March Mamas & Babies: 1/3 Done!

@Mrs. High Heels: Poor J and mama too! Seems like 6 months is sheer exhaustion for everyone...

I'd probably hold off on the vaccines if he's sick. But then again, I'm sort of pro-delaying and spacing out vax. And I have the time to take baby in for shots whenever. See what your doc says.

@shopaholic: I did a delayed vaccination schedule with Noelle, so I'm not against that at all... but with Jaren, he is getting exposed to anything Noelle gets exposed to at preschool, so I'm following the CDC recommended schedule with him.

@Mrs. High Heels: ah... that makes sense! Poor J! But usually younger siblings are tougher!

@shopaholic: I'm leaning towards holding off the vaccines too, it's just that he's already 6.5 months and whyyy does he have to be sick this week of all weeks! I delayed his 4 month shots too because he was sick right around the time of an appointment. Sigh.

@travellingbee: @Smurfette: @dojo: Well, so far he's just done it the one time, and when I flipped him back onto his back, he stayed there, so I'm not sure if he'll become a tummy sleeper or not! Guess I'll find out!

@dojo: That's awesome that Liam is getting better at sitting unassisted!!! Xander can do it too but if he leans to a side, he's likely to topple over. And sometimes when he leans too far forward, he ends up on his face, haha. And I'm jealous of your good eater! I'm planning on trying solids again this weekend with cereal and hope it goes better. And I have no suggestions for a sippy cup... I tried giving Xander water in a Munchkin one and he had no idea what it was. And now I have a Zoli cup, but we haven't tried it yet.

@shopaholic: Awww, sorry to hear you've been having a rough few days! It's definitely challenging when you can't just put the baby somewhere for a few minutes to get some stuff done without them getting into trouble or fussing! I don't know how you SAHMs do it!!!

@Mrs. High Heels: Awww!!! Sorry to hear that both you and J are sick!!! I know what you mean about these poor little babies being sick so much! Xander's sick every other week (and he gets Hubs and me sick a bunch too)!! As far as his appointment, I would probably call the pediatrician and get their opinion. I'm not familiar with the 6 month vaccines (we haven't had ours yet), so I'm not sure how much they might affect him. If they're likely to make him sicker since he's already sick, I'd probably push it back again!

@dojo: Sorry! Teething flat out sucks. We have had some rough nights, where you can tell she is just in pain. Last night was better, still woke up twice, but didn't seem in pain. I am hoping this means the 2nd tooth is going to pop through soon.
I bought some Zoli cups off the classifieds, just need to order the straws. We are just doing rice cereal, so I haven't really tried water too much. She didn't know what to do when I tried a sippy cup. I used my straw at a restaurant last weekend, as a droppler/let her suck on it and she spit out the water.

@shopaholic: What if you get one of those indoor play pins and a mat? Then she can squirm all she wants.

@Mrs. High Heels: Our office does the vaccines still if they are sick, just not if they have a fever. But if R was really sick with a cough/cold I would probably ask to hold off. Hope your house feels better soon!

R isn't crawling yet still. She is still getting on all 4's rocking back and forth, hold it, and then drops. She has started grabbing on my pants and pulling herself into my lap. That and army crawling. She is sitting up by herself much better. We have a basket of toys in the living room, and she likes when we stand her up, and she chooses a toy. It is so cute.

A lady from the day care office was filling in last night since a teacher had to leave early, and I was waiting while they changed R's diaper, and she was like you know what they say about babies that do everything early. I said no, and she said they are getting ready for another. And said that we better be careful. I said well if we are 1% that gets pregnant with an IUD, we would be in utter shock and not in a good way!

I will leave the baby making to @Adira:

@Smurfette: oh crap. Since Andy is crawling and eating I hope he doesn't expect me to get pregnant soon! Yikes. He's not sitting though, probably because he doesnt want to stay in one place , haha.

@aprk: Is he full on crawling? If so how long was he getting up on all 4's and army crawling before? We have been thinking for a month now that she was going too. I have to say it is kind of funny, she starts grunting cause she is frustrated she can't get where she wants too.

God I'm awful at keeping up with this board. Feel free to fire me, fellow March Mamas

Quick update! We went to our 6 month appointment Wednesday and the doctor had the nurses reweigh little miss. Why? Because she couldn't believe in two weeks she had gone from 18 pounds to 20 pounds. That's right. I've got a chunker on my hands. Anyways, her stats are currently 20 pounds, 1 ounce and 2 feet 2 inches long. I forget the percentiles.

Since she was just at the doctor's office two weeks ago for a belated 4 month appointment, they only gave her one shot - her HepB - and deemed her in perfect health. She's still in size 3 diapers but I've put her in her brother's size 4 diapers a few times just because they were handy and they fit pretty well. We're fluctuating between size 9 month and size 12 month. Bodysuits, so long as they're 6 - 12 or 12 month fit, 9 month shirts and pants still fit, but 9 month sleepers are too short.

