@shopaholic: This might be a stupid question but how do you know she is kicking your bladder? I am so clueless when it comes to where body parts are. I am still not feeling hard kicks often, mostly just movement in general. Darn placenta up front.

@Adira: Woohoo! I can't wait to join you in two weeks! According to my schedule from the OB office, I will do the glucose during the 28 week checkup. Which should be the days after Christmas and before New Years. Unless it is a separate appointment. I would rather do it before Christmas. I will schedule it the end of the month at my next appointment. I have heard from people that it wasn't as bad as they were expecting and then heard it was just as bad.

I felt so bad this weekend, she was moving and kicking some, so I put DH's hand on my belly and of course she stopped. He is just waiting to feel her so bad.

@Smurfette: Oh, you'll know if the baby kicks your bladder! You'll feel like you almost peed yourself! And then you'll probably feel like you have to go, even if you've just gone to the bathroom, haha.

For me, the glucose test is with the lab, so it's a separate appointment than the regular checkup, but I scheduled mine on the same day. The glucose test is a 2-hour affair where you get your blood drawn three times, so I schedule my 28-week appointment during the 2-hours so that I have something to do while I'm waiting. According to my OB's office, you do the glucose test between 26 and 28 weeks, so I'm actually going at 27 weeks 4 days, and just doing my 28-week checkup a few days early.

Hubs hasn't felt the baby move for me either. I have an anterior placenta, so the placenta is in-front, which I think makes it harder to feel from the outside too. I haven't tried to make Hubs feel though, because I can't predict when he's going to kick. He'll kick a couple times and I'll get excited and then he'll stop. I'm waiting until he kicks for longer and then I'll try to get Hubs to feel it.

@Adira: Glad that my husband isn't the only one that hasn't felt the baby yet. I keep thinking we are behind or something. Good to know about the glucose test. I thought that it was only an hour test, then if you fail it is a 3 hour test. Maybe she is kicking me in the bladder and I just don't feel it. I go to the bathroom and 5 mins later feel like I have to go again all the time.

@Smurfette: I think you'd notice a bladder kick. It's not just that you feel like you have to pee all the time, which I also feel, but it's this quick burst of "Argh, I almost just peed myself!" And probably if you DO have to go at the time, you probably actually will a little, haha.

Maybe different OBs do it differently, but with my glucose test, they said they draw blood, give you the drink, then draw blood again after 1 hour and then again after 2 hours. At your 24-week appointment, they'll probably go over it with you. I just had mine this morning, so my midwife explained what would happen and we scheduled it.

How are you ladies feeling these days? My belly feels SO FULL and I just can't imagine stretching out more (ha ha, I know it will get way bigger). My breathing can get really labored at times, and sleeping sucks. I think it's because I have such a short torso. It's gonna be a long winter ...

Sorry for the vent, but I thought the second trimester was supposed to be "comfortable!"

  6. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@aprk: Awww, sorry you're so uncomfortable!!! My back has been bothering me for a couple weeks now, but I got my office to order me a new chair with good lumbar support, and I always sit with a cushion behind my back at home, and that's definitely been helping. It's hard to get comfortable to sleep though, and I feel like my circulation is terrible. I'm always waking up because SOMETHING has fallen asleep, like an arm or my hand or my foot or something. So annoying.

Sometimes my ribs hurt and sometimes I just feel... uncomfortable, and can't figure out why. I blame the baby. Also, if I stand for too long, I have to pee, haha. I think the baby is right over my bladder or something.

I've also noticed that I'm totally out of shape. Going up two flights of stairs leaves me winded unless I take them really slow. And I did registry shopping on Saturday and walking around the store made my legs really sore!

So... to sum up, @aprk, you're not alone! And it's only going to get worse! Wheeee....

@aprk: Sorry you are so uncomfortable. Yes, sadly it is only going to get worse. I am having trouble sleeping too. It got better for a while, but the last week I feel like I just toss and turn all night long.

My back hurts off and on. I need to get a pillow for my work chair, cause it sucks. @Adira is lucky her work bought her a new one.

I have noticed that whenever I am on my feet for too long, I am just tired. I was on my feet shopping for most of Sat morning and afternoon. It wore me out. DH wanted to go to a movie and I had to tell him I was just too tired, I just wanted to sit on the couch all night. Starting to get worried about our trip with another couple the end of December. I know it is going to involve a lot of walking. I didn't think at 28 weeks it would be a big deal, but now I am thinking it will be.

Oh! AND I convinced my mom that she's allowed to throw me a shower, so I AM getting one!!! It's probably going to be in late January though, so I'm going to be as big as a cow and exhausted, haha. But I'm excited she's throwing me one because I was worried I wasn't going to get one at all!

Do you ladies have showers scheduled already?

  10. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Adira: I don't have nearby family, so my mom is throwing me a mini shower when we're home in December.

  11. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@aprk: Oh nice!! That'll be fun! Do you have any friends that will throw you a friends-shower or anything? My mom already let me know that both my grandmothers on my side of the family probably won't come. One of them will be in Florida until April or so, and the other doesn't drive.

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yay!! I see nothing wrong with your Mom throwing you one. I am guessing mine will both be at the end of Jan/beg of Feb too. Can't really do any sooner because of the holidays.

