@Arden: @Adira: Really interesting that y'all have to do the testing/carry the urine cup. I just leave mine in the little box in the bathroom. So I don't ever see the person that does the testing.
@cheert16: Yes, I have already been warned by friends that it tastes bad. Good luck!

@Smurfette: Is your cup one of those plastic ones with the lid? I know that those are the ones they have to use if they are testing for more stuff. I just pee in a regular dixie cup and bring it back to the nurse to test, but she said if I suspected having a UTI or anything, I'd have to use a different cup and stuff. Maybe they're being more thorough with you?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Every pregnant woman when you check in gets a little brown bag with a wet wipe and a cup with a lid in in. When I went for my yearly pap, I would just use a dixie cup. I will ask the doctor when I go for my next appoinment. I can't wait to find out the gender of our little nugget. You go Thur or Fri, right?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: My guess is that they are checking more stuff with your urine sample since you're getting the fancy cup with lid + wipe. That's what my nurse said we'd have to use if we were checking for UTIs or other things besides glucose/protein (I think that's what we're checking for now).
And yes!!! I go in Friday morning!!! As soon as I get home, I'll update you ladies!!!!

When I go to the birth center, I go into the bathroom and there are little plastic cups with lids, a container of testing strips, little individually wrapped wipes, and a sign on the wall explaining what to do.
I stick the testing strip in myself, wait 60 seconds (there is a clock on the wall), and then if the colors don't change I throw it (and the urine) away. If it ever changes colors, I'm supposed to bring the strip and the urine out to the midwife.

@Smurfette: @Arden: You ladies are making my doctor's office sound like a bunch of slackers, haha. I just have the dixie cups! Oh well!

Hi everyone! Thanks for thinking of me today. We did have our anatomy scan today. The first image we saw of the baby was actually a pretty clear shot from below of two little legs...and a penis. Ha. It's a boy!
It's funny that the gender was absolutely the first thing that we saw. The ultrasound room has a huge flatscreen monitor on the wall directly across from the bed, so I don't know how we would have avoided seeing the goods if we were team green.
We have decided to keep the gender a secret from our family/friends until our shower next month. I live about 2000 miles away from my family, so it will be nice to do some type of pregnancy-related reveal in person. (As a side bonus, keeping the gender secret for awhile should also cut down on getting a lot of highly gendered presents, which we are trying to avoid.) We are also keeping the gender off of Facebook until then too -- but we will finally make our pregnancy announcement on that site sometime next week.
Anyway, everything else looks great. We saw the brain, the spine, his hands and hugely disproportionate feet. (The tech said at this point, a baby's feet are as big as his/her shins!) I did have to get up off the bed and jump around a little bit to try to shift the baby into a better position to see his heart. Eventually, we saw that the heart looks good too! We were given a DVD of the scan, as well as two ridiculous ultrasound pics: 1. A crotch shot. 2. A pretty creepy open-mouthed face shot. They are not exactly the photos that you want to frame, although I do love them.
I am so happy!

@tororojo: The changer was around 64 bucks!
@Adira: My midwife group just has us pee in disposable cups as well. I just hand the cup to one of the nurses, and they dip in a stick to test for protein and sugar.

@mole: OMG, congratulations!!!!! Thanks so much for updating us!!! And you're the first Team Blue in our group!!!!
How long did the scan take you? Mine is on Friday, so curious how long it will be.
That will be fun for you to announce the gender at your shower! Everyone will be so surprised and thrilled!!!
Glad my office isn't the only one that does the dixie cups. I feel better now.

@Adira: Yay thanks! The scan took about 30 minutes. It would have been a bit shorter if we would have had a more cooperative baby. Also, my husband and I did ask a ton of questions throughout -- especially since the practice has an OBGYN do the anatomy scan.
You have to be so excited for Friday! It's good to have it near a weekend, since I have not been very productive at all today. I'm thinking too much about the nursery.

