March Mamas & Babies: 1/3 Done!

@Adira: How many times does he eat before that during the day? R nurses in the morning, 3 bottles at DC, then nurses 2 before bed. So 6 feedings a day.
Could you even push back the feeding to 630?

  2. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Xander gets 6 feedings, including the 9:00 one. One in the morning, three at daycare, and 2 in the evening. So maybe I won't be able to cut out one. 5 feedings probably isn't enough... although he's getting around 5oz a feeding, so you'd think 25oz is enough. Although he's not gaining a ton of weight (17%), so I probably shouldn't even be thinking about cutting out a feeding...

@Adira: Yeah R gets 4 oz bottles at DC and doesn't even finish those all the time.

  4. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Xander apparently gobbles down all 5oz of his bottles and acts like he's starving, haha. So I probably shouldn't cut out a feeding!

Alright, I have no idea what the hay is going on with the lil'dudes! In the last 4 days, they have been terrible eaters! They went from eating 3 1/2-5 1/2 ounces at nearly every feeding to us struggling to get to 3 ounces! They eat a couple ounces fine and then just conpletely lose interest, pull off the bottle, and fuss every time we try to put the bottle back in. They've also been having a harder time settling down at night and have added a MOTN feeding again. E is pretty congested, so that could be part of it, I suppose, but he's eating better than F who isn't congested.

Anyone's LO done this? Ideas for what might be going on?

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Honestly R started eating less right when her sleep tanked. But she was also sick, so I am not sure if that was it or not.

  7. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: hmmm...I wander if they could just be hitting the 4-mo. regression. I hadn't heard anything about it affecting eating, but if R's eating went downhill, too, then maybe that's what's going on.

  8. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I hope it isn't the regression for you! I am just praying we already had it and it wasn't because she was sick before.

@Mrs. Blue: I don't have any advice, but I hope you're able to figure it out or they go back to eating/sleeping well for you soon!!

R had a 45 min, 3 1/2 hour (even drank her bottle asleep) nap at DC today. Then slept 25 mins on the way home. She was so fussy and tired, we barely got an hour together today before I did bath and put her to bed. It has been 40 mins and she is still fussy in her crib. But I had to go in there twice, once, cause she spit up. Then the 2nd time cause she ROLLED over. I looked away for a second and I see her face down. I guess I should have waited till she fell asleep to move her, cause now she is just rolling side to side seeing all areas of her crib.

Of course the worse night of CIO is the 1st night DH is gone.

I am so sad I missed her rolling. I was already upset tonight cause I got to spend an hour with her today and she was fussy so I couldn't even enjoy it. I was crying nursing her cause DC gets to see her all day and I sit at work just missing her.

    Having to work sucks.

I think she finally just fell asleep side ways in the crib on her side. Cutie

@Smurfette: OMG she rolled over!!! Yay congrats on milestone Im sure she is going to do it again while you see her I understand the feeling at work I miss my lo so much
@Mrs. Blue: No idea but my lo has always been a terrible eater. During the day he basically snacks thru his feedings around 2-3oz each time the max he has gotten in is 4 oz. I try to cluster feed him in the evening every 2 hours around 6pm, 7:30, 9:30pm ish and sometimes it works to help him sleep for a few hours.
LO has a stomach virus he has been throwing up all day and I started him on Pedialyte per our pedi.. Otherwise he seems normal and active so hopefully it will go away soon.

@Smurfette: having to work totally sucks sorry you're having a rough night.

@Mrs. Blue: I noticed that Liam started eating a bit less recently - he will get distracted while nursing more often - but in his bottles he went from drinking 6 oz (seemed like too much to me) to 4-5 (which seemed like a better amount) so I am ok with the decrease...

