March 2013 Mommas!

@mole: Oh my gosh, that's crazy your husband's best friend is going to be using the same name as you guys!!! But if he lives far away, I guess it doesn't really matter! And even if you were going to see each other all the time, I'd probably just stick with the names - who cares if they're the same!

  2. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@mole: That is nuts you both picked out the same name. Good thing they live far away. Did you DH tell them that your name was on the list?

  3. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Adira: That's our plan! Clearly, we both think it's a good name.
@Smurfette: Yes, so these friends are the only ones who know the name that we've picked! We knew that we should tell them sooner rather than later, just in case it affected their decision. It would have been unfair to make them wait until ~4 weeks before their due date to see what we did.

  4. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@mole: I would have told them just like you did. What did they say back?

  5. mole

    apricot / 373 posts

@Smurfette: Both my husband and his friend were texting back and forth that it wasn't going to be a big deal either way. (Honestly, I was only concerned about the wife's potential reaction, just in case it was important to her to pick a different name!)

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@mole: Glad that it sounds like it isn't a big deal to either sets of parents. I know I would feel guilty if they felt like they couldn't use their #1 name cause we used it 4 weeks earlier.

@mole: wow now I'm curious to know what you picked :)..will have to wait and see.

@mole: Wow, that's crazy! But, kinda cool...that's a neat thing to share with your best friend. They obviously think alike.

So I was at the gym changing into my workout clothes and I sneezed, and I totally peed on myself Granted I was holding it, been over an hour since I had left work. I was hoping to skip this part of pregnancy. Guess I need to step up my kegels......

Catching up!! Sorry I am so far behind!

@NaturallyCathy: That cake looks great! (and delicious right now....)
@Adira: Thanks for keeping track of the list! Cant believe so many ladies are full term... I am literally the last day of March (the 31st) so I feel like I am so far behind!
@shopaholic: Yikes! Not sure i can do that massage! (I am actuallty to scared to try!) But i LOVE your dresser and nursery!!
@Smurfette: My bras are starting to hurt! I cant wait to get some new ones cuz the uni boob of sports bras are not that nice to look at! I also am having a hard time with the peeing- I teach dance so I am constantly jumping around like a crazy person- if I have to cough or sneeze- its cross my legs and bend at the waist or I will go a bit! Even jumping in my classes is getting harder!
@mole: Ahhh! Cant believe you have the same name picked!! Glad that neither family is upset about the name! We havent chosen ours yet, we are stil torn between 2- but people are harassing us like crazy to find out our name!

So i am trying to get things for my hospital bag ready- what did you ladies do for nursing bras/tops/ tanks. Should I go out and buy some sort of bra now and hope that it still fits when the baby comes- or do I wait. I have to say I am not so nervous about the birthing part- but super nervous/ freaked out about the breast feeding. Also how many pairs of undies are you bringing to the hospital? I have 5 packed now (all black) but not sure if I will need more!

  12. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@cheert16: I'm bringing three pairs of my normal bikini black panties for during labor (I figure if I'm leaking amniotic fluid or anything I'll want to change them every once in awhile) and six pairs of "granny panties" for postpartum.

  13. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@cheert16: Awww! Such a cute belly. I like your sweater! It's so freaking hot down here that I'm in shorts in tanks all the time and still overheating.

  14. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@Smurfette: Aww, that sucks. It hasn't happened to me yet but I think it's only a matter of time...

@mole: That's wild! It probably won't matter in the long run though.

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@cheert16: You look great! That sweater looks really comfortable. My friend lent me some nursing bras, so I am going to use those till my milk comes in and figure out what size I need. Probably will pick up a tank, maybe two, at Target again till I know what all I need. I am going to pick up a pack of granny panties and probably will pack them all, just in case. Everyone says they give you those mesh panties and they are comfy. I am with you, super scared about breast feeding. I was asking my Aunt this weekend about her experience. She said she had no issues and since I have so much of that side of the families genes, she would bet money I won't have any issues. But who knows.
Can I also say that it makes me feel better that you are almost peeing on yourself too. I think. That is awesome you teach dance. I have a good friend that owns her own studio. So jealous she has a career she loves so much.

