@Smurfette: Good luck at your doctor's appointment - I hope you get some advice! And good for you for still working out!!! I stopped going to the gym at 20 weeks, so I know that's probably my biggest problem - I'm eating too much and not exercising enough!
I've HEARD that often the weight gain slows down in the second trimester, so I'm hoping that that is true for us, which will definitely help keep us from gaining TOO much weight! I am nervous about having to lose all this weight after the baby is here - losing weight is so hard for me when I have all the free time in the world! I can't imagine how much more challenging it will be with a newborn to take care of!

@Adira: Thanks! We have to have a quick ultrasound to measure the back of her brain, so I am excited to see our little nugget, or Nuggs as we call her now. Makes it much easier keeping the name a secret. I feel much better when I do work out so that helps in keeping me going, but I have scaled it back, which I am sure is part of the weight gain.
Do you mean it slows in the 3rd trimester? I can't believe only a month left and I will be in my 3rd trimester. Time is flying by.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh yeah, oops. I've heard it slows in the THIRD trimester, which I hope is true!! It's hard to believe that we're all close to being in the third trimester already! I felt like the first trimester went by soooooo slowly, but this trimester is flying by! Although now I'm getting nervous to actually take care of a baby, haha!

Okay ladies, I just signed up for some classes!!! I signed up for a "Caring for your Newborn" class for January and an "Infant CPR" class in December. I think once I take these classes, I might feel a little less anxious about actually taking care of a baby, haha!
Anyone else signing up for classes?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That is on my agenda for the doctor tomorrow. I am going to sign up for a Jan hospital tour. But I also want to sign up for a breastfeeding class, infant CPR, and see if they have a "Infant for Dummies" class.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I'm hoping our "Caring for your Newborn" class is essentially "Infants for Dummies!" I've never taken care of an infant before so I'm SCARED!

@adira: I lost 11 pounds my first trimester, and as of this morning's appointment, at 24 weeks, I've put 5 of that back on. I know I'll gain more in the coming weeks, but I'm trying to be good cause of the GD history, so I think being extra careful has slowed my gain down quite a bit.
I signed up for some child birth classes today, that start in January. They're more for my husband, but we're not even sure if we'll be able to make them all, due to his work schedule. So, in the meantime I'm just telling him things and he's actually reading a lot on his own about it.
After next appointment I'm in the 3rd trimester, going every 2 weeks! I swear, when I first got pregnant, March seemed like a lifetime away. And now I'm finishing my Christmas shopping and getting ready for the New Year already!
March still seems far away, but I'm starting to feel a little unprepared! I only have some clothes for her, and a bouncy chair. I know I have time after the Holidays, and my mother and mother in law are throwing a shower in January, so I know we really wont' be totally unprepared. I think it's just some nesting instinct that's making me feel that things need to be ready! lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Wow, I'm both jealous and not jealous of your 11 lb loss in the first trimester! Were you very nauseous? If you lost weight because you weren't able to keep food down, I'm definitely not jealous. But good for you for keeping the weight gain down! As long as baby's healthy, I guess that's all that matters!
It's weird to think that I'm almost six months pregnant with only three months left to go! There's still soooooo much to do! I think after I have my shower and know what I still need to buy, I'll probably feel a little better.
Does everyone have their showers scheduled? Is anyone not having a shower? Mine is schedule for January 20th.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: I wasn't throwing up, but I just didn't want to eat much. I also ate healthier in general than I did when not pregnant, so that contributed to the weight loss.
I don't think my shower is scheduled, lol. My mom and mil are throwing it, but I'm not sure how much they've planned of it so far, lol. I'm trying to just go with the flow, but I'm thinking they'll need a nudge soon! I know the Holidays are here, now, but there's a baby in here! lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: haha, my mom needed a nudge too! I brought her with me when I set up my registry and she asked if I was having a shower! I think I cried a little on the inside and told her that if she wasn't throwing me one, then no, I wasn't having one! She thought family wasn't allowed to throw them! But I convinced her that she definitely could and insisted she have it in January (as opposed to February), so I'm at least getting one now!
You're due mid-March, right? So you probably want to have your shower by early February at the latest! Maybe next time you talk to your mom, you could say something like "My weekends are filling up - when were you planning on having my shower so I make sure I'm free?" or something like that.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: My mom was saying the same thing, which was weird, cause she not only threw my first shower for my son 5 years ago, but also a shower for my brother's wife when she was due. I think she just didn't want my mil to do it by herself, lol.
I have risk of pre-term labor (my son was born 8 weeks early), so I'm hoping they'll get it together in January. I'm definitely not planning on having the baby early, but I definitely feel more urgent about being ready, just in case I go early again. I don't feel like I go go early, though...I had a hunch with my son that he would be early, but this one feels like I'm going to be happily uncomfortable all the way to the end, lol.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Oh wow, 8 weeks is early!!! Hopefully this time around, your baby will decide to cook a little longer! But that would definitely make me feel anxious about having the shower earlier rather than later! My friend delivered her baby a month early, so I just kept saying to my mom "No no, we've got to have it in January! What if I deliver early like so-and-so did???" I imagine that planning it WITH someone (your mom AND MIL) might make it harder to plan though, but hopefully they hurry up!

