March Mamas & Babies: 1/3 Done!

@NaturallyCathy: I think Mrs. Wagon had a post about when Wagon, Jr. started "crib vaulting." I'll see if I can find it to see what they did.

@Adira: Poor baby! I wonder what's going on with him. I hate when you know something is off, but aren't sure what it is or how to fix it. Babies need to come with manuals. Also, I think it's so cute how Xander sticks his arms straight out on his tummy! It looks like he's about to make snow angels on his tummy!

@Smurfette: Yeah, I hate pumping too. I'm usually pretty hard in the morning too so I always pump.after Xander eats because he never gets me empty after going all night.

@Adira: Yeah this morning, I expressed a ton in the shower. I was too lazy to pump cause everything was already packed up to bring to work. I guess I learned my lesson. She use to be able to empty me and sucked harder when nursing.

  4. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Probably because she went all night without nursing, she didn't have to empty you to get her fill this morning! That's how Xander is any way.

@Mrs. Blue: Seriously! I hope it is something like teething and he's going to feel better and be back to his happy self soon! We have his 4-month visit today, so I may ask the ped about it.

@NaturallyCathy: Okay, here's the link to the page of her posts that has the two crib vaulting posts. I haven't reread them, but maybe they will have an idea or two for you to try. They are at the bottom of the page.

@Mrs. Blue: How I wish mine were 2.5 years old and I could explain everything to him. But he's still just a munchkin at 17 months old

@NaturallyCathy: I know! Poor little guy.

(Very quiet cheer!) L has been napping for 1 hr 40 min.!!!! He woke up at 1 hour and cried for a couple of minutes. I took him out of his crib and put him in the swing where he passed back out. I know it is more ideal to sleep in his crib but with a long nap like this-- I'll take what I can get!

@silver1: I think I had vasospasms too. My nipples would turn white and ache. What helped me with pumping was switching to these shields:
    http://www.amazon.com/Pumpin-Pal-Super-Shields-Complete/dp/B0085CBA90

I use the largest size. MUCH better. I get lots of milk but it doesn't hurt and my nipples don't swell up and turn white. HTH

Um 2 1/2 hours and he's still sleeping. Officially freaked out!

@travellingbee: that is a nice long nap.

@Mrs. Blue: Your boys are just too adorable. It melts my heart every time I see a pic of them together.

@NaturallyCathy: That would be a bit scary to find him climbing out. Once you have the toddler bed I hope he stays in it.

@Adira: Hope the ped visit goes good.

Today I'm going to try and coach Isaac to complete the roll he almost did yesterday. I might be a bit crazy in actually wanting him to move.

@travellingbee: Oh honey. My momma has a saying and it's one I've kept with both my kids - if a baby needs sleep, they need sleep. Seriously. They've got a lot going on. They're growing all the time, learning all the time, perspectives changing, vision and hearing and everything growing stronger each day. Sleep is just a reboot. A time to process everything and recharge for the next big adventure. Every day is magical and wonderful to them because there is always something new.

    Fret not.

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@ALV91711: Not crazy, just enthusiastic. I used to taunt Em all the time "Well, just roll over already!" She'd always get to her side and then just stop. Or she'd turn her head like she was going to do a full roll and couldn't get that arm underneath. Totally normal

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: That's a LONG nap!! I'm lucky if Xander gets that much sleep in TOTAL during the day! He never does that much in one long stretch!!

@silver1: @travellingbee: I also had vasospasms and what some of the Bees here suggested was taking Magnesium, which I have been doing and it's definitely gotten better!

@ALV91711: I hear you on coaching them to complete the roll! Xander ALMOST rolled over back to front today at the pediatrician and I was silently cheering him on! But then he rolled back to his back. Womp womp.

So our pediatrician visit went well! I LOVE our pediatrician. She is soooooooo sweet and encouraging and basically just tells me I'm doing a great job, haha. Xander's dropped down to the 30% percentile, but she said a drop like this is normal once babies start doing that longer stretch of sleep at night, and it's especially common in breastfed babies. He now weights 14 lbs 2 oz, is 26 inches long, and has a head circumference of 43 cm.

He also has baby eczema (poor guy) which explains why he's constantly clawing at his face. Also a bit of a yeast infection going on in the diaper area, so she wrote a prescription for us. And he got his 4-month shots and did NOT like it! But after like 30 seconds of crying, he calmed down, so not too bad! And he fell asleep in the car, so it was a good visit overall!

@travellingbee: That sounds like a great nap! I am jealous! I think 2 hours is the longest we've gone

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: I keep showing R how to roll over both her and me.

@Adira: Glad that Xander is growing healthy. How do they get a yeast infection?

  20. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@Adira: Sounds like a good visit - that's great that you love your ped! That's too bad about the eczema and rash though! Hope it's better soon!

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think they can get them anywhere that moisture stays, so we weren't getting his diaper area dry enough I don't think and then it's in a diaper staying moist.

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Can you see the yeast? Or does it look like a rash? Any advice on the BF issues?

