@dojo: Glad the appointment went well!!! And I feel like maybe I should try bananas since I like them so much - maybe Xander would too. Good luck with the sweet potato! And that's an AWESOME stretch of sleep!!! Almost all night!!!
@Smurfette: So jealous of how into solids R is!!! Last night we decided to not even attempt to give Xander food and I just sat him in my lap while we had dinner. I didn't even put him in his high chair because I figured I would get him used to just sitting with us first and then I'll put him in his high chair. Just being with us seemed to go okay. I think being sick is making him more fussy than normal though, poor little guy. I hope he kicks this cold soon.

@Adira: She is turning into a porker!! I hope Xander feels better soon. Does he hate when you suck out his nose as much as R does. She has a runny nose (maybe a teething sign) and cough and gets so much when I use the Nose Frida or even just wipe her nose.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I haven't tried to use the nose frieda since Xander was just a tiny baby, but I ASSUME he would HATE it. He hates when I try to just wipe his nose, haha. He can still breathe through his nose though, so I haven't bothered trying to clear it out. He's just nasaly. And he has a horrible cough, poor guy.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: R has woken up the last three night with dried snot all around her nose. Yuck! Luckily she will cough in the middle of the night and go back to sleep. I hate hearing it though.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, that's nice she can go back to sleep! Xander woke up at 4:00 and probably coughed for 20 minutes straight! And then it probably took him another 20 minutes to fall back asleep. And when you go in to make sure he's okay, he just whimpers at you and tries to cry, but his voice is so hoarse. It's so sad!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I am surprised she goes back to sleep. Last time she had a cough it would wake her up. This one doesn't seem as bad, luckily. I know the hoarse kills me. Not like in the middle of the night they can just drink some water to help it
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, seriously!! If only I could give him a little water!! Nursing seems to help it for a little bit, but I don't do that in the MOTN. Oh well - hopefully both our little ones feel better soon!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Technically I guess we can give them water. You don't ever nurse in the MOTN?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: it's for gently reducing nighttime feedings. We were having 4 or 5 feedings a night - crazy town!! Babies this age "need" only 1 or 2
@Adira: @Smurfette: FWIW we have given A a teeny bit of water in a straw. He loves it! I've heard that once they start solids (we tried sweet potato and he went nuts for it!) a bit of water will help the digestion.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: No, not since he started sleeping 10-5. I mean, I WOULD if I thought he was hungry, but so far every time he's woken in the MOTN, giving him his pacifier and blanket has been enough to get him to fall back asleep!
@Smurfette: @aprk: I tried giving him water in a sippy when I attempted solids, but he didn't seem to know what to do with the sippy. I'll try again with the zoli cup once it arrives!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: I hold the straw in my hand - I'm not sure he would know how to suck from it yet. Let us know how it goes!

@Adira: I give Isaac a bit of water in a sippy cup with his food. He doesn't know how to hold it yet, so I have to do it for him. He gets so excited when he sees the cup.
@Smurfette: That is awesome that she gets so excited to eat.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I wish R would take a pacifier. I wonder how much she is really eating over night.
@aprk: I am going to try a sippy cup this weekend. I bought some Zoli cups from the classifieds so we will try those once I get them.
@ALV91711: Seriously it is so adorable. How was last night?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: I've held the sippy to his mouth too, but he just looks at me like I'm a nut, haha. Maybe because it has a totally different "nipple" than bottles, so he doesn't know what to make of it?
@Smurfette: Yeah, she might just be comfort nursing! But it's hard to know for sure if she's not willing to take a pacifier. Oh well.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I know she can go all night without eating. Has done a handful of times. I am starting to cut back on how long she can nurse. So tonight we are going from 7 mins on each side to 6. Then after a couple days go down to 5, then 4, etc. Will see if that works. So hard cause she goes for the boob as soon as I pick her up, but is it out of habit or is she hungry?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Considering how much she eats during the day, I SUSPECT she's not hungry and is just going for the boob out of habit. But obviously I don't really know! It's a good idea to try to shorten the time she's on it until hopefully she doesn't even need it anymore!!

Just popping in to wish everyone a good long weekend! We're off to Chicago for a family wedding! Now that K is arching her back all the time and just wants to stand and jump, I'm worried about our long flight! And the jet lag again...

@Smurfette: I need to start doing this too. I feel like we are on an every other night sleep schedule. He has one good, one bad, one good, one bad.... frustrating. If he wakes up at 11pm, it's going to be a bad night. If he sleeps until 1, that is all he wakes up. Last night was a bad night. He wanted to nurse all night. That is the only way I can get him back to sleep at this point.
We went to the Dr. the other day about his diarrhea which continues. Well, seemed a little better yesterday. She thought it was a mild virus and told me to stop trying solids for a bit until his poop evens out again. Good news was he weighed 18 lbs. So he gained a little over a pound since his 4 month (which was a month and a half ago).

