@Mrs. Rabbit: he is 2 hours away (the literal middle of nowhere. The closest hospital is an hour away from his house and there is nothing inbetween us en route). I'm almost 29 weeks now and my next appointment is next week. We are traveling 4 hours away next weekend and I am considering a mini girls vacation the week between Xmas and new years...but both of those will be close by pretty good hospitals just in case. I'm mostly concerned about January and february. My ob is probaby going to say I'm fine until the shots stop at 36 weeks....but i dont knkw how brave I am. Haha it would definitely be good if he would come here. Maybe I can talk him into it.

@Mrs. Rabbit: Lightening, I had no idea!

@Mrs. Lion: I think talking him into visiting you would be a great solution, if he'd be up for it. Maybe it'd be nice for him to have a change of scenery after the last couple of weeks, spend time with your LO and maybe take him to do simple fun things (just like a trip to the park or something) so you can relax a bit?? I know you're worried about him but you need to be taken care of too

@Beanie132: Did you figure out the daycare situation? I'd be so frustrated! We put a deposit down (a month's tuition) for a spot in June, but the deposit was to secure our spot. It doesn't seem like they can tell you they don't have space if they took your money as a deposit!

@Iced Tea: So glad that everything looked good from your ultrasound!

@Mrs. Lion: Well my midwife couldn't even tell where my baby was, so she said maybe next time, when I go back at 33 weeks. So who knows! As far as traveling goes, I myself am not going to go anywhere during January, but I'm probably the world's lowest risk taker, so take that with a grain of salt Christmas next week will be my last trip, and that's just 2.5 hours away to my parents house, in a big city with good hospitals, and I already have a plan for what hospital to go to in case I go into pre-term labor! I'd say if your doctor okays it, and you're comfortable with it, then definitely do your fun trip with the girls. I agree that it sounds like it'd be good to have your dad visit you instead of you going there in Jan/Feb. He could get in some quality family time with all of you and maybe even help with some last minute things you need to get ready!

How is everyone's nursery coming along?

Ours is painted, though my husband still needs to paint the trim, and it has a crib, rug, rocker, and bookshelves up. We still need to buy a dresser and stain/paint it, we need a non slip rug pad, I'm making a teepee for Christmas for both kids (from Santa) that will go in there, and we need to figure out lighting and all of the fun accessories. Oh! And I have white curtains that I'm planning to dye - going to try ombre, but we'll see how that goes. And we need shades to go under the curtains. I really want bamboo shades or something similar, but the less expensive option is blackout shades from ikea.

@mrs. tictactoe: We're still sticking with the idea of moving both girls in to the same room Julia has now, so I haven't done anything to it. Although, once we figure out her name I'll add some personal touches to it. We went the Ikea route for the blackout shade (behind the curtains), but I'm totally intrigued about DIYing some ombre curtains! Make them, make them! And then blog about it, because I REALLY want to see!

@Kbee: Hopefully he will come visit! I think he will We are trying to find some fun things he can do with my husband while they are here. They are like best buddies.

@mrs. tictactoe: We finished ours this weekend, except for putting her name over the crib...which we can't do until we know her name haha I posted some pictures in the nursery thread but I think it got buried pretty quickly on the boards.

We haven't done anything to move L over from the nursery, but I *have* purchased a rug for baby girl's nursery and blinds for L's big boy room.

@Mrs. Rabbit: I will! I hope it turns out... I'm nervous. I'll be attempting that after Christmas because right now I need to get that teepee done!

All of the furniture is in the nursery, but we need to decide if we are going to paint the IKEA spice racks we got for book storage, and then do it! I also have some book pages to frame (though at least I have the frames!) and a super-talented teacher friend is going to paint some canvases for me over Christmas break. So, major pieces are in, but decorations and details are still to come!

@mrs. tictactoe: Our nursery is almost done, which is good because I'm losing motivation to do anything! I just have to hang the banner over her crib, install the knobs on the dresser and hang some art. The art has been the hardest part. I can't decide!

  12. Mrs. Lion

    blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts

@Aria: ooh I can't wait to see pictures!

Art is definitely hard. I found lots of free printables though...I don't feel as bad about those because I can always change them out later if I end up not liking them!

