March 2013 Mommas!

@mole: Sorry to hear you've been sick!!! What a bummer!

Oh my gosh, I'm so jealous that you actually have your registry set up! I haven't even started and I'm beginning to feel panicked that I'm behind the ball. I haven't even cleaned out the room that's going to be the nursery!

Hubs and I haven't really talked about a babymoon - I suspect we're not going to go on one though. I really need to save my vacation hours in order to cover most of my maternity leave, and even still, I won't be able to cover the whole thing. I'm jealous though, a weekend at Santa Barbara sounds fun!

@Adira: Thank you! I can't complain too much since I know how much other people in this group suffered with morning sickness in the beginning. Knock on wood that it was just a one-off illness or something that I ate!

I am lucky that my SIL had a baby last summer, so I've been relying on her advice (and Amazon registry) to construct my own registry. It felt overwhelming at first, but I just try to add a few things on it every day. I feel like most of our shower gifts will be the "fun" stuff -- toys, clothes, etc -- so I still have plenty of time to do research on the more important things like bottles, pumps, baby carriers, etc.

We are lucky that SB is within a couple hours drive for us since my husband also can't take any time off for a babymoon! (My work schedule is much more flexible.) We will probably just leave after work on Friday and drive back on Sunday. Do you guys work weekends? Is there somewhere close that you guys could go, even if its just for a relaxing daytrip?

@mole: My SIL actually just had a baby last summer too! I should look at her registry to see if I can steal some ideas. Though this was her second baby, so I think she had a lot of stuff already.

That's a good idea - to do a weekend thing. We live in New England and it's just getting colder, so I'm not sure what we would want to do. I'll have to talk to Hubs and see if he's interested in doing anything!

@Adira: If you want any help with registering, I've researched everything to death (I love researching) and would be happy to help!

@Arden: haha, thanks! I think I'll have to make a first pass and then I'll have to ask you ladies WTF I'm doing and if the stuff I'm adding makes any sense, haha. I'm thinking of recruiting my mom to help out.

Ditto on the registry help. I am finally happy with mine.

I am going on the 10th with a friend to register. I figure she has experience at this whole baby thing so she can tell me what I really need and don't need. Then I will go with DH to do some fun stuff, like toys or activity mats, etc. We are going to Babies R Us and then I am going to copy most at BuyBuyBaby. Since we are going to have two showers and knowing who will go to both, they will shop at different stores based on location. My Mom is going to come with me to BBB, figured it was a good way to get her involved. DH hated registering for the wedding, so he is fine with not being super involved with the little things for her. He said I don't care what the wash clothes and bath tub look like, you go and have fun!

@mole: Thanks and sorry to hear you've been sick!

RE: Babymoon - we just got back from ours in Kauai. It was super nice and relaxing! SB sounds like a perfect weekend getaway. Be sure to visit the farmers market.
RE: Registry and shower - I am happy and a bit obsessed with my registries but I haven't told anyone about it yet.
@Arden: Glad to hear someone else is the same! I just like to edit it constantly!
@Smurfette: DH is very happy he doesn't have to do anything for this registry too!
RE: Maternity shoot - Yay! You are in L.A.? I'm in O.C.! Hey neighbor!

@mole: We probably won't take a babymoon. We just went on vacation in Aug, I was 10 weeks, to St Thomas. It was planned before we found out we were pregnant. We are going on a 3 day trip during New Years weekend with friends so I guess that will be it. I really want too but DH has to have surgery on his elbow next week, then with holidays, nursery expenses, and other things that come up, I don't think that we can. We need to save for when I am not getting paid for the last 6 weeks of maternity leave.

@mole: yes on babymoon! we are planning a 4 or 5 day trip to Hawaii for the following week. DH wants to go to Honolulu because it's more convenient w a nonstop flight but I want to go to Kauai, so we'll see.

@Adira: If it were up to my husband, we would go somewhere where he can snowboard. His birthday is in January, so we'll probably go on another weekend trip for him. I'll stay in the hotel and drink hot chocolate.

@shopaholic: Thanks for the tip about SB. Hawaii sounds fantastic! And, yes, we are neighbors! I live on the westside of LA.

@Smurfette: Your trip to St. Thomas sounds amazing! I've always wanted to go. Maybe in a few years? I bet you'll have a great time on your new year's trip.

@cokiezombie: Man, I am jealous of all of you Hawaii-goers! I don't think you could go wrong with either location. Are you in CA too (or just in a convenient location for non-stop flights)?

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mole: haha, I actually will probably be doing something similar in January! My husband's family has a place in Maine near a ski resort and so I know there's talk of going up there this winter to go skiing. Guess I'll be staying in the lodge or somewhere while he does that too, haha.

