@Circusbee I was looking at the pumps I can get online the other day. With my insurance I can't order it until Jan 22nd (one month before due date). I have about 6 different pumps to choose from. Most of which I have not heard of before. I think I will get the Pump in Style Advanced or the Laninsoh Signature pro. It's so hard to pick out something there is no way to test before hand or have any idea what you will like best.

@loopedd: soooo cute!! I'm secretly hoping the midwife can't tell what position baby boy is in on Monday so she will have to get out their u/s machine!

@Circusbee: Fingers crossed for you! We actually had two appts this morning (u/s and then OB) and at one he was head down and at the next he was head up -- moving around like a lunatic! Hopefully you get some pics too

@Circusbee: How did you find out what pumps your insurance covers? I have searched their entire website and I can't find a thing about it.

@loopedd: So cute! Love those 3D ultrasounds!

Does anyone know if you typically get an ultrasound in the third trimester, or is it only if they have a concern? My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about one, but I'd hate for my DH to miss it if I do.

@loopedd: OMG that's hilarious! I seriously can't tell which way he is ever but maybe it's because he flips all the time! I feel punches and kicks all over!

@Aria: At first I called my insurance company, who said that they do cover it, and they directed me to a page in their website that listed all the companies to choose from for ordering. Then I just looked at a few to see the options. I don't think I quite believed that it was really 100% free until I started placing my order, and the company took my insurance information and never even asked for payment info! I was actually surprised even shipping was free!

@Circusbee: I figured I could just call, but I was hoping to avoid it. I hate dealing with insurance!!

  7. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@Aria: Oh, and I think for 3rd tri u/s it just depends on your care provider. I won't get one unless there's a problem or they are having trouble figuring out what position he's in, so it won't be planned. I also think the machine they have is probably pretty ancient, so it won't be like the anatomy scan I had (I went to a local hospital for that)

  8. loopedd

    kiwi / 536 posts

@Circusbee: That's how my boy is too!!

@Aria: I'm wondering the same about more ultrasounds! Now that I'm going every 2 weeks you're reminding me I should ask next time.

Also, I used this service to get my pump: http://acelleron.com/

They will tell you what's fully covered, and obviously try to get you to upgrade, but it's not a hard sell at all. They basically just sent me all the info by email and let me choose. They work with all the major insurance companies. I'm sure it works to call your insurance directly but these guys got to me first

@Aria: Agreed! It's no fun... I have much better luck just talking to my birth center's billing department... but unfortunately they couldn't really help with this!

I also need to call my insurance and find out about the newborn hearing screening. When L was born they refused to cover it and I was too overwhelmed/tired to care so I eventually just paid the $300ish bill.

@Circusbee: I am planning on asking about this at my next appointment. I tried to find out which pumps are covered, but I can't find any info online. I already have a pump from when I had Liam, but I want another one (especially since it's free) so I can leave one at home and one at work and not have to carry it back and forth everyday.

@Circusbee: I started the process of ordering mine, but the company told me that my insurance won't let me get it until after the baby is born. So I won't have mine immediately, which I'm a little bummed about.

@loopedd: Oh my, what a cutie!! And wow he changes position often!

@Aria: My midwives don't do any ultrasounds after the anatomy scan unless there is a problem. I wish I could see what he looks like now, but I understand why they do that.

@Mrs. Lion: I also started at 10 pounds below my pre pregnancy weight with this pregnancy. I don't know how much weight I gained with B but I know that I've gained about the same now as I did by the end of the first pregnancy. It's definitely been hard on me, I always assumed this pregnancy would be 'easier' and I would gain less and bla bla as I'd been through it before.

@maddyz: that's awesome you had a babymoon! I bet it was amazing to get away for a little bit!

    @loopedd: what an adorable picture!

I have a medela swing pump from my first pregnancy. I really liked it, but I think I remember that there was something wrong with the suction by the end of using it. I need to dig it out and have a look and see if I can fix it.

I've been off work since last Friday, I officially started mat leave which is nice. It's been so busy though, it was Dh's bday yesterday, we're having an xmas party on Sat, then next week is all full of xmas stuff. I wasn't feeling well yesterday and woke up puking in the middle of the night. I don't know if it was pregnancy, or the flu or my body just saying to slow down but it sucked!

We still haven't even started the nursery, I'm starting to sort of stress about it. We've started to clear it out and that's it. I know it's no big deal as she won't be in there for the first 3 months, but I'd really like to get it done!

@Aria: When we did the anatomy scan at 20 weeks, the U/S tech said we'd do another U/S at 36 weeks to check position. I asked about it yesterday at my 32 week appointment, and they called it a "head check" and scheduled me with the U/S tech for my 36 week appt on Jan. 15th. I'll also get my Group B Strep test then. I think my little guy is like a lot of yours, though - moving all over the place all the time! So who knows if where he is at 36 weeks is where he'll be when it's go time!

