So are real contractions more like the BH contractions with the tightening?

  2. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@swedishfish: I have a feeling that with real contractions I'll definitely know. Kind of like pornography: I can't define it, but I know it when I see it, lol!
The BHs I was completely unsure about, but now I notice that my belly gets distinctly tighter all over and then relaxes. And the tightening/relaxation I only notice by pressing on my belly. It's not something I feel outwardly.

@Espion: hahaha I like your example of knowing it when you see it! I just spoke to a friend who recently gave birth and she compared her contractions to a mix of BH and menstrual-like cramping. Hers began in her back and radiated to the front. Ah, it's crazy that we are so close that we are even thinking about this!

  4. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@swedishfish: That is what I keep hearing - that they start from your back and move to the front. I haven't felt anything like that, but I am having more cramping, especially at night.

Tomorrow is my last day of work and I. COULD. NOT. BE. HAPPIER! I can barely keep my eyes open and it takes me about five minutes to stand up out of my chair when I need to get up.

@tlcbaby: yay for reaching your last day of work!!! I wish I had a set date to work to...but I'm just going to keep on keeping on until this baby decides to make his/her debut.

@tlcbaby: Yay for last day of work!

No cramping or anything, but (omg) what is up with all this pressure? Hopefully it means this kid is settling down into position, but geez, it is unrelenting.

Is anyone else having trouble deciding on a name? It's really Starting to bother me that we haven't picked it yet....

And for the cramping... Mine are getting more frequent! ill ask my dr about them again on Thursday. I haven't tried timing them or anything but wondering if we'll just "know" that these are the real deal.

@Espion: the pressure is killing me!

Had my 38 week appointment today with a nurse practitioner at my OB practice since my OB is out of town. My chart pretty clearly states that I don't get cervical checks but she insisted on one anyway, and I wasn't a happy camper. She also made a huge deal about my weight and even made me go weigh on a different scale just to make sure I had really gained that much. Today was not good for my self esteem lol

@jh524: Oh yes, we're in the undecided name camp. We were never going to tell anyone what we're naming Flipper until we had him anyway, but the truth is, we're still undecided.

@grizz: Bleh, why would they insist? Just tell them no . I'm glad my OB practice is small, so I've seen both of them multiple times. While I have never expressed any desire for or against an unmedicated birth, they both have expressed relief that I don't want to be induced (unless I have to) and they can take or leave cervical checks. (I haven't wanted them so far, so I haven't had one.) Perhaps it's because both of these guys are fairly young.

@grizz: I'm sorry girl!! What's the deal anyways with the cervical checks? My doc said he didn't want to do one at my last visit because it can stir up labor... Do the cervical checks hurt?

@Espion: at least you have a standby, flipper, we don't even have that. So far he's the boy with no name.

@Espion: My OB is really on board with all our plans but this NP acted like I was crazy. I'm so glad that my OB delivers about 85% of her own patients since she knows and understands what our preferences are.

We just had our last meeting and labor rehearsal with our doula before the big show Two more Bradley classes to go. Our to-do list consists of buying a curtain rod, packing some snacks, and making a quick return/exchange at Target. Insane!

  13. Boheme

    papaya / 10473 posts

@jh524: I didn't want them because I tend to get hung up on numbers, and since they aren't necessary our childbirth instructor said I'd prob feel more relaxed if I just skipped them. This was my first one and it wasn't exactly pleasant! She felt the baby's head, which I guess is kind of cool but it was uncomfortable. Have you tried the Baby Name Wizard app or the website Nymbler for baby names? That's where ours came from. It wasn't easy but it helped us at least make lists!

@jh524: we have a boy's name but we are undecided on a girl's name. Try Nameberry. It's my favorite name website!

@jh524: my cervical check didn't hurt...it was just uncomfortable.

@grizz: you should talk to your OB. The NP works for your OB and should respect your wishes! I'm sorry she was such a...you know what!

@jh524: We have a short list of boy and girl names that I packed in my bag. I have thought from the beginning that I want to see the baby before we choose a name, although not knowing the name or sex is starting to make me ANXIOUS!

@grizz: Ugh, what a sucky appt! When you said you needed a curtain rod I thought you meant for labor, but I am guessing you just need a curtain rod for your house now that I read it again, right?

Our to do list is all on my husband, all my stuff is done! He just needs to pack his bag, check the car seat in his car, and hang a hook in the bathroom for the baby's hooded towel.

I had a promising appt yesterday. Growth ultrasound meant we got to see our girl (and confirm she's a girl!!) again, so that was neat. It's funny, from the front she looks like my husband but the side profile looks like me - I guess we'll see when she comes out! She's fairly large, estimated around 8 lbs or maybe more. With this knowledge and the other concerns I've had with sickness and swelling, doc is going to do a membrane sweep on me next Tuesday and if that doesn't work, induce me possibly by the end of next week (or early the week after)! So I'm hoping for natural progress by then, but REALLY thankful to have an end date.

My 3rd cervical check and still only 1 cm dilated. That was kind of a bummer, as I've been doing tons of the things you're supposed to do (walking, exercise ball, EPO, etc). I hoped for progress (even knowing progress doesn't really mean much). Had a bit of tinged discharge (thick) after that appt though, so I hope that was a bit of the mucous plug..

Meanwhile I have been sick every night still. I'll have a good night once in a while, then several more sick ones. It's like clockwork. Sometimes I'll get to bed and think 'oh good, it was a decent night' but then wake up a few hours later and suffer then. Anyway like I said. END DATE. Now if I could just convince this little one to come out on her own...

