@Smurfette: I think if the birthing class was cheaper, I would definitely take it, but it's this all day event on a Saturday and costs $110. Which I know isn't that bad, but still... I think my husband really wouldn't want to take it. Maybe I'll ask him to see if he wants to and if he does, I will. I don't think he does though.
I'll definitely let you ladies know how our CPR class goes! I think it actually is going to cover MORE than just Infant CPR - I heard it was a CPR certification course, so there's probably more than we need, but it should be good.
And no, I'm STILL waiting on my glucose test results! I'm hoping I find out today, but I don't really know how long it takes them! My OB made it sound like it was a quick turn-around, but maybe that's when the lab isn't busy and it was PACKED on Friday when I was there, so maybe it'll take longer to get the results.
@shopaholic: How'd your test go?? Have you received your results yet?
@mole: You had your 3-hour test on Friday too, right? How did that go? Do you know when you'll get your results?

@Adira: The one at our hospital is $100 or they offer a more one one class at the OB office for $175. I think that are going to take that one. It is just one night during the week and I like there are no more then 6 couples, verses way more at the hospital class.

@arden: What home study course are you working on? That might be a good idea for my husband and I.
@adira: We're not taking a childbirth class, just cause my husband's schedule doesn't leave much room for it. I've done it before, but husband hasn't, so I've been telling him as much as possible (without trying to scare him, lol). I'm sure we'll be ok.
honeydew / 7589 posts
@katiew92081: Well I'm currently deciding between Hypnobabies and Blissborn. Both are childbirth hypnosis programs, so they may not be for everyone. There may be other (non hypnosis) homestudy childbirth programs out there, I just haven't looked into them.
I'd at least recommend buying "The Birth Partner" for husbands to read, it's a very useful book.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@arden: I took a hypnobabies class with my first. I enjoyed it, and took a lot from it, but I didn't totally immerse myself in it. I just pulled out what I liked and let it work for me.
My husband hates reading books, lol. So I pretty much just need to tell him stuff. I've downloaded an app on his iphone that he's good about reading, so that's helping a lot.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: My husband is the same way - hates to read! If I bought him a book, there's no way he would read it. I have to tell him anything that I want him to know!! Luckily we have a couple friends who have kids who have been giving him advice, so that's helpful!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: Yeah, he's got guys at work that he talks to once in a while about that stuff. Luckily, they're all supportive and cool, so he's getting lots of encouragement that way.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: No, not yet, but since I finished my GT after noon o Friday, I'm sure I will get the call from my OB's office today towards the end of their day. I'm not too worried though because I also have an appt. on Thurs. so they might just save it till then to tell me if there is nothing wrong. No news = good news right?
I can't go back and see who wrote what on the previous page but RE: the Crib Bumper. Nope. I don't think we'll be using any, though I do have a cute one (non-matching anything) that might get pulled out for pictures or when she gets older. I DID buy a breathable mesh crib bumper at Target on clearance one day though. I had already registered for it but it was on sale for like 1/3 of the normal price! I think it's pretty ugly though, but our crib has spindles and I wouldn't want her little arms and legs to get stick in them.
RE: The birthing classes. Yes, I've read it's basically the most helpful for the Dads-to-Be to take the classes so they know what to expect. Obviously, most dads are not online researching/reading and chatting with others like we do on HB. I know my DH definitely doesn't have the time for it, so we are taking the 2 day crash course in Feb. It's kind of pushing it (3 weeks before DD) but Dr. said it's fine if we don't make it to the class, she'll coach us through it. Our 2-day course is $135.
We still haven't figured out a time/schedule for Baby CPR & the Breastfeeding classes. I know DH isn't too thrilled about going to those... his actual reaction was "I have to go learn how to breast-feed?!?!" I tried to explain to him the statistics of how fathers who are informed and supportive about BF enable better BF results and longevity. But so far I am also dragging on signing up for those classes because I don't necessarily want to take those at the hospital and haven't figured out where I want to take them yet.

@Smurfette: Yay on your crib and dresser! It was my plan to assemble the crib this past weekend, but we were SO busy, never got around to it! And OMG about the socks and Zulily! I have SOOO many pairs of Trumpette socks, cute lil socks, and BabyLegs now thanks to Zulily and BabySteals! I literally had to stop myself from buying anymore!
@katiew92081: That's really cool about your Goodwill! I think GW's in SoCal kind of suck in general. Even though my sister and I like to "thrift" GW's here are always the most expensive and overpriced stuff! And super picked through. Like everything is ratty and old! I tried to check a GW a few weeks ago and there were literally like 6 pieces of baby & kids clothes combined! And things were still like $5/pc! Definitely no "gems" like you found! I think it's just a SoCal thing though. My sister has luck though quite often at a Catholic Church Thrift Shop she'll go in once a week. She just gave me a bag of stuff she bought this weekend, and I especially love the vintage hand-knit stuff she finds there!
@Adira: OMG on the SMIL baby shower drama! Yikes! Well, hopefully everything goes well for your mom's shower and if SMIL does do something for you, I say call it a win-win! No drama at your main shower, and more prezzies for you!

