Baby Smurfette was moving all around! It was so cool to see it looking like a the little baby it is, instead of a peanut. Likes his/her hands up by the face. Could make out all 5 fingers on the one hand. Heartbeat was 161. The ultrasound tech had a hard time getting the neck measurement cause baby was moving so much. Which was great cause then we got to see baby for longer. Doctor said that the neck looked good, so hopefully the Down's risk will be low. We get the results in a week or two. Starting to feel real. OMG I am having a baby!!!

@Smurfette: You're having a baby!!! I'm so glad that the scan went well and you got to see the bambino!

I had lunch with a friend yesterday, she lend me a pregnancy pillow, a huge bag of maternity shirts/sweaters, and also said that we can borrow her infant carrier and the two bases they have. Her son only used it for 4 months before he our grew it, and he is only 9 months, so not like it is years old or anything. I think we are going to take her up on it and save the money.

@Smurfette: Yay!!! Glad your ultrasound went well!!! Seeing the baby and actually being able to make out features (like fingers) is sooooo amazing!!! Congratulations! When do you get the results of your NT scan, do you know?
We just go our results back on Friday. 1 in 1,500 chance of Downs and <1 in 10,000 chance of Trisomy 18. Both are considered not at risk, so we're relieved!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: They said that they would call within a week or two. But the doctor looked over the ultrasound and said that everything looks healthy. So fingers crossed she is right! Glad that your results were great!

@Smurfette: Oh good! I'm glad your doctor looked over the ultrasound and gave you reassurances! Ours didn't say anything, so I've been mildly worried all week, haha.

Hi March mamas! We hit another milestone today!.. Went in for our NT scan. Was supposed to see the genetic counselor first and then go in for the Ultrasound, but we were late to our appt so they switched it up and had us do the U/S first THEN see the counselor.
At the U/S, we were able to see the peanut's (no longer a bean, omg!) hands and feet. The neck fold measured in the normal rage, heartbeat at 177 and he/she is measuring a few days ahead but we're keeping the due date in late March.
Then we met with the genetic counselor who gave us the positive news that we had a 1 in 4000+ chance for down syndrome and 1 in 100,000+ chance for Trisomy 18... so both not considered at risk.
I was just confused why we were originally supposed to see the counselor BEFORE the U/S..because by switching it around, our counselor actually had our U/S results and was able to give us better estimates... any idea behind this logic?
and a pat on the back for all the March mamas for making it thus far.... we're almost past our first trimester. (and I think the earlier March mamas are already in their 2nd tri!) EEEK!!!

@cokiezombie: So exciting! Glad that everything is ok. Not sure why you would have seen the counselor first if they then talked to you about the results.Impressed you got the results right away. They had to send my into the lab, they look at the ultrasound and blood work.
According to some 13 weeks is the 2nd, so that means I am. But I am going by the baby center app on my phone and it says 14 weeks. So exciting!

@Smurfette: Yay! Glad to hear your little teddy gram is doing well!!
@cokiezombie: @Adira: Congratultions on your great results!! I have to say, that I am pretty nervous about getting those tests done!
I have an appointment with the OB tomorrow- and I am so excited to see my little cashew!! Its only been 3 weeks since I saw him/her last but I feel like its been forever! Also scheduling all my genetic testing tomorrow and a glucose test (boo) hopefully its not too bad!

@cokiezombie: Oh wow, those are great numbers! Congratulations!!!

@aprk: Is there a reason that you decided not to do it?
We wanted to 1)we wanted to see the little nugget 2) if something was wrong we would want the time to get as prepared as we can before baby gets here.