I am so happy to hear everyone's nursery is coming along! So crazy February will be here before you know it!

I have a silly ( and maybe dumb) question - can Braxton Hicks happen in your upper abdomen? FTM so I have never experienced them before but i keep having this random tightening in my upper abdomen and it is happening more on side. I dont think it is the baby unless she is taking her hands and squeezing /pushing my insides which is feels like. Last like 5 secs but I have no idea what it is. Thanks!

Wow you all have made such great nursery progress! We have NOT. Thankfully everything from our old office is finally cleared out of it, and we managed to paint it 2 weeks ago, but that's it! I officially entered nesting/"freak out" mode realizing how much we have left to do. The furniture is at least on its way, and I'm going to buy bedding and curtains tonight.

Where is everyone finding free printables? I searched online a little bit last night but didn't find too much I really loved.

@mtex14: I'm pretty sure I've had a few BH in my upper abdomen only. It gets very tight and hard for about 20-30 seconds. It's actually happened after he has rammed a foot or elbow or something right into it real hard - that seems to trigger it. Our childbirth instructor told us that BH are usually very localized, which is one way we can tell that they're different from labor contractions.

  15. mtex14

    cherry / 111 posts

@Kbee: thank you! That makes complete sense - thats how long it last 20-30 secs so maybe it is BH.

Just FYI, yesterday I was at Target and they had TONS of baby stuff on clearance. They had a lot of clothes and accessories on clearance, and nursery decor items as well. I picked up a changing pad cover, some hats, and socks all for 50% off. The same stuff isn't on clearance online for some reason.

  17. Mrs. Lion

    blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts

@Kbee: Depends on what kind of prints you are looking for. I had a couple ideas of bible verses...you can try searching pinterest with the search "free nursery printables". I did a lot of google image searches too.

I will add links to where mine came from later! LO just woke up from his nap so I am out of time

  18. Mrs. Rabbit

    blogger / clementine / 750 posts

@Kbee: Oh, awesome! Not that I needed another excuse to go to Target, but now I have one

Had my 32 week appt. today (I'm 32+3) and it went well. It was the fastest appt. yet. I met with one of the two docs there, so now I've met everyone on the team. I've somehow gained 5 pounds in two weeks...whoops. I'm wondering if I'm starting to retain some water. I'm also measuring a consistent 1-2 weeks ahead, so they're already guestimating a big baby again (oh, goody).

@Mrs. Rabbit: I'm interested to see how my weight gain is going to go now! My appetite has markedly decreased (and I actually am having new stomach issues, fun!) but I feel bigger daily. And oh boy on the big baby! How big was Julia? I can't believe you are 32+... this is so real!

Our nursery is done, thanks to the fact that we've already had TWO showers in past several weeks. I know I registered for all of it, but it's still shocking how much STUFF there is for one little babe! The showers were incredible and I was totally overwhelmed at how sweet the hostesses were. I'm a little overwhelmed in general lately!

I've been having a rough go of things physically and feeling pretty down, as I've mentioned. The sciatic pain is slowwwwly getting better after a couple of PT visits and lots of massages and Tylenol. I finally feel like I can deal with it, but I did commute into the city yesterday and decide I was done for 2014 So I'm working at home the rest of the week and then we're off til Jan 5. I hope some R&R will heal me!! Our holiday travel ends with a little babymoon for 3 nights at an inn & spa in our favorite beach town. Same place where I ruined our summer vacation with morning sickness, let's hope I'm more fun this time, but who knows?!

    Anyone else doing anything babymoon-y??

  20. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@loopedd: No babymoon planned, but I am definitely able to relate to your feeling down and overwhelmed! It's nice that you'll get to work from home and have some time off coming up soon!