  16. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@mole: That's crazy about the name thing, but they might think it's fun when they get to meet up growing up - especially since you guys don't live near each other.

@Smurfette: Oh I've had that worry! I'm sure it will happen to me too soon enough! Kegels! Kegels!

@cheert16: Looking great mama! And thanks! Everyone has said NOT to get a nursing bra until after your milk comes in - which could take a couple of weeks. I have 2 sleeping nursing bras and just regular shelf camis and half-cami bras, which should be fine the first couple of weeks since I doubt I'll be leaving the house much anyways. I've packed some cheap throw-away panties for the hospital, but I've heard you should snag as many mesh undies free from the hospital as you can.

So my 36 week OB visit went fine! I had my Group B Strep test, which was just a vaginal swab - actually didn't even pay attention since the Doc and I were gabbing away the whole time! I also had my first Cervical Check, which wasn't as bad or uncomfortable as I expected. She said that the baby's head was LOW and my cervix is soft, but still closed. Expected to deliver near my EDD. I was worried about all the baby's movement lately - despite what all my apps say, she has NOT slowed down! It feels like whole body rotations, I call it "Transformers" from side to side! I was worried she might flip to breech, but the doc said her head feels very low so it's likely she's spinning , but won't flip! It literally feels like those massage chairs with her movements, but inside my stomach!
Glad to hear the cervix was soft at least. I'm kind of feeling like I'm not as close as some of you ladies with the leaking boobs already - who would think that's something to be jealous about! But I've got nothing leaking over here...
Oh - and on the cervical check, I know she told me I might have "some spotting" but I went through 3 pantyliners in a couple of hours! Just thought some of you might want to expect more spotting than I did because I was a little surprised!

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Thanks for the tip on the panty liner. I didn't even think about spotting from it. I will make sure to pack extra tomorrow, in case I need it at work through out the day.

Great news that she is head down and the doc doesn't think that she will flip. I know what you mean about movements. I don't think our baby is slowing down either. She was all over the place yesterday, even DH was like wow, when feeling a couple big movements last night. I wish I could see in there and see what all she is doing!

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@arden & @cheert: Hm...I packed only one pair of granny panties...not sure what I was thinking! I'm gonna add some more to my bag, lol.

    @cheert: Love the bump!

@smurfette: I've experienced cough-pee, sneeze-pee, laugh-pee and get kicked in the bladder by the baby-pee. I've about had it, lol.

@smurfette & @cheert: Confidence goes a LONG way with breastfeeding! Just know that you can do it, and you're already almost a pro. There are some REAL issues that crop up with some women, but most women really can do it, and after about a month or so it's so easy. Just hang in there for the first few weeks, and I promise it gets way better. It takes time and patience (and you'll lose plenty of sleep those first few weeks), but it's well worth it!

@shopaholic: Ha, I know what you mean about feeling like the massage chairs! The other day this girl made it a point to flip from left to right, and it just felt so weird! I'm glad your appointment went well! Leaking boobs mean nothing as far as labor and breastfeeding, so don't even worry. It's not even all that glamorous!

As for me: I'm sick again! This time coughing...mostly at night. During the day it's not so bad, cause I'm upright. Really wishing I had a recliner, cause I'm thinking it might be comfy to sleep in until this mess goes away.

It's really frustrating for me. I have always been proud of my rock hard immune system, but this year everything that ds has brought home from school has gotten to me. I guess that's the down side to being pregnant in the winter..it's cooler, but way more germs to contend with!

  20. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: That is what I have read, just hang in there. I am sure there are going to be many moments when I just break down crying. But I really want to BF so I know that I am going to just stick with it.

Sorry, that you are sick! Could you prop up enough pillows in bed, so it is almost like you are in a recliner? I have done that before and it does help. Feel better!! At least it is better to get sick now, then when you have a newborn to take care of and aren't sleeping much at all.

  21. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: Yeah, I'm gonna try the pillows tonight. Midwife also told me robitussin would be ok, so I'm gonna take that tonight, too.

