@Smurfette: I wonder if I should hope for two boys, hahaha. That's too bad your grandfather passed away before finding out about the baby!
Wow! Do your siblings also have children? Don't feel too bad - my SIL has a 7-year-old and my brother has no kids with no plans to have any anytime soon, so our kids won't be close to any of their cousins at all!! 3 years won't be a huge age difference, especially once they are older. Hubs and his sister are 6-7 years older than their cousins, and now that they are all adults, they're really close.

@Adira: My sister isn't married and doesn't want to have kids. So I just have two nephews. They live out of state but are working on moving down GA. So fingers crossed they are here soon.

@cheert16: Yay!!! Congratulations on passing your glucose test!!!
And @aprk has her Gender Scan after you, so you're not the last!

@cheert16: Yay! Why did you do it so early? I don't think that I have mine till like 28 weeks.

Anyone that knows the gender, did you look at the Chinese Gender Chart to see if it was correct? I just did a test and it said that I should have a girl. You have to figure out your lunar age first.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Okay, I'm having trouble figuring out how to use that chart. I conceived within May 21 - June 18, which is the leap 4th lunar month. So does that mean I should look at the 4th month?
If so, the chart is wrong! It thinks I should've had a girl and I'm having a boy!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That is how I read it. The calendar is weird, cause the Chinese calendar is different then the one we use. And they count you a year old then you really are.
I was just interested to see if it was right or wrong for people. My friends seem to split half wrong and half right.

@Smurfette: I did the Chinese gender chart and it says boy, but I am leaning towards girl. I don't have a strong preference, I certainly won't be sad if it's a boy, but I think I'm more ready for a girl and a boy will require some reprogramming of my brain...

@Adira: yes!! I thought I was last!! I am so jealous that a bunch of ladies already know!
@Smurfette: my parents both have diabetes so it runs in my family so they decided to do it early- I still have to do it at 28 weeks again! Boo!! It's gross
nectarine / 2631 posts
@Smurfette: the Chinese calendar says girl.... Only 28 more days till we know for sure!!

Random weird confession time: someone on Twitter mentioned egg salad tonight, and it sounded so good that I got out of bed (I was reading) to make some. At midnight.
And then I remembered that I had eggs for breakfast too.
Eating 6 eggs in one day is probably not my wisest move, eh? Oops. (It was so good, though!)
Any weird food-related events happening for you ladies?
apricot / 373 posts
@Smurfette: I've seen a couple versions of those charts. In most (like the one you linked to) I am supposed to have a girl. I'm having a boy!
@aprk: I don't think that I've had any intense cravings or aversions so far -- at least none that are any stronger or crazier than normal, pre-pregnancy. I would like a pumpkin beer, though, which is something that I used to buy and enjoy around this time of year.
@cheert16: I'm glad you passed! I am going to try to schedule my test right after Thanksgiving, so I don't have to worry about it during the holidays.
My family keeps trying to guess the gender -- and I think my dad tricked me last night! We were talking on the phone, and I mentioned that we were going to just put a changing pad on top of the dresser in the bedroom. My dad asked, "Are you sure that will be enough room for him?" I answered, without thinking, "Yeah, we measured!" My dad then laughed, adding "A him, huh? Or is it a her?" Whoops!
My mom is begging to know too, just so she can take advantage of the Black Friday sales. I think that we will announce to family at Thanksgiving and then other relatives at our shower that weekend.
In other news, my husband is awesome and spent 3 hours last night putting together a tricky Ikea dresser. I came home from work to be surprised with an assembled piece of furniture! Yay.

@mole: Are you not telling your family what you are having?
We are planning on keeping the name a secret, so afraid someone is going to trick me into saying it.
I *think* that I am feeling baby flutters off and on all afternoon today. I hope I am not imagining it this time!
nectarine / 2631 posts
@aprk: Wow! I havent had any cravings like that- but I hope its for something semi healthy like eggs and not for hot fudge sundaes!
@mole: Aww! Glad your family is so excited! I dont know if I will be abel to keep it a secret after we find out- i will probabaly be so excited i will just blurt it out to anyone I see!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Ooooh, baby flutters!!! Don't worry - if they really are the baby, you'll start feeling them more and more and they'll become more obvious!
We were going to keep the name a secret too, but someone asked, and we just told them, so there goes that, haha. But we're good about being firm and saying "His name will be Alexander" so that there's no room for discussion. I was worried about people being all "Ewww... really??" but everyone's been nice so far, haha.