I'm really mad at DH right now. It was very important to me from the beginning that we keep baby's name a secret until he's here. My reasoning was just that I didn't want to hear other people's opinions and relationships with the name, and just that I wanted to be able to change it if we felt it wasn't right for him once we finally met him. However, DH has now told so many people the name, and it's completely ruined it for me. I don't want to use the name anymore, but I don't really have any other names I like either. And he's dead-set on the name. I'm tearing up just thinking about it which is silly but it's really bothering me

  21. loopedd

    kiwi / 536 posts

@Circusbee: Oh man, I am so sorry about the name thing. I think you have every right to be mad about it, and I totally understand being upset. We went through a milder version of that in the first tri -- I wanted to keep SOMETHING a secret (from people we told early) and we'd picked our names early... and DH just blabbed to everyone. His reasoning was, "I don't care about their opinions, I'm not changing it anyway!" But it's a principal thing for me... and it sounds like for you too. It didn't ruin the name for me, but it felt weirdly... jinxy, maybe?

Also I wish they would just realize how everything is emotional, especially at this point, and they just need to be accommodating with these little things to help keep us sane!

  22. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@loopedd: Yeah, for me it's mostly about the principle of it all. I feel really strongly about it, so I think of it as kind of a betrayal that he just flat out ignored that. It's probably pregnancy hormones making me more sensitive about it, too.

  23. Aria

    persimmon / 1121 posts

@Circusbee: I am so sorry! I would be really upset too. I went through a similar thing. When I first got pregnant, my cousin used a name I had liked as the middle name. I made an offhanded comment to my mom about how I had liked that name. She then went and blabbed to my aunt who talked to my cousin, and then came back to me and told me she had "gotten me permission" to use the name. I had never even said I was going to use it! Totally ruined it for me and we stopped discussing it as a possibility. However, I will say that a few months later, that incident stopped bothering me so much, and the name was back on the table, because in the end it was one we loved and felt right. So be angry about it (I would be!) but don't let it sway you from a name you really love. Naming babies is too hard!

  26. Mrs. Lion

    blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts

@loopedd: @Mrs. Rabbit: Good lordy the weight gain! I have officially gained as much this pregnancy as I had at lo's birth last time, so I am feeling pretty bummed. I was hoping that since I started at 10lbs below my pre pregnancy weight with the first and was actively losing weight I would keep up my healthy habits and gain less this time. Nope. Not at all. Sugar is my nemesis...I know I need to purge all of it out of the house, but its christmas and there are cookies and chocolate everywhere! I definitely need a sugar fast after next week...maybe I can slow down the gaining for the rest of the pregnancy. I am feeling so blah. Found out yesterday that baby girl is smaller than LO was too (he was in the 50th%, she was only the 33rd%). So there's that too.

They did an ultrasound to check growth and position yesterday. She is in a complete breech position, with her head all the way up by my ribs and her feet crossed in front of her Buddha style. So between that and the fact that the placenta is in the front, it definitely explains the lack of movement I am feeling. That makes me feel a little better at least, to know why I am not feeling much.

  27. Mrs. Rabbit

    blogger / clementine / 750 posts

@loopedd: She was 9lb, 2.7 oz. So not gigantic, but definitely "big." My appetite's also decreased and I'm trying to drink water like crazy, so I think I'm starting to just retain water?

@Mrs. Lion: I'm also right at where I was last time when I gave birth and I still have 8+ weeks to go. yikes! I'm doing my 3D ultrasound (not at my OB office) this coming Monday, so I'm kinda hoping they can give me some stats on how big this baby is now...or maybe I don't want to know?

@Circusbee: I'd be sooooo mad, too. We kept Julia's name a secret and he told his mom after I told him not to tell ANYONE (i didn't even tell my mom). Well, I went home for Christmas (he was deployed) and went to my in-laws Christmas party. A woman I had never met before came up to me and said, "So how is Julia doing?" I was in so much shock that I literally turned my back to her and cried right then and there. I was so, so mad!!!! He got a very stern talking to after that party and I also told his mom not to say anything to anyone else. UGH. I'm clearly still not over it! All that to say—if you still like the name, keep it! It doesn't make it any less special!!

Anyone else straight up exhausted? I've been sooooooo tired the past few days. All I want to do is sleep all day (which I obviously can't do). Sleeping at night is getting more restless, which I think is adding to the exhaustion during the day. I'm counting down the minutes to nap time (45) and I hate to admit how much TV my daughter's been watching the past couple days.

I feel like this is a stupid question, but how quickly after eating does baby get a "taste" of what I've had? It seems like he always gets more active after I've had something sweet, but it's almost instantaneous...like within 2-3 minutes of eating a brownie after lunch, he's kicking and wiggling like crazy. Is this just a coincidence?

