March 2013 Mommas!

@Adira: Well, hopefully, if they don't want to do 2 showers in a row, they'll come to yours because you are family! Yeah, I've never been "regular" so actually since I've switched brands with my pre-natal vitamins, I've been more regular than ever before (but this gas/constipation pain is too much today!) In first tri, the Dr. told me to take Metamucil and it helped when I would remember. I eat a lot of veggies too, but I think too much fiber in pregnancy is no good too!

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Yeah, there's definitely a fine line on the fiber train, and I can tell when I hit it because I have normal bowel movements, haha. But most days, I'm a miss and have issues! I was never super regular either before pregnancy, but THIS is super unpleasant! At least there's only... 11 weeks to go... lol

@Adira: I have been taking the Target fiber gummies and they are helping somewhat. Always helps when I eat more veggies. I was pretty regular before, so not being regular is super uncomfortable. But I do think the vitamins are helping some.

It sounds like everyone has such great updates! I'm at 29w2d today, and I am starting to get some pain in my lower back. On the other hand, though, baby boy has been incredibly active, which is such an interesting feeling. Overall, the latter sensation is worth the former discomfort.

All of this talk of showers is making me realize how close we are all getting to our due dates! We haven't nailed down a date yet for our second shower, but it will probably be at the end of January or the very beginning of February. I'm just hoping we don't play that "Guess the Circumference" game again. Haha.

@shopaholic: One of my midwives recommended drinking mint tea (bagged and/or with fresh mint leaves) to help with digestive issues!

Hi ladies! So sorry I havent been around much (although i have been reading- just not posting) So glad to hear everyone is doing so well!
I got a save the date for my shower (Feb. 2nd) and I cant believe we are almost to that time already!
Went to the Dr. this am and everything is going great with my my little man! He is right on track sizewise and that makes me happy. I have only gained 11 lbs so far- so all the work I am doing trying to stay active and eating well is paying off (i was overweight to start so I can only gain 11-20lbs) Having my second glucose test in a couple weeks and not looking forward to it.... they only have the orange flavor drink and its just gross! Hopefully everything comes back normal again!

Hope you are all doing well! and enjoying our last holiday season without a LO! (I am pretty excited we get to be SANTA next year!!!!)

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cheert16: Oh my gosh, I'm so impressed with your weight gain!!! Good for you!!! I was also overweight to begin with and supposed to only gain 20-25 lbs, but I'm already at 22, so I don't think I'll be able to keep it under 25. You're doing AWESOME though!! And glad to hear everything's going well with you and the baby! I hope your glucose test goes smoothly!

@mole: I have been having lower back pain for weeks. Some days are better then others. I think that it all depends on how I sleep. All I know is DH better have gotten me a prenatal massage for Christmas like I asked. Otherwise I am just going to go.

@cheert16: Impressed with your weight gain. And jealous. I am scared to see mine tomorrow. I have been eating WAY too many sweets lately. I am so excited to play Santa next year. I keep looking at all the cute Christmas outfits and imaging how cute she will be in them next year.

I have my glucose test tomorrow. Fingers crossed I pass!

Baby girl never stops moving. I think she's gonna be one of those babies who wiggle even in their sleep! She's always been really up high, but now that she's getting bigger, she's all up in my ribs. She pushes on my diaphragm, so breathing is really uncomfortable. I've been googling ways to convince her to go with gravity, lol.

@mole: I hate the "guess the circumference" game with a passion! I've already told both my mom and MIL that game is not going to be played at my shower.

  9. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: Fingers crossed she drops soon.

Does anyone else worry their baby isn't moving enough? Some days she moves a ton more then other. I guess I thought that at this point I would feel her move all day and night. Going to ask the doctor tomorrow. I am such a worry wart.

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mole: @Smurfette: My lower back has been hurting as well! I think it's how I sit at work (or maybe the fact that I just sit all day at work). I notice that it usually gets better over the weekend, and then Monday after work, it's hurting again. Hubs is getting me a prenatal massage for Christmas, so I'm hoping that helps!