I just get annoyed, cause when I'm not pregnant, I can usually take nyquil a couple nights to get through these things. Having to suffer is the pits, lol.

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: I hear you! I can take Nyquil and then usually better in a couple days. I was sick for two weeks after Thanksgiving. After a week of not sleeping and feeling better, one morning I woke up feeling worse, hardly slept that night, that I broke down sobbing to DH cause I was so tired, over being sick and worrying what it was doing to baby. I ended up calling in sick to work, cause I just didn't have the energy to make it through the day. I took Tylenol sinus during the day and it finally started to help me.

@Smurfette: haha, sorry about the pee incident! This has totally happened to me twice now, so you're not alone!

@cheert16: Woot! You're looking good!!! I didn't buy any bras yet, but I have two nursing tanks that I'll be taking with me, plus a couple of other nursing shirts. As for undies, I would think five would be enough - after you give birth, the hospital will give you stuff to wear I believe.

@shopaholic: Glad to hear your appointment went well! And don't worry - I don't really have leaky boobs either. Sometimes they seem kind of... shiny, but I don't think there's anything really coming out of them yet.

@katiew92081: Sorry to hear that you're sick again! I totally feel you with the NyQuil - I LOVE that stuff and was totally bummed when I couldn't take any when I was sick earlier in the pregnancy! Hope you feel better soon!

I had a rough night last night. I think I finally understand a little better what you guys feel when you have Braxton Hicks contractions but I have a feeling they were a warning for what's to come - and soon. It was around ten o'clock, DH and I were in bed about to go to sleep when it hit me. It reminded me of the contractions that were brought on last time by Pitocin. It began in a wave - a tightening in my chest like suddenly I wasn't breathing deeply enough; then tightening and pressure, sometimes pain, in my nether regions then moving up to my rib cage. Then it would work its way back down from the rib cage back down to my nether regions. This happened five or six times, with different levels of intensity but pretty unmistakable.

Of course, I was beginning to panic about the whole situation a little. There's so much going on in our lives right now, like the house, and I haven't finished a few last minute additions to my hospital bag or written up anything regarding taking care of Henry… So I convinced myself for a few minutes that my water had broken and we were in trouble. Needless to say, DH was understanding, calm and told me to call my mother. So I did. She and my dad talked me off the ledge but when I returned back to bed, after moving around and everything, I was still having contractions. DH told me to just follow their instructions - just relax. So I tried to relax (by this time it was nearly 11 o'clock) and went to sleep.

This morning, I'm feeling twinges. My hips feel like they're grinding against each other, my back is aching a little, I'm still getting phantom versions of last night's BH contractions. Something just feels off. Even the way the baby's moving feels different, like perhaps he/she dropped last night. I'm just… off. Something's different. I'm going to call my doctor's office in a little while and talk to a nurse, me thinks. DH told me to rest today and not to worry but its hard not to when it feels like something's not quite the way it was the day before. I hope I'm wrong and this LO sees March but right now, I'm seriously doubting it.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Oh wow, that sounds intense! Whatever you were feeling definitely sounds more intense than the Braxton-Hicks I experience. Mine are still just a tightening of the stomach and is semi-uncomfortable, but I definitely don't feel it come and go in waves or be anywhere near my vagina. But I have heard that BH do get more intense, so it's possible that's what you were feeling and not real contractions, but I don't know!

Definitely call your doctor's office and let us know what they say! I hope baby stays in there for a while longer, but it sounds like you're getting closer to the end! At least you're full term!!

  27. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: We learned in our L&D class that if you are having BH, drink 16ozs water and lay down on your side. They should stop/slow down. Maybe try that? If not then maybe something is about to happen.
I have a friend that had regular contractions for two weeks before she went into labor, so it could your body getting ready but doesn't mean the baby will be here soon.
Keep us posted on what the doctor says. Will be thinking about you!!!

@Smurfette: Good luck at your check tomorrow! Hopefully it's as painless as mine was!