Re: Breast Pumps - I started by asking at my doctor's office, and they were under the impression that I wouldn't be able to get one until after the baby was born. I didn't feel like that was true, and a nurse practitioner friend told me to go ahead and talk to insurance, because care providers don't usually know what insurance will really cover. So I called my insurance company on Tuesday, and they told me that my plan (high-deductible HSA) would cover a single manual pump, and that I could buy it anywhere (Target, Walmart, Buy Buy Baby), and they would reimburse up to $28. I REALLY didn't like that answer, so I got on Medela's website, and found this website: http://www.breastpumps.aeroflowinc.com/breast-pumps/. I filled out the online qualification form on Tuesday, and got an email yesterday saying that they were an in-network provider with my insurance, and I had my choice of one of three double-electric pumps covered at 100%! Like someone else said, they tried to upsell me, but only in that they presented my options to me a couple of times. I decided to go with the Medela PISA, and the ticket went in for it yesterday. The woman who was emailing said it would be shipped within 2 business days, and arrive 2-3 business days after that. I'll get a tracking number from UPS when it ships. I never gave anyone a credit card number. Apparently the woman from the insurance company that I talked to on the phone didn't really know what my plan covered...so I'd try one of the websites recommended on the thread first!

@MrsB2012: I'm so jealous your mat leave has already started, but I hate that you're not feeling well! Hopefully you feel better very soon.

I looked on my health insurance benefits and they only cover "the rental of one breast pump per birth, includes related supplies." Does this mean I'll get a used breast pump? That just sounds...yucky. Anyone else have this stipulation in their health benefits?

@GreeneB2: this would probably be for a hospital grade, which is actually better!

I called my insurance company and got someone very knowledgeable and helpful. I have bcbs. They told me what I was eligible for and recommended a couple medical supply companies to go through. I would directly contact them first...it may not be as bad as you are expecting and you will get the most accurate info I would imagine.

@HeartAbandoned: j would call your insurance company back and complain! They should. Or be giving out incorrect information like that. I alost feel like that should be illegal....as if they are trying to get out of paying for what they are required to provide. I would be pissed!

How's everyone doing? My belly is definitely getting in the way of things lately—at the sink, when I'm cooking, trying to hold my daughter, opening the washer/dryer, etc. Whew! Seven(ish) more weeks!

@Mrs. Rabbit: Same here! I keep running into things!

I am doing ok. Christmas prep has kept me busy. I'm looking forward to January...nothing really left on the to do list. Going to try to spend lots of quality time with LO. It's hard to believe this is our last month just the two of us!

I got out his baby doll that my mom gave him when he was born, the bouncer, a bottle, and a blanket so we can start pretending to take care of the "baby" We shall see how that goes haha.

@Mrs. Rabbit: my husband thinks the funniest thing is the belly catching things when I'm cooking -- it was covered in flour over the weekend as I was baking Christmas cookies!

@Mrs. Lion: So sweet your LO has his own baby to practice on! How much do you think he understands about what's about to happen??

I am doing okay, too. I am finally getting some real relief from my back pain (which both PT and massage therapist now think was SI joint pain and not sciatic...in any case it's easing up!). Two more weeks without commuting will help too.

One fun update - we got a new car this weekend to drive this baby around in! We've survived a long time with one car since I commute by public transportation, but since I'll be home a lot more than usual until he's born, and then for a good while after he's born, we really needed to make it happen. We got an incredible year end deal on a Kia Sorento and I haven't had a new car in 10 years... so it's been fun and I am just picturing him in the backseat now

I also bought some milk this weekend that expires in Feb and I thought, wow, my baby could be born by the time this goes bad... crazy!!

@loopedd: Haha I don't think he has any idea! Although baby sister got a new toy for Xmas this past weekend that he was obsessed with...and when I asked him to go put it on the shelf in baby sisters room he did, and hasn't gotten it back out probably a fluke. Poor kid has no idea what he is in for! He's pretty laid back though. I'm hoping he will be ok

@Mrs. Rabbit: Doing pretty good here. My parents are coming into town tomorrow, so that will keep me busy for the next week. I had an appointment today, and now they're scheduled every two weeks. I'll have an ultrasound at my 36 week appointment and we're going to talk about delivery. I can't believe how fast February is approaching!

@loopedd: Ooh fun, new car! Glad you're feeling better!

@loopedd: I'm jealous that you got a new car! My car has been driving me nuts lately and I want a new one. Probably won't happen for a while, though.

It's 3:25am, I've been awake since 1:30, and I'm hungry. Good thing I don't have to go to work tomorrow and can sort of sleep in (until Liam is up).

@loopedd: My husband also gets a laugh out of food falling on my belly! It IS pretty funny So glad you are feeling some relief from your back pain! And hooray for a new car!! So many exciting things happening!

@Aria: Have a great time with your parents in town! We're going to visit my parents tomorrow until Sunday, and I can't believe it's the last time we'll be at their house without a baby! February is definitely approaching so fast!

