Is everyone still losing hair by the buckets or is that just me????
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Hmm... maybe it is a growth spurt. I think I like your daycare better than mine though because it sounds like they try to cater to R's needs. Mine just tells me that Xander is getting hungry early and then doesn't actually feed him, lol. So I have no idea what's going on!
And yes! My hair feels like it's falling out in clumps! It's the worst when I shower - the pile after is sooooooo large and gross! And I'm always finding stray hairs everywhere! I'm so sick of it!!!

@Adira: They really are trying everything they can to make sure she is happy, what works and what doesn't. They know she loves the exasaucer cause she can see everyone and can stand up. It is the best of the both worlds for her. I am super happy with them. I do get better detail about the yesterday from the teacher in the morning. R gave her a big smile when we got there today, so I think she likes it. I laid her on the mat today and she was all smiles on her belly looking at the other two kids there already.
I pull out so much hair when I squeeze the water out in the shower. Then the amount in my hair brush, on the rug, what comes outs when running my fingers through it when blow drying. I never thought that it would be this much.
@aprk: I wish I had a face shape to have short hair!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, it sounds like your daycare does a really nice job!!! I suspect that part of the problem with my daycare is the fact that Xander's fairly so easy-going, so I think they spend less time with him. But he seems happy there and LOVES the lady that watches him, so I guess I can't really complain. And despite them telling me he's hungry, they're still just giving him 15 oz a day, which is helpful to me, since I can't pump any more!
Oh my gosh, the amount of hair I lose when in the shower or just combing it is RIDICULOUS!!!! I'm constantly amazed I still have any left!!! And it's been falling out for MONTHS now! I can't wait for it to stop!

So I think I totally just ordered a new breast pump through insurance! Although I still need my doctor to fax over a prescription so... it's not a done deal yet. I'm excited though!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Technically it'll cost me $59 because I wanted the fancy Medela Pump In Style Advanced, haha. But I figure that's totally worth it. My other option was some base Ameda version that didn't come with anything.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Oh yeah, for that price I would have ordered the Medela one too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Bleh, I told my mom about how daycare wants us to send more milk (or heavily implied that) and that Seth thinks he needs more milk because he's in a low percentile, and she was just like "Send more milk - he's a growing boy!" Grrrr... I was kind of hoping for more support from her. Blegh!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I just hope that my doctor's office doesn't dilly-dally about it. The supplier said they could have it sent out today if they get the prescription this morning!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I would call back this afternoon and check on it.
Sorry your Mom wasn't more supportive. I meant to ask you did day care say anything about how he did with the different nipples yesterday?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, good idea. I'll have to keep hounding them to make sure it happens, haha.
Daycare didn't say anything, so I have nooooooo idea how he did. I guess I should've asked, but when I got there and Xander was just STARING at the daycare lady and had ZERO interest in me, I kind of forgot about everything else. Oh well. But he must've at least been fine with the new nipples because I would've thought they would have mentioned if he had issues with them. But he also drank all 5oz from each bottle too, so I'm guessing he's still guzzling them pretty quickly. Oh well - whatevs. At least it's not affecting our breastfeeding relationship.
I'm also kind of bummed because I've been using More Milk Plus religiously now for almost a week (it'll be a week today actually) and although my supply seems back to normal, it has increased AT ALL. I'm really disappointed.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Don't you hate it when they don't give you a huge smile when you pick them up? R does that all the time, she is so tired she just looks at me. Yesterday though I got a huge smile and it totally made my day.
Just cause he finished them doesn't mean he guzzled them all. R takes her time but she finished all 4 bottles yesterday.
Sorry the MMP isn't helping. What about getting Fenugreek? Fingers crossed the new pump helps some.

