@Smurfette: not sure. At his 8 week appointment he was 11lbs 7oz. He's 16.5 weeks now ...

@Adira: an hour? Is that normal for a pump to take that long? Do you have it on high?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I have slow boobs. I actually don't have it on the highest suction because when I did, it would hurt my boobs, so I lowered it to the highest suction that's tolerable. It normally only takes 30 minutes to empty them, but that's when pumping every 3 hours. Going 7 hours made it take over an hour.

@ALV91711: thanks!! I will check with my pedi at next appt about solids. LO still wakes up one or twice during night and I can't wait for him (us) to sttn!!
@Adira: Your lo is so cute and he is a long baby!! When I go overnight between pumpings I just keep it highest setting and try to be done in 30 minutes even though it might hurt a bit. I have a prescription for nystatin and that helps with pain.

@travellingbee: I'm glad your DH took over for the night so that you could get some rest. I hope that tonight is better for you.
@aprk: I was just saying today how I couldn't imagine having to get up and go to work after being up so much in the night.
@silver1: I can't wait to STTN. I'd even be happy with one wake up. We did rice cereal again tonight and he liked it again, so that was good.
@Adira: Sounds like a great weekend. 5 months already, that is crazy! How long is Xander? He looks really long in that pic.
I took Isaac to the ocean for the first time today and put his feet in the water. He seemed to like it.
Today he had a 2 hour nap and a .5 hour nap. Now it is after 9, I'm hoping he goes to bed soon and sleeps better. The last few days I've been luck for him to sleep for an hour in the day.
I hope that we all get better sleeps tonight.

Oh yes, Isaac met his first baby friend today. She is exactly a month younger. They were so cute. Isaac loved her and leaned as close to her as he could and just babbled away. This makes me excited to join some baby groups when I get home, he'll have so much fun.

Ahh! So behind on this thread! Sounds like a lot of babies are going through a sleep regression or something of the sort?
I've done bath and bedtime by myself Fri. and Sat. night since it was DH's BFF's birthday and the guys celebrated both days and nights. argh. Last night K woke up 13 min. after putting her down for the night. I can't remember the last time (save for our traveling), that she's woken up. I tried to wait it out for a bit, but she started to wail. When I picked her up, she spit up. Nursed her again, put her back to sleep. She woke up again 15 min. later. Looked it up, sounds like the 4 month sleep regression. She woke up again a little while later, but I just watched from the monitor until she fell back asleep. Not sure if it was because DH wasn't there and her routine was off. If it's a sleep regression. Or she was just gassy? Hoping it's a one-time thing. We already have bad daytime sleep, I can't handle bad night time sleep too. She slept ~1 hr TOTAL throughout the whole day for naps for the past 4 days. Doc told us to aim for at least 2 hours total - as if I wouldn't want that myself. *sigh*
Here's hoping we all get more sleep this week!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: He was 26 inches at his 4 month appointment, so I'm guessing he might be even longer now!

Okay, time for me to catch up!
@travellingbee: Xander blows raspberries too! At least, I think that's what he's doing. He doesn't stick out his tongue, but he puts his lips together and blows and makes bubbles and certainly SOUNDS like raspberries.
@shopaholic: I haven't noticed that I smell different with More Milk Plus, but I have heard it does do that. The first ingredient in it is Fenugreek, so it would probably affect you the same, would be my guess.
As far as nap cues, it's similar to bed. I turn on his white noise machine and just pat his back a few times while I'm holding him, then half swaddle and in the crib. We don't darken his room, but we do have the blinds down, so it's a little dimmer. I also always put him down after he's been awake for 2 hours (unless he's cranky beforehand, then I put him down earlier) and he might cry for 5 minutes tops and then pass out. His naps last anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours though - he's totally random! Although I think his naps in his crib tend to last longer.
How'd last night go? Sounds like she had trouble getting into a deep sleep - was she finally able to sleep for a while without waking?
@Smurfette: Xander drools like a maniac, but he's actually better when he's on his back. He has definitely spit up in his crib before though, but it's not all the time.
@ALV91711: Oh my goodness, you gave Isaac solids!!!! What a milestone!!! I'm scared to start, haha. So glad to hear it went well!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
A went to bed at 9:15, was up to nurse at 11, 2:30 and 7. Way better!! He woke up at 1 and I gave him a paci and he went right back to sleep. And I think one other time between 2 and 7 but it was so quick I didn't look at the clock.
Woo hoo!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Not bad!!!! That stretch between 2:30 and 7:00 must've felt AMAZING!!! Hopefully this trend continues!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So either Xander was REALLY hungry this morning or my supply has totally tanked. Usually after nursing him, I can still pump 3-5oz, but this morning, I barely got 2oz! I think he ate more than normal though. Just hoping I can make up for it throughout the day...
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: That is a much better night! I hope you feel a bit more rested.
@Adira: He is long. Issac is only 25 inches at his four month appointment. I hope you are able to pump more today.
@shopaholic: Hopefully it was just one night of bad sleep.
We had a better night too. He went to sleep at 9:30, and he didn't nurse to sleep. Then up at 12:30, 2:45 and 6:15 to nurse. And awake just after 5, but I was able to just put him to sleep. Now when he is done nursing I hope he sleeps a while longer.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I am sorry!! Hopefully after this next weekend with him nursing all weekend and the supplements, things will pick up.
@ALV91711: Glad that you had a better night too!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Glad to hear you had a better night too!!! Now if only these babies could drop some more night wakings so you Mamas could get some sleep!!!
@Smurfette: Yeah, I keep waiting for this More Milk Plus to really kick in and start working! But I've only been taking it for less than a week so who knows. Plus probably taking a weekend and just pumping didn't help my supply. Bleh.

