@Adira: good point - i never try anything new on weekdays either haha! and i agree with smurfette about listening to your gut!! i have a problem with over researching

@Mrs. High Heels: It's totally possible the research is influencing my gut feelings though, haha. That's why I'm going to do a weighted feed to get a better idea of how much he eats at that time!

We had another bad of naps, but at least she took them in her crib at school. 25, 15, and 35 min luckily she slept 30mins on the way home. She was in a good mood at least. She was so cute during bath, just kept cooking, like she wanted to swim.

But the best part of the day, I heard a little laugh!!!

K's napped in the swing every day this week!!! I'm calling that a win, since she has always been pretty resistant to the swing anyway. Now I'm just worried how I'll ever get a nap in her crib when she outgrows this thing! But yay for naps AT HOME 3 days in a row! Of course, we're still working on getting more than 20 min. naps. But I'm happy we've had at least a 30 min. nap each day this week!

Have a ton of stuff going on so I can't seem to keep up with this thread.

Had to throw away 5.5. oz of milk today because 1) DH didn't finish using one previously frozen bag, and 2) I forgot about a bottle I meant to put in a freezer bag and left it on the counter ALL DAY. Wah! Told DH and he's like - "it's OK. It's not like she drinks it anyway." WTF?! I think he thinks BM is an endless supply, whereas I worry someday we won't be able to BF and I want to make sure K gets BM for the first year as much as possible. MEN. Mine sure doesn't "get it" when it comes to BM.

@Smurfette: Sorry the naps aren't great, though it sounds like it's not adversely affecting her!!! YAY for laughs!! Was this the first time??

@shopaholic: Yay for naps!!!! Congrats on finally getting her to like the swing AND nap in it!

UGH about the BM!!! My husband is THE SAME WAY. It's like he thinks it magically just appears and that it takes ZERO effort on my part. Which is why he keeps pressuring me to put more in Xander's bottles for daycare and I'm just like "And where are we going to get those extra ounces...?" Men have no clue!

OMG, I just went to take a picture of Xander sleeping and discovered that my 50mm prime lens is broken!!!! It looks like it got dropped. I'm so bummed.

@shopaholic: That is great she is napping this week!

@Adira: I would be so mad!! I hope you can get it fixed.

I was 1oz short for tomorrow's bottles. I don't think she is going to need all 4 cause we have to go to the doctor. So I can nurse around 8 before we need to go. But I wanted to send 4. I do agree men have no idea how it works.

@Smurfette: Laughs are the best! Isaac always laughs when I am getting him undressed.

@shopaholic: That is awesome that she napped in the swing! I would worry about napping in the crib when the time comes closer and just enjoy her napping there for now.

Isaac was doing great at napping the last few days and today it went back to only an hour worth of naps. Good thing I didn't feel quite as tired today and could handle no naps.

I'm hoping he filled up enough before bed to have a long stretch of sleep.

@ALV91711: Eek hope he sleeps thru!! J got just an hour worth of nap today and he cried to sleep tonite He was inconsolable we tried holding him, rocking him, nothing worked. He is usually a happy baby and the crying was about 10 minutes but felt like it lasted forever. He is having a cough and I am hoping it improves tonite otherwise I have to take him to doc tomorrow.
@Adira: Oh no sorry I have no clue on cameras hope its not too expensive to fix.
@shopaholic: Yay for naps!! and on the BM thing with our DHs they can be so clueless I think its one of the things don't want to understand!!

  11. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@silver1: I hate when they are just so tired and cry. I hope the cough clears up.

So just as I was ready to fall asleep Isaac wakes up crying a sad cry. 10pm. Ended up having to nurse him to calm him down and get him back to sleep.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: @silver1: I didn't even think about having it fixed! I was just going to buy a new one, haha. It looks pretty damaged though. The lens is cracked and the part to adjust focus is crushed into the rest of it. And I think more is wrong because it was a struggle to disconnect it from my camera. I have no idea where I would even bring it to get it fixed! But I think it was just a $100 so I can buy a new one.

ETA: Not that $100 is a small amount of money, but for a lens, it's pretty cheap.

Dang. Sleep was crummy last night. We are driving 8+ hours today and I am so nervous about how A will do in the car. He's usually pretty good around town, unless he's hungry. I just feel so bad having him cooped up for so long!

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Bummer about being short! What did you end up doing? I'd probably just send the last bottle with less - you can always nurse her after you pick her up.

@ALV91711: How'd the night go after that 10p.m. wake up?