@Smurfette: I had the same worry as you! Until JUST recently, baby really wasn't moving all that much at all. I'd really only notice him a couple times a day, usually after I ate something, and he'd only move for a few minutes and then stop. It wasn't until about 28 weeks 5 days that he actually started to be more active. Now I notice him every few hours. You're a couple weeks behind me, so I'm thinking you're experiencing the same thing I did. Hopefully baby girl will start moving more often in the next couple weeks!

@mole: Thanks for the mint tea suggestion! I definitely don't want to play the "guess the circumference" game. Thanks for the reminder, I will tell my sister to make sure we don't have that at the shower!

As for the lower back pain, IDK what to tell you, I've been suffering that all pregnancy since baby girl is always low, low, low and towards my back.

@cheert16: Yay for a great Dr. appt! I'm also super impressed with your weight gain! I'm so scared of the past week's progress, I'm definitely going to start watching my sweets and carbs intake (which is what I basically subsisted on 1st & 2nd tri.) And oh my gosh YES! I'm so excited to take LO to get Santa pics next year! Can you just imagine?!?!

@Smurfette: Good luck on your GT tomorrow!!! I worry if I don't feel movement and I've been "looking" for it. But she's pretty active, so I've only ever worried for a few hours. I'd definitely be paranoid and call my OB's office if I didn't feel her for 24 hrs though.

@katiew92081: Awww... hope she settles soon! You and I have the opposite problem!

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

Woo hoo! I passed the glucose test. Bring on the Christmas cookies. Said that it had to be below 135 and I was 92. The drink wasn't as bad as I thought that it was going to be at all. I was just super thirsty after, was so glad I had water in my car for the drive to work.

The doctor told me to not worry about not feeling her all day long. Said she is still so little, that as long as I feel her 3 different times a day, it is fine. So that made me feel better.

Mini Milestone: I finally felt baby girl HICCUPING for the first time this morning! It definitely didn't feel like kicks, like I thought (and was confused so I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago). It was rhythmic, like everyone said, and almost like a really fast little heartbeat. Not that strong feeling, but maybe that's because of the Anterior Placenta. Have you girls felt hiccups yet?

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: That is so exciting! I haven't yet, at least I don't think so, but I can't wait for it.

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yay, awesome news!!! Congratulations on passing! And also for the encouragement about baby movement! That makes me feel better too, haha.

@shopaholic: As far as I know, I haven't felt any hiccups. Although I can't always identify what I'm feeling. A couple times I've felt what feels like the baby kicking really quickly (but really gently) like 10-20 times in a row. Is that hiccuping? Or is that the baby just having a dance party?

  18. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

Had my 27 week appointment yesterday (appointments are every two weeks instead of every four from now on!) and got a date set for my glucose test - Dec. 31st.

I also found out I have gained 20 pounds!!! Eek. I think I need to cut out the juice. Even though it's 100% juice with no sugar added, it's a lot of calories with not a ton of nutrients, so I'm going to try to stop drinking that.
If I continue gaining a pound a week, I'll be +32 from PP weight, which is still within the range the midwives gave me. For my PP body type, I'm supposed to gain 25-35 ideally. I think it's gonna be more like 30-40. Oh well.

  19. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Arden: Actually on one of my apps yesterday it said that you will have probably gained about 20lbs at this point! So you are probably still on track! As for the juice, I always do this anyways, but maybe you can dilute it with 50% juice, 50% water. I've preferred it that way all my life, but I've seen it as a diet tip quite a few times too.

@Adira: Sounds like hiccups! They are pretty close together in timing so I know they aren't kicks and a lot more gentle, that's why I think it's almost like a heartbeat.

  20. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Arden: Are you the one that was writing a lot in the post about RRL tea? When and how much did you start taking? I'm headed out to WFs to buy some today!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Arden: I am up 24 lbs, so at least you are doing better then me! I love orange juice but hardly drink it, even PP, since I feel like it is just empty calories. And I would rather be able to eat more

  22. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@shopaholic: Yes that was me on the RRL tea. I got it in capsule form because I dislike drinking tea, and I take one 450mg capsule a day. If you look on the tea box is should tell you how many much is in a cup of tea so you can base it on that.
It's normal for it to give you a few braxton hicks when you take it, but if you have a ton of them or they are painful, reduce your dose.

