March 2013 Mommas!

Just dropped off a check to reserve our spot at a daycare! So relieved to be able to check this task off!

@Adira: Wow! Lady you are on the ball!

  3. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: haha, I have to be! Half the daycares I called were already booked for the May time frame, so I had to act fast! Hopefully it's less stressful for anyone else looking at daycares!

  4. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Seriously? That is crazy. How much maternity leave are you going to take?

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: My company has FMLA, so I'll be taking the full 12 weeks that I can. Depending on when the baby comes and when I start my leave, I'm assuming I'll need care around mid-May, though hopefully it'll be later than that. What about you?

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I talked with HR and they said that I get 6 weeks paid through short term disability. Then another 6 weeks at 80% but if the doctor clears me to go back to work at 6 then I wouldn't get paid. I need to go and talk to them. I want to take 12 weeks even if that means we take no pay for 6 weeks. It would be worth it to me. I know that it is going to be hard enough putting a baby in day care at 12 weeks. I know I couldn't do 6 weeks. My boss said that he totally understands, so now I just have to clear it with HR.

  7. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think mine is similar. We got 6 weeks of Short Term Disability, paid at 60% (unless we have banked sick that we can use - that would be at 100% until it runs out). I think if you get a doctor to declare that you're not fit to come back to work, you can probably get more time of STD. But the 12 weeks of FMLA (which is unpaid) runs concurrently with the STD. So once the 6 weeks of STD is over, I'll have another 6 weeks unpaid. And I'm definitely taking it!

Does your company have FMLA? If so, you're guaranteed the 12 weeks, and should just take it!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I am sure they do. It is a pretty big company. I guess I just need to email the lady I spoke too and get more information. I did look up some day cares tonight cause of your post. So I have three to call now.

    I felt.... something. Yesterday.
I'm not sure if it was the baby or the bean dip, but I felt a distinct, short, "popping" kind of feeling on my lower abdomen, five or six times and then a few hours later once again.

I'm not sure... but it's exciting to think it MIGHT have been the baby!

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @Arden: me too!

I felt some little flutters yesterday during a meeting and again last night. But I still don't know if it was the baby or I am just imagining it cause I want to feel the baby so bad. Nothing yet so far this morning.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Arden: @Smurfette: I think that popping and flutters are probably the baby!!! When I first started feeling the baby, I was wondering if I was just gassy and it felt like little gas bubbles popping in my stomach (although low), but now I can tell it's definitely the baby kicking me in the gut. Soooooo excited for you ladies to be able to tell FOR SURE that it's baby moving!!!

  14. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Adira: Yay! I am excited. I bet you must be pretty excited too for your upcoming scan!

We also got some good news back yesterday from our 2nd trimester blood screen. Our risk of Down Syndrome dropped from 1/380 to 1/3,300. Our risk of other chromosomal disorders dropped as well, each around 1/10,000.

    How is everyone else doing?

Has anyone started registering yet? If so, where are you registering? We just found out that some family members will be throwing us an early shower (@26w) when we visit the midwest for Thanksgiving. The host is sending out invitations in the next couple of weeks, so we need to get started! I think we will go with Amazon and BRU.

In terms of baby movements, my stomach has been so crazy and rumbling and bubbly this whole month, so I'm having trouble telling what might be baby and what might not be. I'm also carrying really low in comparison to other people, so I wonder if that makes a difference? Here's a picture (xposted from WB).

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mole: Yay!!! Congratulations on the good news from your tests! So glad your risk for Down's and other disorders has dropped! What good news!!

I haven't started registering yet, but I also haven't heard anything about anyone throwing me a shower. When I do register, I'll probably go with Babies R Us and Walmart (Walmart because some of my family live in the boonies and that's probably all they have).

You look great, by the way!!! And it does look like you're carrying low. I think that hints at a boy, right?

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

I haven't started a registry yet. I am planning on doing BRU and BBB. I figured we won't have a shower until January. I would rather wait till after the holidays. I think we will have 2 with friends throwing one and family the other. But nothing has been said to me yet. I do want to register before Christmas though so we can get stuff off it for Christmas. After we find the gender I am going to go with a friend so she can tell me what we really need. Then take DH for the fun stuff, like toys, stroller and etc. He won't care what the washcloths and towels look it.

  17. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@mole: I registered, at Buy Buy Baby and Amazon. I spent SO. MUCH. TIME. on my registries, they are like works of art. lol

  18. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Adira: Thank you! I have definitely heard that carrying low indicates boy. My husband is still thinking girl, and he just points out that I have a very long torso for my height. (Consequently, at 5'7", I can wear petite inseams in some jean brands!) I guess we will see next week.

Do you have any predictions of your baby's gender?

I think it's still really early for showers, so I was surprised. The reason I'm having one so early is that I live about 2000 miles away from my side of the family. We alternate holidays with my husband's family, so Thanksgiving is the only time that I will see my side for quite awhile. I hear you on registering at stores for others' convenience. In a perfect world, we would just register at Amazon and call it a day! I know that my relatives will want to buy stuff in person, though.