@aprk: Awww, sorry to hear sleep was no good last night! Hopefully your trip will be okay today. Good luck!!

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: I hope sleep wasn't awful last night!
@silver1: you are right the crying makes time stand still
@Adira: well for $100, I would just buy a new one. Probably would be that much to fix.
I took some out of the freezer before I realized I only needed an oz. I thought I needed more. So now I have some I pumped yesterday in the fridge for tomorrow. Today she should only eat 3 bottles since she isn't there for her morning bottle. I am nursing now before the doctor. The morning is usually my good pumping output so we will see how it goes.

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@aprk: good luck!! I bet he does great. But I know what you mean, I hate riding in the car for 8 hours.

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, it probably would cost the same to fix it! I tried to do a google search and I can't find anywhere local that fixes them anyway. Oh well. I'm kind of tempted to splurge on the 50mm f/1.4 though! But that's $300 more so... I probably shouldn't, haha.

It's always nice to have a little extra in the fridge, just in case you're short one day! I started off with 5oz extra in the fridge on Monday and now it's down to 1oz! But luckily I have Friday off, so that and everything from today is getting frozen!

OMG, it was so cute! My husband was trying to teach Xander word associations, so he had Xander lying on his back and Hubs was holding his hands up, and he'd go "UP!" and Xander would actually pull on Hubs hands to lift himself into almost sitting up! And then Hubs would go "Down!" and Xander would relax and let himself lower back to his back!!! Of course then when Hubs was trying to show me, Xander only did the "UP!" part and then got totally distracted by me being there (he was hungry), so I didn't get to witness the down part, but Hubs said he did it a bunch! So proud of my little guy!

Now if we could just get him to stand and/or roll!

So.....! Quick pop in from our trip to say that we are bad, well rested parents who let their baby sleep all night in the swing last night (we brought it to hotel). He STTN I know it isn't a fix but I sure feel better with a bit of sleep!!!!

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: Hey now, you gotta do what you gotta do! Sleep is important! That's awesome he slept through the night in the swing! Keep doing whatever works!!!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: That is too cute!!! And I forgot to answer you earlier, yes, that was the first laugh I heard.

@travellingbee: Do what works!! Glad that everyone got some sleep.

R weighs 13.1oz, so she gained 9ozs in 3 weeks. The doctor said that she wished it was a little higher, but said that she isn't going to worry about it. She said R has some chunk on her, and looks perfectly healthy. R has another little ear infection, said just a little puss, gave me a prescription but said to just fill it if she starts getting a fever or really fussy. She thinks it will just go away on its own.

I did ask her about naps and said at this age she should be getting 11-12 hours at night, so we are good there. But they should get 3 hours of naps a day. But she said that she knows at school it is hard for most babies. They have 30 min sleep cycles at this point, she said R is waking up and hearing everything and then just won't go back to sleep. Totally nailed our nosey little bird. Said at home to try and let her fuss in her crib and see if she will go back to sleep some more.

I will saw as soon as I walked into her class room the teachers were all like well and we excited she gained weight. I put the car seat down, R just woke up, and one teacher rushed right over to get her out, before I could. Makes me feel so good about having her there. I can tell that they really do care about her and how she is doing.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

    @Smurfette: Yay for first laughs!!!

That weight gain actually sounds pretty decent to me! I don't think Xander's gaining any more than that (if he's even gaining that much, haha). Bummer about the ear infection though - I'm starting to wonder if Xander might have one - he keeps grabbing at his ear... hopefully R's clears up on it's own!

OMG, that 30 minute sleep cycle makes so much sense!!! That totally explains why Xander's naps are often around 30 minutes. AND why he sleeps so much better when they put him in his crib because it's in a separate room and they have white noise, so he can't hear all the other babies and stuff and tends to sleep longer! Hopefully you can get R to take longer naps at home.

That's so sweet that the daycare teachers are all over R and really care about her! That's how the main daycare teacher is with Xander, and I'm glad that they really like each other, but I'm also jealous, haha.

@Adira: I was kind of annoyed at the same time, cause I wanted to pick her up and get one last hug. Then by the time I put up the bottles, her bag away, gave her teacher leaving her gift, they had R is strapped in a bouncy seat. So I just got to give her a kiss on the head. But she did give me a big smile.

The pediatrician said that in a couple months we should start seeing her nap for longer periods. Fingers crossed!

@aprk: Hope the drive goes great. When we did a long drive one of us sat in the back with him so that he wasn't alone for such a long time.

