@shopaholic: have fun in chicago, and hope her teeth pop in soon!!
@aprk: your son is adorable!
@Smurfette: i haven't even introduced a sippy to J yet. i should do that for his next feeding. i'm only giving him about an ounce of solids at a time. i mixed some rice cereal into his squash puree tonight and he seemed to like it.
@ALV91711: i hope isaac sleeps well tonight!

@ALV91711: just once. He needs a full bath afterwards
@Mrs. High Heels: thanks!

You guys, I am at the end of my rope. This no sleeping more than 2 hours at a time thing is making me crazy. I want to run away for a day, check into a hotel and just sleep.
Poor Andy is so, so tired but he just wont fall asleep! And when he finally does, after an hour of coaxing, he won't nap longer than 45 minutes!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: HUG!!HUG!!HUG!!
Can you run away? Can you pump and leave milk with DH to give bottles? I don't know how you are still functioning.
You are against CIO right? What does his pediatrician say about?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: thanks. My husband is home for a few days thankfully and I told him he was in charge. So he'll bring Andy to me to eat but I'm not actively dealing with the wake ups. We haven't done bottles overnight in so long I'm afraid to introduce something else to make Andy scream. I'm not against CIO per se, especially now I can totally see why people choose it, and I've definitely let Andy cry for 5-10 minutes but it just escalates. He's pretty stubborn, so I don't know if it would work well for him.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: I didn't think it would work for R but it did. But then some nights it doesn't. I am sorry!! Glad your hubby is home so you can get some help!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: Hugs. Surviving on so little sleep is tough. I'm glad your hubby is home to help. Maybe could he give A bottles when he gets up in the morning until you want to get up. Maybe that way you could have a few hour break. Lock yourself in your room and sleep.
Isaac hates bottles and screams at them still, although I haven't tried in a week or so now. I wish he would so I could even just have a morning or afternoon to myself.
We were at a family get together this afternoon and I left before dinner so I could get Isaac home to be fed, bathed and put to bed. Well he fell asleep in the car and has been sleeping for 45 min now. I got his dinner ready when we got home as I thought he'd wake right up. I have a feeling tonight may not be so great if he doesn't wake up soon.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R just took a 2hr 15min nap! Granted she fought an hour to go to sleep. But she never naps like that for us. She slept through a feeding as well. So I hope this doesn't mean tonight will be even more wake ups then we have been having.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: That is an awesome nap. I hope it doesn't mess things up.
Isaac's late nap yesterday didn't mess him up for going to bed, thank goodness.

@Smurfette: nice!! We are working on A's naps today. Rough going.
@ALV91711: how was sleep last night?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: I called my Mom crying cause it was so hard getting her to nap in the crib. If we put her in the car she is out in two seconds but the crib, that is a whole other story.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@aprk: He got up only 3 times to nurse, but twice in between as well. How was your night last night?
Today has been a bunch of cat naps, I'm hoping after he nurses he will have one more nap. Mostly because I want a nap and we've been out most of the day.

Sorry everyone is struggling with sleep. We are hit or miss depending on the night. But hopefully things will be better since tooth #2 came through today!!!!! We weren't expecting it because the doctor made it sound like it would be a while. So it was quite a surprise. We also went to his first baseball game today and he did very well. He napped through three innings in my arms despite all the cheering. And we also tried bananas for the first time today and he seemed to like them. Lots of firsts this weekend!

I am so pissed at DH. Our friends came over for dinner and when they left, DH saw me lock the door and set the alarm. 10 mins later he opens the French door to go out back. I ran to the alarm but it woke up R:( she wouldn't calm down so I am nursing her now. Who knows maybe this will help us get a long stretch tonight.