@Adira: I did a poll about weight gain on HB awhile back. Seems like a lot of women had their weight gain slow or even go back down a little in the 3rd tri if they gained a lot in the 2nd tri?
As for me, I'm not sure how much. I think my scale is wrong or broken, because it's always different when I go to the Dr.s office. I think I'm up 11-13 lbs.
@Smurfette: I do have friends too that gained like 40-50lbs with their first pregnancies and they all seem to drop all of it, except the last 5lbs really quickly, so at least that's some hope...
Yay for getting to see Nuggs again! I get to see baby girl also this week on Wednesday I think to check on the calcium in the heart. FX'd it's all gone by now.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: We have our shower set for Jan. 19th and probably another smaller one thrown by DH's co-workers the following day.
@katiew92081: Is your risk for pre-term labor related to your history with GD? I have my glucose test coming up and that's one thing I've been worried about, because this baby in here gives me a major sweet tooth, which I never had before! Soda, cookies, ice cream, and candy...argh! I have to try and watch what I eat too but it's so hard sometimes when nothing else tastes good! 8 weeks is early! I would definitely want everything to be squared away sooner than later too! I'm hoping to get the nursery done ASAP!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Friends are throwing on on Jan 13th and then my sister is throwing the family one on Jan 27. Another friend said something about throwing a couples shower/party but she hasn't brought it up again, so I am not sure if that is going to happen or not. I am glad they are in Jan though, I have a feeling I am not going to want to do much after the middle of February till she gets here.
@katiew92081: I hope your baby girl stays in cooking longer then her brother did! I am feeling so unprepared too. I need to start cleaning/emptying out the office but first I have to get Christmast shopping and wrapping done. Feeling overwhelmed what all has to be done in the next three months.
@shopaholic: I don't lose weight easily, has always been a battle for me, so that is what has me so scared. Fingers crossed. You are doing great on your weight gain. Fingers crossed the calcium is all gone. Keep us posted!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Oh yeah! I knew someone had done the poll, but couldn't remember too! That poll gave me hope because I've been really packing on the pounds in this second trimester!!
Also, I HATE stepping on the scale at my doctor's office because it's always 3-4 lbs heavier than what mine says at home!! But it seems to be pretty consistent in that it's ALWAYS 3-4 lbs heavier than what mine is telling me. I'm blaming it on the clothes.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@shopaholic: I think so, but nothing was ever confirmed. I took the standard glucose test at my 27 week appointment. Never heard anything from the Doctor office about my results, so I assumed no news was good news. Fast forward to my next appointment, at 31 weeks, and they look at my chart and state alarmingly, "oh, you seem to have gestational diabetes!" So, I spent the next week learning how to be careful and in the middle of the night at exactly 32 weeks my water broke. Eight hours later my son was in the NICU. He only stayed 15 days, but it was really hard.
Looking back, I'm sure that my nutrition probably made my amniotic sac weak. This time around I bought a glucose meter as soon as I fell pregnant and I've been adamant about my nutrition. i'm thinking it's making a lot of difference. Also, my midwife prescribed me some progesterone, just to help keep my amniotic sac strong. I have more control of my own pregnancy this time around, being more educated on what to look for.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Wow!!! I can't believe your doctor didn't get back to right away about the results of your glucose test!!! That's so scary that it took FOUR WEEKS for you to find out that you had GD!!! You could've been doing something differently in that time had you known!!! Glad that everything turned out okay with your son! It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things this time around with your nutrition, so I suspect your baby will stay in there longer!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: Thanks! Yes, I think a shower sooner will be more comfortable. So ours is about 6 weeks before DD, but I don't care. Beginning of Feb. got all weird with my sister's birthday, Super Bowl, and Valentine's Day. And I think it's far enough out from Christmas holidays for people to be too busy.
@Adira: Me too! Last time I asked if I could remove my boots before I stepped on the scale! bahahah like it counts that much!
@katiew92081: Well that's nice (not!) that they didn't even bother to tell you after your test! Hmm... I had to take progesterone supplements in the 1st trimester of this pregnancy after it dropped (and 1st preg resulted in a m/c). Hopefully this time around they are monitoring you more closely and all your preventative measures will help you keep baby in longer!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@shopaholic: This time around I'm monitoring myself more closely. I'm with a midwife cause I didn't want to be lost in the crowd of pregnant mothers at a hospital based facility. My midwife is awesome and is great about keeping me on track. we already did an early glucose test that came back great (she told me that day, like 2 seconds after she took my blood, lol) and I have another on New Years Eve. I'm also gonna have my group b strep test early this time, so that if I do go early, I won't have to deal with antibiotics for it if I don't have it. (I went too early with my son, so I got the antibiotics just in case.) But, like I said...I really am hoping to just let Baby Girl stay cooking til full term!
My husband is real good on keeping tabs on me, too.
@adira: I don't have a home scale, but apparently the scale at my birth center is really flattering. Many women say it makes them lighter, lol. I think it's the loss/gain that matters most, so the exact number of where you're at isn't as important.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: My last appointment, I weighed myself at home last morning and the doctors was 7lbs heavier. My clothes don't weigh that much.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh wow!!! That's quite the difference!!! I would be so mad if my doctor's scale said that much! Although maybe your home scale is just flattering?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: don't say that. The number is still depressing on the home scale!