@Smurfette: Yes losing tons and tons of hair. It is disgusting. I'm lucky that my hair is blond so you can't see it everywhere but it is still nasty. I find it stuck to L all the time.
I can't take these crazy sleepless nights anymore. I feel sick from lack of sleep. He is still getting onto his stomach and this wakes him constantly. Don't know what to do. I'm thinking of hiring a sleep coach. I don't think I am OK with CIO and I am not sure of other options. Specifically for this tummy sleeping issue.
Maybe I'll post it as a question on the sleep board...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I am sorry! I know how much it sucks. You go back to work soon too right? We talked about hiring a sleep coach. It is just the rolling over that is causing the issue? Or he is waking up other times? Did you try putting him between two rolled up blankets so he is stuck? Or using beach towels so they are bigger?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: we did the towel thing. We might try bigger ones. He managed to still get onto tummy with them there. I worry with bigger ones about suffocation. Right now he is napping on his tummy ok, but he is face down in the mattress. THat freaks me out! I can see on the monitor that he is breathing so I guess it is ok. I tried to turn his head and he woke up pissed.
Right now that seems to be the main cause of waking. Although the other night he woke a bunch to have paci replaced. I don't get it. He used to sleep perfectly from 9-6. Why all the waking now, when he doesnt even want to eat?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Sounds like it is a combo of 4 month sleep regression and the tummy issue. It is freaking when they sleep face down in the mattress. I have moved R's before and she moves it back but luckily she doesn't do that too much.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: That's true - it's possible it took him longer to drink all of his bottles. I'm not really sure. Oh well.
Well, the first ingredient in MMP is fenugreek... but do you think taking that on it's own might work? Or maybe taking MMP AND fenugreek? So frustrating.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I take both. I think it helps but who knows really. I wonder if your body gets immune to them if you take every day.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: OMG, I hope not! hahaha, that would be horrible. Although maybe if it increases your supply and then you become immune and your supply stays up, that'd be okay!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: That is good she slept well without the sack. We only use one for warmth because of the a/c. If we have been somewhere that it is warmer in the house he just sleeps in pj's or a gown. He doesn't really seem to care what he is in.
@Adira: I know, I still can't believe we started. Earlier than planned, but he is obviously hungry. Even yesterday when we were hanging out in the kitchen and I was having lunch he was looking at me and opening up his mouth. That was a great response to an extra 3 oz.
@aprk: @Smurfette: He went to bed at 9:15, was up 3 times to nurse and two other times. One time he had a burp, the other time I picked him up and he went right back to sleep. He got up at 8:10.
@aprk: Sounds like you had a much better night, I hope he keeps it up.
@dojo: I hope you are all feeling better soon, being sick is no fun.
@Adira: Sorry you didn't get support from your mom. That is awesome that you are able to get another pump for so cheep, hopefully it will work better.
@travellingbee: Lack of sleep is hard. My BFF's SIL hired a sleep coach for their LO and it worked great for them. It may be worth looking into.
Yesterday Isaac napped so great. He had a two hour morning nap and two one hour afternoon naps. He then went to sleep last night so much easier. I just wish he would sleep longer at night. Everyone said once he started cereal he would sleep longer, but that hasn't happened. And he is still nursing just as much.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Have you ever pumped to know your supply is enough? Maybe he isn't getting enough in one feeding so he needs to eat more often. At night does he fall asleep when nursing? Trying to think of everything it could be so you can get some sleep! I know you are just exhausted.
Glad that you got some good naps though. I would get so mad when R would fall back asleep when I picked her up.

ack, i'm so behind on this thread so i'll just start babbling!
J has been really great with sleep the last couple weeks, and has been so consistent that i can now say he's officially sttn! i usually do his last nursing session around 7-7:30, and he's down by 8... and he sleeps until 6 or 7 am.
month 5 has been so much fun! he's sitting up with assistance, rolling over one way, laughing/smiling all the time, and more and more aware of his surroundings. his naps are consolidated so we can always count on two 2-hour naps from him, and a shorter power nap that gets him to bedtime. he still hasn't found his feet yet, which is something i'm looking forward to because i love seeing babies play with their feet!

@Mrs. High Heels: His nap and sleeping pattern sounds amazing! So envious!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: sounds like j is doing great. I am jealous of thr consistent sleep. R is sleeping so much better but still all over the place. I tried to see if R would sit up with me behind her last night. She took her longer to fall then I thought it would.
I have to share this picture from this morning. I set her on the couch after nursing to fix myself and she rolled onto her side like this, just lounging. She makes me so happy!