So. L went to bed at 715 last night (He's been pushing back his own bedtime) and he woke at 10, 1:00, 315 and 600. Sigh. At least it wasn't every hour. He also managed to get onto his tummy despite the towel under the sheet. Little stinker. And then he only took a 30 minute nap this am when he usually does 1 1/2 hr. Gr.
Two positives: I pumped 9 ounces this morning! Apparently all this night feeding is helping my supply.
Also, yesterday he sat unassisted for a full minute on a blanket in the grass. Twice! He was leaning over playing with the grass and was able to lean over, sit up and even "righted" himself when he started to get off balance! We have a sitter! At 4 months?! Never expected that. Now if he could just master the rolling from tummy move!
@Adira: Sorry to hear about your supply. I think the pumping all weekend definitely doesn't help but I'm sure it'll get back up to snuff soon.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I have heard that night feeding does wonders for your supply! Congrats on the 9 ounces!!! Can I have it?
OMG!!! Jealous he sat unassisted for a bit!!! Xander can sit unassisted for maybe 2 seconds before he's toppling over!!! I have no idea how to help him get better at it! Maybe just more assisted sitting??
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
Catching up....
@Adira: Glad you had a fun weekend! 5 Months! Woohoo! What a cute cute cutie! I also can't imagine pumping for an hour. 20 minutes tops here. Maybe you should look into renting a hospital grade pump? It might help your supply...?
@ALV91711: @aprk: Glad sleep was better for y'all!
@shopaholic: Yeah I am so mentally done with this regression. Naps, night, everything. Boo.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Yeah, I wonder if part of my problem is my pump. I never really thought about it before, but it probably isn't a great one. Maybe I should buy that Medela PISA on the HB Classifieds, haha.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I have an Avent Twin Electric Breastpump. I only have it because it was free (my SIL gave it to me) and it's worked fine for me so far, though it definitely takes FOREVER to pump, so maybe something else would work better?
What does everyone else have for a breastpump? And do you like it?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
I have the PISA which a friend gave me. I like it fine.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Wow! I am totally jealous of the sitter. I am so ready for that. Sorry you had another rough night.
@Adira: Did you ask her if it took her that long? I have a Medela that insurance send me. You can't buy it in the store. Basically it is the pump that they sell in kits but it is just the pump and parts. No bells and whistles.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, hmm, I never did ask her. I kind of just assumed I had slow boobs, but maybe it's the pump. I'm not sure my SIL will be able to give me much advice though - I don't think she breastfed/pumped for very long. I think she stopped around 3-4 months.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: I have the Avent single electric and it seems to work fine. But never having tried anything else, I don't know if something else could be more efficient.
@travellingbee: That is awesome that he sat unassisted. We aren't there yet, Isaac just instantly falls.

On our date Sat night we decided on the name of our un-conceived, 50% chance of having baby boy. DH did say that he kind of wants another girl. I said that I am good either way, which shocks me. I always said I wanted two girls. We didn't talk timing of #2.

R is sleeping a regular sleep sack tonight! I think then this weekend I am going to transition to nothing but her jammies.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I hope she sleeps good without a swaddle. It would be nice to just use jammies. I can't believe you are talking names already.
So the rice cereal I've been mixing with breast milk. The last two nights I just did a little bit to see if he liked it. Today I had two ounces and mixe up half, he gobbled it up and still wanted more. So I mixe up the rest and he ate almost all of it. I was surprised.
I also tried a bottle again today and he didn't scream at it. He even took a couple swallows and let it hang out in his mouth for a while. I was very happy with this progress.