@shopaholic: How do you always find all these deals? You are always posting about the deals you found. I am jealous! A friend lent me her breathable bumper, so if we use one that is what we will use. I just hate that it is so hard to buy a crib skirt without a whole set. Glad we found one I love and can order just the skirt.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: LOL! Because I'm a bargain heat-seeking-missle! hahah! No, seriously, I think it's because I'm very particular and research what I want (literally I had a spreadsheet of what I wanted to register for and would edit it) way before we even announced the pregnancy. I constantly shop (obv.) and keep my eyes on the sales & clearance racks. I also shop in advance and don't mind holding or saving things until they need to be used. So i.e. the crib bumper, I found that probably 4 months ago. I also save receipts and not scared to go get price adjustments or return things if I've changed my mind.
The crib skirt has been a tough one for me, but so far I have asked my auntie to copy and make this one for me. I'm thinking she might send it to me in January after she sees my Grandma (and saves on shipping costs). If not, I'm just going to order a crib skirt from PBK.

@shopaholic: I was thinking about getting that one too! But I really want the curtains, so I figured that would be too much ruffles. But I am going to order the pink curtains from potterybarn the first of the year.

@Adira: I just found out this morning that I passed the 3 hour test with flying colors! I think that my high numbers for the 1 hour test might have just been a fluke. My reading one hour after the 50g glucose drink on Wednesday was 20 points *higher* than my reading one hour after the 100g glucose drink on Friday!
Of course, I spent all weekend worrying about the results. I didn't even let myself go down the ice cream aisle at the grocery store. Haha.
Re: Childbirth class. Ours is actually 8 sessions long, 2.25-2.5 hours per session, taught by a doula in her home. The classes are capped at 12 people; we have 10 in ours. The course covers everything from nutrition during pregnancy to various labor techniques to breastfeeding. (There are also reunions organized a couple months afterwards so all of the couples can get together again with the new babies.) It's pretty expensive ($325), but we think it's going to be worth it. Last night was really interesting -- and it ended with the dads-to-be practicing giving us a short, relaxing massage.
We are also going to be doing a child safety and CPR class at our hospital in early January. We might take a breastfeeding class as well, but we aren't sure yet.
Re: bumpers. We aren't buying them either. My mom is actually making us a skirt for the crib to match our curtains. Our sheets will just be white.

@mole: Congratulations on passing!!! What awesome news!!! And I agree that it sounds like your 1 hour test was totally a fluke! So glad you are able to put that worry behind you and move on!!

@Smurfette: I KNOW! The curtains are SUPER cute too! I was looking at them in-store last week and so tempted, but our window is kind of small, so I think I need a simpler curtain. I think it's so cute in pink! You have the beige walls right?
@mole: CONGRATS on passing your GT! And I hope my child-birth class teaches DH how to give me a massage! Or more so, instructs him that he has to do so! lol!
UPDATE: I just registered for all 3 classes right now! Childbirthing, Baby Saver (CPR), and Breast Feeding! I feel a good sigh of relief because I had been dragging my feet on those. Poor DH though. He has A LOT of work ahead of him in the next couple of months prepping to take a 2 week leave when baby comes + he just found out he has to complete like 30 hrs of C.E. by January for his license renewal. As it is, he already works such crazy hours!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@mole: Great news that you passed it!!
@shopaholic: The walls are a more of light brown color, so I think the pink curtains will look good. If not I will get the white ones. I just love the ruffles!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Congrats on registering for your classes!!! I know it felt like a huge weight off my shoulders once I registered and had them scheduled! Now to actually TAKE them!
Yikes for your DH! That sucks he has to do 30 hours of C.E.! Does he have to finish by the end of January, or does he really only have a couple weeks in December to get it all done??
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: Either way, sounds lovely!
@Adira: Thanks! I know and the actually taking the classes part I'm dreading. DH has until like Jan. 28th or something to finish. blech! sucks for him!

@shopaholic: wow! All infant clothes at the GWs around here are $1.99 a piece and kids clothes are $2.79...no matter what it is. That's crazy you find stuff for $5 there! You might as well go to a regular store at that point!