I don't know what is up - teething? growth spurt? wonder week? sleep regression - but Liam had a really off weekend and his sleep which wasn't amazing to begin with has taken a real hit. He didn't nap well Friday at daycare and then his sleep has been a little like this since Fri. night: down to sleep around 7-7:30. Up at about 8:30 crying. Won't take a pacifier so I nurse him back to sleep. up at 11:00 crying. up at 3:00 crying. up at 5... he hardly napped until yesterday afternoon in my Mom's arms for 2 hours. And was fussy whenever he was not being held. Part of me enjoyed the extra snuggle time I spent with him over the weekend but today was pretty rough at work - so tired!

hi all! you guys move too fast for me, i haven't had a chance to get all caught up yet, but we finally had jaren's 4 month well check today. it was delayed about 2 weeks because i cancelled his original appointment since he had a cold at the time, and i didn't want to get him vaccinated.

his stats as of today (19 weeks 3 days) -
    weight - 19 lbs 7.5 oz (98th percentile)
    height - 27.4 inches (98th percentile)
    head - 17 inches (90th percentile)

he's huge! i was really annoyed today because i waited an hour to see the pediatrician, then waited another 15 minutes while they got the vaccines ready. i was in that office for an hour and a half for a 10 minute check up. grrr.

@Smurfette: oh no, not another rough night... that's so exciting that she rolled over though!

@dojo: seems like a bunch of us are having a tough time lately!! i'm chalking it up to everything that happens around the 4 month mark - it could quite possibly be all of the above that you listed!! hope tonight is better for you..

so i wanted to share with you all a blog i really enjoy reading - "mommy shorts" - it's real, honest, witty, and entertaining. one of her recent blog posts really struck me, and was a good reminder during this challenging time of sleep deprivation and general fussiness - http://www.mommyshorts.com/2013/07/the-secret-to-enjoying-parenthood.html

and i liked this statement she made, "I think the secret to enjoying parenthood is not about appreciating every moment. That would be setting your expectations way too high and dooming yourself to fail. I failed five times just yesterday. The secret to enjoying parenthood is recognizing when you are in a memorable moment and appreciating it. Big or small."

i'll be the first to admit that there are certain moments that i don't care to remember, and maybe it's for the best... it was what made me want to procreate for a 2nd time, lol!

R has been fussy for an hour now. She didnt seem hungry, just rolling all over the crib. She got on her tummy and doesnt seem to like it and doesn't know how to roll back to her back. I fed her and that seemed to calm her down some. She will get really quiet and then starts crying again. Rubbing her eyes so I know she is tired. Of course this is the first night DH is gone. Cursing him and his peaceful sleep he is getting right now;)

Hi Mamas! We are officially back from vacay as of late late Sunday night! Baby and mama have jet lag major!

Still just typing from my phone in bed while up at 3am.. A LOT has been going on with Miss K simultaneously : growth spurt, wonder weeks, teething, and jet lag. Not sure if a 4 month sleep regression is in here or not too with all the craziness going on. K was an excellent little world traveller though! She is also So much Fun these days! lots of developmental growing around here too! I will update more when I get a chance! Hope everyone is well! Can't believe we have 4 month olds now!

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, I'm so impressed she rolled!!! That probably actually kept her up too because she probably wanted to try it again! I hear you about not getting to spend enough time with our babies though. I feel like I only really have 30 minutes in the evening with Xander and then it's time to feed him and get him to bed. There's definitely not enough time in the day!

Sounds like you may have had a rough night. I wonder if part of why R was so fussy because she wanted to practice rolling - I hear that happens, though I haven't experienced it yet. What time did she end up falling asleep? Once she was out, did you a good stretch out of her?

@silver1: Awwww!!! Sorry to hear your LO is sick!!! That's the worst. I hope he feels better soon!

@Mrs. High Heels: Wow!!!! Big boy!!! Though I'm not surprised, seeing pictures of him! But man! What a bummer about the pediatrician's office! We were at ours for an hour, but MOST of it was actually spent with the doctor or a nurse, so it wasn't just waiting around like that! I HATE waiting!!!

@shopaholic: Welcome back!!!! We missed you! You need to post a pic of K soon - I'm forgetting what she looks like!

