March 2013 Mommas!

@Smurfette: We have extra dressers already, so I was just going to use those (and put a changing pad on one instead of buying a changing table), so all we ended up needing, furniture-wise, was the crib. We went with the Graco Charleston Convertible from Babies-R-Us based on reviews from Consumer Reports:

    http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3894374&CAWELAID=447150888&pla=plab&cagpspn=pla

I really wanted to get a crib that could be converted into a toddler bed and then again into a full bed. This one also came in a dark color that hopefully will match (or mesh well) with the furniture we already have.

@smurfette: We're having to be very minimal, so Baby Girl is getting a pack and play and a couple of plastic drawers, lol. It actually has been refreshing to only have to think about basics. once we move into a bigger house she'll have her own room and I'll be able to do non-baby things in it, which is kinda cool, too.

@Adira: I like that crib and the price. I really want a white one. We are going to Buy Buy Baby this weekend to order the glider, so hopefully we can find a crib too.

@katiew92081: At least minimal is going to be a lot cheaper!

@katiew92081: LOL! I haven't had a hormonal outburst of laughter yet. Sounds hilarious!

@Smurfette: We got the Jenny Lind crib on Amazon. I picked it because I loved the design and the price is incredible!!! I also knew that if we have a boy in the future, I would happily use it again (and paint it a different color). It can also be changed into daybed or a toddler bed down the line!
    http://www.amazon.com/Davinci-Jenny-Lind-Stationary-White/dp/B002T1HH1I
I'm using a dresser as the changing table and I found an antique one I loved (w/ a matching nightstand) from an antiques dealer on Craigslist. I have to sand and re-paint it, but the quality is AMAZING! All solid wood and dovetailed construction! That one took a lot of searching and waiting for (most are always sold by the time I call an ad), but well worth it!

UPDATE: We went to our special ultrasound for the Echogenic Intracardiac Focus this morning and YAY! Both the tech and the other Dr. did not see anything on the ultrasound! Either way, they said it's so common in Asians, they don't worry about it. The tech tried on & off for almost the whole hour to get a good 3D face shot but baby was way down low under my hip bone. We did get a couple of shots though (I posted one on my IG if you follow or care to see). Feel much better now, even though I wasn't too worried anyways. Also, even though everyone tells me I'm showing small, baby is measuring on time and perfectly at 1 lb & 13 oz.!

@shopaholic: This is one that I was looking at today. I have been looking on craigslist for a dresser but no luck so far. I want a long one so I have room for the changing pad, basket with lotions, and then a lamp or something.

So glad that your ultrasound came back fine. Glad that she is measuring perfectly!

    @Smurfette: Thanks lady!

Do you mean you are looking for an antique dresser? My tip is to look for it on Craigslist at least 2xs a day and call/email right away if you see one you might like! My sister and I were both on the hunt for mine for a few months before I finally found one I liked, could afford, and got ahold of the person first!

Here's a BEFORE pic of my dresser (long enough as you described):

@Smurfette: The crib comes in both Cherry and White, so if you like it, you can get it in white!

@shopaholic: Yay!!!! So happy about your ultrasound!!! That must be such a relief!

@aprk: Thanks and thanks! I'm hoping it looks even better "after"!

Anyone experiencing Braxton Hicks at all? I'm not sure if I am or not, but occasionally my stomach will... tighten I guess? I guess I'm feeling it tense maybe, though I'm not really sure, but when I touch it, it does feels harder than at other times. I originally thought it was just the baby moving in a weird way, but I heard that people start feeling BHs after 20 weeks, so maybe that's what it really is? Anyone else notice this?

  12. cokiezombie

    apricot / 286 posts

@Adira: hmm..can you be a little more specific about the tightening? last time i felt a sharp twinge. aslo, can anyone describe how heartburn feels like? i've been feeling very uncomfortable near my ribcage when i sleep on my left..hence i've been sleeping more on my right (which i know im not supposed to!)

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cokiezombie: Hmmm... it's kind of like when the baby kicks, except it's just a consistent pressure and it feels more spread out instead of localized to one spot like when the baby kicks. It's so hard to explain, haha!

As far as heartburn, I think it affects everyone differently, though I'm not sure. For me, it feels more like a burning in the back of my throat and I kind of feel like I want to vomit, though it's localized to my throat and doesn't affect my stomach.