Have any of you guys "popped" yet? I think I finally "popped" Thanksgiving morning at 23 weeks.
I woke up, felt my tummy and it was rock hard. Before I would say the bump was mostly fat being pushed out, but now there's no doubt there's a little baby growing inside. It's super exciting because he's kicking all the time..too bad my DH hasn't been able to feel anything yet due to my anterior placenta.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@cokiezombie: yes! I think I popped a couple weeks ago, so maybe 21 or 22 weeks. So exciting!
bananas / 9973 posts
@cokiezombie: Oh yeah, I think I am definitely "popped" now! No way I can suck it back in. haha
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cokiezombie: I definitely popped and I think you can tell from my 24 week photo, but I probably popped around 22 weeks. I thought I was rocking a pretty good bump at 20, but it's definitely more prominent now!

Just got to work from the doctor's. We had another ultrasound, baby girl wasn't stubborn this time, so they could measure her brain. Happy to say she looks perfectly healthy. Estimated weight is 1lb 8ozs, and measuring a day ahead. She was moving all around and keeping opening and closing her mouth. We even got a wave from her!
I asked the doctor about my weight gain. She suggested eating less fruits, said that the sugar in them can cause you gain more weight. So I will try that and see if it helps since I eat fruit twice a day.
Next appointment, De 19th for the glucose test. Hope it isn't bad!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: great news!! And thanks for making me feel not so bad about not eating enough fruit, lol.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: YAY for such a great appointment! Oh no on the fruit thing! It's like 50% of my daily foods practically!
Hope you got a picture of the wave - that's gotta be precious!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: Glad that I could be of service to you!
@shopaholic: I wish we did! She did give us some pictures but she didn't get the wave. But at least we got other pictures.
apricot / 286 posts
@Smurfette: ohhh you got another u/s! How exciting!! Yikes..good to know about the fruits.. i actually eat 2 servings of fruit a day too, so I should actually cut down due to the sugar content ..
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yay!!! Glad baby girl was being cooperative and everything is looking good!! And it sounds like sugar is probably my problem too - at least you're getting yours from fruit! I'm getting mine from chocolate.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@cokiezombie: I'm short, with hardly any torso, so I popped forever ago. With my first I looked further than I was, and again it's the same, lol. Baby girl has no where to go but out!

So last night I had a crazy mood swing: laughing. Something lame and not very funny happened, but I laughed SO hard...and I couldn't stop! I was crying, my side hurt and I could hardly breath. My poor hubby probably thought I had gone crazy! I managed to calm myself down, but I still had a few aftershocks of giggles. Amazingly, I didn't even pee my pants!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: haha, that's awesome!!! At least crazy pregnancy hormones put you in a good mood instead of just sobbing for no reason (which has happened to me twice now)! And I'm impressed you did pee yourself - I definitely would have!
apricot / 286 posts
@katiew92081: hahaha you just made me laugh thinking about your giggles and crying at the same time.
the other night, i let out a stink bomb and DH was complaining, and oh man the waterworks started!!! I was crying and saying how insensitive he was, then I started laughing with tears running down my face because the smell creeped up to me and it was, in fact, horrible!!!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@cokiezombie: hahaha! Don't you love feeling like a crazy person?

Where has everyone got their crib and other nursery furniture from? We were given a crib but it is a drop crib and DH and I decided to just buy one so we feel better. I want to look at the ones at Ikea, cause I like one of their dressers, so this way the whites would match. But I found a couple at Walmart that have good reviews too. We don't want to spend a ton but want a crib that will last 4-5 years, or 2 kids.