@katiew92081: Definitely feels weird, but I admit I still get nervous when she doesn't move for awhile, so I don't mind even the very hard rolling moves she's been doing lately. SORRY to hear you are sick again! 2012 was a miserable Year of Bronchitis and Tonsillitis for me so I can understand. I had the flu, bronchitis, and tonsillitis for my first pregnancy (which ended in m/c) and basically my whole entire 1st trimester. I think I finally only ever got rid of all of that with the Flu Shot I got in the Fall. Glad they told you you could take some Robitussin. I tried to be med-free and it was wretched!

@NaturallyCathy: Hmmm.. I've been having BHs since ~20 weeks and even though they've gotten stronger and longer, they have never felt like how you described. I think those are REAL contractions! I would start timing and recording them (on a phone app if you have one) just for your own records and to go over with the doc if you need to.

As for me, I assembled our stroller and car seat adapter last night! So excited, they're just there in the living room, ready to go!
I'm going to install the car seat base in the car today and try to hang the curtain & curtain rod in the nursery.
Also working on a short and brief birth plan and questions for our childbirth class this weekend.

I feel bad, but I haven't given Valentine's Day ANY thought. I asked DH what we should do, and since I still don't have a great appetite or patience to sit in a restaurant these days, we'll probably end up grilling steaks at home tomorrow. And we haven't had sex in a couple of weeks because I've been a) really achy, or b) our schedules were just so busy. I feel bad since we only have these last few weeks "alone" so I'm going to have to try and muster up some energy and do something for tomorrow!

  30. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@naturallycathy: I've had a few of those this week, too. I understand about feeling"off". I was feeling like that last weekend, but the offness has subsided a bit, but I'm having a feeling that this baby isn't staying inside much longer. If she can make it through this weekend, I'll be ok with that! I know you were hoping yours would wait a bit longer, but if you have baby sooner, don't worry, it won't throw things off too bad. Just hang in there...let us know what the dr says!

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Gahhh, you're so prepared!!! I still haven't installed the car seat base though I've PROMISED myself that I would do it this Friday! I'm also having a couple girl friend's over next weekend and I told them they get to assemble gear for me, haha. So I'm going to have them put together the stroller and baby swing!

I hear you about the sex - we haven't had any in almost two weeks now and Hubs is definitely struggling. He keeps trying to be sexy and get me in the mood and I'm just like "Eh, my back hurts - will you give me a massage?" But, like you, I'm going to try to muster up some energy either tonight or tomorrow to do SOMETHING. I hate neglecting Hubs like this, especially when I know I'll be doing it a whole lot more as soon as the baby is here!

We're probably not doing anything huge for Valentine's Day, and my guess is we're not going to anything ON Valentine's Day. I'm hoping to go out to dinner (or lunch) on Saturday or Sunday though.

  32. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@shopaholic: @Smurfette: @Adira: @katiew92081: Well the nurse on the line asked me a bunch of questions and basically told me that unless I was experiencing x, y, and z then I should just take a few tylenol, do some stretches, drink plenty of water, and just relax/rest. In other words, no dice. Though the baby feels fine movement wise, it definitely feels as if it has shifted lower and I'm still not feeling overly confident.

It was a case of 'if you can sleep through them (which I did), and they're not regular in length or intensity, there's no bloody show (which there isn't), and you don't feel like you're leaking (nope, I remember what that felt like, but there is more pressure down there), then you're probably fine. If anything changes, give us a call. I'll forward these notes to your doctor, he'll call if he has any other suggestions.'

Gee thanks. I'm somewhat miserable and cranky because I'm miserable and you're telling me to suck it up.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Blah, sorry that nurse wasn't super sympathetic or helpful! I guess basically she's saying this isn't the real deal yet and you just need to wait? Maybe like @Smurfette suggested, drink a bunch of water and see if they subside? Hopefully they either let up or you just get this show on the road! Having to deal with being that uncomfortable for a couple weeks doesn't sound fun.