  29. mrs. tictactoe

    blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts

@Circusbee: Oh no, I'm so sorry. That totally sucks.

@HeartAbandoned: I also find it's right away, but I know that just can't be possible. It has to travel through out bloodstream first... I don't know.

  30. Kbee

@Circusbee: Oh man, I'm so sorry. I would be so angry. Pregnancy hormones don't help of course, but regardless it's not okay that he shared the name after the two of you decided not to tell anyone.

@HeartAbandoned: I was wondering this the other day! I feel the same way, that it feels instant after I've had sugar, but surely that can't be...

@Looped We just got back from a little babymoon. It felt like the first real vacation (not camping and not family) we have ever really been on. It was great and swimming in worm sea water felt magical. I hope rest helps you feel better!

@Circusbee I would also be so mad. We aren't sharing our name either. It's family names and I feel like it would be hard to explain to our families if we charged our minds and I wasn't the option to do that. I have told a few strangers and it felt good and strange to say the name or loud.

I had a long day on my feet today and am trying to get myself off the sofa and into the kitchen.

I went out to eat last night and the waitress went down the menue telling me what I couldn't eat. It really annoyed me and i almost ordered something she had told me I could have out of spite. I have been eating lots of things I "shouldn't" if i trust where they came from.

@Mrs. Lion: Yeah, being pregnant around the holidays and not gaining extra weight seems impossible!!

@Mrs. Rabbit: Nighttime sleep is getting more and more elusive... but during the day I could sleep standing up! No fair.

@HeartAbandoned: I've been wondering about sugar affecting him right away too! He has also been moving like a LUNATIC in general lately so I wonder if I just notice more when I'm sitting after a meal?

@maddyz: Swimming sounds lovely... what I wouldn't give to be weightless for a little while!!

Have any of you ladies ordered a breast pump yet? Most insurances are covering them 100% now!

I ordered mine months ago, and it just shipped this morning! I'm weirdly excited to get it!

@maddyz: ugh that's annoying. After the meal i would have said, so where did you get your medical degree?

    @Circusbee: I didn't order mine yet b/c I have a $4500 deductible until Dec. 31 and then on Jan 1 i have a $250 deductible. So I'm waiting for that!!

  35. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@dagret: Are you sure it counts toward your deductible? Mine was 100% free, I didn't even have to pay for shipping, and did not count toward my deductible.

@Circusbee: Good timing, I just ordered mine! Several models were totally covered but I decided to upgrade to the Medela Freestyle because it's so small and gets rave reviews from my mama friends and here on HB. I'm kinda of excited about it too... though not too excited about the idea of pumping in general haha

  37. dagret

@Circusbee: I'm pretty sure it does b/c it's not an ACA compliant plan. (ETA: My new plan is compliant with the ACA.)

  38. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@dagret: Oh, ok. bummer. No worries, though, they said they prioritize orders based on due date, and I think most of the medical supply companies do it that way.

@loopedd: I got the medela pump in style. I thought about upgrading as well, but didn't really know the difference, and friends of mine have the pump in style one and like it, so hopefully it's good!

  39. dagret

    grapefruit / 4235 posts

@Circusbee: the beginning of January should be plenty of time for me, (due end of Feb.) plus I have my PISA from my last pregnancy. I was debating about getting a freestyle this time but since I already have multiple pump parts from last time, I think i'll get another PISA.

@loopedd: The pumping series here on hellobee is very helpful. I was *so confused* about it before I went back to work but you'd be surprised how quickly you "get it" and get into a routine.

  40. loopedd

    kiwi / 536 posts

@Circusbee: I'm quite sure they all get the job done! I've heard great things about the Pump in Style too.

@dagret: SO good to know. It's one of the things I'm nervous about waaay in advance of going back to work!

We had a really great appointment this morning and got new 3D pics of our boy! This was a return to the high-risk place where we had the Level 2 u/s and he was looking perfect. Estimated 3lbs 4oz at just about 30w, 60th percentile for weight. And he gave a little smile for the pic, the u/s tech was SO excited, it was adorable Definitely makes the last couple of hard weeks feel worthwhile!