@Smurfette: Thanks! Hubs and I actually had it picked out years ago, so I'm glad we're finally getting to use it!

@Smurfette: We wanted to wait until we go visit my family for the holidays. I'm around 2000 miles away from my family, so we didn't get to tell them about the pregnancy in person. As a result, we wanted to be able to tell them the gender in person in a cute way (probably just with a cake?). It's kind of fun having a secret like this, but I am glad that our trip is only 5 weeks away.
The name we are definitely going to keep a secret, mainly because we don't want to tell everyone and then change our minds at the last minute! I think we have a first name, though.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@mole: That is sweet that you are going to hold off and do it in person. Good luck keeping quiet!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I wasn't going to, but my boss asked me when my due date was and stuff because he needs to find someone to cover me while I'm out, so I figured I should probably go ahead and file for leave now. But it is a relief to know that that's done - although I'll have to eventually call back and update them with my actual start and end date since currently they're just using my due date and 12 weeks from then.

I think today, at 17w1d, I am feeling the baby move for the first time. It's so weird! And cool! And weird!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: so exciting! I think I felt the baby for the first time this week too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Yay!! That's so exciting!! What does it feel like for you? For me, I thought I was just having gas bubbles popping or something, but it just kept happening and I finally realized it was baby, haha.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: It felt like a butterfly/nervous feeling, and then teeny tiny pops or pinches. It's so crazy!
@Smurfette: yay!

So I went to my appointment and they called in a prescription for an ultrasound to the place, and the place is supposed to call me to schedule and ultrasound sometime within the next four weeks.
I really wish I had a date... just so I could know how long I have to wait.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: Is this for your gender scan? I hope they get back to you soon and that your ultrasound is sooner rather than later!!!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Arden: the waiting is rough! I hope you find out soon. I have to wait for my scan until Nov 16 ... Ugh.

@Adira: Ahhhhhhh!!!!!! You're having a boy!!!!!!!!!! I totally missed this, and I'm so excited for you! Congrats!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Adira: Yeah, for my gender scan. I'm 18 weeks and they want me to have it between 18 and 22 weeks. I really just want a date to look forward to...
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: My anatomy scan is in 2 weeks at 18w, but I have another u/s Monday, so I'm secretly hoping they'll be able to tell! Either way, less than 2 weeks!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: I hope they do it closer to 18 weeks than 22! That would be a long wait!!!
@Mrs. Blue: Exciting!!! Maybe you'll find out early, which would be fun! But either way, it's good it's under 2 weeks! You'll know soon enough!

My 2nd NT & gender scan will be this coming Monday, at 18 weeks!
I was hoping to do something fun and personal with DH. I suggested to write down on a piece of paper what gender we think the baby will be ..and then we'll reveal it after the scan.
Have you ladies heard of something like this before or have any ideas how we can make this more fun/personal? I just wanted to do something special and different since this is such an exciting time!!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@cokiezombie: I know someone who asked their u/s tech to write down the gender but not say it aloud. They kept it in an envelope and opened it on a special night when it was just the two of them.

Trying to catch up on my phone here...sorry if typing is bad!
Chinese Gender Calender was right for me...girl!
@cokiezombie - I had big plans to do a gender reveal dinner, but we found out so early, there was no surprise. I think it'd be super fun to do though!
We had our 20 week scan today and everything looked great! Dr.'s office even has the 3D machine and we got a couple of not so great pics. They always tell me it's difficult to get LO's good profile pic. She is tucked all the way down and close to my spine...which is why I've been having bad lower back aches.
Also found out I have an anterior placenta today.