@tlcbaby: Yes, for the nursery! haha! Even though he won't sleep in there for quite some time I feel better having it finished.

@LazyLightning: How awesome knowing that you have an end date! I have a feeling our LO is nice and comfy and will be hanging out until week 42 or so.

@grizz: Isn't it crazy how you and I were both sure our babies would be early!??

Then again, things can change within the blink of an eye... so we'll see right?

Wow, so much discussion in just the last day - we are getting close now!

@tlcbaby: Congrats on being done work!

@jh524: We are decided on a name but it was stressing me out before we picked the middle name, so I feel your pain.

@grizz: What a rotten appointment! I haven't gotten checked and don't intend to, I think to the disappointment of my mom and family, haha. A family member is due around when I am and we were all together and she was discussing how dilated/effaced she was, and when I said my practice doesn't check I got a lot of blank stares

@LazyLightning: So glad for the positive appointment, but sorry you're feeling sick. I had one of my most uncomfortable nights last night yet, but of course, this morning, I feel totally fine and like nothing is going on... I hear you on timing - I've been so petrified of going really early, and now I'm convinced I'm going to have this baby in my 41st week!

@Espion: I still fee like my baby is so high! I'm not feeling much pressure at all and I'm just 10 days from my due date. Hopefully this girl will get in position soon.

@swedishfish: I love NameBerry! We actually have both a boy's name and a girl's name for the next go round due to NameBerry, Nymbler, and randomly hearing a girl's name that we loved.

@LazyLightning: yay for an end date in sight! It's crazy that we are all going to start having babies soon.

    pomegranate / 3212 posts

@grizz: I don't want checks for the same reason. I've read so many stories on here about how they ended up not meaning anything in either direction as well.

@tlcbaby: Eee! such a small to-do list! Means we're close! And congrats on last day of work today! Yahoo!

@LazyLightning: Such great news about an end in sight. I've heard from so many people that the second the little one comes out all the nausea, heartburn and everything else just goes away. Ugh, sweet relief.

I actually got frustrated NOT to have cramps last night... I've been having them every night for the past little while. Baby is dancing around in there like he could stay there forever.

  24. Boheme

    papaya / 10473 posts

@knittylady: I didn't have any either! I had one big one when I woke up, and got kind of excited... and then I stood up and it went away. Bummer.

@LazyLightning: I know, right? I went from threatened pre-term labor to..... nothing. Absolutely nada. I guess I did a little *too* well with the care plan they gave me for the early contractions and low fluid.

  25. swedishfish

Oh goodness gracious, I now have had heartburn two days in a row. I haven't had heartburn the entire pregnancy. I hope it goes away soon!

BPP tomorrow morning! I'm excited to see how much LO has grown since last Monday.

The weird harcore lower belly/back cramp I had this morning just made its return...It lasted probably a minute. But I only had one of them! WTF are you doing, body? Stop messing with me! haha!

  27. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@LazyLightning: Sorry you still aren't feeling well, but it should definitely make you feel better to know the end is near!

@swedishfish: I hardly ever have heartburn, but I will randomly wake up in the middle of the night with it every once in a while and have to get up for a few minutes.

My midwife confirmed what I thought about the baby moving waay lower - she had to feel way down to feel the head! Everything else was normal, nothing exciting. Going back next Thursday, which is only three days away from my due date!

@HLK208: Awww thank you! I love when the 2012 mamas visit our thread. I was just creeping on the June 2012 first birthday thread thinking about how excited I'll be for LO's first birthday this time next year!

@HLK208: Thanks for stopping in, like @grizz: I love seeing where I'll be one year from now...

@Revel: @knittylady: 3 of my due date twins on WeddingBee have already had their babies, which isn't helping my patience at all. Its making me feel like I'm destined to fall on the other side of the statistical curve and go late!

@tlcbaby: lol! Yes, I think I started labor spotting as soon as 30 weeks

Hey ladies! I have been totally MIA for so long--due 6/5 though, so 38 weeks today. I am getting so excited...although I'm kind of expecting to go after my due date!

@Revel: I agree - we are probably setting some record. There are only 8 days left in this month! Any of us could really go any day at this point!

@grizz: I had such a similar experience with an NP this week! I was supposed to be meeting the other doc in my practice but she ended up in L&D right before my appt. The NP just couldn't figure out why the doctor said I didn't have to have cervical checks--she thought that meant for sure I was scheduled for a c-section (I'm not!). I'm glad at least my OB is on the same page.

And for the early June mommas, im so happy that our precious babies will soon be coming....as for me being at the end of June, Im cautiously watching this thread to see who goes first...OH the anticipation!!!!!!!

@bisous: Hi there! I am sure after an appt. like that it makes you grateful for having a doctor you actually do like! I've heard a lot of horror stories about people pretty much fighting their OB's the whole time.

@jh524: Maybe we should start taking bets!

  40. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@jh524: Heh, my family is terrified that I'll actually name this kid Flipper. Flip sounds like a cute 50's grease monkey. We prefer to keep them terrified so far.

@HLK208: Yay! Thank you! I have to admit, I stalk the old post-partum threads like crazy. It's so educational!

@jh524: @tlcbaby: @swedishfish: @grizz: DH predicts next Tuesday for me (for no other reason than to predict a day). There is a FULL MOON this weekend, and I sort of hope there is no truth to that rumor, because I would hate to have to compete for the attentions of my OB.

I think that the ladies at my work were trying to put me into labor today. It was so ridiculously busy. I didn't make it home until 8 pm and I am exhausted!
