@aprk: That is great you got practical things. I hate long drives like that. Hope it goes by fast. We have a 4 hour drive tomorrow, which I am sure will turn into 5 hours thanks to my bathroom breaks. Hopefully our friends don't get annoyed with me!

@aprk: That's awesome that you got some practical items!!! Congrats!!!

Oh my gosh girls, my mom gave me an invite she did for my shower! She's sending them out tomorrow! I'm soooooo excited!!! And I LOVE that she found an invite design with elephants since I'm so into them, haha.

@adira: That's cute! My mom and MIL and still talking to me about how they need to get together and plan something, lol. We'll see if it happens, lol.

Tomorrow is glucose test day! My sugars have been good since that one spike, but I've been playing it super careful (even throughout Christmas!).

I hadn't gotten anything for the baby for Christmas until yesterday, when we did our Christmas with my parents and brothers. (Well, one brother...the other lives in PA, and we were just opening the gifts from his family.) Both brothers and my parents bought some gifts for Baby Girl, which I though were nice.

I'm finding that I have plenty of 0-3 month onesies. I have a good amount of pants, but NO sleepers. I'm gonna go buy a bunch of sleepers and then try to tell people to buy bigger now, cause I have very few 6-9 and only 2 items for 9-12 months. I have a bunch of 12m+, though, which I'm not too worried about, since it's in the way distant future, lol. At least she'll be well dressed when she's first born. Hopefully I can convince people to buy bigger clothes!

@katiew92081: Ooooh, good luck tomorrow!! I'm sure you'll do fine though!

That's exciting you got some gifts for the baby for Christmas!!! The baby's not even here yet and I think getting gifts for him is even better than getting gifts for myself! Maybe you can tell your mom to spread the word that you need clothes for 6+ months and beyond, and hopefully you don't get a ton of clothes for months you already have!

@Adira: That is adorable!!!! I agree I had more fun getting baby Christmas gifts this year too.

@katiew92081: I know what you mean, everything we have gotten is newborn or 0-3. Have nothing bigger except a couple 3-6 that I bought.

I went shopping at Target yesterday and found that they had a whole aisle of the gerber clothes and hats on clearance. I guess they're switching over for a new season. So, I picked up some hats and a few 6-9 month onesies. I also got her a 0-3 sleeper. Now that Christmas is over, I can focus on buying for just one (itty bitty) person!

We're planning on buying the carseat, soon. We're looking at a Recaro ProRide or a Diono. I think it'll come down to the best deal when it's time to order. What are you guys looking at? We're not doing the baby basket. I had one with my son, and it was just too heavy for me. Sure, it's convenient to take places, but I'll just carry her or use a sling this time. Those baby carseats are just so heavy!

  8. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: We bought the Safety 1st Comfy Carry Elite Plus infant car seat, which does have the carrier and base, so probably not what you're looking for. I wanted to get something like that though because I want to be able to put the baby in the car seat and let them fall asleep and not have to move them when going to and from the car. But I admit to having no experience to what's better, haha.

@katiew92081: We are borrowing an infant carrier and two bases from a friend. Her son only used it for 4 months last year. I think it is the Graco Snugfit. Not my ideal colors but it is free so it will work.

@katiew92081: If you don't get bigger clothes, hopefully they are mostly from Target or Carters (both w/good return policies) and you can exchange for bigger sizes. Congrats on passing your GT!

As for the car seat, we've registered for the Maxi-Cosi Mico to go with the UBV stroller. I'll wait until after our showers to buy it if. we don't receive it as a gift. It's a little pricey but I picked that one because it was one of the lightest and smaller looking carseats. I have Carpal/Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and tendonitis so lifting the heavy things and baby already worries me. If I can, I want to try and babywear, but I also wouldn't want to wake a sleeping baby moving her out of the carseat if I can help it.

So what are my March Mommas up to tonight? This will be the first year since I've been with DH that we dont have plans for anything. I know he is super bummed as we are party kind of people. On top of that im sick with a sore throat and pretty sure it will turn into full blown bronchitis and tonsillitis if I dont stop it somehow! 2012 I had bronchitis and tonsillitis soooo much and couldnt take any meds because of the pregnancies.

@shopaholic: Feel better! No fun being sick on a holiday! Hopefully this will be your last round with it.

We're going to dinner with my in-laws, but then coming home. My son and I got some of those confetti poppers and surprise crackers for tonight, but I'm about to take bets on facebook on how long he'll actually stay up. I'm gonna let him go as long as he can, but I know that once a certain hour hits, he's telling me he's going to bed, lol. Just like me with that.

    @shopaholic: feel better!!

We are in Asheville with friends. So dinner out and then to some bar. I told them I need a nap if they expect me to stay up till 1 or so and be the DD. Getting old being the one that isn't drinking when everyone else is. Hopefully heartburn isn't as bad tonight as it was yesterday.

I am having horrible back pains while sleeping. Hoping it is just the hotel bed and ai get over it when we get home.

Happy New Year's Eve! I'm way behind on this thread, so forgive me if I missed anything.