I'll continue at this dosage until 37 weeks, then I'll increase it. When I go into labor I'll drink a ton of the concentrated tea, even though I don't like it, since it works faster in the tea form than in the capsule form.

  23. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@arden: My test is the same day. Last appointment, I had gained 5 pounds, after the initial loss off 11 lbs. But, this month really feels huge, so I have no idea where I'm at with it! 20 lbs isn't so bad, though...when you give birth, almost 30 pounds goes out with the baby, fluids and placenta, so you're doing good.

@shopaholic: No hiccups, yet. I've felt everything else, including witnessing my belly take on a crazy shape yesterday, lol. My son didn't get them, as far as I could tell, so I don't really know what to look for, really, lol. If I feel something like yours, I guess I'll know!

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Arden: I'm up 22 lbs and I'm not supposed to go over 25! So you're definitely doing better than I am!

@shopaholic: Ooooh, thanks! I guess they ARE hiccups! I've only noticed them a couple times, but they're kind of fun!

  25. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Arden: Oh! I will ask for capsules at WFs because I'd prefer to take it in that form too! Thanks!

  26. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@shopaholic: I have the Nature's Way brand which was a bottle of 100 capsules (450 mg) for I think $5.95? Which will last me three months, so all the way up until labor when I'll start drinking the tea.

  27. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Arden: I got the same one at Whole Foods! But sheesh! The mark-up is crazy here I guess! $9.99 for the same bottle of 100 capsules (450mg). So you are just taking 1/day? When you start increasing, are you going to increase the capsules or add on the tea? I guess we still have a while to go anyways for that. I just want a fast and easy delivery! Don't we all!

Today marks a new pregnancy side effect for me - swollen feet!! I have to go into the office tomorrow for the first time in months, and I'm worried my shoes won't fit, lol.

Hey everyone! Today I had another midwife appointment; they keep getting shorter and shorter. We were probably in the office for only 10 minutes. The midwife felt that the baby is head down (and then taught us how to feel for the difference between the baby's head and butt at this point). His heartbeat is in the low 140s. Everything looks great!

In other great news, my husband just got a huge promotion and raise! He deserved it, and I am so proud of him.

What's everyone doing for the holidays? On Sunday, we are driving 5.5 hours to visit my in-laws. We'll probably stay with them for four nights before coming home.

  30. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@shopaholic: Yeah I take one a day now. I'll probably start increasing the dose when I get to 37 weeks, although I have to talk to my midwife to decide how much to increase it by. If I don't deliver by my due date, I'll probably increase again.

  31. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@mole: Cool! How DO you tell the difference between the head and the butt? Congrats on your husband's promotion and raise! Such nice news for the holidays!

We are attending a few parties this weekend and been having dinner with friends this week. I'm making dinner tomorrow for my family at our house before everyone goes in different directions.

@Arden: Ok! Just took my first pill half an hour ago and baby girl is bladder kicking away!

    * I went to my first pre-natal massage today. My BFF gave me a spa certificate and it was nice, but not as relaxing as a normal massage for sure. You have to lay on your side to get to your back, and when she was kneading my back, I was basically tense and clutching onto the bed for dear life trying not to roll off the edge! The second side was better because I positioned myself better, and it definitely was nice to work out some knots, but nothing like the days when I'd pass out on a massage table!

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mole: Oh my gosh, congratulations to your husband!!! That's awesome!!! And I'm jealous that your OB showed you how to tell the difference between head and butt - my OB hasn't done anything like that. I've HEARD the difference is that if you press on the head, they don't really react, but if you press on the butt, they'll move. Is that true? Or is there more of a difference than that?

We have pretty busy holiday plans. Hubs' parents are divorced so we have to hit up three sets of parents during the holidays. We're driving 2 hours to see his Mom this weekend (Saturday into Sunday), then 1.5 hours to see his Dad on Christmas, and then the following weekend we'll see my parents (1 hour away). It's going to be busy! I'm just dreading Hubs family groping my belly...

