@Mrs. Blue: That looks great!! I want a piece like right now.

@Smurfette: The cake tasted soo yummy! Not healthy, but delicious! I dislike buttercream, so I wasn't a fan of the icing, but that's just me.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Try a cream cheese one. Either way you decorated the outside of the cake great!

That looks DELICIOUS
@mrs. blue try Swiss Meringue Buttercream! it's the perfect frosting. Not too sweet and it makes PLENTY: http://sweetapolita.com/2011/04/swiss-meringue-buttercream-demystified/

@blackbird: yum! That sounds delicious. Is it fairly stiff like regular buttercream? I just need to make sure I can use it to decorate,

OMG - I just counted the YES Rsvp's so far and we're at 62 including kids! Eek! And most of our family didn't even RSVP, so... I'm thinking some people will flake out and not show up right? Especially when kids and people are always sick? lol
I think the clubhouse said 40-50 people, but I think a dozen extra wouldn't be a problem and people come and go at different times? Lots of "I think" I know.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrs. blue, YES stiff when it's a bit chill! If you stick it in the fridge, it hardens up like a brick of butter. But when it's room temp, it's super soft and pliable. yet holds its shape. I find it easier to work with than buttercream. It is the BEST to decorate with. You can get a super smooth finish with it and it makes those rosettes and ruffles REALLY nicely. It is definitely my go-to

We haven't sent out the invites but the party isn't until mid-March and I actually am hoping that some people won't be able to come because we are inviting more than we can fit in our house! Yikes! It's the weekend before spring break though so we think some people will be going out of town. I think if we wait to send the invites, more people might have plans already. (That sounds terrible but... I can't fit everyone! I mean, everyone we know has at least 2 kids and that adds up fast! We were the last of our friends and family to have kids so everyone is excited for little man's b-day and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out!)

@Mrs. Blue: that cake looks amazing!!!
@blackbird: I may have to give your frosting a try too - I wasn't a huge fan of my trial buttercream
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@blackbird: Perfect! I'm going to try it on my practice run of the whole shebang.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Just remember, when it's all curdled and gross looking, keep blending! It takes a good 10 min or so to come together. You'll really think it's ruined for awhile there!

@Mrs. Blue: That cake looks delicious!
@shopaholic: Wow that's a lot of people!!
I feel really unorganised over here after reading what everyone else has been up to. Am having a party planning sesh on Friday though with my friend who is doing the cake so I should be able to get more done after that. I should start buying supplies to make the decorations at least. Haha

@shopaholic: Oh wow!!! That's a lot of people!!!! I hope it ends up working out okay with the number and the clubhouse!
@blackbird: haha, that's how I felt when I was making a buttercream icing! At first I was like "Ewww, this is sooooooo not working!" and then suddenly it started to look right!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: This is why we are going to just family. 40+ with just family. I am still super bummed by it.
@blackbird: I might have to try that. Only I don't have a whisk attachment for the mixer.....Have you frozen it before?
@travellingbee: I am just praying it is going to be nice out here so we can use our huge deck instead of everyone in our living room which isn't that big.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@smurfette, yep i have! It freezes wonderfully. You do not want to use a whisk with this. It's too much butter so it'll just end up bending your whisk. I use the regular paddle attachment. It makes something like 10 cups of frosting, so i'll portion it out into bags, freeze it, and then use what i need.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@blackbird: It says use the whisk for the first part and then switch to the paddle. Good to know. I will try it!

I got my invitations addressed last night. I put some star stickers on the front and then some glitter washi tape on the back. They look so cute!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@smurfette, oh crap you're right, for the egg white whipping part. I forgot about that. You could just use a hand beater. Do you have a hand mixer? it will take longer but it will work!

I started on the tutus for the little girls attending the party last night. Ridiculous - I stayed up until almost 2am and finished 3. But I can already tell I'm going to love seeing all the girls in their tutus!
Booked our cake/dessert lady and just ordered a ton of cute paper straws!
@smurfette: the invites sound so cute! I love washi tape and stars and glitter!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: Girl, you are making tutus for all the girls? That is a lot of work. Impressive. Granted it will be SO cute and worth it.
persimmon / 1223 posts
@shopaholic: Tutus? That's amazing! You will have to share some pics!
Ok so I wasn't originally going to do any favors since there won't be that many kids coming... and I probably shouldn't but now I kind of want to do a little something because it would be so cute. I don't know what would be good though - maybe just a cookie or something - I could do a letter shaped ones and put them in little bags. Any other simple/inexpensive ideas to go with our alphabet theme?
PS: I think pinterest is evil. I am realizing it is a very good thing that it did not exist while I was wedding planning.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@dojo: Not sure how much these cost or what age group kids you have coming, but the magnetic letters for the fridge?
Gummi Alphabets?
Trader Joe makes Cinnamon Animal Crackers in Alphabet letters. One container would be enough if you aren't having a lot of kids.
I agree about pinterest. Love/Hate relationship
persimmon / 1223 posts
@Smurfette: Ooh good ideas! Maybe I'll check out Trader Joe's since that would be super easy!