@travellingbee: Wow, two teeth! That is great that he slept through all the noise. Hopefully these babies start having better night sleep habits soon.
@Smurfette: Sorry that he woke her up. Hopefully she sleeps good tonight.
I think Isaac is getting another ear infection. He is doing all the same things as last time since yesterday. I took him to the doctor this morning and he said he looked ok, but to keep an eye on the symptoms. They are still happening. I guess I'll have to give it another day and see what happens. If he is still acting the same tomorrow I guess I'll take him back. Last time I didn't catch on that he had anything wrong until about 5 or 6 days of him showing symptoms. I feel bad for the little guy.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: woo hoo! How far apart were both teeth? Waiting on the other middle bottom to shoe up. Has the 1 st tooth came all the way up? R's hasn't.......
@ALV91711: she only slept till 2 and she woke up screaming. Her diaper was so full and leaked everywhere. Fun times. I think I am going to buy overnight diapers even if they are a size up, since they don't make in size 2.
pomelo / 5621 posts
Yikes.....11:30 and I can't fall asleep!! Isaac has already woken up once and I had to nurse him to get him to go back to sleep.
@Smurfette: Overnight diapers are probably a good idea. It is not fun waking up because if a diaper leak.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: She woke up at 645, so I asked DH to get up with her then he can go back to sleep when I get up to feed her. He said she had a massive poop that went all over. So two blowouts:(
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: It was 10 days between the teeth coming through. I tired to get a picture of his gums/teeth, but he won't let me in! His first tooth is up through the gums but not a full tooth yet. It looks like this picture below (photo courtesy of Google). The other just looks like a split in the gum and I can feel it with my finger, just how the other looked last week.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: That is how R's one tooth looks. So ready for the other to break through. She is fussy today!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: Is he waking up just screaming? R woke up screaming after being asleep for 20 mins, then put herself back to sleep and then an hour and half later again. I came in after 20 mins. Changed her and the crying got worse, gave her Tylenol. I don't know if it is the teething or not.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: he's done that before but not recently. He just fusses when he wakes. Tonight he fell asleep in the car on the way home from my parents and then he woke up when we hit home. Wouldn't go back to sleep until almost 9. Just passed out after throwing a fit

@Mrs. High Heels: Thank you! Actually, after seeing the pic @travellingbee: posted, I don't want her teeth to come in yet! Seems like my baby's baby-phase is going much too fast! Sorry to hear about YOUR high fever now too! Are fevers contagious? It's been so long I can't remember...
@aprk: @Smurfette: @ALV91711: @travellingbee: Yikes! Sorry to hear everyone is having sleep, infection, etc. issues! Wonder Month from hell?
We are baaack from our trip to Chicago! I was very thankful that we were pretty much able to keep K on California time and to our regular schedule! The flight there, there were about 5-6 babies and every single one had their fussy moments, if not throughout the flight! K's lasted about 20 min. but it seemed like an eternity in the moment. Still, everyone around was nice and said she was by far the best baby on the plane! Our flight home was miraculous! 3 babies and not a peep from ANY of them! I couldn't have wished for a better flight since K actually napped for almost an hour!
She was also delightful through the wedding weekend festivities - everyone adored her! She let everyone hold her and freely doled out the smiles. I just did notice a lot of teething symptoms: red, flushed cheeks, swollen cheeks, red diaper area on/off, and A LOT of gumming everything and anything. I started giving her Camilia Boiron and she seems to like it! Wants to lick each droplet. lol. I'm never sure if/when to give Tylenol yet.
Super exhausted after traveling all day. Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day!

