March 2013 Mommas!

@Arden: @Smurfette: Thanks ladies! I think I will go with the rolling suitcase as well since I'll probably have other stuff that needs to be carried anyway and that will make it easier on both me and Hubs!

@Arden: Wow, what a weird conversation!!! Even if she didn't breastfeed, it's not like it's some foreign concept that no one has heard of before! How did she manage to get to this point without knowing about breastfeeding??? So strange!!

Gahh, I'm so indecisive! I just need to hang up some pictures in the nursery so I can finally call it complete and take pics so you ladies can see it and I just CAN'T figure out where I want to put things!!! Did any of you ladies put pictures above the crib? I can't decide if I want to or not. Given the location of my teal stripe (which is right above the crib), I feel like the pictures should go within the stripe to look the best - but I'm worried that they will then be too close to the crib and when the baby is able to pull himself up, he'll be able to pull the pictures down. I'm thinking I should avoid putting anything above the crib because of this, but then I'm wondering if that will look weird if I have pictures around the room and nothing above the crib. What do you girls think?

@arden: Wow, that's weird! Like she doesn't know anything about it? Even if you don't bf, most people at least know the basics of it, lol. Has she never seen a little of puppies?

@arden: Not sure what to say other then WOW!

@Adira: Can you post pictures of where you are thinking? I think hanging something over the crib is fine as long as they are out of reach and really secure in the wall. We haven't decided what we are doing over the crib yet. We bought a bookshelf today, thanks for the Target tip, but it will be next weekend before we have all the furniture in it's spot, so waiting till then to decide what to do about the walls.

@blackbird: Wow! You are right on the cusp! Wonder which month you'll actually give birth in!

@keepcalmcarrie: Sounds like you could be very well allergic to BioOil! I know there was some "natural" massage oil that my chiropractor used and I'd always get a rash. Coconut oil and Almond Oil are okay on my sensitive skin. Maybe because they really are all natural. Who knows what they add to Bio Oil.

@Smurfette: FUN on the consignment finds! And glad you found a coming home outfit and Easter outfit! How cool is it to think our LOs will be able to wear Easter dresses this year! And yay for the pre-natal massage! I think after these couple of days, I really want to go back for another one! And I love what you wrote about your looking forward to! I'm sure that is going to be SO true! Falling more in love with DH when you see him as a dad.

@Adira: Whoo hoo on the nesting kicking in! I think I've been in that mode, but with our smoke fiasco this weekend, we are seriously in deep-cleaning the entire house mode! For the hospital bag, I have a rolling carry-on suitcase and a large duffel bag. Haven't packed anything for DH yet, but he thinks he'll be coming back to the house for stuff a lot and to check on our dog, etc. I also want to have extra space for bringing extra hospital goodies home. My GF told me somehow she was able to snag enough diapers to last them for 2 weeks!!!

RE: The paintings above the crib - I do have friends that have said their LOs started pulling at things on the walls and near the cribs once they could stand and cruise.

We live in earthquake land, so DH doesn't want me to put anything above the bed. I think I might hang the letters for her name above the crib, but those are just "wooden-look" but actually are just very light cardboard. I wouldn't really put anything heavy or dangerous above the crib.

@Arden: LOL to old-school ways I guess? I mean, obviously she wasn't into BFing.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Thanks for your advice! I'm thinking it'll probably be safer if I don't put anything over the crib - I'd hate for the baby to pull anything down or have anything fall on him! I was looking at nursery pictures too and I noticed that it seemed common to avoid putting things over the crib, or to just have wall art (the kind that sticks to the wall), so there's nothing that could hurt the baby or for him to grab on to.

@Arden: oh wow - what a strange conversation!!!

@Adira: I thought a lot about hanging pictures above our crib after seeing lots of cute inspiration pics of nurseries but ended up hanging actual wall art on other wall areas where baby won't be able to reach - instead I made some colorful tissue poms and hung them from the ceiling above the crib. I'm sure we may end up changing some of our layout/decor once we see how it will work with our LO.

I had this whole plan of getting a ton done this weekend in terms of organizing/cleaning and getting the nursery completely finished but once I get going I just end up getting super tired and/or uncomfortable. Also out of nowhere got sick and threw up after eating a small lunch - almost as if there just wasn't room for anything in there - anyone else having stomach issues?

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one that's thought about this whole "should I put pictures over the crib or not" thing! I guess I can always move stuff around later too - I'm just so paranoid about putting holes in the wall and then not liking what I did!