@Smurfette: my husband calls me tinkle pants. Glad he is enjoying making fun of me!
@katiew92081: ahhh confidence- its makes me so nervous! Hopfully the class I am taking this weekend will talk alot about breastfeeding so it will calm me down a bit!
@Adira: DH and I are doing the same for V-Day. I did go out at my lunch break and buy him a card and a small box of chocolates, so at least he knows I am thinking of him a little bit!
@NaturallyCathy: Hope you are ok!! Call the Dr. and let us know what happens!! Thinking about you today!

Ok ladies- maybe I am just dense and cant get my head around this- but most of you have nursing tanks- are you just going to wear those in the hospital with nothing underneath them? Or should i just buy a sleeping nursing bra? Or can I just wear a sports bra? I am confused... perhaps I should read the breast feeding book I got as a gift about 6 months ago.... ahhh. I have alot to do this weekend!

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cheert16: The couple nursing tanks I bought have the built in shelf, so I'm going to wear them without anything under it, and just wear my robe or a sweater over it so I'm not chilly but so that the girls are easy to get to. I didn't want to buy any bras until my milk comes in and I have a better idea of what size I am. I also bought some disposable nursing pads that I believe will stick to the inside of the shirt in order to protect both my nipples from the fabric and my shirt from any leaking. Hope that helps!

@Adira: That's nice if you can get your friends to come help you! Since I'm not working and last night DH went to a Lakers game, I have a lot of time at home by myself. So I decided to just work on the stroller and car seat last night!

Glad I'm not the only one neglecting sexy-time. Though honestly it's not because I refuse or anything. DHs work is so crazy and by the time he gets home it's just SO late!
I got him a card too, but I haven't thought of a gift and V-day is tomorrow! We have our Childbirth class on Sat. but I'm thinking maybe lunch & a walk along the beach and then a movie might be nice for Sunday.

@NaturallyCathy: Oh that sucks. I think based on these contractions though, you might be our first March Momma to go? So maybe all the uncomfortableness will be over sooner than later!

@cheert16: I will go get a nursing tank or two today - the kind with a shelf bra inside. I plan to just wear that under my robe or button-up-front pajamas. I hate being cold, and I figure it will give me some more modesty in case of visitors at the hospital.

  37. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Not sure when we are going to install the car seat base. I don't feel the need to do it now, even though we were told to install at 36 weeks, cause I know that it won't take long. Probably will do next weekend.

We are staying in tomorrow and grilling steaks. We aren't big into VDay so we just buy cards for each other. We just had sex on Sunday but I am hoping we do tomorrow night too. DH is so tired and stressed from work lately he never wants to during the week. I want to load up now, knowing we have a 6 week stretch of nadda coming.

We haven't put anything together yet. My brother and SIL gave us their swing that my nephews used. So I think that we are going to use that till we know if she likes it and then maybe buy a better one. We have a bouncer and rock n play that needs to be put together. I still need to buy a pack n play, so we have a changing table in the living room for a while.

@NaturallyCathy: Sorry you are so uncomfortable and the nurse wasn't more helpful. Try and relax, drink some water, and hopefully the symptoms will go away.

@cheert16: I am thinking I will just wear the nursing tanks in the hospital. I read old threads on the boards at lunch and everyone seemed to be really hot and sweaty after labor, so I am going to just bring a zip up sweatshirt in case I get cold. I don't have one yet, but I think they have a shelf so you don't have to wear a separate bra with them. I wouldn't think a sports bra would work cause it would be too tight and hard to keep lifting up every couple hours.

I just found out that DH has to travel to NYC next week and then week after now So baby girl really needs to stay in till March, which will be 38 weeks. He did tell work there is no way he can travel in March at least. But seriously, I am going to be so worried the whole time he is gone that something will happen while he is gone.

@Smurfette: @Adira: I'm doing better but there's an overall pressure still and everything doesn't feel quite right. Sometimes I get little contractions - I hope I don't have a two week wait with this much discomfort but still... holding out hope for March.

@shopaholic: I'm thinking I probably will be the first to go, which is great and not great. Great because it means I'll get to sleep on my stomach that much sooner (I miss sleeping on my stomach) but not great because the house hasn't closed yet... Closing date is still the 28th! I would rather move while pregnant and with a fussy one year old than with a new infant and a fussy one year old.