@travellingbee: that's how J's teeth look too! just two little teeth sticking out, but not all the way out.
@ALV91711: did you find out if it really was an ear infection?
@shopaholic: aw what a trooper!! GO K! she is so smiley in all your pictures, haha is she a social butterfly? glad she did so well with all those people!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: TOTALLY a social butterfly! She wants to dance and play with everyone all.the.time. Even when she's sleepy, she fights it so hard to stay awake and look/smile/talk to whoever is around.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@shopaholic: awww sooo cute!! is that more like you or your husband?
bananas / 9973 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: We are both pretty social and love to dance, but her resistance to sleep/nap is all DH. Me, I can sleep anywhere/anytime.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: Glad the trip went well and K adjusted well!!
@Mrs. High Heels: Are you feeling better?
@travellingbee: Hopefully the rest of your night went ok! I am so over these teeth. I hate this multiple wakeups at night.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
OMG, I am sooooooo behind on this thread!
@shopaholic: Oh wow, K's finally teething?? I'm wondering if Xander might be too - he was definitely fussier than normal and kept grabbing at his ear, which I heard can be a sign? But his behavior could also just be because he's sick.
Glad to hear your Chicago trip went well!!!
@aprk: OMG, he is sooooo cute!!! And I'm jealous of your good eater! We still haven't tried again - I'm waiting for Xander to feel better. Then I think we might try with cereal instead of going directly to fruits/veggies, since that already failed.
@Smurfette: Yikes! Bummer about food getting in R's eye! That sounds painful! Poor kid.
With the Gerber purees, I just spooned out a tbsp into another dish and tried to feed Xander from that. Then when he wouldn't eat any of it, I just threw it out and still had the rest of the package. You could try that and if she eats it all, add another tbsp?
Ugh, sorry your husband woke up R!!! I hate it when people do stupid stuff like that!!!
@ALV91711: OMG, you're going to start a second meal before I even get one going!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Could he have an ear infection? If he had a cold and now grabbing his ear, that could be it too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Very true! I hope not, but it's definitely possible! I guess I'm going to keep an eye on it for now and see if he gets any better and if he's still doing it in a few days, I'll call the pediatrician.
bananas / 9973 posts
Did you guys consult with your pediatrician before starting solids? K's 6 month appointment is actually more than a week after her 6 months. He has never brought up starting solids. Debating when I'll start - she turns 6 months on Friday!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Our pediatrician gave us the go-ahead at our 4 month appointment, but since I wasn't planning on starting yet, we didn't really talk about it. She just said that he was showing signs of readiness (able to hold head up, sit up assisted, move tongue around in mouth, etc). We don't have our 6-month appointment for another week+, so we just started without talking to them about it. Of course, it didn't go over well, but I'm not worried. I don't think you need to talk to your ped if you feel like both you and K are ready!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: At her 4 month appointment, it was on the sheet of information to hold off till 5-6 months. Listed signs to look up. Said not to give cereal hoping they will sleep longer.
We started cereal without talking to them. She has her 6 month appointment next Friday and I am planning on talking to her about it then. I want her option on BLW and when to start finger foods, etc. I want to cover a lot cause I am not sure what is the next appointment, 9 months?
I forgot to mention, we gave R avocado this weekend. DH had some in his salad on Sat, and we mashed one piece up really good and feed it to her. She didn't love it but we tried again Monday with my lunch, since we were waiting for the bottle to heat up. She liked it much better then, maybe cause she was hungry. She didn't want any after she finished her bottle.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: @Smurfette: Judging by @Arden:'s post and some of the other March babies' signs, I don't think K is quite ready for solids yet. She does watch food to mouth and starting to smack her lips. But she doesn't really reach or it, still doesn't sit up unassisted for even a minute. Sleeps fine. I guess I'll take it day by day.
Way to go R with the avocado!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: When you started giving R solids, did you do it before or after nursing? Hubs thinks we should give Xander solids BEFORE nursing because he thinks he's full and that's why he won't eat. But I'm thinking if he's full, then that's not a big deal and we shouldn't try to force him to eat solids by giving them to him first when he's starving... what did you do?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: She gets a little cereal an hour after a bottle at day care. And then I do a little when we get home, so about 45 mins before she nurses, right before bed. I think I am going to skip the cereal tonight, cause I am wondering if she is getting too full and not wanting to nurse as long, so that is why she is waking up so earlier now. Grasping at straws here...........
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Ugh, figuring out when to feed them solids versus nursing/bottles is such a nightmare! And I think we're going to try cereal next time we give solids again because if we mix it with BM, maybe it'll taste/smell familiar so he'll be more open to it. THEN once he's used to the spoon and texture, we'll try purees again. Solids are stressing me out, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: The cereal is good, cause you can make it really thin, so it is almost BM if you want to get him use to it. It is hard. I really want her to eat at night cause I like feeding her, so cute how excited she gets but if she isn't nursing as much then I need to cut it. Will see how tonight goes.
