@shopaholic: Hey, you never know! My normal midwives that i see all see very laid back, but when I had to see a physician, he's all "I'm going to schedule you for an ultrasound because I think you have a giant baby in there!" so maybe you'll get lucky tonight!

@Smurfette: Ugh, mine is like that too - it doesn't hit immediately after eating something, but hours later! A couple times I've woken up in the middle of the night with the worst heartburn ever!!! So lately I've just been popping one before I go to bed in hopes of keeping it at bay.

@cokiezombie: I had been avoiding all medicines altogether for most of this pregnancy, but the heartburn got so bad that I couldn't do it anymore. Plus Tums is the one thing I've found that doesn't have the "Consult your doctor before using this if you're pregnant" warning! PLUS my doctors just assumed I was taking Tums as my calcium supplement anyway, so they already thought I was taking it, so I felt safe starting!

@shopaholic: Yes, I am hoping she will end up working when I go into labor. At first I didn't cause I didn't want her seeing all my parts like that but the more I thought about it, I would rather have a friendly face. It would be much more comforting to this first time Mom, I think she would make sure we got the best care possible, and would answer any and all questions DH and I have.

@adira, @shopaholic, @cokiezombie, @smurfette: I think Tums make it worse for me. I think the awful taste I get is from them. I've been taking Zantac at night and that seemed to settle my stomach for a bit so I could sleep.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@katiew92081: Have you tried Pepsid? That's what my doctor suggested, but I have no idea how effective it is! Is the Zantac working so you can sleep? The worst is getting heartburn at night!

  6. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@adira: My husband had some Zantac in the cupboard, and my midwife said I could take it, so that's what I'm using, lol. And, yeah, it's worse at night, cause laying down makes everything soooo uncomfortable.

@katiew92081: Yes, lying down makes everything super uncomfortable. I keep telling myself this is only the beginning and that contractions are much worse, so I shouldn't be complaining.

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@cokiezombie: true...but when the contractions come, at least you know you're almost done with the pregnancy! lol I would rather them at this point, cause I'd know the heartburn would be gone soon, lol

OMG, I just totally spoiled a surprise for myself!!! Apparently my coworkers (who are all MEN by the way) are throwing me a shower tomorrow!!!

I was looking in Outlook and I have a Group Schedule for my group so that I can easily see when people are available or not, and I was just looking at it for tomorrow and noticed that almost everyone in my group has a 30 minute block scheduled tomorrow during when I have a meeting scheduled. For almost EVERYONE, schedules are private so I can just see that people are busy, but one of them has his open so you can see the title of his meetings and it's titled "Adira's Shower"

Gahhh!!! I'm so excited AND I'm nervous because I'm obviously NOT supposed to know about it!!!! I don't know if I can fake surprise!!! WTF do I do???

@Adira: Haha, awesome! I wouldn't worried about not acting surprised enough, men can never tell when women are faking.

@Adira: Aww, that is so sweet. Esp if it all men that you work with. Love that they tried to make it a surprise. Just do your best at acting surprised.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I'm so surprised! I just wouldn't think guys would think to do something like that! I'm so curious what it will entail! I know that with women, they would go out and buy clothes and stuff, but I just can't pictures these guys buying baby stuff! Maybe it'll just be cake! But it'll still be really sweet!

@Adira: haha you are so funny! that's so sweet of your colleagues to plan you a surprise shower! My work shower is this Friday and it's an open secret, so no surprises here!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I bet you get a gift card or something. Which will be great for diapers. And yes, there will be cake.

I have my work on one Thursday. Looking forward to it, esp the cake. I have a doctor's appointment that morn, so I won't even get here till 11 or so, and then the shower is scheduled 2-3, so easy work day for me!

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@adira: That's so cool! I wonder if one of their wives put them up to it? lol Even if you don't get much in gifts, it's really thoughtful of them to plan it! Maybe you'll get tons of gift cards, or one big thing that they collaborate on (one big gift card?). I can't wait to hear how it goes!