@shopaholic: Good luck! I bet she does great
@travellingbee: Every night I go to bed so nervous, wondering when she is going to wake up. I think I don't sleep good cause I am expecting her to wake up. Sucks.
Sorry he still has diarrhea. Glad that he gained some weight! I can't wait till R's 6 month appointment to see how much she weighs. She looks so little to me but is filling out 3-6 months much better now.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: I feel the same about the sleep. Anticipating the wake ups. we have a scale at home but he moves around like crazy and it isn't accurate if he's moving. The one at the dr. Office is bigger. So I was curious about weight gain too.

Someone has their crabby pants on tonight. Day care said she spit up a ton. One outfit change and three bibs. I hope this means tooth #2 is working on making its appearance. So glad DH will be home in a couple hours and will be all next week!!

@Smurfette: Last night he nursed four times, but woke up in between each time too. I'm going to try and wean him of the first feeding first since he just added that one on recently.
@travellingbee: That is good weight gain.
@Smurfette: I feel like I'm always anticipating the first wake up and it makes it hard to get to sleep. Some nights I feel like I don't want to just fall asleep and then have him wake me up. Then last night I went to bed early and couldn't get to sleep.
@Adira: I let him play with the sippy cup a couple times in his chair so he could get used to what it was before I started giving it to him with his food. He doesn't really get much out of it, but he likes it.
My good little car rider has turned into a car screamer. He is always good at the beginning, but then he will start screaming and not stop until he either passes out or the car turns off. Not that fun.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Xander likes to bang the sippy cup on the table or make me play fetch with it, haha. But put it to his mouth and he just stares at you like you're crazy!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: That is funny. I'm sure he'll get used to it and figure it out one day. There are some you can get that have silicone spouts, more like a bottle. Maybe he'd like that.

@Smurfette: reducing the time nursing at night is the video I posted last night. We're trying it too. Good luck!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: How has the first couple nights gone? Are you reducing multiple feedings or just one to start? I'm starting with the first one. Last night I cut it off at 7 min per side and he popped off no problem. Totally doesn't need that feed.
I was talking to my cousin today and her 3 year old boy was the same with nights and she said that reducing the time was how she got him weaned off his feedings. She said it takes time but it does work.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@ALV91711: that's encouraging! I hadn't considered just dropping one at a time (even though that makes sense!!) so I was just picking the times I though he needed a full feeding, and reducing all others. Last night, the first time he woke up I didn't even attempt to feed him and just soothed him. So that was promising. By the third time waking up though I was so damn tired, and A screams when I pop him off, I couldn't handle the screaming so I just fed him longer. Fail
The first night we tried, my husband was with us, and it took us an hour to get him to calm down without the boob at 2 am. That was rough. I couldn't do it alone last night. Hopefully we have more success when my husband gets home tonight.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: an hour is so long. I don't blame you for not wanting to do it yourself.
Last night Isaac woke up three times to nurse and that was it. No in between wake ups. I still kept the first session timed but was very happy to get more sleep. I hope this continues.

@ALV91711: That is great!!
R got up twice last night The first time was 1215, so she slept 5 hours, but Mommy didn't! I didn't get to bed till 1030 since DH got home right before then. He tried to get her asleep and it didn't work. Then she was up at 4 and then 6 for the day. But luckily DH went to get her and she had poop all over, so he had to deal with it

@ALV91711: yay. Hope it keeps getting better!!
@Smurfette: aw. Glad you had some help!

So I think K officially started really teething yesterday - of course while we were traveling. I finally see two little slits/bubbles on her lower gums. Gave her water (sort of) for the first time by rubbing ice cubes on her gums on the plane. She was inconsolable for a little bit there, but overall happy and chatty. Lots of Los on the plane and K was by far the best. But she had a Rough patch with the teething and I wished I had the baby Tylenol in my carry on instead of in our checked bag.
Drool is insane. She had a bit of redness, though not sure if it is really a diaper rash?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: eh, about average. I had no energy to deal with him screaming so I just fed him
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: what did you try? He looks like he likes it!!
DH was feeding R tonight and she hit the spoon or something but somehow ended up with cereal in her eye. Needless to say she wasn't too happy. She wouldn't calm down so we finally just stopped feeding. She wanted to eat but kept crying so she just got an early bath. She didn't eat much at day care today, dreading tonight.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: how much did you do?? I bought some Gerber purées and I think they are 2.5ozs and I am thinking maybe half to start with.
Oh R wanted nothing to do with her sippy cup of water tonight
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: we did a little less than half a pouch ... I'm not really sure how much. Maybe 10 tiny spoonfuls?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@shopaholic: I hope the teeth break through soon.
@aprk: That is so cute. How many times a day are you feeding him?
@Smurfette: I hope your night is all right.
Isaac is having a hard time staying asleep. I hope not to have a bad night after having a good night last night.
Isaac loves to eat and drink water out of his sippy cup. Next week after we get home (yay!!) I'm going to start a second meal.
