May babies??
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@knittylady: yes I've thought about that, especially because so many ladies are due right at the beginning of June!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@knittylady: My Dad and my husband are convinced I won't make it until June. We shall see...
papaya / 10473 posts
@swedishfish: ummm... Yes. It's freaking me out.
@knittylady: I read a 37 week birth announcement on here today and promptly got to work on the nursery and packed baby's hospital bag... Especially since I've read that my fluid level could be a sign of impending labor.
What I have discovered through this whole process:
Every symptom you google during the TWW: pregnant
Every symptom you google during the first tri: miscarriage
Every symptom you google during the third tri: labor
pear / 1563 posts
@swedishfish: yup, me too... My midwife said it is dropping progesterone at this stage and doesn't immediately signal labor. Still makes me super nervous!
As do all the 37 wk babies! I'm 37+1 and I'd like to make it another week at least, ideally 2 or 3. @knittylady: read my mind.
@grizz: Haha, totally agree re symptom spotting
nectarine / 2750 posts
@grizz: SO true! I remember taking the little online quizzes to find out if I was pregnant.
papaya / 10473 posts
Anyone else's hands hurt? I'm wide awake right now because my hands feel almost arthritic or something! They are so stiff and sore.
I am also about 90% sure that baby has dropped. All of a sudden I have every sign of it: sudden new swelling of hands and feet, a much lower belly, I can breathe and eat again due to newfound room, my bra strap is loose now bc its not touching my belly, (TMI) constipation and frequent yet unproductive urination, and really heavy pelvic pressure. I had bad pelvic girdle pain for about 10 weeks and it's back. My mobility lessened by probably half overnight. I also am feeling his kicks in new lower places and the hiccups are lower still. It's SO uncomfortable but I'm pretty excited!
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: yep - loose bowel movements for the last 3 weeks. Actually if we're being honest, full on diarrhea. It's awful.
@knittylady: honestly the more time presses, the sadder I get. Given my family history I really thought I'd have an early baby (37 weeks). Now granted, I'm only 37 weeks now, but baby shows no signs of coming out. I'm miserably sick and just want to be done!!
@grizz: My hands bothered me like you describe, about a month ago. Now they're just swollen but don't hurt. (Though they itch, along with the rest of my body...waiting on a cholestasis test that was done last week.) My entire left arm hurts and tingles at the shoulder blade. The arm is strained and I believe the tingling could be carpel tunnel. It's very painful; I can't use it much and I ice it at night. I think my baby drops and then goes back up (it can happen I guess!) Sometimes she seems lower and I have those symptoms, other times she's back up high.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@swedishfish: Yup, but I was thinking that it was due to the prophylactic colace I've started taking. (I hear so many horror stories about pooping after everything is said and done, that I figured there is no way I'm going to start off behind the eight ball! Overkill, probably, but maybe better than being even slightly constipated?)
@knittylady: Since I'm due June 8th, it's a slight possibility, but I have to steel myself to not get my hopes up! Like @grizz: mentioned, every little twinge is a maybe baby.
@grizz: That's awesome! I would seriously love to be able to take a deep breath!
@LazyLightning: I hope you are our number 1 winner for all the misery you've been through. I would be jealous, to be sure :), but that baby needs to get with the program and join you stateside!
nectarine / 2750 posts
@grizz: I've been having some pregnancy carpal tunnel, but its more than just pain. They do hurt, but my hands also fall completely asleep. Its really freaky. My fingers on my right hand stay numb 24/7. Can't wait for that one to go away.
My midwife had it and she had to stop delivering babies during her last month of pregnancy because she couldn't feel anything. I felt bad when she said that.
@Espion: I agree - if anyone is gonna go early I think @LazyLightning deserves it. Honey, you've been through a lot. No matter what, though, we are in the home stretch!
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@grizz: Yes! My hands and specifically my knuckles! I have to massage them and stretch them out every hour it seems. Worse at night...
And here's another vote for LazyLightning!
pear / 1563 posts
@Espion: Ditto, let's hope @LazyLightning: can go first - you've earned it at this point!
@grizz: baby feels a little lower to me too today, but like LazyLightning, she seems to move higher and lower day to day for me right now - nothing concrete.
My hands haven't been bothering me but my left leg falls asleep every time I lay on that side, while I get rib pain when I lay on my right - constant switching at night. sigh.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@Revel: I'm so tired of the switching sides at night! I can't wait till I can sleep on my back again!
pear / 1563 posts
@knittylady: Totally over it! It's such a production. I know I won't likely be getting long stretches of sleep for a while, but being able to turn over in bed easily will be nice.

So baby is definitely head down again. I know because I was just at the hospital and they did an ultrasound. I thought I might be leaking amniotic fluid but they said it didn't look like it. I had used the bathroom and changed my panty liner. Less than two minutes after leaving the bathroom the liner was soaked through with clear fluid that didn't smell like urine. But I guess it wasn't so that is good! My amniotic fluid level is about 12.5 so that's good.
I am 35 weeks tomorrow and the doctor said I'm 1 cm dilated, 20% effaced and baby is at a -2 station. So that's all good. Now I just feel ridiculous
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@swedishfish: Glad to hear all is well! and you just reminded me that I want to ask about station as well.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@knittylady: thanks! And I'm tired of switching sides at night too...though I pretty much don't sleep anyway at this point!
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@knittylady: Hear, hear! I flop like a trout out of water from about 3 am on.
pear / 1664 posts
@swedishfish: FWIW, my doc told me today that a lot of women at our point in pregnancy have a lot of 'watery discharge' - but he also said it's always good to come in if you suspect it's amniotic fluid.
I am also 1 cm dilated as of today. I don't know about effacement or the station though, just that the cervix is 'lower' than last week. I will be getting a growth ultrasound next week, turns out, because baby feels big. So excited about this - I didn't think I'd get another. That's tuesday.
I had a test for cholestasis last week but the results aren't back yet. I've been very itchy so I'm not sure what to think - if I have it, they'll probably induce me next week or early the week after.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@LazyLightning: well that's good to know. I feel like unless I ask a specific question my doctors haven't really told me what to look out for/what's normal. I do my own research instead. I hope you're feeling better! This is silly that it's taking so long for your test results.
