When is your next appointment? My first appt is tomorrow!

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I'm a stay at home mom. Do you have a name picked out yet? No

Have you started working on the nursery yet? Nope

What theme are you going with? Not sure

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? Nope

What are you most excited about? The birth

I love this! Please know I'm still following ladies!

How many weeks are you now: 15+2

When is your next appointment: October 27th is my centering group with the midwives, then again the week before thanksgiving for the anatomy scan!

What is your occupation? How much time will you and SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives?: I am a Speech-Language Pathologist for the most severe kiddos in the district I serve. I will be taking the remainder of the school year off (~10 weeks) and the summer in total for around 18 weeks. Hubby is planning one full week and a couple days here and there after if I am struggling. I plan on returning full time in the fall to the same position, but a district closer to home just posted an opening for next year and I'm debating it.

Do you have a name picked out yet?: We have a list of names we've agreed on, but won't be sharing the name even with family prior to baby arriving.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning?: Nope, and I don't think I'll be planning. I'm too type A and if something goes "wrong" I would panic. I'm going with midwives who know I cannot have an epidural (previous experience & 15 degree curve in my spine) and hoping for the best...

Have you started working on the nursery yet?: Nope! Well, I started clearing it out this last weekend!

What theme are you going with?: If it's a boy- vintage cars (navy, rust, gray and white), girl-polka dots and floral (silver, Aqua, coral and navy)

Do you have any baby shower plans yet?: No, I hate being the center of attention, but I know there will be a family one. I work with so many teachers at different schools-but the psychologist I work with accidentally slipped and told me February (she's a horrible liar and I love her).

What are you most excited about?: Being a family of 5 (2 furries) and watching my husband be a father!

What are you most nervous about?: labor, birth, and anxiety after

How many weeks are you now?
    ---18 tomorrow

    When is your next appointment?
---Oct. 26th and its my 20 week anatomy scan. While all ya'll are excited I am so scared!!! I am not sure, just can't shake it.

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives?
---I am a Kindergarten teacher. I love it! I will be keeping my job and since I moved districts and I am not tenured yet I have to work a certain amount of days for this year to count towards tenure. My due date is a week ahead of that. So with the exact right timing if I am lucky I can use my sick days and take off the rest of the year then the summer without going back. I am hoping this is how it works out. If not then I may need to go back between a few days to a few weeks to fill in the days I need. So we will just have to wait and see. DH is taking four or six. If I have to go back to work he is going to watch baby boy while I am at work.

Do you have a name picked out yet?
---We sure do! We still go back and forth but I am pretty sure its stuck. But we aren't telling anyone either.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning?
---UHH... considering this whole thing is totally new to me I plan to just go with the flow, well I hope. I tend to freak out and panic so we will see what happens. I think though if I read too much it make me freak out more. I am the person who can't even stand needles so this whole labor thing is kinda freaking me out. Definitely an epidural over here!

Have you started working on the nursery yet? What theme are you going with?
---Well we cleaned it out this past weekend. Slowly but surely. Our theme is old vintage trucks and gray, blue, white colors. I am so excited!!!

Do you have any baby shower plans yet?
---Yes I already have two planned for the month of Jan. and I am pretty sure I will also have a school shower. Another teacher is due is Jan. and we are currently planning her school shower and they have talked about mine ha!

What are you most excited about?
---Meeting this baby, and being a mommy, and being a family.

What are you most nervous about?
---Everything!!!!!! being a mommy, adjusting to a baby, LABOR!!!! oh a whole load of crap! This is totally a new adventure and new things scare me to pieces! EKK

@Weswife: you sound just like me! My husband builds cars (mainly race cars) but his old cars are favs for side jobs!

  6. Weswife

    apricot / 458 posts

@mrsmacSLP: my husband grew up watching drag racing and wanted to do it... he just grew too big ha! (Tall, to fit in the cars) he has several friends who drag race though. And he all around love cars! He's the guy who rolls down windows nonstop to hear engines! Drives me nuts! ๐Ÿ˜Š So our compromise was trucks ๐Ÿ˜Š... well more just my plan but he loved it. I didn't want a racing room. I ordered a onesie though for photos that says "I am told I like racing" and already talked to our newborn photographer about using race car stuff โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Oh also he fixed a few cars with his dad and dreams of having a massive garage to continue that... they would get along!!

