@Adira: Yeah, the BRU anonymous gift thing is really bugging me. Especially since it's SUCH an expensive gift ($168) and I need to hunt down who gave it to us to write a proper TY card!
@Mrs. Mousie: Ooh! That will be CUTE! My bridal shower was at a tea house and it was adorable.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. Mousie: I love to purge! My husband is a whole different story unfortunately.
@shopaholic: Exciting you are getting notification about gifts. That would drive me crazy not knowing who sent one. I got a gift yesterday with no information but the girl texted me to say that she sent it and ordered through amazon instead of our registry. So at least I know who it is from. And she told me that I only got half, something else is coming today. Baby stuff is just so fun to get!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
I was bad and just checked our registries. Only two things have been bought. I really hope that people are going shopping this weekend before the shower next weekend.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: OMG - you just got me to check MY registry and things are being purchased!!! Someone even bought our Pack N' Play!!! I'm sooooooo excited now!!! I'm guessing these are purchases by people who won't be attending the shower though. I've heard most people don't actually buy anything until the week before the shower! So I bet a lot of people do their shopping this weekend (and throughout the week) for your shower!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I am jealous! Now that we will be in a house, we really need our pack n play for the living room.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Hopefully someone will purchase it for you! I suspect ours was purchased by Hubs' Dad & Step-Mom who won't be able to attend our shower but who mentioned they wanted to be able to get us something nice.
Where are you registered? I know with BRU, you get a 20% coupon (I think) that you can use to get stuff off your registry - that will help you get any items you didn't get but still need for a little cheaper!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Babies R Us and BuyBuyBaby. I heard that both do the 20% off to complete, but I wonder when you get the coupon?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I don't know about BuyBuyBaby, but I think with BRU you get the coupon 2 weeks before your due date. I'm thinking that after my shower, I'll just update my due date to earlier so I can get the coupon earlier though. I've heard of other people doing that, and I definitely want to get whatever we still need before only two weeks out!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: @Adira: Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about the registry stalking yet. We have a lot of out-of-state family & friends so I'm pretty sure that's where most of the gifts that are getting bought are coming from. We got one the other day from my cousin who is in D.C. and for sure can't come to the shower, etc.
Speaking of not being able to come to the shower, how's this for a totally random baby gift - DH's uncle & aunt gave us a SCARF and said it was for the baby shower since they couldn't make it. DH wanted to wait and open the gift at the shower but I told him just to open it. And it was a black and grey pashmina kind of scarf thing like his aunt and mom wear! Glad we didn't open that at the shower. lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Ummm... WTF - how is that a baby shower gift??? I mean that's nice that they sent you something, but a scarf???
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: A scarf as a baby gift. I don't get people sometimes. We should see who gets the most random gift. So far yours is going to be hard to beat!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: @Smurfette: lol! Seriously *rolls eyes* we have had some aunts & uncles (blood & parents' friends) that give some "interesting" gifts over the years. We even got an old faded restaurant gift certificate for our wedding before. All the printing and writing had been smeared off and faded from the envelope!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: OMG, that's ridiculous!!! Some people are nuts! I'm hoping the scarf is the last useless gift you get for the baby!

this was Sunday at 29 weeks. We went in the big tree at the Biltmore to take some pictures. It was freezing!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: You look fantastic!!! I love that picture!!!
Oh my gosh girls, I just had my 32 week appointment (I'm 31 weeks 4 days) and I'm such a fatty!!! I've already gained 27 lbs according to their scale and I was SUPPOSED to keep the weight gain under 25 lbs!!! UGH!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: You are not a fatty!!! I would bet you money that when I go on the 16th I will be right there with you or higher. The holidays certainly didn't help us out. Plus every one reacts to pregnancy differently. As long as baby is healthy that is all that matters.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, thank you! The doctor didn't say anything about my weight gain, so I guess they aren't concerned about it, even though I've gained more than I'm supposed to. It did convince me to go out and buy a prenatal workout DVD though and I just did my first workout!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Mine hasn't said anything either. So I am not going to worry about it. They said 25-35, so I am hoping to be right around the 35, fingers crossed. I figure even if I gain 40 I did better then most of my friends. They all seemed to gain 50 with their first pregnancies.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: That's true! I'm hoping to stay under 35 now that I'm already over my 25 lb limit. And I'll still do better than a lot of people I know, so that's my goal. It'll just be more weight I have to lose later, but oh well - as long as we have healthy babies, right??
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: @Smurfette: You both look GREAT ladies! Your Dr. would tell you if you needed to be concerned. I know one girl her Dr. actually put her on a diet and told her to LOSE weight around month 7! And I do know people who gained like 50lbs! Everyone is different. But I know it's easier to encourage others and scary when it's yourself! Good job Adira on working out! I still haven't busted my DVDs open yet.