@Adira: @Smurfette: Sleep wasn't the best. Woke up at 12, 3 and 6:30 to nurse. I thought he was waking up again to nurse at 8:20, I put him on my legs to get ready and he fell right back asleep and is still asleep half an hour later.

I'm wondering if his bed is just too hard for him. He sleeps in a pack and play. I'm not sure what I could do to make it comfier though.

  25. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@travellingbee: That is great that you got a full nights sleep. It didn't make you a bad parent for using the swing. You'll be better because you are well rested.

@Smurfette: I'm glad she is gaining weight. I wish we got that amount of sleep around here. It must feel better dropping her off at school knowing how much they all love her.

The boys had their 4-mo appt yesterday (it was a couple weeks late).
    Elliot - Weight: 14 lbs. 8 ounces (16th %-ile), height: 25 inches (20 %-tile); head 18th %-ile.

    Finn - Weight: 12 lbs. 14 ounces (1st %-ile); height: 24 1/2 inches (7th %-ile); head - 8th percentile.

Both are still kind of peanuts, but their both a little higher than their growth curve, so we're making progress!

The baby dudes are not feeling at all good after their shots yesterday. Both running 100+ temps even after Tylenol and E threw up his whole bottle last night, slept for two hours, and then would sleep anywhere except in my arms while I walked around; poor little guy is recovering from a cold, dealing with shots, and definitely having some teething pain though nothing is poking through yet. Poor little guy. Finn isn't feeling good either, but at least he was able to fall asleep in the swing last night. This momma is heavy on the coffee today!

In other news, E is seriously discovering his voice and screeching allllll the time. We call him Baby Pterodactyl. It's funny because he sounds like he's in pain, but when you look at him, he's totally happy just screeching away.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: haha, yeah, I could definitely see being annoyed too! I'm so thankful I don't handle drop-offs!

@ALV91711: Okay, I might have some advice on the pack n' play! Maybe. So Xander doesn't usually sleep in it, but the few times he has, he was waking up multiple times a night! So when he stayed at my FIL's this weekend, we ended up putting a couple of blankets over the "mattress" that got tucked in with the sheet, to give it a little extra cushion, and apparently he slept just fine like that! They also make padded sheets for the Pack n' Play, so you could see if you could find some of those to try too.

@Smurfette: Whoa, I guess I need to be putting the boys to bed earlier. With our early mornings to get ready for work, I don't think they are getting 11-12 hours.

What time does everyone put their LOs to bed?

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: that is a little better sleep, right? The last time you were home did he sleep better? Someone on the boards said their LO slept better when they got a softer mattress so they used the toddler side of the crib mattress. Could you buy a mattress for the PnP?

  30. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Glad they are gaining weight! So cute about the screeching. Some times I think R is crying/fussy but she is just talking to herself.
R moved her bedtime up to 7. We nurse at 630/640, burb, and then she is in the crib. And usually is asleep within 10 mins. Lately she has been sleeping till around 5, nurses, goes back to sleep till 630-700. Most morning I wake her up to get dressed since we out the door by 650. Today she slept till 7 since we were home to go to the doctor.

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Xander's usually in bed by 7:30 p.m. and Hubs gets him up for the day at 7:00 a.m. BUT he also wakes up at 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. to nurse.

And that's awesome about the weight gain! And OMG, the screeching!!! Xander started doing it a few days after his 4-month appointment and it was soooooo loud and high-pitched!!! I think he's gotten over it though because he doesn't do it as much anymore!

  32. sheskrafty

    persimmon / 1165 posts

@mrsblue: K is usually asleep by 8. If we try to put her to bed earlier she usually wakes up around 8 anyways. She barely gets 11 hours of sleep.

We took K on an overnight train to Savannah, GA last weekend and she did awesome!! We had a roomette on the train so she slept either in her car seat or in bed with me but she actually slept way better on the train than at the hotel.

  33. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: I think I will try the blankets under the sheet to night. Can't hurt.

@Smurfette: A bit better sleep. He didn't get up until 9 today, so he was in bed for 12 hours. And he hasn't nursed yet, almost 3 hours, it is nice to wake up to a baby not in a rush to eat. I've looked online at the mattress and they seem kind of expensive, if the blankets don't work then I might just cave and buy one.

@Mrs. Blue: That is good that they are growing. Hope they are both feeling better today. It is so cute when they find there voice. Isaac did a few days ago and spent most of a couple of days just screeching.

I'm jealous you have newborn photos. I wish I had done that. I just thought I'd take plenty of pictures myself because I have a dSLR, but I didn't.