We finally got our nursery furniture delivered and DH put it together last night. He's been such a sweetie and has been working so hard these last few weeks on all of our house projects. Now it's my turn to get on the nursery decor! We're thinking of getting a large decal from Etsy. It's pricey and I'm hesitant, but just so cute and would be an easy way to add some decor! Anyone else looked into decals?

  30. loopedd

    kiwi / 536 posts

@Kbee: We did a decal! There's a pic of it in the nursery thread I think. It was like $90 from Etsy but super easy to apply (I am the opposite of crafty or handy) and looks great, I think. Took care of one wall at least, since we're not painting!

Good morning, ladies! 32 weeks here, and I've started getting cramping, like period cramps. Is this what Braxton hicks feels like? Or something else? Won't be going to see the doctor until the new year so I thought I'd check with you guys!

  34. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@GreeneB2: That sounds kind of like what I'm feeling and have amounted to Braxton Hicks! Sometimes it's that "warm" crampy feeling way down low like really mild period cramps, and sometimes it's more like tightening in a specific place. My midwives just keep saying to call if I feel it more intensely or 4-ish times in one hour or if they don't subside by changing my activity level. Like if you're laying down, then get up and walk around, or if you're more active, then try laying down for awhile.

  35. Mrs. Lion

    blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts

@GreeneB2: I spent the night last night in L&D with something similar....I was having weird pains all and by the time I got to talk to my OB about it they were more crampy feeling like that. She had me go in and they admitted me. After 2 hours of being hooked up to the monitors and seeing nothing (except a healthy heartbeat!) they were about to discharge me, assuming they were either BH or irregular caused by dehydration or too much activity. They left me hooked up while we waited for my urinalysis results.

Well, in the mean time, after almost 2 hours on the monitors, they started. At first it was just a tightening at the top of my uterus which felt just like baby's back pushing out...but because I was hooked to the monitor I could see a wave, where they grew in intensity and then faded. They were occuring every 2 minutes roughly, and by about 20 minutes in they felt like period cramps and they kind of radiated down from the top, and around my back. These definitely felt different from what I was feeling earlier in the day, and they were predictable. Eventually they got them slowed down and stopped with some meds and we are back home now, with instructions to take another dose of meds if I have 6 in one hour. No dialation though, so I am not technically in preterm labor. We are hoping to keep it that way.

All that to say, there is definitely a difference between the crampy feeling I was having before and the actual measurable contractions. My OB said she was only concerned about the ones that start with a tightness at the top and radiate around to your back. If you have that feeling and you have more than 4 in an hour, you should call your ob. But really, if you are having any type of feeling like that and you are worried, call your ob. I am really glad I was there when this started happening. It was pretty scary.

  36. GreeneB2

    cherry / 120 posts

@Circusbee: Yeah, it definitely feels like dull, achy period cramps, nothing too bad, but they're also not really going away. I had them all last night and they've stuck around this morning, as well.

@Mrs. Lion: Oh my goodness, how scary! I'm glad you and the baby are ok!

@GreeneB2: Yeah, my BH feel like a charlie horse in my stomach, and definitely only in the front! You've already gotten all the good advice -- just take notice of frequency.

@Mrs. Lion: Wow, what a story! I'm so glad you're not in preterm labor, though sorry you're experiencing all that. Stay put, baby!

Merry Christmas Eve, everybody!! We're starting our 8 days of travel this afternoon. It's gross and rainy which should make for a fun time on the road! DH and I exchanged gifts last and he wrapped up a present for me from the baby -- the two largest Reese's PB cups I have ever seen, half a pound each! That baby knows me well

I hope everyone had a great christmas!

I've had a cold since last Thursday and now it has turned in to a terrible cough. I can't sleep, it makes me pee myself constantly, and sometimes I cough so hard I throw up. Not fun at all. My OB called me in a prescription for robitussin with codeine and I'm a little scared to take it, but I need sleep. She said it's safe, but it's category C. I don't know if suffering through it is any better, though.

  39. Mrs. Rabbit

    blogger / clementine / 750 posts

@mrs. tictactoe: I had an absolutely horrible cough the last time I was pregnant (I think I mentioned somewhere that it was so bad I thought I literally broke a rib and went the the ER twice because of it). They prescribed me the same thing and I was really hesitant to take it, but then I did and felt relief. I feel for you, and hope you can find some relief, too. If it helps, the second I had my daughter the cough went away. It was crazy that it lingered so long and was so brutal, and then was gone almost immediately after I had her.

edit to add: get yourself some poise pads for that pee!!

  40. mrs. tictactoe

    blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts

@Mrs. Rabbit: I took it last night and still feel kind of woozy from it, but it helped me get a full night's sleep, so I'm ok with it. I'm only taking it before bed instead of every 6 hours like the script says, so hopefully it won't be bad for the baby. And yes, using menstrual pads now, but will get some poise next time I'm at the store! It's needed!!!!