  19. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Smurfette: Smart idea on registering before the holiday for gifts! I didn't even think of that. I think that I should give my husband the job of registering for washcloths; I'll handle the "fun" stuff instead.
@Arden: Oh man, want to share your registries so I can just copy them? J/K. My SIL had her first baby last summer, so I've just been copying her Amazon registry. She did a ton of research using that Baby Bargains book, so I trust in her judgment. (I'm also thinking I need all of the help I can get!)

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mole: I agree that it could be your torso that makes you appear like you're carrying low! It'll be interesting to find out what you're really having! Do you know how fast your baby's heartbeat is? I've heard >140 bmp indicates a girl, so I'm curious if they correlate.

I have no idea one way or the other. Based on heartrate, it's a girl, but I've been told I'm carrying low and OUT which indicates a boy. Who knows! Hubs wants a girl and I want a boy, so one of us will be happy, no matter what.

@Smurfette: Good idea registering before the Holidays! I didn't even think of that! I'm thinking doing the registry is something I'm NOT looking forward to - I have no idea what I need, haha. I want to just copy someone else's.

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: @mole: My family still asks for lists for Christmas. So this year it will be easy to write anything on registry for baby. DH and I are really hoping his Dad and Step-Mom will buy us the stroller for Christmas.

That is why I am going to take a friend with me so I know what I really need and what I don't. I just hope people don't just buy us clothes and get the stuff that we really need.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oooh, my family still does lists too, so that's a good idea! Although my parents already want to buy us our crib (or help out to buy it, depending on the cost), so I'm wondering if that will be a Christmas present.

  23. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@mole: I totally wouldn't mind sharing, but mine are based around cloth diapers, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, and our international lifestyle, so they might not be helpful for the average mom!

  24. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Adira: At 15w3d, our baby's heartbeat was in the low 150s. So who knows? It sounds like you guys are in a great spot with the gender reveal: both people will be very happy about the baby, and one person will be especially happy about the gender.

@Smurfette: My mom used to have me buy stuff and then just bring it home for Christmas, with receipts, for her to wrap! Haha.

@Arden: We are planning to breastfeed and cloth diaper as well. Our very first stash of diapers should show up on Monday: 12 infant prefolds, 12 regular prefolds, 3 Flip covers, 1 surprise AIO (free coupon code!), and 6 BumGenius 4.0s. Eventually, I want to get another 12 BG4.0s and some more prefolds and covers (maybe some Thirsties?). Do you know which types or brands you will be using?

  25. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

    @mole: We're buying newborn diapers and a stash of one-size diapers. So far we have 3 bumgenius newborn AIO's, 5 gro-via newborn AIO's, and 2 grovia one-size AIO's.

We'll also be getting some lil'joey newborn AIO's and a few more of the bumgenius newborn AIO's.

For our OS stash, we'll be getting bumgenius, rumperooz, grovias, and perhaps some blueberries.

I've also considered doing some prefolds with Applecheecks as covers, but we'll see.

How much has everyone in the March group gained so far?
I'm almost 18 weeks, but only started gaining probably 2 weeks ago, but I think I'm gaining more than my 1 lb per week!
    (so far up 3.3 lbs)

  27. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@shopaholic: Nothing yet. Still working on it...

  28. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: I am 16 weeks and up about 6 lbs. I am watching what I eat and working out. So I am disappointed with it. I did gain 2lbs on vacation and then I couldn't do my normal post vacation diet to lose it. Oh well, as long as baby is healthy.

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: @Arden: You ladies are making me feel fat, haha. I'm 18 weeks and have gained almost 7 lbs!

  30. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@Adira: I'm only 16 weeks, and I'm actually trying to gain it. I'm having a hard time eating. It isn't very enjoyable..

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Arden: Oh, well that's no fun! Although maybe it's healthier than what I'm doing (stuffing my face every chance I get!). Hopefully now that you're in your second trimester, the food aversion and nausea will go away and you'll actually be able to enjoy food again!

  32. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@arden - That was my problem in the beginning as well. I actually gained like 6 lbs in bloat the first couple of weeks, then lost it all, and then never had an appetite. Appetite came back starting a few weeks ago. Or I should say HUNGER came back. My tastebuds and stomach still don't often like the food.
@smurfette & @adira - Definitely it's good for the baby! I wish I could eat healthier foods. So far my "staples" are chili cheese fries, baked potato, and pasta. NOT good at all!

  33. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

I was up ~5lbs at 15w. I don't own a scale, though, so I'll have to wait until next week to see! I feel like I am doing alright, though.

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

I had my 16 week checkup today. Just meet with the doctor, she asked how I was doing and we listened to the heartbeat. I forgot to ask what the heart-rate was but she said that it was normal and healthy. Said that she could tell baby was moving all around. I still am not feeling anything, so I think what I thought I felt on Tuesday was my imagination. The big news is we find out on the 25th is baby is a boy or girl. Luckily it is at 830 so I don't have to wait all day. 20 days!! I can't wait.

@shopaholic: I just went in for a check up today and I've gained about 3-4 lbs at 15 weeks. I'm pretty happy with that, I walk a lot and do yoga at least once a week.

What do y'all do for workouts??