@shopaholic: I am a sucker for a tutu. That party is going to be perfect. Are you doing anything for the boys?
@dojo: I love the favor boxes smurfette suggested! The alphabet magnet letters are super cheap at Target. They're with the utensils.
I can't believe Sadie's party is in 2 days! And. I have an enormous zit on my chin, go figure. I hope it goes away before I have to be in a bunch of pictures!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Wow! You're making tutus for the girls attending??? Crazy! Do you have any little boys coming too? Are you doing anything special for them?
@dojo: Yay for favors! I hope you find something you love that's not too expensive!!
@photojane: Holy smokes! Your party is this weekend??? CRAZY! And I have no idea if this will work, but on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (I know, I know, *shame*), one of the girls recommended using visine eye drops on a zit to make it go away! You could try that!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: @dojo: @photojane: Thanks ladies! I totally need IDEAS for the boys! A bow tie would be easy - but seems really out of place for a Carnaval theme. I'm thinking some mardi gras beads and tambourines for them? Or any other suggestions?
@dojo: Seriously! SO glad there wasn't Pinterest when I was getting married too! lol! I saw someone posted on IG the other day the wooden letter magnets on a fridge. Looked really fun and cute!
@photojane: omg! Sadie's party is in 2 days?!?! Wow! Good luck mama!
P.S. Our 1 year photoshoot/cake smash photographer wrote me today saying that they have to move out of state suddenly and she's sorry she can't do our pics anymore. I guess it was for her DH's job. But waaah! She was the most reasonable priced I could find and I've loved our last 2 sessions with her.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: I think a bow tie would go for a Carnaval theme! You just want to make them bright colors! You could also make them matching vests or top-hats or something too, haha. And for the favors, I think the beads and tambourines would be good!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@photojane: Did you try Windex? It worked in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, haha! Also toothpaste will dry it out.
I can't wait to see pictures on IG from Sadies's party.
@shopaholic: Bummer about the photographer! Bow ties would be cute. Or what about some kind of crazy hat? Or a mask?

I started buying stuff this past weekend- I just keep buying stuff for goodie bags! Whoops- looks like they will be fun!
Is anyone having their party not at their home? I need ideas for games to play since we are having his party at my work (dance studio) and there are no toys to play with! I was thinking- pin the head on the caterpillar, maybe a craft station with play dough to make caterpillars or egg cartons to make caterpillars? I dunno-we have kids of all ages invited- from 1 yr olds to 12 year olds....
I have to take a picture of the invitation I made- and see if you ladies approve!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@cheert16: Pin the tail would be cute! Could you get mop buckets, form like a caterpillar and have the kids throw a ball in them? Make it game for points
There are a ton of stuff on pinterest. So many cute ideas.

What are the dates of a your parties? Ours is March 15th.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
I have no idea what kinds of activities to have. I'm banking on it being a nice day (pretty likely here) and plan on having a bubble machine and some sidewalk chalk for the driveway. And I was thinking about buying a bounce house for the backyard. One that we could keep and reuse. If everyone came, we could have 22 kids ranging in age from 1 to 8! Yikes!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Our neighbors have a bounce house. I told DH we should see if we can borrow it, only we haven't ever talked to them since we moved in a year ago. I can't decide if we are going to have anything. I don't have room for a craft, unless it is really nice out. Since it is just family, I figure they can just play. I will probably get some bubbles, balls, etc for them to play without side. Cause I am hoping and praying the weather is nice.
Our party is March 15th!
nectarine / 2631 posts
I thought about a bounce house- my babysitter has an indoor one- that would totally fit in one of the studio rooms. But then I am super nervous that something would happen and it would get broken and I would have to buy a new one!
Our party is April 13th. (I was originally a March Momma-but LO had other ideas and was 2 weeks late making him an April baby- but I liked my March board so much- that I still stay on it!)

@Smurfette: Good idea about the tossing game. Urg Pintrest and I have a love hate relationship.... my party will never looks as cool as those parties do!

@cheert16: Yeah mine isn't going to look like pinterest parties either, but at least it gives you good ideas.