@Adira: Cute shower invitations! I love the elephants.

@katiew92081: We are doing the Graco Snugride 22. We're both fairly tall, and we heard that taller babies outgrow the height restriction well before the weight limit. As such, we went with the lightest option. We also decided to go with a Graco model because we are borrowing a Snugrider to use as a stroller. Eventually, we might buy something fancier (and more expensive) but we wanted to see what our actual stroller needs are first.

Congrats on passing your glucose test!

@shopaholic: We are having a low-key day: lunch out, visit to the Getty, errands. Tonight, we are going to a party hosted by one of our friends. We'll see how late I can make it!

Time is going by so quickly! I only have 9 more weeks to go. We have our maternity/anniversary photos next weekend, so I am trying to figure out what to wear. I'll probably wear a fitted dress and then change into jeans, tank top, and a striped cardigan. Anyone else have photos coming up?

  19. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

Thanks Ladies! I tried to sleep in as late as I could today, but man, with this baby, I can never sleep through the hunger! She gets REALLY active when I'm hungry!

@mole: Yes, I hear that about the height thing a lot too. The Getty sounds really nice! I've been wanting to go to the Getty Villa for years, but DH absolutely hates driving anywhere near the Westside. Eek! Are you excited! I've been thinking/looking for things to wear for our maternity shoot and baby showers too. I wish it were warmer so I could just wear a pretty sun dress. We haven't set the date in stone yet, but I'm aiming for last weekend in Jan. for our pictures.

And YES, if you hang everything (like I did), including sleepers and gowns, it looks like a lot! But people fail to realize you probably have stuff in all different sizes for the first year! It's not like an adult! P.S. I spy some really CUTE boys stuff!

@shopaholic: yes, exactly! I did the same thing, and his closet goes up to at least 9 months in that picture. The stripes and polka dotted stuff are my favs.

ETA the bunting was on sale from Land of Nod.

@mole: we aren't doing maternity pics. I would rather save money for newborn. Might just have a friend take some. We didn't do engagement pictures either.

@aprk: Love that bunting! Lots of clothes!

Ladies, we bought a house!!!! As long as inspection goes good and finalize financing we close Feb 1st!! Will be paining her room before we move in. So excited and freaked out. Fingers crossed we find a renter for our condo fast.

We got back to the hotel around 5 and I went to take a nap, but my stomach is thinking otherwise. Feel like I am going to throw up and been in the bathroom. Not sure what is up:( feel awful, like I am ruining DH New Years. I told him to go out with our friends but he said no. Nothing being stuck in a hotel when you don't feel good.

Aww...sorry you are not feeling well. I'm not doing so hot either, but been working on some of my nursery projects and I just want to keep going since I'm on a roll. I know, DH said it will be his first NYE he hasn't gone out to party since he can ever remember!

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE March Mommas!

@aprk: Looks like you have some cute stuff in there!
@shopaholic: We went to the Villa today to catch the Pompeii exhibit before it ends. We live on the Westside, so it's not a big deal for us to make the drive. If I ever have to go east, though, boy do I grumble! Haha.
I am getting excited about the photos! We have been so lazy documenting the pregnancy up until this point, so it will be nice to have some photos to look back on.
    @Smurfette: Congrats on the house!
I think that we would be less likely to do pics if this didn't correspond with our first anniversary! Our wedding was the only time we've had professional photos taken, so it will be nice to have some great shots where we aren't in a gown or suit.
Anyway, I am sorry that you aren't feeling well! I hope you feel better soon.

    Happy New Year!

How is everyone's partners dealing with the pregnancy? Now that the holidays are over and my husband and son went to my midwife appointment with me yesterday, a switch seems to have gone off with my husband. He's helped me clear out boxes of stuff to donate in our room (that have been there for months) today and he's been scouring craigslist for a nice dresser and other interesting baby gear. He's always been into it, but I think reality is settling in and he's getting in gear, finally!

@Smurfette: Congratulations on the house!!! That's so exciting!!!

@katiew92081: I'm not sure it's totally hit my husband yet, but we're starting to paint the nursery next weekend, so I'm betting that's when it will really start to feel real for him!

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: DH said to me the other day, sh*t is about to get real. We seem to always take on so much at one time. Now with moving we can do too much for baby until we get moved. We have the furniture already. Glider is in, we just have to pick it up. But it definitely starting to feel real to both of us! I need to pick out a color for the nursery and find a rug since the house has all hardwoods.

@mole: Nice! I think I vaguely heard about that exhibit.
@katiew92081: Well, he's involved, but really doesn't care about a lot of things that I do, like the reviews of every single item, etc. He just lets me do my thing. But he helped me assemble the crib and go pick up the dresser & night-stand. We've signed up for all the classes around his schedule and he's been to all my u/s appts. except for one (work).

Happy New Year Ladies! It's finally 2013: The Year of our Babies!