I'm having stomach issues, but not like you. Mostly I just have serious heartburn, although every so often, I vomit a little - not like everything comes up, just some! I think maybe the baby is kicking my stomach when that happens, but I'm not really sure. I don't feel nauseous when it happens, so it's weird.

  11. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@dojo: thanks for the reminder that I have poms from my shower still at my parents house. I should put those over the crib too! No stomach issues for me, other then I just can't eat as much as I use too or want to with some meals.

I've read that fetal movement tends to slow down this late in the game, but the past day or so I have felt SO MUCH more going on in there. Can't really tell if it's cramping or BH or what, but I definitely wasn't expecting to be feeling so much poking and prodding still.

Maybe the baby just really enjoyed our Chinese food dinner, lol.

  13. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@aprk: I read that too and told the OB that my baby was not slowing down any fetal movement! She said some babies just keep on kicking and moving the whole way through!

  14. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@aprk: My baby has slowed down a LOT! I still feel her feet poking out of my side, and movement down in my pelvis, but for the most part, this kid is definitely not as wiggly as before...but she was REALLY wiggly, so maybe this is more normal, lol.

    @NaturallyCathy: How are you feeling?

@aprk: I think mine is slowing down still. I don't feel her all day anymore. She isn't really kicking either, just feel her moving around. Of course she thought 4 this morning was a great time to kick and I couldn't get back to sleep.

@smurfette: Yep, this girl likes to start moving in the wee hours of the morning. At least I know this, for when she's on the outside, lol

@aprk: @katiew92081: @Smurfette: I think baby has slowed down for me as well. He definitely still moves, but isn't nearly as bouncy as before!

I'm feeling crampy this morning... is that a sign?

36 week appointment today! Whoo hoo! The first of my weekly visits. Actually, I have another appointment on Thursday, cause I have to go see their back up OB to get the OK to deliver at the birth center. My high risk status is pretty much gone, now, not that I've made it to 36 weeks, so I don't think there will be an issue. I am kinda hoping for an ultrasound on Thursday, though, lol. Even though it's not much longer to see her, I haven't seen her since my ultrasound at 17 weeks!

@adira: Crampy is a sign...but it can also not be a sign, lol. I have been having bh's more and more often...they radiate from my back, though, so I'm thinking they may be more like false labor. I dunno...I'm gonna ask my mw about it today.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: Woohoo for weekly appointments!!! I hope your OB gives you the go-ahead to deliver at the birth center, but it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem!

Don't you love how everything is both a sign and not a sign? So annoying! It's the same with TTC - everything could indicating being pregnant OR just that your period is on it's way! So annoying!! I have been having more BHs lately and they seem more intense, but definitely nothing I would considering contractions yet. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens!

  23. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@adira: haha, yep...now it's the three week wait instead of the two week wait, lol. At least we know it's not our periods starting, lol.

DH and I were talking about how "they" say that the best way to get the baby out is the same way we got it in...with sex. However, seems like his part of getting it in there is a lot easier than my part of getting it out! lol

  24. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I think it can be a sign and not be a sign. Who knows! I am also having a lot more BH.

@katiew92081: Let us know how your appointment goes!

Someone at work told me this morning they think baby dropped some but I don't see it. I am going to look at my 35 week pic and the 36 we did last to see if I see a difference.

  25. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: Mine dropped a few weeks ago. She had been all up in my rib cage for most of my pregnancy, so she made me short of breath and therefore tired...and unable to eat. Now that's she's dropped, the tired fog is finally gone. And, I can eat! Love it. Except now she makes me feel like my pelvis is going to shatter, lol.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: I'm sure my husband would LOVE to help out in getting this baby out with sex, but I just feel like a beached whale and I'm not sure I have it in me to have sex with him, haha! Poor guy!

@Smurfette: I'm thinking my baby dropped too, but I'm not sure. My stomach looks more OUT, not necessarily down. But people definitely have noticed a difference, so either I'm just getting bigger or maybe the baby dropped? Who knows!

For those that are using disposable diapers, what brand are you using? I went to register with a friend, and she loves Huggies over Pampers so I did Huggies. But what I can find online Pampers Swaddlers seem to get the best reviews.

  28. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@Smurfette: Honestly, I have a bunch of store brand diapers, and one lady at my shower bought me a case of Huggies. I don't really care for Pampers, though, cause of the smell. I remember with ds I did like Luvs, and I bought Walmart store brand most of the time, just cause of the price.