Trying to catch up...
@ALV91711: That is exciting about rice cereal and so fun that he is liking it! I am both excited and nervous about starting solids. I think we are planning on getting started in about a month!
@Smurfette: Good luck with sleeping in just the sleep sack! That is fun that you are thinking of names for #2. I definitely starting thinking about having another not too long after Liam was born even though towards the end of my pregnancy I kept telling people I was one and done!
@travellingbee: That is so cool that he is sitting! I have been trying to practice the assisted sitting and he will sit back up after leaning forward but is pretty wobbly still.
@Adira: That sound like you had a fun weekend and that 5 month pic - so cute!!!
@aprk: Yay for improved sleep!
@Shopaholic: Hopefully her sleep will improve and it is just a one-time thing! It could be just because the routine was a little different.
For us the weekend was really busy! We had two of DH's brothers in town so lots of family time. All three of us are still kicking around this terrible cold that Liam brought home from daycare. I had to give in and call in sick today since I couldn't stop coughing this morning and decided to take L into the doctor since he's been some degree of sick for nearly 3 weeks. She ended up giving us some antibiotics to help treat it. He's so funny though because he started bawling when she went to clean out his ears then the next minute he was smiling at her with tears and snot all over his face. At least he's still in a good mood despite being sick - on the other hand I feel like a zombie.

Asleep at 7:15, up at 9:15, 2:30 and 6:30. Lets keep this up, buddy!!
@ALV91711: how'd you do last night?
@Smurfette: I think sleep sacks are so cute, but we missed the boat. A just goes straight to pjs.
@dojo: I hope you feel better ASAP!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Awww, that's so sweet that you guys talked about baby #2!!! You should TTC when I do! And awesome about the sleep sack! How'd it end up working for you?
@ALV91711: Wow, I still can't believe you're on solids! That's awesome that it's going so well!!! I'm soooooo nervous to start, I'm putting it off as long as possible, haha
@dojo: Isn't it crazy how babies can seem perfectly happy even when they're sick??? The three of us have all been sick a handful of times and Xander always seems the least affected by it! It's crazy!!! Glad to hear you got some antibiotics though so hopefully everyone starts feeling better soon!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Woohoo!! That's not bad at all!!!
OMG, my husband is totally pushing me to put more in Xander's bottles for daycare. He was like "It's just 3 more ounces." I said "Well you pump those 3 ounces and I'll add them to his bottles." Jerk.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: She did great. I really don't think she needs the sleep sack. So great that Issac is loving the rice cereal and some progress with a bottle. How was your sleep last night?
@dojo: We will think about names, but not actually having one. Mirena don't fail me!!
@aprk: Awesome. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya.
@Adira: Um, no! No more babies in the Smurf household for a while. She did great without the swaddle. I might try no sleep sack tonight, or I might be a chicken and wait till the weekend, in case she doesn't sleep as good. But I really don't think she needs it. She napped twice yesterday at DC without anything, just her sound machine. Granted they were only 30 mins naps. Luckily she slept 30 mins on the way home.
So I noticed on her sheet that she ate every 2 1/2 hours yesterday. The teacher said this morning she was hungry for them too. I wasn't sure if she was hungry or they did them early so she doesn't fight the bottle as much. I asked if I needed to send more, but she said to wait and see if it is just a growth spurt. She doesn't seem hungry when she finishes the bottle, just hungry sooner. Which like @Adira: she goes 3 hours at home on the weekend. Sunday she went 3 1/2 hours cause we were leaving Target, I lost track of time, and she wasn't crying so I waited till we got home to feed her.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Come on, you know you want another baby like right now! Just kidding! I still have to convince Hubs to have another one, haha.
That's awesome the sleep sack worked! I bet she'll do okay without anything now. And I know what you mean about naps at daycare. Now-a-days, Xander only takes two naps at daycare, so I always have to put him down for a nap as soon as we get home (if he doesn't fall asleep in the car). Which SUCKS because then I get no time with him.
You should ask the teacher what makes her think R is actually hungry (I keep forgetting to ask mine this, but they still have yet to feed him any more than normal, despite telling me he gets hungry early). Maybe they are confusing his cues. It's also possible that R is just getting fussy because she wants attention - not necessarily a bottle. I think that's probably the case with Xander, though I'm not there to confirm it. How was R when you got home? Did she seem hungry 2.5 hours after her last daycare bottle? Or maybe you weren't able to check because of your bedtime routine...
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Oh! Sooooooo... I think we're definitely teething here! It's hard to really tell because Xander's not really acting any different, besides wanting to eat everything in sight, haha. BUT I was trying to peer into his mouth yesterday and his bottom teeth are definitely becoming noticeable under his gums! I'm curious though if they'll start bothering him soon before they come through.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She said that it was a hungry cry. Most times they give her the bottle and she finishes half and then like 20 mins later she finishes the rest. She said yesterday she finished them all super fast. Maybe it is a growth spurt. I am going to wait and see how it is goes this week. I honestly don't care if she eats every 2 1/2 hours, as long as she is eating. She ate last at 345 and then I nursed at 630, so she went almost 3 hours when we got home.
She fell asleep in the car yesterday and I totally drove around for another 10 mins so she would get a little more sleep. Then we played for like 20 mins, did bath, then hung out for 15 mins and then it was bedtime. No time yesterday, but at least the time we did she was happy and smiling.