@shopaholic: Bummer your massage wasn't as relaxing as you had hoped!!! Hubs is getting me a gift certificate to have one for Christmas and I'm looking forward to it because my back has been bothering me, but your story is making me think it will probably be a similar situation! Oh well.

  33. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@mole: congrats to your husband! What great timing! It sure is great contrast to the people I hear about getting laid off right before the holidays.

@shopaholic: That's interesting on the prenatal massage. Do you think you'll go again, knowing what to expect? I've been thinking about going. Do you feel any benefit to it afterwards?

So, I've been tracking my sugars more closely, being the end of the 2nd trimester (when GD usually sets in) and things have been good. But, last night I had my first spike, although it was after eating a sub sandwich (lots of bread!) and some lemonade. It was still pretty high this morning, so now I'm really gonna watch it. My official test isn't until the 31st, but I'm glad to have the heads up if failing is in the cards. It's discouraging to see the high numbers, but I'm oh so thankful that I've been watching them myself. It's much easier to keep myself in check when I have the heads up. My only fear is risking out of the birth center. As long as I stay on top of my diet and exercise, I should be good, but they risk women out easily, just to be cautious.

So, lots of water, lots of housework (great mild exercise!) coming up in the next 3 weeks. Good thing my nesting instinct is kicking in, cause that gives me the motivation to clean the place from top to bottom anyways. Plus, I am taking the progesterone already, which is supposed to help keep the amniotic sac strong so that I don't have another PROM.

@aprk: I am not looking forward to this. One thing that makes me wish I was pregnant in the summer, flip flops!

@mole: How do you know the difference? My doc didn't even check her position, guessing cause I know that she can still move in there. I wish I could figure out myself where she is. That is SO awesome about your DH. Great timing with a baby on the way!!

@shopaholic: I can't wait to have a massage. If DH doesn't buy it for me for Christmas, I am booking one. My lower back is really hurting these days.

We are heading to my parents on Sunday. They only live 45 mins away. Mom, sister and I are going for our Christmas pedicure and manicure. Then Christmas Eve we will help them clean the house, as the whole family comes over after church for dinner and gifts. Then Christmas day after presents and breakfast, we will drive 4 hours south to DH's family. I just hope their are gas stations open, cause my bladder can't go too long these days. We will come back on the 27th, and then have a Christmas together that night with friends.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Jealous of your ladies for the potential warmer weather in March! I'm in New England and so it will be freezing and there will be tons of snow in March, almost guaranteed! But so far I haven't notice any swollen extremities (knock on wood), and I have some comfy fake-Uggs that I think I will be able to wear regardless. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

  38. shopaholic

@aprk: I've definitely noticed my calves have grown since my boots fit tighter.

@katiew92081: @Smurfette: Oh! I have family in N. Carolina and Atlanta too! Such nice places! Yeah, I can still wear flip flops out in SoCal, but last night we actually had a Frost Advisory and it was 45 degrees when we left our friend's house. For me, that's downright freezing!

@katiew92081: @Smurfette: Yes, even though it wasn't like a Deep Tissue that I prefer, I will still go get at least one more prenatal massage before LO arrives. I still have some credit on my GC left and I had some pinched nerve yesterday that they were able to work out and loosen. I guess it was still pretty deep because my back is kind of sore this morning (but also, I'm having a terrible time sleeping on my sides these days, so I get all contorted). I was definitely dreaming of leaving DH with the baby during his time off so I could go get a face down kind of massage after L&D! Might be just a fantasy though... haha.

  39. mole

@shopaholic: @Adira: @Smurfette: Apparently the butt and the head can feel pretty similar at this point; however, if you gently grab one part and rock, you can distinguish between them. If you rock the head, only the head will sway. If you rock the butt, the entire rest of the body will move.

Thanks for all of the congrats! I need to take out my husband sometime this weekend to celebrate. I might also pick him up a card later today.

@mole: ohmygosh! I can't even imagine "grabbing" at her yet! I poke around and was just so happy the day I could tell it was her foot! But maybe it's still too hard to "grab" with an anterior placenta. But good to know!