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: No, it just looks like a rash. And I actually forgot to ask about the BF issues, but he nursed just fine before we left so I forgot. And he just nursed now just fine. So maybe yesterday was a fluke.

R fell asleep after about 20 mins of talking, light crying, and fussiness in her crib. Fingers crossed she sleeps good.

@Adira: glad the visit went well. Hope the rash goes away soon.

@Smurfette: that sounds pretty good. Best of luck

My husband put A to bed tonight and recorded him crying since it sounded like he was calling for me. So sad

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

    @Smurfette: Good luck tonight!!

@aprk: Aww... that's just mean! Us Mamas don't want to hear our babies cry any more than we have to!

  28. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Adira: 26 inches is pretty long isn't it? Sorry about the yeast. We had thrush in the mouth early in. We had to paint his mouth every 4 hours.
@dojo: it's our longest by far!
@NaturallyCathy: thanks! DH said he must be learning something new

So by himself, L put himself on a 2-3-4 schedule today. Anyone heard of this before?

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: Yes, I think 26 inches is in the 90 percentile or something. He's a tall guy! Her tape measurer may also not have been straight, so it might not be super accurate.

Never heard of 2-3-4. What is it?

  30. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Adira: I think we're around 26 inches too. He's always been in the high 90's percentile for length. Our 4 mo appt isn't until we get back from our trip so we'll see then.
So it's a schedule that goes like 2 hours after waking, LO takes a nap. 3 hours after that, another nap, 4 hours after that is bedtime. Apparently lots of daycares use it. Lukas did that almost exactly today where he usually just does short naps after being awake for about 90 minutes. Today he got 4 hours of sleep in 2 chunks rather than 3 or 4 shorter ones! I could live with this!

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: Interesting! Sounds pretty cool. I don't think Xander could do it though. His naps are only 30 minutes. I'm curious if our daycare has a nap schedule for the older infants though. They have no schedule for babies like Xander.

  32. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@travellingbee: hmm. That schedule sounds interesting! do you could from waking time, or when they started sleeping?

  33. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

This is where I read about it. http://alphamom.com/parenting/baby/the-2-3-4-sleep-routine/

Don't know if L will keep doing it but that's what he did today. He often wakes at 30min and if I soothe him he'll go back down but today was the longest.

  34. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: Go, Baby R, sleep, sleep, sleep! Hope R's parents get some super good rest tonight.

We put the boys down with one arm ou of their swaddle tonight. It doesn't seem to be phasing them so far, so fingers crossed. Since daycare can't swaddle and the boys keep busting out of the SwaddleMes at home, I'm guessing we should probably start weaning them from it all together. Have you all swaddle weaned? Once they adjusted, did their sleep go back to normal?

  35. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@travellingbee: thanks for the link! I think A is sort of close to that schedule, but maybe still a little young. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it though.

@travellingbee: I have pumpin pals but unfortunately my nipple molds to shape of horn and its either too small or a lot of breast tissue gets sucked in.
Wow I have to check out 2-3-4. My LO does good on naps maybe this will help him sleep better at night.
@Adira: thanks I have to try magnesium. Those are the pills right? Glad to hear your appt went good and yay for a tall baby
@Mrs. Blue: love your babies so adorable with their smiles!! My lo does not like swaddling so no experience with weaning. He usually has his hands out by his ears. I guess as long as they don't flay their arms and wake themselves up it should be good?
So we are on weekend vacation at hotel (without lo) and Im a bit upset with DH. I wanted him to help me microwave heating pads but he was so sleepy and I had to walk all the way to main building to do it. Maybe I will be in better mood in am. I thought it would be good to spend a weekend by ourselves but Im missing lo badly sigh.

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@silver1: Yep, you can find magnesium with other vitamins and supplements! I think a lot of people get the combo calcium-magnesium supplement, but you can get it by itself too.

  38. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @aprk: Aww, that was mean!!

@travellingbee: I have never heard of that. Interesting.

@Mrs. Blue: When she was waking up so much I started taking her and out. We use a Halo Swaddle Sack, size S, now. We swaddle with her arms out but she still gets that tightness on her chest. I didn't like swaddling arms on cause she always breaks out and rolls on her side to sleep now.

@silver1: I hope your weekend away gets better!!

So it is 530 and R woke up for the 1st time!! I hear angels singing!!!! I went to bed at like 930 and slept great. Nursing her now and hoping she will go back to sleep for a little bit. She had great naps at DC yesterday too.

  39. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Woohoo!!!! Girl, you just got more sleep than I did!!! Sooooo happy for you!!! Let's just hope this continues!!!

So I REALLY hope that Hubs is feeling better from the cold he's had. We're supposed to go to Hubs' Dad's house today and while I don't really want to deal with the baby snatchers that is Hubs' family... his Dad lives on a lake!!! I've been dying to go because it's been soooooo hot here and I really want to go swimming!! Plus if it's too hot for Xander, it will be easy for someone to bring him inside or keep him in the shade. Sooo hoping Hubs feels better this morning!!

@Adira: I have a lot to catch up on! I hope DH feels better too. Going to the lake sounds fun!!