And I've ALSO been fairly uncomfortable trying to sleep on my left. I've continued to sleep on my back even though I know that's bad. I just can't get comfortable on my side - my stomach feels too heavy and my ribs hurt.

  14. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: Definitely sounds like Braxton Hicks! I started really noticing them around week 18. At first, I thought the baby was turning or moving positions, because a certain area would get hard or tight for a little bit, then relax. Dr. said it was pretty normal for new moms to think it was baby moving, but actually they are BHs.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Thanks!!! I definitely originally thought it was the baby just moving in a weird way, as opposed to kicking me, but it makes sense that they are BHs! I'm curious to see how this pregnancy is going to continue to progress, haha. There's always something new going on!

I "think" I may have had some BHs last night and it freaked me out A LOT. It was like the whole bottom of my uterus clenched/seized/contracted a few times. Not cool. I'm fine with it as long as baby stays in there until March!

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I think that I have had them a couple times in the past week. The first time I noticed it was one morning I got up to use the bathroom and my stomach was rock hard and then it went away. I have read they are totally normally after 20 weeks too. Such a weird feeling though!

Do you have a pregnancy pillow? It might help with sleeping on your side. I borrowed a friends, and it goes through my legs and then part of it goes under my belly so it gives more support so I can sleep on my side. I so miss sleeping on my stomach.

I started freaking out last night cause I didn't feel her much at all yesterday. DH even tried poking my belly last night and nothing. But I got some hard kicks in the middle of the night, so I feel much better. I wonder if yesterday she flipped and was facing the inside. Do babies do that?

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@sheskrafty: Seriously! Keep on cooking, baby!

@Smurfette: I do not have a pregnancy pillow, though I was thinking maybe I need to look into getting one! Do you like the one you borrowed? Do you feel like it helps?

I have days where the baby is pretty inactive too, and it definitely makes me worried, but he usually does SOMETHING at some point, so I'm trying not to fret. And then the next day, he's usually more active, so I'm assuming nothing is wrong.

I don't know how often babies flip, but I assume they do, since they often turn from breech to head-down, so I'm assuming they could flip the other way to (front to back). Plus I think often babies are born facing down, so that must be normal, right?

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yes, the pillow helps. I couldn't sleep without one. If I am going to sleep on my side, I need a pillow between my legs. The one I have is something like this
    http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3190422

So you can undo the band and use as a regular head pillow or keep banded and just use between your legs. I do it that way, since I move so much in my sleep, easier to move from side to side with it just between my legs.

I think that I read that the baby doesn't become regular with movement until 28 weeks. Then you are suppose to count and watch for less movement. I know that she flips, since at the ultrasound on Tuesday her head is on my other side and higher towards my ribs from the last one where she was heads down. I just didn't know if they flip on their sides or not. But I guess it makes since. I think you are right, they are born face down.

@adira: I've been braxton hicks. It only has happened maybe 3 times (noticeably) so far, but I can sure tell they're bh. I'll be sitting at my computer, or watching tv and feel it come on. Every time DH has been home and panics more than me, lol. The three I felt, I had to really breathe through and work out, so he's all like "whoa, what's happening?" Than I say I'm ok and go on with life with him still looking at me weird, lol.

This is his first baby, so even though I'm a veteran and know what to expect, it's interesting for me to see him see things for the first time.

@cokiezombie: I've been getting heartburn when I eat certain things...like chocolate It's my worst cause of heartburn and it makes me sad cause I love it, lol. For me, I burp a lot and it burns a little when I burp, in my chest and throat. It happens when Baby Girl is WAY high, too, which happens more than I'd like, lol. She tends to like to be either all the way up or all the way to the right, lol.

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Thanks for the link! I think I'll have to look into getting one. I mean, sometimes I can sleep okay, but other times not. And I often end up on my back because that's just how I'm used to sleeping. I also find when I sleep on my sides, one of my arms falls asleep. So annoying.

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: You could try just a plain body pillow as well. They are much cheaper and can find at Target or Walmart.

  23. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@adira: I take a comforter or blanket and roll it up. then I wind it between my legs and under my belly when I lay on my side. When I do this, my hips don't hurt as bad the next day. I'm finding that sleeping without waking up sore has become an art form!