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Someone else told me that she doesn't think I dropped just that she is sticking more out the wide. Or maybe I just gained too much weight this weekend. I didn't eat the best, but let me tell you those McDonald's fries sure were good for lunch on Sat.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I was going to try Pampers Swaddlers, but only because that's what the nurse at our Newborn Basics class said she liked. I think different brands work with different babies, so we may have to switch!

I think I'm maybe the same as you - that I'm just wider (or fatter, haha). I don't feel the intense pressure in my pelvis that people talk about from the baby dropping, and I still have horrible heartburn, so I don't really think he's moved all that much. And I totally hear you about eating - I had pizza and chinese food this weekend!

So I had my shower! I'm soo tired today, I was at the party for over seven hours and then we went to three stores to get the returns over with. I think every single muscle hurts. But I'm so much closer to being prepared for the munchkin!

We got several things we really needed (changing pad, boppy, travel boppy, moby wrap, changing pad cover, swing frame, stroller frame) and some things we really didn't (clothes, disposable diapers and wipes, TONS of blankets), but it wasn't hard to get most of those thing returned and now we have gift cards to get everything else we need!

We did get some things we don't need and couldn't return (bottles that were opened and used in decor and games, diaper packs that were opened and used for games, pacifiers that were opened, etc) but we'll just donate all of that to WIC or something later this week.

It was really fun and even though I'm tired and sore, it was a great day.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Arden: Yay!!! Congrats on the fun shower!!! I'm impressed you did the shower and THEN did the returns! That would definitely make for a long hard day! My feet would be KILLING me if I did that! That's awesome that you got so many things you needed! Is there anything else you still need to get?

  33. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@arden: Yay for showers! I can't believe you all say you got tons of blankets...I got exactly ONE. lol

I can't believe you did 7 hours of party, then 3 stores afterwards! I bet you slept great last night!

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Arden: Wow! 7 hours for the shower and then you did returns. I would have been to tired after the shower. You are lucky that you can return blankets. We got two handmade ones, then 5 or 6 other ones that I have no clue where they are from. Plus then we have 8 A&A blankets.

I have a shower at work on Thursday, so Sat I am planning on doing all my returns and buying everything else we need still. Gotta figure out where to buy what at, and use the gift cards and credits, so we actually spend as little as we can. I feel like we need so much still.

@Adira: You mean you realized -we- had two weeks until our due date

@Smurfette: To be honest, I'm a little exhausted, very frustrated and disappointed in myself and my body - especially when everything looked so promising. But then we took a nap after the contractions stopped late Sunday morning and afterwards I felt better. Less jittery - sleepless night, worked all morning make sure everything was ready and perfect, etc - and less anxious in general. So now I'm happy I didn't go into labor in that state of acute expectancy. Still tired but I feel better about where I am.

I have my 38 week appointment today to see how things are going and I'll tell my doctor about all that's been going on. If my mother right - I called her yesterday to vent when the contractions from last night stopped, nearly in tears - then he'll probably do a check and say that I'm going to go into labor by the end of the week.

On the one hand, I'm ready, as ready as I'll ever be, especially after Saturday/Sunday but the other part of me still wishes for March! Pipe dream, though...

In other news, we may have finally gotten this whole house mess fixed. We'll know more on Tuesday whether we close on Thursday the 28th or if we have to start the whole process all over again on a different house.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Errr, say what now? WE only have two weeks left??? Gahhh, it's so close!!!

Glad you're finally starting to feel a little better and the contractions have stopped... for now! You'll have to let us know how your appointment goes today - it definitely sounds like you are CLOSE.

I hope you're able to close on your house on the 28th and won't have to start over looking for a new house!!! Even if the baby is already here by then, it will be such a relief for you to have that done and over with! Good luck to you!

@Arden: Yay sounds like you had a great shower! Sounds like you got a lot done with returns and all too!

@Smurfette: We have some of the 7th gen and some pampers diapers - we are planning to try out cloth diapers after a week or two but will starting out with disposable.

Since I have the day off from work today I am hoping to get some extra errands done and to pick up a few things we still need. I was shocked when I woke up this morning - I slept through the night without waking up to use the restroom until 5:30 this morning - so I'm feeling so much more rested than usual! Hoping that means I will have the energy to get a lot done today!

@dojo: Wow, I'm always so impressed when people sleep through the night at this stage in pregnancy! I haven't done that in MONTHS! I'm not on a consistent wake-up-every-4-hours-to-pee schedule.

    Fingers crossed on the house!!