  20. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: she fell asleep about 225, woke up at 5, nursed, and went right back to sleep till 7. She did fall asleep on her belly, luckily her face wasn't face down but on her cheek.

We got to sleep in cause I have a doctors appointment at 9. I really hope she will sleep through it. Getting IUD checked and my annual pap. I would have thought labor was it but I guess not.

@shopaholic: welcome back! We have missed you. Can't wait to hear about the trip and see how much K has grown.

So... I may have mentioned Baby #2 to Hubs last night and it did NOT go over well, haha. I said "Do you still want to have kids close in age?" and he laughed and said "Maybe you should ask just the first part." So I said "Do you still want to have a second kid?" to which he replied "I don't know." Yikes. And we already have the EASIEST BABY ON EARTH! I'm hoping as Xander gets a little older, Hubs will be open to having another kid. I really want to stick with our original plan of having two children close in age...

Although, I guess none of it matters right now. I still haven't gotten my period and I'm still breastfeeding, so I probably couldn't get pregnant even if I wanted to (which I DON'T - not for a few more months AT LEAST). But I want Hubs to be on board WHEN I want to get pregnant again...

@Smurfette: Oh yikes! That's a rougher night than I was imagining! Sorry to hear about that! But at least you got to sleep in this morning, which hopefully made last night a little easier to bear!

@Adira: Yikes! I would be upset if DH only wanted one. We talked that as rough as R was in the beginning we want another. But we are a year, minimum, away from talking about it.

  25. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I'll keep my fingers crossed for you tonight!

Yeah, we talked about Baby #2 a couple weeks ago and Hubs didn't say anything about not wanting another. I would've thought with how easy Xander is, he'd be willing... ugh. I'm hoping he's not really against it, just doesn't want one RIGHT NOW, which is okay. My guess is what will really happen is I'll go off the mini pill at some point and we'll just NTNP and probably not TTC anytime soon. HOPEFULLY he'll be okay with that, haha.

@Smurfette: Yay for rolling, big girl! Now, if E will just decide its worth his time to start rolling, all the March 11 babies will be officially mobile (ish). I also get super sad about how little time I see the boys, and find myself almost resenting the day care teachers who get to see them all day!

  27. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Adira: That would be scary to me, too, but I think it's probably normal for parents (maybe especially dads) to be a little unsure about #2 for the first few month. I bet in another few months, he'll warm up to the idea. Fingers crossed for you!

We are almost positive we will someday want to try for a girl, but it will be when the boys are AT LEAST 2. I want no part of three under two. Dear Mirena, please be super effective! Kisses, Mrs. Blue

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Yeah, maybe it's still too soon to really talk about Baby #2. I just know that our ORIGINAL plan was to start NTNP when Xander was six months, which is really right around the corner if you think about it. So... I hope it doesn't take him TOO long to open back up to the idea!

What will you do it you end up having another boy instead?? My grandmother REALLY wanted a girl and she ended up having FIVE boys before she had a girl! Then she thought her luck had changed and has TWO MORE boys! I'm scared of turning into her, so even though I'd REALLY like a boy and a girl, I'm quitting after two, regardless of what they are, haha!

@Mrs. Blue: THIS exactly. Fussy eater then ravenous. Motn feedings when he's been sttn for a month. Clingy and fussy during the day. Wants attn and was fussy at a restaurant for the first time ever 2 nights ago. last night he was up at 2, 4,5,6...eating and peeing out of diapers- 2!

  30. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@travellingbee: I don't know what's going on, but at least we're in good company! I hope it ends soon!

@Adira: Oh, in that case, I can see why you're starting to get anxious about it! I'll send baby fever thoughts his way! I totally worry about having luck like your grandma;it's one of the reasons I'm not sure about having more biological kiddos! We have always talked about adopting, so I *think* that we might try for a girl and if we have another boy, we'll adopt next and just have four kids. If we have a girl, we might still adopt one more girl anyway. On the other hand, sometimes I just want to adopt a girl next and be done at 3 kids. The problem is our boys are just so cute and fun that it's tempting to have lots of babies, but that will probably bite me when I get another set of twins who are not nearly as easy going as F & E!