When is your next appointment? Nov 3

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I am a photo retoucher. I am taking 4 months, my husband gets 1 month paid paternity (!) I plan to work 4 days a week 3-4 months when I return, hen ultimately go back to full time. I did this with my first son, and I found that a 3 day weekend / 4 day week really is the ideal schedule for me. I wish I could keep it forever!

Do you have a name picked out yet? We have a few - boys are SO HARD!

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? I had a 'birth plan' last time, and I learned how much good it did. I plan to give birth at Cedars Hospital near me. I would love to do a birth center, but since my insurance doesn't cover it, I'm not willing to go out of pocket on something I can get for free. I hope for a med free vaginal birth..

Have you started working on the nursery yet? What theme are you going with? This little guy will get the nursery my son is still in - we have to prep my son's "big boy" room.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? No

What are you most excited about? My maternity leave, and baby snuggles

What are you most nervous about? Having a healthy babe!

How many weeks are you now? 17+3

When is your next appointment? Tomorrow and then the anatomy scan on Halloween.

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? Iโ€™m a data monkey at a large transportation company. I will have 8 weeks STD and then work from home for 4 weeks. My SO owns his own company and works from home so heโ€™ll be working the whole time but will be helping out a lot. I plan on keeping the same schedule when I get back to work.

Do you have a name picked out yet? No names yet and its starting to stress me out!

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? Planned C-Section. I had an emergency C-section last time and while I feel some guilt for not trying a VBAC, Iโ€™m already high-risk enough. Iโ€™m excited knowing it is going to be scheduled.

Have you started working on the nursery yet? What theme are you going with? We were going to move before the baby got here but we are holding off because it was too much. The baby will be in our room for a while and then eventually share a room with its sister until we move. But I had a gray & aqua โ€œunder the seaโ€ theme for my daughter and still love it.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? No, but I have the feeling my sister-in-law might throw me a very small sprinkle.

What are you most excited about? To see what the baby looks like and if itโ€™s a boy or girl. My husband and I both have dark hair and brown eyes and our daughter has blondish hair and bright blue eyes. Itโ€™ll be interesting to see how the baby turns out. Who knows, maybe a red head with green eyes?

What are you most nervous about? The babyโ€™s health. Just hoping for a healthy and happy baby!

When is your next appointment? Oct 21

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I work in IT, systems analyst. I will be taking 12 weeks off, saved my PTO throughout the years so it will all be paid. My hubs will probably take 1 week off. I plan on going back full time after my leave.

Do you have a name picked out yet? We are leaning towards Harvey Wilder or Penelope Louise but have a few others on the list. We won't decide until after the baby is born.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? My second son was a VBAC, so I am hoping for the same this time, although a shorter labor would be nice.

Have you started working on the nursery yet? Since we are team green, it will be gender neutral and fairly simple. Going with a loose southwest theme, cactus, bison, etc. I will post a pic when we are done!

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? No, our life group might do a sprinkle because they are super generous but it's really not needed since this is baby 3.

What are you most excited about? Finding out gender at birth, labor/delivery, my maternity leave, baby snuggles, nursing, watching DS2 become a big bro, watching DS1 interact with baby, etc etc!! I am slightly baby obsessed. ha.

What are you most nervous about? Having a healthy baby and safe delivery.

How many weeks are you now? 19+4

When is your next appointment? Oct 18th, our anatomy scan. Gender (maybe) discovery day. I'm getting more and more anxious to just find out because I really think we're having a girl this time, but I thought DS was a girl too, so, my record isn't great! LOL

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I am currently unemployed, so I'm doing my obligatory job searches and application submissions, but will focus my efforts stronger when the baby is born. So I guess I have as much maternity leave as I need this time around. My husband will probably take a week or so off, depending on how much PTO he's accrued.

Do you have a name picked out yet? I wish I could say yes, but none of the names seem 'right' to me. I didn't really think DS was a "colton" until he was six months old, though. So, perhaps I'm just terrible at naming things?

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? Right now, I'm slated to do a planned C-section with a tubal ligation. I think we're going to stick with that as a plan.