@Smurfette: I have the Snoogle and thought it was really hard for me to get used to sleeping on my side in the beginning, I now have to take that big ol pillow w/me even when we go out of town on weekends!
@cokiezombie: ugh! That sucks! Good flats or sneakers should still work for a while! At least that's my hope & thinking! I dont even want to size up for fear of letting my feet grow bigger! They are already big for my size & height!

Hi everyone! I hope that everyone is having a nice weekend so far.

In terms of cribs, we are using the Sundvik from Ikea. We are also using an Ikea dresser, the Hemnes, for our dresser/changing table. We also have a bunch of Expedit bookshelves with the two-drawer inserts in the room for extra storage. The baby won't get his own closet, so we are going to try to fold everything possible.

I also love the Snoogle! I was worried that it wouldn't be worth the money, but it helps me sleep so much better. Like shopaholic, I now take it on vacations!

I think that I have completed my diaper stash now, thanks to some Black Friday sales. We have 10 BumGenius Freetimes, 7 BumGenius 4.0s, and 1 Rumparooz AIO. We also have 6 Flip covers, 12 infant pre-folds, 12 regular pre-folds, and 3 hemp insert doublers. I love all of the colors!

Here are some photos of our nursery in progress and the diapers!

@mole: Wow! Good job on the nursery! Where is your glider or rocker chair from?
Niiice on the CD stash! I'm tempted to get a few just because they're so darn cute! But my FIL is one of those "extreme couponers" and has promised to keep us stocked with diapers so everyone is against me CDing.
And re: the Snoogle - I'm still bitter about how much the darn thing cost and I even had to buy the jersey cover for another $25 b/c once I started depending on using it, the original cover was so scratchy on my face. But I have to use it now every night.

  28. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@shopaholic: Thanks! It's the Shay glider and ottoman in the desmond seafoam fabric from Room and Board. It's incredibly comfortable! I really like your dresser, by the way. Great find!

That's so great that your FIL is going to help with the diapers. It's blowing my mind how all of these little costs here and there add up! We'll probably pick up some disposables to use when on vacation etc -- and potentially in the first week home. (We will also be doing a newborn cloth rental as well, wanting to save some money instead of buying diapers that might only last a couple of weeks.)

I think my main issue with the snoogle is how darn difficult it is to get the cover back on after washing it. I should have paid for one of those zip-on covers! But yeah, it's definitely worth it on a per use basis. Otherwise, I just toss and turn all night.

@mole: that looks great so far! Although it makes me realize how much we have left to do!! We ordered our glider yesterday and won't be in for 8-12 weeks. Still on the hunt for a crib.

@mole: Such a cute diaper stash! I love seeing all the adorable fluff.

My stash is about 75% done. So far I have 6 BG Freetimes, 6 BG 4.0's, 6 GroVia AIO one-size, and I'm planning on buying another 6 of either the freetimes or the elementals.

For newborn I have 6 GroVia AIO newborns, 6 BG AIO newborns, and I'll be buying 6 Lil'Joey's and the G-diapers newborn bundle. I think.

@Adira: at least your room is empty! Mine is a hot mess right right. DH has a file of clothes to take to goodwill and now all the Christmas gifts till I get them wrapped. So we have added stuff instead of emptying it out!!

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: hahaha, yeah, all my Christmas stuff normally would be in that room too, but now it's just sitting on our dining table making a mess!

I had a dream the day after I finished cleaning out the nursery that my husband decided to take it upon himself to clean our office, and he ended up moving everything from the office into the nursery! I was sooooooo mad!!! And woke up so relieved to find the office still a mess and the nursery still empty, haha.

@Adira: I had a dream the Sat night that I had her her. She had a ton of hair (which I am totally hoping for) but was the size of a 3 month old and had ALL of her teeth. It was so bizarre. Also, I am home sick today and had to run to Target to get more medicine and tissues, and I got some Reese's Christmas trees and it was so good

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh!! What a strange dream! I had a dream that I had our baby too, except in all my dreams, our baby is a girl even though I know we're having a boy. She was a newborn, but about the size of a one year old! She was HUGE! And for some reason, we were staying at my parents' house and everything was set up in the bathroom to be the nursery, even though nothing fit. And I couldn't find diapers!! It was so messed up.

And thanks for the reminder to look for Christmas Tree Reese's!!! I totally forgot those were coming out!!