Is anyone dressing up for Halloween? We were invited to an engagement/Halloween party and costumes are mandatory. The bump won't be big enough to really play up that aspect - so instead of sexy nurse I can be bloated nurse? Does anyone have any fun ideas?!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: good guess, I did opt out of the NT screen. I just wasnt interested in doing more testing than really necessary. Frankly, I didn't want the percentages looming over us, either. I am taking care of myself and trying to be healthy, and beyond that which I can control, I figure whatever will be, will be.
grapefruit / 4669 posts
@aprk: We didn't do the 1st trimester screening.
I didn't feel strongly about it either way, but there are several reasons why we didn't schedule it: 1) I just watched a friend go through her entire pregnancy thinking the baby had developmental problems when there were none--I'm not comfortable with the chance for false positives; 2) a positive result wouldn't have changed anything about how we proceed w/the pregnancy; 3) as far as I can tell, our insurance doesn't cover it? but I'm confused by our insurance so I could be wrong; 4) just didn't get around to scheduling it.
In other news, we had an appointment today and heard the heartbeat again! We could also hear him/her twirling around in there...it's weird hearing movement but not seeing or feeling it! Gender scan is in 3 weeks exactly, October 2. I'M SO EXCITED!!!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@tororojo: thanks for sharing. It's good to hear all sides.
Congrats on the great appointment today! I agree - it's so crazy to think of them moving around but not seeing it yet. Our next appt to hear the hb for the first time is on the 24th. Excited!!

Has anyone started planning for their nursery? Am I behind because I haven't even started clearing out all the junk from the room yet?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: I haven't really considered it yet. There's a very high possibility we will be moving a month or two before LO is born, so I am sort of at a standstill.
I think "oh man, we have so much time," but I'm sure it will feel like it's all happening so fast after we pass the halfway mark.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Oh yikes! Moving a month or two before your baby is born will be rough! Are you hoping that that happens or are you hoping you don't have to move?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: yeah, we are sort of nuts, I know! This year alone we moved 500 miles away for my husband's new job, got married and got pregnant within a few months of each other. We like to do it big, I guess!
I am hoping we move. Since we are new to the area, we moved into an apartment to 'test the waters' so to speak, and now that we like it, we are hoping to find something a bit more permanent. And with more space!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I done some looking online but I can't find anything I love. I do know if it is a girl, it will include pink, cause I love pink! We are currently looking for a house. I am going to to give us till December to find something. If we don't then, I am going to start preparing the 2nd bedroom, which is DH's office, for the nursery. We are going to start cleaning it out cause either way it has to be done. I want to start now, cause the fall always go by so fast. It is going to be January before we know it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: @Smurfette: I hope you both are able to find something soon so you can move and prepare for the baby in plenty of time!!!
I guess I should at least start cleaning out the room. I have all my craft stuff in that room so I'm just not sure where I should store it now that it's going to be the nursery. Time to get organized!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
The nurse called me and she said that our first trimester screenings all came back normal. I didn't get to ask any more questions cause the phone cut out and when I called back the answering service picked up. I guess they were closed for the day. But we are so relieved that everything is good!! Yay for our little nugget!!!
honeydew / 7589 posts
We're moving too, but we aren't setting up a nursery right now since we're room sharing/co-sleeping. We'll be in this house until next fall, then we're moving internationally, so we'll set up a room for the LO in that house.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: yay for the great news!
@arden: moving internationally - I am envious and impressed
How's everybody doing these days? I have to admit I'm feeling a little blah ... I feel like these late first trimester weeks are no-mans land. We are confirmed pregnant, don't really look it yet, still feel sorta crummy and the baby (and setting up stuff) is still so far away. Frankly, my anxiety is at an all-time high, too.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I am feeling good. Ready for my belly to pop so I don't just look like I ate 10 burritos for dinner last night. Which I know an like 4 months I am going to wish to look like I do now! Find myself counting down the weeks till we know what the gender is. But I know that I don't need/want to rush things. I should just be enjoying this time.
@aprk: Sorry you are having anxiety! Hope you start feeling better soon. When are you in the 2nd trimester?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: Thanks. I just think I don't have enough to do and my brain is on overdrive! I am 12w1d right now. So, very very close!

What kinds of exercise is everyone doing? Trying to find a way to keep fit, but can't think of anything to do besides walking.
grapefruit / 4669 posts
@lawgrl: I've been walking for exercise, which is a big change after spending the first trimester laying on the couch! There's a 2 mile loop around our neighborhood that's pretty hilly/steep, so it requires a decent amount of effort. That's about all the exercise I ever do, preggo or not. Maybe some hand weights.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@lawgrl: I still am pretty much doing what I was before pregnancy, weights and cardio. Tonight I took a class that is spinning, weights, and other cardio all together.