    Hey ladies,
So our baby moon was canceled because my gram is really sick, and they don't expect her to make it through the weekend, so we cancelled so we could be home. We are sad, but it's better to be with our family right now. The plus side (I needed some positive in this situation) we got to move our gender scan up so it's Thurs 11/7. That's something to look forward to.
Quick question- how are you managing stress? I find that I am not doing that very well with everything that is going on, and don't want it to effect my baby... Ideas?

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

    @legallyheidi: congrats!

@cheert16: sorry to hear about your gram. It's great that you can be with your family. Are you able to sleep at all? Or even get away for a few minutes by yourself to clear your head?

@legallyheidi: Congratulations!!! And welcome to Team Blue!

@cheert16: I'm so sorry to hear about your gram! It's good you'll be able to spend some time with her now though. As far as stress, I'm not sure I have much advice - maybe try to spend a few minutes every day just relaxing or meditating or something?

    Hi all!

Sorry I've been MIA! Things have been crazy around here! So exciting to read about everyone's babymoons!!! DH and I are hoping to take one at the end of the month, but life is a little up in the air right now with work and a few other things. Chances are if we go we'll take a last minute 4 or 5 day trip to Bermuda or Cuba or something. Otherwise things are going well! I feel HUGE, there is definitely no mistaking me for anything but pregnant now!
Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot to tell you all, it's a girl!!!!! YAY!!!! Congrats to the rest of you who have found out, and good luck to those of you who still have scans coming up!

@mole: Oh, we are going up to Mammoth so DH can ski as much as possible before the baby comes. So glad we have a family place up there now so I can have a place to hang out while everyone's on the slopes.

@legallyheidi: YAY! Congrats on Team Blue!!!

    @cokiezombie: Hey there fellow west-coaster!

@cheert16: Sorry to hear about your gram. I think you would rather spend time with family though and nice that you get to find out the gender sooner now. As for stress, I always find yoga helps me. So does a good long walk by myself, do some stretches, breathe in fresh air. IDK< corny, but works for me.

@Mrs. Mousie: Yay! Congrats and welcome to Team Pink! I was wondering about you last week and wondering if you'd found out! Have you guys decided on a name?

@shopaholic: Thanks! We do have a name but we're not telling! I'm having 2 showers: 1 for family at the beginning of January, and just at the beginning of February with friends

So great news!!! We're moving!!! YAY!!!! We just have to do a home inspection and that's that!

@Mrs. Mousie: yay!! Another team pink!!

@cheert16: so sorry to hear about your gram. Thoughts and prayers.

@shopaholic: My sister is throwing a shower for family and she told me to just let her know if I prefer January or February. I will probably tell her end of January. Not sure when the others will be. I know girlfriends will throw one and then another friend told me that she wants to do couples one so DH can have one.

@legallyheidi: this will be the 3rd on each side but the first granddaughter on both sides.

@Mrs. Mousie: Nice to keep it a secret!
@legallyheidi: Awww... that's so nice everyone is so excited! First grandchild for my parents. 3rd for my in-laws, but their first granddaughter.

Wow! Everyone here is pretty lucky to get multiple baby showers! I was just expecting one, thrown by my sis and bridesmaids, but DH told me yesterday that HIS co-workers wanted to throw us one too! I thought that was super sweet and hey, if we get more of what we'll need, I totally appreciate it!

Wow! We only have one Team Green. Excited for @Penguin917: @Aprk: @Cheert16: to find out their team this week!

I finally bought some stuff for our little girl I went looking for Halloween stuff on clearance at Old Navy but they were all out. So I had to buy a couple sleepers cause I hadn't bought anything for her yet.

We saw family yesterday and my Aunt bought her first diamond. It is a rattle and so cute! My parents got her a really cute dress and my grandma got a little baby doll. My parents also gave us an ornament with a pregnant lady, with a big belly, and her shirt is rolled up with 2012 written on it. Love it!!

Sorry to not be actively posting. Things have been good lately and I'm so excited to find out the gender tomorrow! This will be the first grandbaby on my side so my parents can't wait for me to tell them.

Besides things like gender reveal parties - how have you been telling friends and family the gender? We're keeping the name a secret.

@Smurfette: That ornament sounds cute! Do you know where they got it?

Trying to post a recent picture; hope it's not huge!

@penguin917: They got it at some craft fair. It looks like it is made from clay and painted. We just texted everyone with the gender, nothing special. We are keeping the name a secret too. Although we are still deciding on the middle name, we have the first name done. You look great!!!!