The other night I was on my bed, lounging on my side, hanging out with my husband and playing with my cat with a string. The cat did something cute that made me chuckle, and at the same time I sat up to grab at the string and the MOST. INTENSE. Ligament pain happened. I had to brace myself on the wall for a few seconds while I felt like my groin was completely tearing. After the pain subsided I got really dizzy and felt faint. I sat down on the bed and asked my husband for water (who was ready to run me to the hospital) and the blood pressure cuff. 84-47. LOW. So, I sat calmly and breathed, and a minute or so went by, I passed gas, and then tested my pressure again. 116/64. Better. I have low blood pressure, normally, so that is more like it for me. A few minutes later, I felt the baby move, and she's moving as I type this, so I know she's ok.
I've been fine since then, but now my ligaments feel even more loose. Has anyone had a prenatal massage before? I have a gift card for a spa, and I'm thinking of getting a mothers-to-be massage. I'm hoping it will relieve some of these ligament issues.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@katiew92081: Ouch! I haven't had a prenatal massage but I told DH that is what I wanted for Christmas. And I am planning on asking for another one for my bday in Feb. I am having a lot of lower back pain.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Oh yikes!!! Sorry to hear that happened to you! That sounds so unpleasant. I haven't had a prenatal massage before, but it definitely sounds like a good idea!
@Smurfette: OMG, good idea asking for a massage for Christmas!! I've been wracking my brain trying to think of something that Hubs could get me and this never even occurred to me but it would be PERFECT! My back hurts all the time and I'd LOVE a massage!
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: Ouch! Sounds really painful! I haven't done a pre-nat massage yet, though I've been meaning to schedule one! Got a GC for my birthday from my BFF and I've kind of been saving it till I'm a little further along. And yeah on the GW prices. It's so crazy, sometimes you see the same thing for instance at Target and it's cheaper their on sale than at a GW or thrift shop around here.

We're off on our babymoon to Waikiki in a few days. EEEEK! Can't wait! We've been to Honolulu a few times already and looking for "new" places to explore. If you guys have any suggestions, pls throw it out!
PS: What kind of beachwear do you think is appropriate for pregnant women?
bananas / 9973 posts
@cokiezombie: Yay! I LOVE Hawaii! I mean seriously, love Hawaii! We got married there and we go every year.
Personally, I say if you are confident enough, rock the bikini! If not, I love the side ruched tankini or one-pieces with the ruffle skirt. Juicy & Target always have them! When we did our Babymoon (Kauai) I wasn't showing enough to really want to wear a one-piece or tankini, so I just wore my regular bikinis.
What kind of places/things do you want to "explore" in Honolulu? Food? Places?
Definitely I recommend going to Leonard's for Malasadas and I have a whole bunch of other food places we love!
ETA: My fave bump pics from our Babymoon in a bikiini.

@cokiezombie: I say if you are comfortable in a bikini, rock it!!! I am jealous of your babymoon! I really want to go to Hawaii one day.

@shopaholic: you too amazing!!! i tried on my bikinis last night, and sadly i was busting at the top (i went from a A cup to a C cup).. guess that means I need to purchase a new set!

Glad that I called about the childbirth class offered at the OB's office. They have none in January, so we are booked for the Feb 6th class. Since the March ones are right around when I am due. Now DH just better not be traveling that week!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, I know what you mean! I had to find a different childcare class than I originally intended because the January one was booked and the February one was in late February - too close to my due date! I didn't realize how quickly those classes fill up!
watermelon / 14206 posts
I've been pretty much tired all my pregnancy, but today I feel just wiped out. I didn't even do anything! Plus, I've had some nausea. Ugh. There's some days that I'm just over being pregnant, lol.

@Smurfette: Glad you were able to pencil in some classes! DH has Kaiser (I have Aetna) and we're able to register at some free Kaiser classes with his membership. Yesterday I signed up for the 4-week Preparing for Childbirth Class ($75 for members) and a free course in "Late Pregnancy" in January. I also plan on signing up for the breastfeeding and newborn care class.

@Adira: @cokiezombie: Awww...you girls are too nice! Actually, the boost in bust size is a nice touch for me! Actually helped "fill out" my bikinis more you know!
@Smurfette: Glad you got your class booked! We are doing them around that time too!
@katiew92081: Awww....I feel for you hun! I totally felt that way Sunday, where you just feel totally wiped out!

We assembled our crib last night! Now I'm a little stumped on what to do for sheets (besides a plain white), but I'm so happy with the crib in there, it's starting to really feel like 3rd trimester! I checked on The Bump last night and can't believe we're only 88 days away from our due date! I think December and January are going to fly by so fast!