This thread has been a little quieter than usual lately and I am doing nothing at work. So I copied this questionnaire from weddingbee; feel free to fill it out with updates! Here's mine:
How far along? 16 weeks
Gender: 3 weeks til we find out!
Total weight gain? 5 lbs-ish
Maternity clothes? I have 2 pairs of jeans and I love them, so comfy and cute! (I wear jeans to work) Going shopping for more stuff tomorrow.
Stretch marks? So far, none
Belly button (innie/outie)? No change, innie all the way
Sleep? Getting crappier now that the first trimester is over. I wake up at least once a night to pee and it's so hard to get comfortable now that sleeping on my back and stomach are out.
Best moment this week? Hearing the heartbeat again--it's so easy to get paranoid in between appointments!
Worst moment this week? My uterus is kind of hurting right now...not badly, just like I'm aware of it. Went for a walk at lunch and a hike last night, so maybe I just need to take some time off my feet.
Miss anything? Sleeping without waking up! Cold sandwich meat, too.
Cravings? Not really, but salty is good. And I love carbs! I always love those, though.
Most worried about? Something going wrong with the baby's health--what if our tap water is tainted? What if my heart rate gets up too fast and something bad happens? What if I don't eat enough healthy stuff and he/she doesn't develop properly? Just little stuff, I know it's all silly and (mostly) out of my control.
Most excited about? I want to feel this baby moving!
Struggles? I miss being able to use my acne medicine! But skin isn't too bad.
Movement? Not yet
Nursery progress? None...no clue where we will be living by then (DH may change jobs to somewhere far away, and if not we'll still need to move out of our apartment within the next year or so)
Names picked? Yes! Luisa or Silas
Milestones? I'm so glad to be well into the second trimester!
nectarine / 2631 posts
@blackbird: welcome!
I had my first appt with my Ob and he is great!! He was so nice and friendly and it made me feel so much better, since my first appt was kinda a disaster! Also he was so nice to my Mom who was with me (DH had a big thing at work and couldnt go) and that mad eme like him even more! He gave me a picture of the lil cashew and he or she was waving to us! Monday is my DS screening, so I will breathe a sgin of releif once that is over!
How is everyone doing?
honeydew / 7589 posts
How far along? 13 weeks
Gender: We'll know at 20 weeks!
Total weight gain? None.
Maternity clothes? One maternity dress I found at a thrift store, but I still fit into all of my regular clothes.
Stretch marks? None.
Belly button (innie/outie)? No change, innie all the way.
Sleep? Hah, what's that? I can't go to sleep, and I end up spending all night cloth diaper deal stalking.
Best moment this week? Getting 25% a few GroVia diapers? lol
Worst moment this week? Almost threw up several times, including in a parking lot. Almost passed out while grocery shopping and had to sit down on the floor on the "ethnic" aisle.
Miss anything? Soft serve ice cream, sleep, coffee.
Cravings? I have to force myself to eat. When I do eat, I want potatoes though.
Most worried about? Everything. I just want to hear this baby's heart beat!
Most excited about? Hearing the heart beat on Thursday!
Struggles? Functioning.
Movement? Not yet.
Nursery progress? We're not setting up a nursery in this house, but I've started a diaper stash if that counts!
Names picked? We have a large master list.
Milestones? I'm so glad to be in my second trimester!
grapefruit / 4669 posts
@Arden: You're CDing? Yaaay, we're planning to do the same! No one I know uses cloth diapers, but I think we're going with all BumGenius (4.0...but maybe some AIOs) since I hear the most consistent good reviews about them. Because of that, I haven't done any stalking--I figure we'll order a big stash in a few months. But I would like to get them buy 5, get one free from cottonbabies! Also, I want to know if I can buy pink or not!
In other news, your worst moments of the week sound horrible! I hope you start feeling better soon! Have you tried ginger candy or crystallized ginger? That's the only recommended remedy I haven't picked up yet. They have a bunch of different kinds at World Market and I'm planning to pick up a few the next time I'm near one.
@cheert16: Glad your appointment went so much better this time!