We're not crawling or even getting on all fours but we have figured out how to roll back from our front to our back and we scoot around ton. She loves her exersaucer, standing and jumping in it. Debating on whether or not to get down big brother's old walker but I think I'll give it a little while longer.

We haven't really started purees yet. She's just not interested. I keep trying to get her to try them and she stubbornly refuses. I may just skip it and let her nom on a banana since she's teething but haven't quite let myself do that yet. I stocked up on a few purees while they were on sale at Target and Publix and while I know it's only a couple of bucks, they are organic and I'm loathe to just skip them completely.

And I think that's about it for the update!

ETA: Oh, she can sit up unassisted but can't reach a sitting position by herself yet.

@Smurfette: I can't believe she is already so close to crawling! We are nowhere near that!

    @NaturallyCathy: Great update! Wow chunker!

I have a question. For those of you whose kiddos are eating 15 ounces at daycare... how long are they there? L will only eat about 8-10 ounces and they are constantly throwing away my precious milk that he started and didn't finish! He is there from 730ish-4ish. I breastfeed him when I drop him off and pick him up.

  16. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Smurfette: it's taken about a month. He's not crawling like you would stereotypically think, but he's not army crawling either. He's got a weird shimmy wiggle thing going on, haha.

@dojo: yeah it's nuts. No more relaxing on the couch for me!

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@travellingbee: I drop her off around 715 and pick up around 445. She has been eating at/around 830, 1130, 230, and 430. I have asked them if she is due for a bottle at 5 or 530, to give it to her early. Since I nurse her at 630, right before bed, and I don't want to make her wait that long or eat that close together. She now eats cereal an hour after bottle #2. She eats 5 oz bottles.

The first month of day care she wasn't eating much at all. Not sure if she was just eating the minimum cause she was getting use to the bottles or cause she was waking up so much in the middle of the night and eating then.

  18. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Smurfette: So she eats 20 ounces at school?!

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@travellingbee: Smeo days.....yesterday I got there and she was due for a bottle at 5 and I tried to feed it to her, since they had already heated it up and she didn't want it. So we went home and she slept till 6, ate a little cereal and then didn't nurse till almost 7.

99% of the time I don't nurse her before we leave. Even if she last ate at 3 in the morning, she doesn't like to eat when she first wakes up. She still eats just 6 times at day, 7 if she has 2 over night wake-ups.

  20. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@travellingbee: Do you need to send 15 oz? It would kill me to see it wasted! We send 20 oz but now we split into 5 4oz bottles since they thought he was hungry more often. I seem to be able to keep up so I send it even though I think it's a lot. This past week we have been getting a bottle back each day so he's actually only eating about 16oz. He is there from about 7:15 - 4:15

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@travellingbee: I agree with @dojo: just send smaller bottles. I did that with R in the beginning cause she was wasting so much. If he is only eating 3ozs bottles, then send that. You can always send an extra bottle, so they have if he is really hungry. If not, then he can eat it the next day.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Holy smokes!!! Em's a little fatty!! In a good way!! Nice job growing, Em!!! I'm also glad to hear she's not really into the purees yet either! That makes me feel better about Xander.

@travellingbee: Xander is there from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I nurse him at 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., so he goes 12 hours between nursing sessions and drinks three 5oz bottles at daycare. He usually eats at 9:00, 12:00, and 3:00 at daycare. Can you maybe give them smaller bottles (and maybe just more of them) so that if he only wants a few ounces, it's not wasting so much milk? I've heard some babies actually don't eat a lot at daycare and they just make up for it at home with their moms! Maybe that's what he's doing?

@dojo: @aprk: wow, J is older than both your kids and he is not crawling yet!

@NaturallyCathy: welcome to the chunk club! love her cheeks! J is comfortably in size 4 diapers now.... i think he might be ok in size 5's, which is crazy to me because size 5 was the last diaper size his sister ever used before we potty trained her.

so i decided to reschedule J's ped appointment to next tuesday. i talked to the dr. and he thought it'd be best to veer on the side of caution since J doesn't just have a mild cold... it's a pretty bad one even though he doesn't have a fever. i don't want him to feel worse than he already does in case he reacts to the vaccines.

he's been sleeping A LOT today. i'm wfh so i'm able to monitor him. he took a 3 hour morning nap. and now he's napping again and it's been about 1.5 hours...

@Mrs. High Heels: haha oh we are not even close to crawling! That's ok with me though. The most Liam does is try to get some leverage with his feet and grunt while he's on his tummy.

Wow that's a good nap - hope he can get some good rest and feel better!

R's main teacher wrote on her sheet today that she had a great day and was a very good girl! Then tonight right before bath she crawled like two steps. Then wouldn't do it again. Fingers crossed she does it more over the weekend so we see it and not day care. 2nd tooth still not up:(

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

@Smurfette: go R! What a great way to start off your weekend.

DH got a surprise raise yesterday so we are going to celebrate with the extended family on Saturday. He also plays in a bball league that's starting up again Sunday night so I'm bringing the kids to watch his first game.

Making beer battered fish tacos for dinner! My first time so I hope it turns out ok.