Have you started working on the nursery yet? The room is painted and new flooring is going in on the entire upstairs in the next few weeks. The theme is a woodland theme as we started on the Team Green first, which made it easy for me to add gold/pinks if it was a girl and more oranges/blues if it was a boy.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? We don't really "need" anything and the upgrades we do want (dual baby monitor, new baby carseat) we'll probably just get ourselves.

What are you most excited about? Not being pregnant any more. I know there are women out there (and I was/am one of them) that struggled to get pregnant or never get to experience that, but that doesn't change that I really do not enjoy being pregnant and not feeling like I'm in control of my own body.

What are you most nervous about? Breastfeeding and the surgical recovery. DS1 never took to the boob and so I exclusively pumped for nearly 7 months before weaning. I'm hoping to have better lactation support this time around, but also have no experience to fall back on AND I'll be handling a toddler as well. I'm also nervous about what the lifting restrictions will do to the routine that DS and I have established for so long.

When is your next appointment? Nov 1

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I'm a developer. I get one week paid full, 6 weeks at 60%. Maybe they'll roll out new benefits during open enrollment this year, we'll see. But for now my plan is two months off and splitting my last FMLA month into two months of part time. It was a good way to transition back last time and this way I won't be full time till DH's summer break.

Do you have a name picked out yet? Haha, last time we spent ages before the baby was born coming up with (and ranking) names. This time, DH keeps suggesting names and I'm just never in the mood. So no.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? Well I'm hoping this time I don't go into labor while on holiday in another state. That was one miserably long drive to the hospital. Other than that, the only thing I have planned is my epidural

Have you started working on the nursery yet? We're making room for baby in DS' room, but aren't sure how that's going to pan out yet. We rent, so we're limited to a rug and hanging stuff on the walls.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? Nope. Didn't really have one the first time and don't anticipate one this time.

What are you most excited about? Weirdly, the birth. I didn't have any tears or cuts last time because I tried to slow down for my doctor to get to the hospital and baby just came out without much effort from me. So I want to know if my body is just meant to pop out babies like the nurses said haha

What are you most nervous about? Toddler adjusting to the baby and daycare costs for 2. Honestly, finding a place for DS before the end of the year that can take a baby too has bumped out any other concerns I'd typically have right now.

Love seeing all of these responses!

@Mrs. Pen: @OskarsMommy: Not gonna lie, I'm reeeeally looking forward to maternity leave too.

@Mrsmacslp: @weswife: You guys managed to time this pregnancy perfectly with your teaching schedules - how awesome that you'll get most of the summer off as well!

@weswife: I actually think avoiding a super in-depth plan is the way to go! Make sure you know your options and all that, but your baby probably isn't going to pay much attention to even the best laid plans, haha. Having a baby is definitely an adventure, but the absolute best kind there is!

@ShesKrafty: DS1 has blue eyes and blond hair like my husband - I'm really crossing my fingers that DS2 has brown hair and green eyes like me

@Lilyann: Penelope Louise is absolutely ADORABLE. Love that!

@Jennen: Hahaha, I'm also really bad at predicting the sex - I had such a strong feeling that it was a girl this time, which in turn convinced me it must be a boy because my instincts are always wrong. (Aaaannnd it's a boy, so maybe I was right in the end?!) I'm also totally with you on having my body back - I'm so grateful to be able to be pregnant and carry a baby to term, but it's not exactly my idea of fun.

    When is your next appointment?
Oct 20th for a dr appt, and Oct 31 for my ultrasound

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives?
I'm an LPN ( Licensed practical nurse)
I will probably be off work for about 14 months. I know, I'm extremely lucky. I usually go off work around 30 weeks on medical leave and then have an additional year off after that.

My husband will probably just take 1 week of vacation

I will probably keep the same job, but my husband wants me to get another job with better hours.