Eek! So behind on this thread - IDK where to even start!
@Mrs. High Heels: Yay for STTN! I agree, things are starting to be really fun!
Our Sat. night seemed to be a one-off. She has been waking up earlier for a MOTN feeding the last couple of nights, but I truly think it's because she is more distracted during the day and not eating enough. And also I might not be making as much milk as she needs. I tried pumping after feeding her (on the opposite breast) last night and got barely an ounce. And it had been ~ 4 hours since she had nursed from that side. Trying oatmeal for breakfast this morning and hoping that helps.
Last night was a night of firsts! I went out for a late dinner and drinks with some GF's because my single BFF is going abroad for work for several months. I was so nervous since DH has never given K the bath by himself. Usually just watches and towels her off. Also, since K hasn't taken a bottle from him in months. I had to use a freezer stash of milk for the first time. I was prepared to rush home if anything went wrong, but DH texted me she was bathed, fed, and asleep in his arms! She fell asleep though before even finishing 2 oz. It was a little sad that she didn't need me to fall asleep, but I'm glad it worked out and I have this option now! Oh! And last Friday's stats: 25" L and 13.5 lbs!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Smurfette: AWW she's sooo adorable - i love the way one foot is on top of the other haha! it could also be that my J is a few weeks ahead since he's technically a feb baby. so much can change in just a couple weeks!
@shopaholic: go DH! now you can go out more often and leave her with him knowing he'll do just fine. i was nervous the first time i left DH to do a bedtime routine too. love it when they surprise us in a good way!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: How much does J get during the day that he's able to sleep that long? Or how many feeds at least if some of them are nursing?
Xander will play with his feet, but as soon as I whip out the camera, he lets go of them to stare at me! Damn it! I want pictures of that too!!!
@Smurfette: Gahhhh!!! She's so cute!!!! I love it!!!
@shopaholic: Congrats on having a girl's night out! Did you have fun?? That's awesome that your husband was able to handle K with no issues!!! Though I agree - it's sad when our babies don't really need US.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: he eats every 2.5 - 3 hours, so on an ideal day it looks like this -
7:30 am - eat
10:30 am - eat
1:30 pm - eat
4:30 pm - eat
7:30 pm - eat
(sometimes he'll wake up at 5 am to eat, then i'll put him back to sleep and wake him again at 7 to eat)
so he eats about 5-6x a day. no idea how much he drinks from the boob, but when he gets a bottle he drinks 5 ounces.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Ooooh, I like your schedule! It makes me wonder if maybe Xander can go overnight without his 9:00 p.m. feed. Currently he eats 5 times a day PLUS the 9:00 p.m. one that I wake him up for. I'm curious if maybe he could get away with just the 5 feeds and sleep 7:30 to 5:00 without it. Curious! And Xander also gets 5 oz in the bottle (although according to everyone I know, it's not enough, the jerks).
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: next time someone says something about that, just show them this link! http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/
do you wake him up because it's his dreamfeed? test to see what happens if you skip it one night... he might be able to do without! 5-6 months was when noelle started sttn too, so i know it's possible.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Oooh, what I should do is give the extra ounce in his bottles at daycare and then skip the 9:00 p.m. feeding and pump instead! I could totally do that!!! Then maybe people would get off my back, haha.
And YES! I've told EVERYONE that 30 oz in a day (assuming that's what he's getting) in on the HIGH end for what a baby consumes, and that him getting older doesn't mean he needs MORE milk because my breastmilk is just changes to accommodate him! But no one listens to me. Blerg!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: sounds like a great plan - let me know how it goes! and you won't have to do that for long (adding those extra ounces) either because once X and J start solids their milk intake will decrease! i don't think breastfed babies should ever get more than 5.5 ounces. maybe 6 ounces max.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Well that's what I was trying to tell Hubs too! I said if we gave him too much in his bottle, then it would stretch out his stomach and he's never feel full and he'd become a fatty like me, haha. I said if anything, we should just give more smaller bottles. But I don't really trust daycare to give him the bottles, so I'd like to stick with the 5oz bottles if possible.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I think sounds like a good plan!! I think you should try and drop the 9 feed and see what happens. R can go 10-12 hours without eating at night
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Okay, maybe I'll try it this weekend... I keep saying that I'm going to try it, but then I keep chickening out, haha
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I don't pump regularly but when I have I usually get 4-5 ounces. I'm going to start pumping regularly so I have milk to mix with his cereal. Some nights he falls asleep nursing, but some nights he doesn't. Last night I don't think he had as much milk in the evening since I tried giving a bottle which he didn't drink and then he didn't really nurse at that time either.
