March 2013 Mommas!

@adira: If you don't have them Monday, call. I'm probably just super paranoid from my experience, but my mom also has said about medical tests that no news isn't always good news. It's just no news. It's good to keep calling and get the results.

@shopaholic: Are you sure you can't leave? The lab techs just told me to make sure I was back 5-10 minutes prior to my each blood draws, so I was able to wander around. I even had my OB appointment in the middle of it.

  3. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: Yeah, my OB said they won't call if I passed, but I am able to access my test results on-line, so I'll be able to check if I haven't heard anything!

  4. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: nope. They don't want me to burn off and use any of the glucose from any kind of activity. Just chillin' in a room & checking HB on my phone.

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Oh, I guess that makes sense! They didn't really tell me that for mine. They just suggested I stay in the building. I sat in the waiting room and read a book when I wasn't at my OB appointment.

  6. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@adira: that's nice you can check online! I hate having to call people, lol.

@shopaholic: I could leave for mine, but there's nothing around my birth center worth going to, and they have a nice library there, so I just sat and read in there for my first test I had at 16 weeks. I'll probably do the same this time around.

@Adira: Soooo hungry now! Or it could be my tummy is just rumbling for all of Kaitlyn's kicking! Got another 1 1/2 hr to go...tick tock tick tock

  8. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Yeah, I was pretty hungry in the beginning, but it passed for me after an hour or so and didn't bother me that much. It was nice when I was finally finished though and able to go to Dunks! I got the Big N' Toasted, haha.

  9. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: IDK what either of those are. Where do u live again? It's almost 11am here and I won't be able to eat until after 12:30 at this rate. Del Taco is the closest thing though... hehehe

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Oh, hahaha, sorry! I live in New England. I went to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast and had their Big 'N Toasted, which is a thick breakfast sandwich with two eggs and bacon and cheese on fried bread. It was DELICIOUS.

  11. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: That's what I thought! Though no one calls it Dunks here and I didn't know they had sandwiches.
Did u keep burping up the drink during your wait? Blech. Sorry im totally blasting this thread.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: hahahaha, no, I don't remember burping it up that much! I mean, definitely a few times, but not a ton. That's funny you keep burping! But it's better than vomiting or fainting!

A quick update - we decided to admit me to the perinatal unit, for convenience mostly, and so that the docs can monitor the anti-anxiety meds. I am feeling so much better and finally getting some sleep! Can't wait to go home though thanks for your good wishes!

@aprk: I was JUST thinking about you! So glad you've finally gotten some sleep and are feeling better!! That's great news!! Hopefully you continue to feel good and get some sleep once you're home!

Another quick update - all positive!!

Going home tomorrow, probably around lunchtime assuming the orders go through on a timely basis. I slept great last night again, and asked them to check the baby's heartbeat later today. Mostly because I want to hear it - they see no reason to think he would be having any problems.

The dr said in no uncertain circumstances that this is purely hormones related to pregnancy and nothing that sounds off any alarms for anything more serious. They recommend I stay on zoloft (which is a super low dose ... panic disorders usually require 150 mg and I am on 50 mg at night) for six months to get through the post partum period. I asked to get set up with a counselor just to check in with on a regular basis, which, in my opinion, is never a bad idea.

Hope you all are doing well. And remember, there's no shame in asking for help, whatever our issues are.

@aprk: What a great update!!! So glad you're FINALLY getting some sleep and feeling better!!! I know that being sleep deprived makes everything seem so much more stressful than it might seem on a good night's sleep, so it's definitely great you've been getting some zzzz's. Hopefully you'll be able to continue having good night's sleep once you're home!

@aprk: I am so glad that you got some sleep and meds to help you keep sleeping. Great news! You are so right, there is no shame in asking for help. I think we all need that reminder at times.

@Adira: looking great!! I love that pink color.

    @aprk: Great update!
@Adira: What a cute bump! And hurray for the 3rd trimester! I can't believe that we are already there.

We start our birth classes today, and I am really excited. There are going to be 5 couples total in the group, and we meet for the next 7 weeks. In other news, baby has been super active the past 5 days, kicking (hard) and flipping and squirming. What an odd feeling!

We found a crib and dresser this weekend. At a local store. Decided on espresso instead of the white. I also found a crib skirt that is exactly what I have been looking for. I can special order it, without having to buy a whole set. So glad, since we aren't going to use bumpers. DH didn't want to buy it this weekend, since they said it is only 4-6 weeks till it comes in, but I think that I convinced him to go ahead to buy this coming weekend. I don't want to risk it being late or something.

What is everyone else doing about bumpers?

  27. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

    @adira: Cute bump!

My mother in law works at Goodwill, and this week she had a coupon to share with me for 30% off my whole purchase. So, we went baby shopping, and I got TONS of clothes, new with tags, for Baby Girl and her big brother! I guess Target donates a lot of their clearance items to Goodwill, so I got a lot of great stuff, maybe 30 pieces, and spent only $30. I got lots of great brand name, new or almost new stuff. It was so exciting! I love shopping for this girl!

Even though I feel her move, I see her move, and she makes me quite uncomfortable, it's still SO surreal that I'm actually having a baby girl! I've always wanted a little sister for my son, but after I divorced his dad, I didn't even try to think about maybe having another kid. I had no idea where my life was headed! So, it's so crazy that after all these years I have this chance to have the little girl I wanted. It's great! I love that my husband is so excited about it, too. it all is just falling into place so well. Love it!

@Smurfette: Congrats on finding a crib and dresser you like!! We also have decided not to use bumpers, although if I ever do decide to use them, I'll buy the breathable kind (that won't match our bedding). I ordered my crib set from Pottery Barn and it came in a set that included sheet, quilt, and skirt, NO bumper. And I would order your stuff now - it doesn't hurt to have stuff early!