It's so exciting that you March ladies are all finding out the genders! I'm super sad that they decided to let me go 4 weeks between u/s this time because it means I go from 14 weeks to 18 weeks. I was really hoping to have a shot of finding out at 16 weeks! Regardless, it's so exciting to see all of you finding out!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@mole: Congrats on your little boy!!! Glad that he is looking nice and healthy!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Bummer you have to wait until 18 weeks! But they probably will have a better chance of seeing all the goods and getting an accurate reading for you at that point. Your twins are identical right?
cherry / 167 posts
@Mole: YAYYYY for your little boy! Did you have a gut feeling about the gender either way??
@Mrs.Blue: That stinks =( Buuuuut, like @Aidra said, you'll probably have a better chance of seenig the "goods" on both at 18 weeks.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: Yes, so if theyvan just see the gender of one, we'll know the whole deal!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Blue: That's exciting!! How far along are you? How long of a wait is it until 18 weeks? Do you and your husband have names picked out at all yet?
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I don't find out the gender till 20 weeks! It hasn't even been scheduled yet, which makes me sad. That was partially my decision though - I only wanted to get one ultrasound so I wanted to make sure that the ONE we did do got a clear picture so we wouldn't have to do a repeat. Still... it's hard.
Who is feeling movement now? I thought it was before, but now I'm sure - the baby is TOTALLY kicking me. It feels like a soft, cushioned thud.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: Yay!!! Congratulations on finally being kicked in the gut by the baby!!!
Mine is definitely kicking too, and seems to do it more and more every day, yay!
When is your next appointment? Will you schedule your anatomy scan then?
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Adira: My next appointment is on Oct. 18, and I assume we will schedule it then. I guess I could call and ask... but so far I've actually NEVER called the birth center for anything. Ha.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: How far along will you be at that? I agree though, you'll probably schedule it at your appointment. I always scheduled the next appointments after an appointment. My last one was during 17 weeks, so we scheduled the anatomy scan and 24 week appointments during that one.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Arden: ooh exciting! I'm a little envious, I have to say. No discernible baby movement for me yet.
I have a midwife appointment today, and I am a little sad it's not the anatomy scan - I'm getting impatient!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Arden: I thought that I felt a kick this morning, but nothing since then.
My cousin told me to lay on my belly and then I would feel the baby but I don't want to lay on it. That makes me nervous.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: You're 17/18 weeks, right? I JUST started to feel some flutters around then, but I wasn't sure if it was the baby or just gas. It became more noticeable this week (19 weeks), and I still don't feel something every day.
I still lay on my stomach occasionally. I figure if it doesn't hurt/isn't uncomfortable, it's probably okay. Though I've never felt the baby in that position - I feel it most when I'm sitting down. Never felt it standing up. I think when I'm sitting, it's the most squished, so that's why I feel it, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yep, 17 1/2 weeks now. All my friends pretty much felt their babies around 18-19 weeks. I am just impatient!! Maybe I will try the stomach laying tonight and see it that does anything. I will say I really miss sleeping on my stomach.
So exciting you are feeling the baby more and more. Can't wait to hear how your scan is tomorrow!!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Adira: I'll be 18 weeks at that appointment.
@Smurfette: Yeah, I think I felt it early, most people I know didn't feel it until 18-20 weeks. Maybe it's because I'm small, or because my husband is a soccer player? lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I hope this doesn't happen to you, but I was talking to one of my friends and she said she has a "numb stomach" and never felt her baby!
@Arden: Yeah, my bet is at your appointment, they'll tell you to schedule your ultrasound for the next couple weeks! So exciting!!!

Is Pottery Barn expensive? I think I might have expensive tastes... I like a lot of the nursery decor from Pottery Barn... specifically:
http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/gray-elephant-nursery-bedding/
I want this room!!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: Gahh, damn my expensive tastes! I love the grey elephants and think it'll go good with my grey and teal room! It seems like everywhere I look, neutral is really green, and I want GREY!!! Booooo!

@Adira: Could you try skipping the set and just buy the sheets and maybe the crib skirt (since that's the only part you'll really use anyway)?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: Yeah, I guess I don't need ALL that stuff, haha. Plus I wouldn't want the bumper anyway because of the risk of SIDS. Maybe I could just buy some of this stuff myself and then find other decor that matches elsewhere for cheaper.

@mole: Yay! glad to hear everything went well and that you are now Team Blue!
@Mrs. Blue: They are making me wait till 19 weeks to find out the gender!!
@Adira: Love that room!

@Adira: That is adorable. I second the buying the individual pieces verses a set. Have you checked out this site? You can design your own pieces.

@Smurfette: Thanks for that link! Very cute stuff they have there!

@aprk: @Smurfette: @cheert16: Thanks everyone!
@Smurfette: I think that I will be getting my crib skirt from that website. I just ordered some fabric samples yesterday. The sheets I will probably just buy locally.
My husband suggested that we go to Ikea this weekend to start setting up the nursery! I originally wanted a crib like the Oeuf Classic or the Babyletto Mercer, but I keep hearing great things about the Ikea Gulliver and Sundvik. The prices -- $99-139, depending on finish -- can't really be beat. We will also buy one of the shorter Malm dressers and put our changer on top. We'll also pick up some of the Expedit inserts to provide more storage to the two Expedit bookshelves that we already have in the room.

@Adira: Woo hoo!! Are yall so excited?? Everything else look good?