  13. aprk

@Adira: can you call them during your shower so they can at least say hi? We just moved here a few months ago, and my friends are scattered all over. I just had my bridal shower earlier this year (honeymoon baby) so I feel ok about something small, lol.

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, the holidays are messing me up too, haha. But I'm hoping to be able to have the shower in January (as opposed to February) because I'm due early in March. One of my good girlfriends delivered a month early, so I'm worried about waiting too long to have my shower!

@aprk: Oh, that's a good idea! Not sure if my grandparents would be interested in that or not. One of my grandmothers is soooooo unsocial (she was reading a book during my wedding reception) and when I called her to tell her she was going to be a great-grandmother, she was all "Oh! That's nice!" and that was it, haha.

@Adira: Aw thanks! Yeah, Kaitlyn was a name that DH suggested that I finally loved too! It was so hard to reach a decision we both loved. He would love Kaelyn too! Even easier for our non-native-English-speaking relatives. lol! Congrats on V-Day!!!!

@Smurfette: Oh! The bladder kicks just feel like a twinge like all the sudden you have to pee yourself and then the feeling is just, gone. I also have an Anterior Placenta so they told me I would feel the kicks later or less, but little girl must be a strong kicker, cuz I've been feeling her for sure since about 18 weeks. DH hasn't but felt LO kick but two times. I think it will be cooler for him when he can SEE her moving. hahaha

@aprk: Yes! I feel like this all the time and feel like I don't even have room in my stomach to eat! Seriously sitting at a 90 degree angle to eat in a restaurant is SO unappealing these days! I just want to recline! And sleeping? Forget about it! I'm sleeping like 5-6 hours a night now with 2-3 bathroom breaks. I have a short torso too, maybe that's why? IDK about "comfort trimester" but my M/S is back for sure.

@Adira: about the shower - YAY for you!!! I think we'll be doing it towards the end of Jan.

@Adira: I'm aiming for a late Jan shower date too. I'm due in late March and I didn't want to be too big while mixing and mingling with the guests.

@Smurfette: I didn't know it was a bladder kick when I first experienced it last week (20 weeks). I felt a quick pressure on my bladder followed by an intense urge to pee, but that was just after I used the restroom! Then I knew it was the baby! It's annoying when there isn't a restroom nearby but it's also super exciting to feel it!

@shopaholic: LOL yeah.. finding a name that both our parents can pronounce (asian family here!) is our mission. Every time we come up with a name, I ask my mom if she can pronounce it ..if she can without slaying it too terribly, it goes on our list

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: @cokiezombie: I THINK the baby might have shifted for me because I haven't noticed any bladder kicks the last few days (knock on wood) and I have felt some kicks to my stomach instead! Which is FUN! They kind of tickle, haha, but I LOVE THEM!!! I was watching TV with Hubs and I just started giggling and he was all "Uhh... what?" and I replied "The baby's tickling me!" He thought I was a nut-job, but I was really enjoying it! So much better than bladder kicks!

@Adira: I love feeling the baby kicks! We were watching "Skyfall" this weekend and the baby kept kicking during all the action scenes! It was the sweetest feeling ever.

I can't wait til DH can feel/see his kicks too. I have an anterior placenta..so just gotta be patient. The reward will be worth it

@Adira: I am already planning on asking my Mom to come paint. She loves to paint and I hate, so I am using the excuse I can't

My sister is letting us store stuff at her house, since we need the office as the nursery now. So we are going to go ahead and take a car load this weekend. My goal is to get the room empty by the first of Jan, except for the desk. Then in Jan move the desk into our bedroom and get the room painted. Then I have Feb to get everything set up. I work better with deadlines. Hopefully I can get it done with the holidays.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, my mom loves to paint too! Plus she has all the supplies so all I need to buy is the actual paint!

Sounds like your schedule is similar to mine! I'm planning on having the room empty and ready for painting by the first weekend in January. Then I'm setting aside those first two weekends to paint. Then it should be all ready by the time I have my shower at the end of January and I can move everything in and set up!

You're lucky your sister is letting you store stuff at her house! I've been scrambling to find new places for all the stuff I have in the nursery and I think I'm making a bigger mess elsewhere! But I figure I can always deal with that mess later as long as the nursery is ready for a baby!

@Adira: Very lucky! We have no storage in our condo. The storage units we have are full. Most of it we never use but DH doesn't want to get rid of yet. Pack rat! Going to try and just take as much as I can to Goodwill.

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh yeah, a condo would make it harder. We have our basement so we can always just put stuff down there that I can't find a place for! Although it'll likely stay down there forever - I'm not much of a cleaner after it's out of sight!

  33. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yes the condo does make it harder. We have been looking for a house since April, same time as TTC. We thought for sure the house would come before baby. Opps! Hopefully we can find something!

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: haha, yeah, that's a bummer you didn't find anything sooner! But a baby is more exciting (in my opinion) so I'm happy for how things turned out for you.

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I think so too! At least the condo is 2 bedrooms, so we can work with it.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, you guys will be fine!! You'll just need somewhere bigger if/when you go for baby #2. Although my brother and I shared a bedroom until we were about 4 or 5, so you have plenty of time to find something!