    What are everyone else's plans?

@Mrs. High Heels: Yay that's great news about the surprise raise have fun celebrating! The fish tacos sounds amazing - hope they turn out delish!

For us. Not sure what I'm gonna make for dinner yet... Maybe some salmon. What I am most looking forward to is a couple girlfriends and I are celebrating our upcoming 30th birthdays tomorrow night and we are staying at a hotel downtown, getting a nice dinner, and pedicures! I am most excited about a full night of uninterrupted sleep!!!!!

@Mrs. High Heels: congrats to your DH! That is exciting. I want to come over for tacos!!

We have a 1st bday party tomorrow afternoon. Then Sunday, Mommy/daughter morning while DH runs 10 miles (training for a half). Think we are going for a walk in the new Bob! Then we might go to a friends pool.

We actually have no big plans for this weekend. My brother is coming over tomorrow to just hang out - watch TV, play some games, go for a walk. And then no plans for Sunday, though we probably should mow the lawn. And I'm HOPEFULLY trying rice cereal! Just need to go shopping, haha.

@dojo: Oh wow! Enjoy your night out!!! That sounds so much fun!

Lots seems to be going on, I'll have to catch up this weekend.

Today was day one of travel. Isaac did pretty good. He was pretty miserable by the time we got to my IL's. But who wouldn't be after 7 hours of travel time. Only 3 driving, but still a long day. Tomorrow we have a 1.5 hour flight and we will be home!! As much as I will miss my mom and family, it will be so nice to get home.

I think Isaac is teething. He went from a little bit drooly to super drooly. He is extra warm, no fever, chomping hard on everything, pulling his ear. I hope a tooth appears soon. He's extra cranky and has taken to sleeping in my bed at night instead of his own. It has only been a couple nights but I'm just too tired to worry about it. Tomorrow at home I'm going to try and get him to sleep in his crib.

@Smurfette: Wow! Exciting! Way to go R!

@Mrs. High Heels: Congrats to your DH! Poor J. Better to let him recover.

@dojo: K is not close to crawling yet too. She can somehow scoot, but nothing with lifting her body up. Not even an army crawl.

@aprk: I WISH! My boobs have shrunk. Even my friends and family tell me so.

@ALV91711: Good Luck! Traveling is no fun for the babies. I feel bad about being cramped up on those days. Hope the rest of your journey goes well. I forget where you are going from and to?

So Kaitlyn turned 6 months on Friday! Ah! *sob* My baby is growing so fast! I'm going to try to get to the Farmer's Market this weekend and start some solids with Avocado, Peas, or Green Beans. And water in the straw cup. She's been reaching for, grabbing, and pulling out my straws all the time this week!

Pulled out a lot of 6-12 month clothes to wash today. This outfit is 3-6 and still loose/big. Her size range is funny. I still fit her in some 0-3 stuff and also in 6 month stuff. I think I just keep the stuff I like out as long as possible. But now I'm ready for her to wear some cute new stuff! lol!

  34. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

I also think K is on her 6 month growth spurt. She's woken up again around 1 am tonight. So unusual! We also had a 1 1/2 hr nap that I had to wake her up from an hour before bedtime. And she slept the whole 12 hours last night. It seems like a long time since we've had a cluster feed growth spurt. I'm guessing that's what this is. Anyone else going through this?

ETA: just realized this growth spurt may be why I feel utterly exhausted and drained [literally] these two nights?!

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: I am waiting for the growth spurt but so far R is eating the same. Aside from the extra nursing sessions at night but she has been getting up twice again for awhile now. It sucks.
K is so cute!! Can't wait to hear how she likes solids. I have bought all 6-12 or 9 month fall/winter stuff for R, I just hope she fits in it by then!
@ALV91711: so glad you are almost home. It is going to be great to sleep in your own bed!
@aprk: I hope mine don't get any bigger!!

@aprk: hahaha, that sounds like an interesting problem!

@shopaholic: K is so stinkin' cute!!! I love her!!! And as far as growth spurts go, I have yet to actually experience one besides the first few in those first few weeks! Xander doesn't seem to eat anymore than usual and still sleeps through the night! Maybe he's not growing? Or we're just lucky...?

@Smurfette: I bought a bunch of 9 month and 12 month stuff for the fall and winter too! I just hope Xander fits in them!

And thanks to @Mrs. Blue, here's a picture of Xander looking out the window!

@shopaholic: she is so adorable. We spent most of the summer at my moms in BC and got home to Alberta today.

@Adira: That is such a cute picture. I have to go shopping for fall and winter clothes this week. Such a difference in weather from my moms to home.

@Smurfette: I can't wait to sleep in my bed tonight! that is so exciting that she started to crawl. I hope she does more this weekend.

    @dojo: Have fun this weekend!

We made it home today. 1.5 hour flight and Isaac slept almost the whole way. We are both pooped. Tonight I'm going to try putting him in his crib in his room.

Last night we slept at the IL's and he only woke up twice. Best night in a while.