Do you have a name picked out yet?
Not even close. It's going to be a fight I think. I'm sure we will have another girl. My husband wants to give the middle name as his moms name. Thing is, I hate his mom. Everything about her is like nails on a chalk board for me. There's absolutely no way that I want a child named after her. We were talking about it last night, but dropped it as we didn't want to fight. I'm going to try and get him to do his Grandma's name ( though being Mary, I find it really hard to find a first name that flows well with Mary.) I have 2 middle names picked out that I like, but I don't think he will let me use them.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning?
My plan always has been and always will be "go with the flow, and do whatever to get baby here safely"

Have you started working on the nursery yet? What theme are you going with?
Nope, our house it going up for sale on Friday so no point starting something when hopefully we won't be here. I won't put something together until after we move.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet?
Nope, it's my third baby, so we don't need another shower. Only had one for the first.

What are you most excited about?
Time off with my girls. Being done having kids, this pregnancy is hard.

What are you most nervous about?
Not really nervous about anything, at this point, I feel like a professional haha.

How many weeks are you now? 16 weeks today

When is your next appointment? For my headaches, Friday. For the baby, November 2nd then my anatomy scan on November 3rd.

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I am an HR Manager. I just started a new job so although I don't qualify for FMLA they are going easy on me. I'm going to get 4 weeks paid, 8 weeks unpaid (yikes!!) with a total of 12 weeks off. My organization just passed an infants at work policy so I will be able to bring the baby to work when I return, up until it's mobile. I will probably do that only one or two days a week, with working one day a week at home, and husband working a day a week at home. That way we can ease more into daycare, only doing one or two days a week, until the baby is a bit older. Hopefully this will help to save some money. My husband is in school getting his PhD so we're not sure if he'll get anytime off or how much yet.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? This is my first rodeo - I'm not even sure what a birth plan is yet!

Have you started working on the nursery yet? Yes, we bought a rug and a crib last weekend and are planning to put things together slowly to mitigate the cost over time.

Is there a theme? No, we're just getting things we like that go together nicely.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? Yes, having a shower with my family in Seattle and then his family in Portland all in one weekend. We live in CO so we are flying out for all of this a weekend in late January.

What are you most excited about? My maternity leave and having a baby!!

What are you most nervous about? I'm nervous about everything - breastfeeding, gaining too much weight, going back to work, not knowing what the hell I'm doing, if our cat (our first born) is going to love the baby, how broke we're going to be, struggling with wanting to quit my job, what to even do with a baby, etc., etc.

When is your next appointment? Oct 20 and then the 26th is out anatomy scan. We were team green the first time around but I need to know this time!

What is your occupation? How much time will you and your SO take off? Are you planning to keep the same job/schedule after LO arrives? I'm taking the full 12 weeks this time. I only did about 8 with DD and it wasn't enough! Only 4 is paid though DH will probably take a week off. I was hoping to go back to work part time, but i don't think my company will let me. Big decisions to make once this baby is born.

Do you have a name picked out yet? Yes, but they are top secret.

Do you have a birth plan? If so, what are you planning? I'm planning on going with the flow. I did it with DD and it went perfectly. I have this weird idea in my head that the more I try to plan, the more it will go the opposite of my plans...so if I don't make plans everything will go smoothly! Lol

Have you started working on the nursery yet? This baby will share a room with DD so it's already done.

What theme are you going with? Her room is a dark teal with gold and white accents.

Do you have any baby shower plans yet? Nope, most likely not going to have one since I have most everything I need.

What are you most excited about? Seeing DD as a big sister.

What are you most nervous about? Trying to figure out whether I'll be staying at my full time job or making a change to a company that offers part time. I love my job, but my mom watches DD full time and will also watch the baby. I don't want to overload her but I can't afford daycare so it's a tough decision.

  30. raspberries

@Beth24: I feel you - I have to have a difficult conversation with my boss about going part-time after this baby comes, and I'm really not looking forward to it. It's just not financially smart for us to pay for full-time daycare for two - it'd be my entire monthly salary plus $250.

I had my 20-week check-up today - measuring on track, baby boy's heartbeat was 145, and I've gained 11lbs so far (not sure how I feel about that last point, but it could be worse, haha.) AND DH was able to feel kicks for the first time this past weekend. Can't believe it's already the half-way point!

@raspberries: I'm trying to be optimistic while also getting a back up plan together if they say no to part time. It's so hard to walk away from a job I really enjoy, but family has to come first at this point. Good luck with your boss!