Our shower invites were sent out before Christmas and these are some of my sister's pictures of them. I just LOVE it! The shower will be a "star" theme! I started getting Amazon alerts yesterday about items being purchased! It actually feels really weird to know what who bought for us already! IDK, feels kind of awkward, even though I registered for them. I also think it's funny that people want to verbally R.S.V.P. with me, when I'm not the one throwing my own shower! Anyone else experience this yet?

I'm hoping to finish a few of these items on my To Do List in the next week and half:
    - Find dresses/outfits for our baby showers & maternity photo shoot.
    - Find hostess gifts for the showers.
    - Finalize maternity photo-shoot date/photographer.
    - Finish night-stand (and hopefully, the dresser) painting.
    - Set up interviews and finalize pediatrician.
    - Check out 2 Montessori pre-schools and put our names on the wait-list (it averages about 2+ years in our neighborhood).
    - Try to order breast-pump via insurance provider.

How are you ladies doing with your to-do lists?

    Hi everybody! Happy New Year!
I've been out for nearly a week with a really killer case of the flu (quite possibly the worst week of my life), but I'm feeling better today and I'm another year older. I had a birthday while I was sick...

@Adira: Your invitations are so cute!

@aprk: Love the bunting! I want to do bunting when we move and set up an actual nursery. I think I'm going to do mine in sparkly gold.

@katiew92081: Yay on passing your glucose test! I was supposed to have mine on NYE, but I had the flu so bad I couldn't go, so it was postponed to the 10th. Ugh...

@shopaholic: I LOVE, seriously LOVE, your invites. So stinkin' adorable! I wish I had friends close by to throw me a shower - mine will likely be thrown by the elderly church ladies, and will most certainly look like something out of the 80's.
My sister is talking about doing a special long-distance shower for me though, so we'll see.
I think I'll throw my own "Meet the Baby" where I can be in charge of the cuteness! lol

@Smurfette: I'm sorry you got sick! I sure hope it isn't as bad as whatever I had... I felt like going to the hospital and asking them to knock me out for the next week. Vomiting, splitting headache, stuffiness, cough (that KILLS my round ligament every time I cough)... it was awful. I was so weak that my husband literally had to help me to the bathroom, and then I passed out in the shower (luckily I was sitting down already). SO glad that it's over. Well, I still have a cough and stuffiness, but the worst is over.

Regarding SO's - my DH has been super excited from the beginning, but it's definitely hitting us that this baby is coming SOON!
We spent the whole Christmas vacation week cooking up tons of food to freeze for postpartum (we made stuffed shells, enchiladas, stir-fry mixes, 6 different soups, twice-baked potatoes, quiche, veggie burgers, and a few casseroles.

How is everyone doing on collecting baby gear? I'm placing my first BIG amazon order this next week, mostly stuff I doubt we'll get as gifts (pump, breast pads, diaper cream, thermometer, nosefrieda, diaper detergent, postpartum gear for me, etc), and then I'll do another big one in February after the shower.
I still have so much stuff to get. I don't have any of the big gear yet (we almost bought the snugamonkey rock n play today, but we're hoping it will go on sale), but I'll probably wait until after the shower to buy it.

@shopaholic: I LOVE those invitations! My to-do list is too long. And now I can't really get anything done since we will be moving. Finalizing day care is the #1 thing I have to do this month.

@Arden: Sorry that you were so sick! Glad to hear that you are feeling better now. Happy Belated Birthday! I am waiting till after my two showers this month and the move before we buy anything else for baby. We got some stuff for Christmas and a friend gave me a bag of clothes from her daughter. Although I think most are summer and she won't fit in them by then. At least we have the big stuff, crib and dresser, and just have to go pick up the glider. Hoping we get the rock n play and pack n play both for shower gifts cause we will need those both at the beginning.

@shopaholic: Oh my gosh, your invites are sooooo cute!!! My mom just sent my invites out this week, so people probably haven't started RSVPing yet. I hope people don't RSVP to me though - that would be a little weird, especially because my invites have both a phone number and an e-mail address to RSVP to!

Gahhh, I hadn't even thought about a shower hostess gift!!! What is everyone else doing???

@Arden: Oh no!!! Sorry you were sick! Hope you're feeling better! And Happy Birthday!!! I also had a birthday in the past week, so go us!

As far as gear, we currently have infant car seat (grandparents gave us money to purchase it), swing and bouncer (SIL gave me hers), breast pump (also SIL's), crib & mattress (parents purchased), and rocking chair (Christmas present from parents). Other than that, we just have clothes. I'm going to wait until after our shower on the 20th to purchase anything else we need.

@Adira: My one shower is being hosted by 7 friends. Since none of them did hostess gifts, I am not either. I thought about doing a $10 Starbucks card but that is $70 and with buying a house, I am saving every penny I can. I am going to get my sister something for the family one. I think a couple of my aunts are helping her with decorations and food but she is doing the majority of it. I know she is on a tighter budget, so I want to do something for her. I will probably get her a necklace or something off etsy.

I just did my 1 hour glucose test this morning. The drink wasn't a bad as I expected. Can't wait for the results! I was also shocked to learn that I've only gained 22 lbs total. I figured it would have been more, especially after the holidays, so I'm happy with that.