@Mrs. Blue: I hear you on the Mirena please be effective!

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Oh wow, you're going to have lots of kids!!! I think it's probably pretty UNLIKELY that you'd have twins again though (though now that we've both said it, you totally will). Though hopefully if you did, you'd have two girls! Then you'd be all set!! I think adopting would be so awesome! Would you try for an American baby or do something totally different?

  33. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Adira: I know the odds aren't likely, but the fact that it happens is a wee but scary. My OB tried to reassured by telling me that he's o Lu had three patients have multiple multiples. Ughhh...the fact that you be had three is NOT comforting to me! We would like to have a big family, but our big hang up is things like paying for college! I would be totally happy just adopting a girl, but DH really wants to try for a bio girl. We'll see what happens! I think we would consider international or domestic, depending on our situation at the time. I've always been kind of obsessed with Ethiopia, so that's a possibility. Also, my brother and his family live in China, so we would consider adopting from there as well since we would be better able to keep her ties in to her culture. Other than those two possibilities, we would probably adopt domestically.

@Smurfette: Every time I read about failed IUDs, I die a little inside.

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: OMG, I hope your OB is ANCIENT to have had three patients who have had multiple multiples!!!! That seems like a crazy big number for an OB!!! That makes it seem so much more likely than I thought!! hahaha, scary!

I don't know how long you're going to be a Hellobee blogger for, but I hope you're still around when/if you decide to have more babies! Whether you try for a bio-girl or adopt, I want to be able to follow your family, haha. Especially as F&E grow up!!!

  35. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Adira: Ahhh!! Thanks! I have no intention of stopping anytime soon...unless an angry mob demands it or something! My OB is only in his early 50s and even stopped practicing for a few years before starting up again! Now you see why I'm scared!

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Okay yes, that's scary! Multiple multiples sounds way more possible than I thought!!! I'll just keep my fingers crossed (if you do start TTC again) that you don't get twins again and if you DO, that they're girls!

@Mrs. Blue: Seriously! I had my 6 week checkup today, and she said it is right where it is supposed to be. I hope it stays that way and does it's job. It was great too, I had to pay $7, insurance paid for the rest. Score! I was paying $35 for 3 months of BC pills.

So I changed R's diaper right before we left for the doctor. She fell asleep right before my exam. Then slept the whole way to DC. I carried her in the car seat cause I had to carry in diapers as well. I got her out and her whole back was poop explosion. Poor thing, wasn't even bothered by it, well till they went to take her clothes off and clean her up. I used some wipes to clean the car seat. I guess I need to read on how to wash it now. I hope you can dry it cause otherwise I won't have time to let it dry before the morning.

Two days of first, rolling over and poop all over the seat. Look at what DH is missing!!

  38. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: LOL - with all these stories of how R isn't sleeping and is pooping over everything, your husband is going to just want to rush home!!

But seriously, that sucks. What a mess!! I'm always so scared of the poop explosions! Thankfully, the biggest one that Xander has done was at daycare, so they had to deal with it! I just had to deal with the mess of his sleeper, which went straight into the wash! And hopefully you can dry the car seat - I would think you'd be able to - people don't really have all day to wait around and let things like that air dry!

@Adira: I know! I texted him at almost 2 this morning and he wrote me back. Opps didn't think I would wake him up, I just wanted to vent for a second. She keeps having exploding diapers, guess the way she sits or something. Size 3 diapers are way too big for her, so that isn't our issue. I hate cause she has a cute outfit on in the morning and then I pick her up in something else.

  40. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Just stop dressing her so nicely. But seriously, I know what you mean. I'm always surprised if I pick up Xander in the same outfit he went to daycare in! He usually either drools/spits-up all over it or he has a blowout. Babies are gross.