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cokiezombie: @Smurfette: @katiew92081: As long as there is cake, I'll be happy! I suspect there will be ice cream cake - one of the guys here ALWAYS gets ice cream cake for all our parties. And I'll definitely let you ladies know how it goes!!

Ok, weird thing happening. My legs are shaking, they are super weak and feel like jello. They were fine an hour ago. I know I did a lot today, but seriously it's like I'm walking on noodles. I'm scared to get up again.

@arden: Can you check your blood pressure? Call your midwife! Did you take too warm of a shower or anything? That made me dizzy once a few weeks ago.

  22. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@katiew92081: Yeah I'll go check it. I'm not dizzy, and it's only my legs. My upper body feels normal.

  23. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@arden: I would call your midwife, just to be safe.

@Adira: Awww! That's so sweet! And I agree - men can't usually tell if you fake it like you had no idea!

@Arden: Oooh.. I hope every thing is okay. Maybe you need to take it easier and need some sugar?

OK, so I just got back from the OB's office. Her PA did the exam and it didn't hurt or anything - she just had FREEZING cold hands! Looks like I am only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. There was a weird point though - I was doing the urine sample and got the worst side cramp on my right side! It hurt for like a minute and I couldn't really stand up straight or breathe well, not to mention got pee on my hand. I wondered if that could be my first contraction but it was only on the one side. I had some residual pain for a few minutes after but the PA said it could either be my bladder was too full or that it was a contraction but weird that I only felt it on one side.
Tried to see if I would get another u/s and she said they only do that if anything seems abnormal and everything is normal for me. Yay and boo at the same time....

@naturallycathy: Thanks for the update! With all of us becoming full term, I'm on the edge of my seat (not really, cause that's uncomfortable, but you know...), waiting to see who goes first!

  27. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@shopaholic: Was that before or after the exam?

  28. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@katiew92081: Before the exam! I'm still weirded out by it!

Also - my test came back positive for Group B Strep so I guess I get something in my IV when I'm delivering.

I'm so jealous of all the full term mamas! I'm 35 weeks and have a loooong stretch to go. At least I start mat leave in 2 weeks..really looking forward to sleeping in and not dealing with work email

So I saw my midwife today and my blood pressure is high. She commented that my face looks a little puffy, but I don't really have any other pre-eclampsia symptoms. I'm coming back on Friday to re-check my pressure, but I'm already going to worst case scenario ... I want the baby to be here soon, but induction would be no bueno ...

  31. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@aprk: Oh no! I hope it's not pre-eclampsia! Maybe it one a one time deal with the high blood pressure. If you were a little warmer than usual, that can cause high blood pressure...also other things. If you don't have many other symptoms, maybe it'll all be ok.

  32. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@katiew92081: thanks. It was high on Thursday and again today. I know it could be nothing but its frustrating ... It seems like the pre-eclampsia diagnosis is so subjective.

  33. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@aprk: Take some magnesium supplements! They are fantastic for lowering blood pressure (and they help leg cramps). I take them everyday since 30 weeks.

  34. Smurfette

@Arden: Hope you are feeling ok!
@shopaholic: So weird!!! Sorry about the Strep B positive
    @NaturallyCathy: Sorry!!

@cokiezombie: Jealous you only have two weeks left of work. I am trying to work up till labor to save my time. Not sure how I am going to do it.
@aprk: Oh no!! I hope it was just a fluke. When are you due again?

  35. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Arden: I'll check it out. Thanks!

@Smurfette: March 27. This "scare" might be karma for me wanting him to be here already!

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@aprk: Would they induce you this early??

  37. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Smurfette: we didn't get that far today. But from what I've read, if the diagnosis ends up being pre-e, then yeah, I believe induction would be the "answer."

  38. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

@aprk: I think runsyellowlites had threatened pre-e that she was able to control with magnesium baths. She might be a good person to ask.

@Arden: thanks. I didn't see too much on the boards but maybe I didn't do a thorough enough search.

    @Smurfette: thanks!