Our March Mommas board was so quiet today!
It got too cold once the sun started going down for me to continue working on my painting projects, so I started researching and tackling "The Hospital Bags" tonight!
Going to pack one for DH and Baby separately too, but so far just putting everything in one bag for now...
I've started a little pile of things that need to be washed now too before I can put them in the hospital bag: newborn sleepers (which I actually only have a couple of so far), mittens, and nursing sleep bras so far. I guess I will need to wash the Boppy cover and some blankets too. I guess I was in a bit of a "nesting" mood tonight!
P.S. Anyone else having rib pain? I've been feeling like baby girl must be under the right side of my rib cage this whole week. It seems so hard and uncomfortable when I'm sitting. Not like her legs or any body part I can feel, but maybe an organ that's now in the way? IDK what it is but it sure makes it hard to breathe or bend even slightly on the right side! Sometimes I wish we could see inside like an x-ray slide of what's going on in there!
Hope you girls have a good weekend!

@shopaholic: I've felt kicks and stuff in my ribs for several weeks, now. This girl loves to stay high up and restrict my breathing and whack at my ribs.
I haven't even started my hospital bag, yet. But, I need to talk with my midwife about what I should bring. Since I'm giving birth at a birth center, there's no overnight stay. But, I will need to shower and eat afterwards, so I need to prepare something for the freezer and pack some toiletries. I have a green onesie and hat for in case baby is born on St. Patrick's Day (we're real Irish folks here, lol), but I haven't figured out what else to pack her. I'll probably wait til after my shower and decide then. She probably won't get a bath at the birth center, so it can't be too pretty, lol.
This morning my husband was cuddling with my belly and put his ear to it. He said he could hear her swishing about, lol. She kicked him in the ear a couple times, lol. I was jealous cause I couldn't hear what he was hearing, lol
I have another strange predicament, lol...Easter bunny comes soon after baby is born, and my son keeps talking about how great it is that his sister will be able to get a basket, too. SO...since babies can't have candy, what sort of thing do you think should go into a newborn's Easter basket? Also, has anyone seen any good sites for newborn easter dresses that aren't too expensive? I don't mind spending more when she's older, but for a newborn, it doesn't seem worth it, lol. I may look through the dresses I've already hoarded and just pick one of those. She'll look pretty no matter what, I'm sure.

@shopaholic: I am not even going to think about a hospital bag till next month sometime. Probably after we move. I feel like I can't do baby prep till we get through the move. I am trying to not stress about it.
I agree with you on I just wish I knew where she was inside. I can't tell at all it is a kick or punch, so now clue where she is. I don't think I am carrying low or high, just in the middle. I feel kicks/punch more on the sides in the middle. She has been active this morning so far. Love it!
@katiew92081: Our last name is Irish and we are due on St Patrick's Day. So I will probably end up buying an outfit just in case. I will totally be the Mom that buys her something for every holiday. I have already thought about Easter too. Probably do a little basket with a toy, outfit, pacifier, etc. Probably will get a dress at Carters. I am assuming she will be here since Easter is two weeks after my due date. Hoping my doctor won't let me go more then a week past my due date.

@smurfette: We're so stuck in our ways that we do corned beef and cabbage every year on St. Patty's day. I'm really hoping she's NOT going to be born that day (I'm due the next), cause I don't want either a. She has to eat that every year on her birthday or b. we have to give up the tradition, lol. we're nerd about it, haha.
We're holiday people, too, and I know that I can't get away with not doing a holiday with her cause of her big brother, haha. He'll make sure she gets the full festivities, even if she has no idea what's going on.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@katiew92081: I love corn beef and cabbage. My Mom always made it too. DH is Irish and doesn't like it, not sure what is wrong with him!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@smurfette: My husband is German and loves it, lol. Course, we also enjoy gumbo on Mardi Gras, so it's probably more of a festive thing, lol. We make corned beef once in a while throughout the year, though. We eat cabbage at least weekly, since it's cheap and easy to boil up, lol.
My mom has always made it, like her mom did. We're also not allowed to wear red on St. Patty's day...it's the color of the North. My grandpa always hated people wearing red that day he said, "If you're not going to wear green, at least don't wear red!" haha....his parents came straight from Ireland, so I think he was allowed to have such strong opinions on it, lol.