@katiew92081: Wow, congrats on all the clothes for such great prices!!! That's awesome!!! We still haven't bought any clothes for our baby, but I figure I'll get a bunch at the shower, so I'm just going to wait for now. Although if I had an opportunity to get such great deals, I'd definitely jump on it!

So my poor mom is trying to plan my shower and Hubs family (specifically his step-mom) is causing so much DRAMA!!! My mom talked to both my MIL and SMIL (step-MIL) and asked them if they were available Jan 20th or 27th for my shower. MIL said she was free on the 20th and not the 27th, and SMIL said she wasn't free at all in January. So my mom decided to go with the 20th to make sure MIL could go since SMIL wouldn't be able to go anyway. My mom finds a restaurant and calls up half of my family to make sure they are free that date (my family is half the invites), and then she tells MIL and SMIL that we've decided to hold it on the 20th, and sorry to SMIL that she won't be able to make it. SMIL originally is all "Yeah, I figured, hope it's fun!" and then she comes back and says she can change her travel plans in order to be back for the 27th if we change it to that day. My mom responds that MIL can't make it that day because of some other event. SMIL then says that MIL is mistaken and that the event she is referring to isn't on the 27th. So my mom talks to MIL about moving the shower date to the 27th so SMIL can make it, and MIL agrees. But THEN SMIL tells my mom "Oh, nevermind, don't do that. MIL and I don't get along and it would make everyone uncomfortable if we have to spend time together, so it's probably better if I just don't go. Don't change the date." My mom is all "WTF" and says "MIL says she's free on the 27th and I know Adira would love to have you both there if you can also make it then?" SMIL tells my mom "No no, don't move the date, I've decided that FIL and I will do something separate for Adira instead. Keep your original date." So my mom has decided to keep the 20th date, but now we're worried that SMIL is going to plan her own little shower for me with FIL's side of the family. Ugh, FAMILY!

@adira: That's crazy, but it sounds as if you don't want them both there together, anyhow. And, two showers is no big deal...just if she plans it freakishly for the same as your mom's, tell her that's no good. I had 3 showers for my son, one with my family, one with my ex's family, and the church threw me one. This time I only have one, but we don't need as much, and everyone lives in the same area.

Don't you love how people love to make your events about them? lol

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I agree, earlier the better. I know by like 36 weeks, I am not going to want to do much of anything. Plus you never know what could come up and something could delay the furniture.

Sorry there is so much drama around your shower! Your Mom has to be so frustrated!! But on the plus side, you could have 2 showers!

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: That is awesome you got such great deals. I am trying to hold off on clothes right now, cause I know we are going to get a lot at showers. It is so hard, girl clothes are so cute. I want to buy the clothes and everyone else buys the actual stuff we need. If only it worked out that way!

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: haha, yes, family is nuts!!! I really wouldn't mind multiple showers, except that my mom is renting out a restaurant's function room and has to pay for a minimum number of people, so if SMIL invites half the people to go to whatever she's planning, my mom may end up having less people than she's paying for come to my shower, which would be unfair for her. I'm hoping SMIL isn't planning on doing something like that, but I just don't know what she's thinking!!

My mom was actually saying it would probably be pretty entertaining if MIL and SMIL both came to my shower and got into a fight, haha. Since they're Hubs family, we'd just sit back and watch them, hahaha. I'm so mean... it's probably good if they just don't have to see each other!

I need to be better at remembering pants and accessories. I know that people will buy me clothes, but not as much of the other stuff. Once Christmas is over, I'm planning on stalking more online stores for neat little accessories.

@adira: My mother isn't as cool as yours, lol. She'd be doing everything to not have a scene, cause she's the type that needs everything to be perfect, lol. She'd be mortified is a fight broke out at her party, lol.

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: Well, my mom would definitely be mortified if the scene was caused by HER family, but if it was caused but my husband's family, she wouldn't care as much, haha. She definitely cares what other people think of her and by extension her family, but she'd be a lot less embarrassed by other people not related to her getting into a fight!

Ooooh, maybe I SHOULD do some shopping for the baby after Christmas! After Christmas sales could be a great time to buy clothes and other items!

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: @katiew92081: I am hoping for some after christmas sales too. I am only allowing myself to buy things on clearance/major sale until after my showers.

@katiew92081: I need to buy hair bows and stuff. I ordered some socks on zulily, they should get here this week.

@adira: Yep, and there will be MLK and President Days sales coming up early in the year.

Is anyone NOT planning on taking a birth class? Hubs and I weren't going to take one because I figure I'm a total wuss and am going to get an epidural anyway, and I'm afraid that birth class will be information overload and totally stress me out.

We ARE taking a CPR and Caring for your Newborn class though. CPR class is this Friday!!

  39. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: We are going to take one. Since it talks about pre-labor signs and what really happens in the labor room. Yeah I can read on HB and get advice from friends, but one reason I want to take it is for DH. That way he knows what to expect. I have a friend who is a nurse practitioner for an OB/GYN and used to deliver babies. She didn't take a class but she said that she wished she did, so her husband knew more what to expect when she was in labor.

And I am totally a wimp too. I will asking for the drugs as soon as I can. But you never know what is going to happen with labor. I could go fast and not have time for the epidural. Or have bad luck like 2 of my friends, and theirs didn't work, so they still felt everything.

We are going to sign up for CPR class as well. Let me know it goes. Did you get your glucose test results?

@Adira: We're doing a homestudy course, but that's only because I'm a doula and already very informed about childbirth, as is my DH.
I think it's important to take them no matter what your birth plan is, because it helps you know what to expect through the process, side-effects of different drugs, how to know when you're in labor, and also lets your husband get a clearer understanding of the process.