  33. Mrs. Pen

@raspberries: @Beth24: I as well as struggling with my job. I just don't love it at all. My ideal would be going down to three days a week! But DH is still unemployed so I can't bank on that.
He is about to trial a potential position that is remote (work from home), he can set his own hours and work as much/as little as he wants. But it's a start-up company so I'm worried about long term. The nice thing about flexibility would be that he would potentially keep the baby with him maybe two days and we'd only need someone to watch the baby once a week.
But I just don't know what it'll look like on the job front for us both around that time and it's a little scary!!
I'm also considering switching jobs altogether.

Somewhat related: did either of you have supply issues going back to work? My sister told me she's only personally known one mom who could keep up supply when she returned to work.
I stayed home with my first for a year so I didn't have to worry about it.

  34. Beth24

    cherry / 223 posts

@Mrs. Pen: I was able to keep my supply up until I got a nasty stomach flu when DD was about 9 months old and it wiped me out. Not gonna lie, it was tough to make it work and it took a lot of will power. I am lucky in that my mom watches DD and she is a huge proponent of breast feeding and was great at portioning out the bottles I left her. DD started going to daycare 1 day a week around 6 months old. They gave her a bottle anytime she cried and kept telling me I wasn't giving them enough. It sucked having them tell me to give them more bottles but I wasn't physically able to produce enough. Thank goodness it was only 1 day a week!

@Weswife: Haha, I think that's a good strategy - my doctor was never concerned the first time around (and I gained almost 50lbs!) But there's a new doctor at the practice that I've seen twice now and both times she's told me how much I've gained. I kind of want to tell her to just keep it to herself unless there's something to worry about.

@Mrs. Pen: @Beth24: My supply took a hit for sure, but I didn't have a whole lot to begin with - we supplemented from the start (and unless things are much different this time, we'll probably do the same again.) Two of my coworkers were pumping at the same time and they both had at least a slight drop in supply as well. BUT the one was a second time mom, and she said she knew hers would drop so she had built up a freezer stash while on leave to increase her supply and make up for the difference. Her daughter is around 13 months now, and she still gets breastmilk 3 or 4 times a day.

That being said - @Mrs. Pen: I hope your husband's new job works out. That sounds like a really great arrangement, as long as he's good with working from home/watching the baby. Wouldn't it be nice if childcare was more affordable and we didn't have to worry about these things?!

@raspberries: that's what I'm planning to do. I had oversupply the first month or two with my son and hopefully I'll have that happen again and can stockpile on maternity leave.
Yeah, cost is a factor but more than that I just like to be with my baby when they're so little and I'm not keen on putting a three month old in daycare. But I know it'll likely have to happen
Yeah DH is thrilled at the idea of a remote job and being with Bebe a couple days a week. He is a teacher (collegiate) and has been trying to secure a remote teaching job for years.

Speaking of weight gain, I still have no bump, girls! I thought I'd have one for Halloween and I don't think I will lol! I got flabbier but no real bump and very little weight gain. I can't complain about the weight, I'm definitely happy about that. I'm working out more frequently and eating better so I think I'm controlling it well for now.

@Mrs. Pen: I went back to work at 4 months, and nursed for 2 years. Granted I ate oatmeal every day, and for a long time I would pump at 1 am (once I dropped that, my supply tanked actually)

    It can be done!

@Mrs. Pen: I stocked up my freezer during those first couple months and it was a good thing too! Every time we'd give my son formula he'd projectile vomit, but since he did fine with my milk, I didn't worry about it. Turns out he has a milk allergy...

Thanks to that stash and going part time my first 2 months back at work, we didn't have any supply issues until work started getting crazy and I had less time for pumping breaks.

@raspberries: @Beth24: Good luck with your work negotiations! I worked with my boss to get the last month of my FMLA split into two months of part time by saying I'd be back a little earlier and they'd be more likely to keep me. But they also knew that was temporary and I'd be back full time at the end of it (they just don't do part time at my company and I needed the full time insurance benefits anyway).

Had our anatomy scan today... and once again, my hunch was incorrect. We are having a BOY!! While I'm a little disappointed to not have this be a girl, I'm looking forward to being a boy mom and I know my husband is relieved/ecstatic LOL