@Smurfette: Cute picture!
@Adira: As everyone else has said, don't worry about your weight gain! If your doctor were worried, he/she would tell you!
People just gain differently and at different times and rates.
@shopaholic: Man, you are ahead of the game! That's great. I think that I will start packing a bag next month or so. I am waiting to do laundry for baby stuff until my last shipment of cloth diapers come, but then I imagine that I will have a full day's work ahead of me.
@katiew92081: Maybe you could put a stuffed rabbit in the basket? Or a Peter Rabbit board book?
I'm starting to get nervous about the influx of visitors we are going to have after the baby is born -- particularly because my dad and his wife booked a trip out here 11 days after my due date! Fingers crossed the baby isn't more than 10 days late. Haha. At least there will be plenty of people around to help.
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: That's the weird thing. The sport where it's hard and hurts is NOT where I feel any kicks or movement. It's just like something is wedged there! That's why I think it's an organ maybe.
That's so nice and fun about the St. Patrick's Day traditions and Easter, etc.! I would do a little soft basket for baby and put in a pacifier, a little link toy (that can go on stroller/carseat/or playmat), some cute socks, and maybe a little stuffed animal for her basket? I second Carter's for a little dress. They have a pretty good return policy even if you end up not using it by Easter!
@Smurfette: I think I'm still carrying low, but the wedge in my rib makes me confused. On top of that, I feel kicks or punches on both my left & right sides, never in the middle. So I tell DH, "she must be stretched out sideways in my belly!" It'd be nice to have a peek wouldn't it?
I hear you on the moving situation. I know I'm kind of early on thinking about that stuff, but I had nothing to do last night and was restless.
@mole: What kind of CD are you going with? We're not planning to CD since my FIL said he's going to buy all our diapers, but I wanted to have a few and try them out to see how much work it would be. I love the eco-friendly aspect, but it gets overwhelming looking at all the different brands and types and "stripping" and folding, etc.!
I think I have the opposite problem of not having anyone say they are going to come and help me out so far. Just a lot of questions of who is going to come and help me. Only my MIL has mentioned coming to help me for a couple of weeks, but even then, she's a social bee so I can't imagine her wanting to come stay with us for too long.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@shopaholic: Yeah, it's probably an organ. You probably would be really weirded out if you saw an xray of where all your internal organs are right now, lol.
I forgot, I have a cute little bunny dress I got for her before easter, off of Zullily, lol. It's 0-3 months, so even if it's a little loose, it'll be cute, still.
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: That's perfect about the dress! and LOL, yeah, I wouldn't have a clue what is what! I think there was a video I saw of the pregnancy progression and how all our organs move out of the way though! Maybe I can find it....

@shopaholic: I love that site. I check it all the time - it's the next best thing to actually seeing what's going on in our own bellies!
apricot / 373 posts
@shopaholic: We are doing a combination of different types. To start with, we will have 7 NB AIOs (6 BumGenius, 1 Swaddlebees), 1 pocket (Rumparooz), and 18-24 infant prefolds with covers (Thirsties Duo Wraps and Flips). Once the baby grows a bit, we have another 7 pockets (BG 4s), 11 AIOs (BG Freetimes, Swaddlebees), and 12 regular prefolds to throw in the mix. We have some hemp doublers for overnights. The prefolds will also do double duty as burp cloths.
I ended up buying almost everything on sale, used, or got free with promotions, so I feel pretty good about our investment! I just need to stop looking at all of the cute patterns. Ha.
Are your relatives nearby? My side of the family lives about 2k miles away, so I think the early planning is due to distance and having to book flights etc. I bet people will help more once you get closer!
bananas / 9973 posts
@mole: See...as soon as you start talking about all the different kinds of CD's I get overwhelmed! lol! But that's great about the deals and promos! I know DH keeps saying FIL will buy us diapers, but I am nervous that I don't have a stash of any kind of diapers started. I just don't want to be empty-handed when time comes!
Yeah, our parents are close by (my parents ~30-40 min. & his parents ~ 1-1.5hr depending on traffic).

@shopaholic: Ah, thanks for that site! I showed my husband and he's got a new appreciation for me, I think, lol.
Both sets of parents are less than a 20 minute drive away, so there's no avoiding them, lol. Both mothers are pouting about not being at the birth center with us, so I know they'll be kicking down the door once we get home, lol.
