@naturallycathy: After yesterday, and learning that I'm contracting already, and after getting the go ahead to give birth at the birth center, I'm ready. I'm TIRED of this belly. I'm tired of feeling so helpless and my husband not letting me do things like crossing the sidewalk on an icy day or clean the tub.
I'm not having anymore babies after this, that's for sure, lol.
She can wait til March if she needs to...I'm certainly not going to be induced...but if she wants to come today, that's cool, too.

@katiew92081: I told my husband that we're going to wait and see after this one if we're having another one. I'm still open to the idea. I'm not miserable during pregnancy and my husband lets me do as much or as little as I feel that I ought to - although sometimes he does get protective and tell me to rest more.
I figure we'd wait until this next one was at least a year old and then discuss the possibility of having another child in the next year or two. By then, we should know if we're done or not, since Henry will be two. I'm a third child and I came later than my siblings by five years, which meant that I practically grew up an only child with my siblings helping to take care of me. I wouldn't want to wait that long between my kids.

@blackbird: This gives me hope. Although when I have gotten them PP I thought they hurt. I am just afraid how much more it will hurt.
@NaturallyCathy: Walk that baby out!!

@Smurfette: I'm going to try but I'm afraid to stray too far from the house and the best place is about twenty minutes away. Yes, my husband could get to me, as could other family members, but I'm not sure how quickly if I went. The other option is to walk around Target or the grocery store or something, which is never very exciting or fun by myself. Especially when dealing with Henry.

@naturallycathy: Dh and I are pretty much in agreement for being done. We're in our 30's, though, and at the point we're ready to go on to the next phase...buying a house comfortable to where we all had space and plenty of outside room for a small petting zoo, lol. We want the freedom to give these two a fun childhood. I used to think I wanted lots of kids, but I cannot imagine it, now. I'd rather have lots of animals, lol.
My younger brother is 9 years younger than me, so I hear where you're coming from. My older brother and I are only 2 years apart. I wouldn't love an "oops" baby any less, but we're definitely not planning on more.

@smurfette, I didn't think they hurt much more while pregnant than pre-pregnancy. Ever so slightly, maybe. It could be because I have been going regularly...I find they hurt *the most* when I don't go for the winter and then start going again for the spring. Yow. They still bite a little in some areas versus others, and the lady warned me i might bleed a little more and that it's very common, but I didn't. It was just a relief to have it done and know it's all taken care of

@NaturallyCathy: In our L&D class she told us when contractions started to just get up and dance. Whether it was actaully dancing around the living room, walking the neighborhood, or Target, just get on your feet and let gravity do it's job. Maybe you should take your MIL up on her offer to walk to the mall haha
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@blackbird: I agree. I am just going to bite the bullet and go this weekend or next weekend. Then it should last through delivery and I don't have to worry about it.

@katiew92081: My 23rd birthday is in April. My husband's 30th is in May. Assuming this loan goes through, we'll have a house by March 1st (6 more days!) that has more than enough room for the family we have and then another addition if we wanted. There's a nice little yard in the back and in the front for a few pets but I've never been one for lots of animals. It's not that I don't love animals - I do - I just don't like the idea of our house turning into a baby and animal zoo
That's why I'm not sure if after this one we're done. It's not hard for us to conceive (obviously since -both- babies were an oops), and I at least am still young enough to manage. I just don't think I can do it if it's -immediately- after this next baby. Two babies back to back is all I can take.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Smurfette: NEVER. In response to her email, I told her that I was sorry, but I was buy for the rest of the week. Then I asked her why she wanted to go to the mall (in a manner that was casual, at my husband's suggestion) and she never responded. Which of course makes me wonder even more why she was so adamant about going before this next one comes. But I'm willing to let it go so that I don't have to deal with her asking anymore, which I'm grateful for.
I'd rather eat chalk and chew on nails for fun than take that walk with her. I don't want her anywhere around when I'm in labor and I'd rather not see her or my FIL for as long as possible after delivering. But that's just me.

@NaturallyCathy: Sumo walk! I know I've said this before, but it works like a charm. I always tell my doula clients to sumo walk the baby out. You spread your legs apart in a half squat, and stomp around the house like that.
It really helps get baby down and in position. Several clients had their water break while they were doing this in early labor!

@Arden: If only I thought my knees would support me, I would do this. Not only am I terribly clumsy, even before pregnancy, I also have no sense of balance and I've had knee surgery because of a weak knee. Probably wouldn't be the best thing for me unless the walls we padded...
honeydew / 7589 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I know what you mean, my balance is bad too. Have DH walk in front of you and hold onto his hands as you do it, that might make it easier.

@Arden: hahaha, good luck with your painting projects!!
@NaturallyCathy: Gosh, you sound soooooo close, but I'm glad you're still here!
@blackbird: I'm impressed you got a wax! Though it sounds like you've gotten them before, so you knew what to expect? I've never gotten one, so I was too scared to do it now, haha.

@Adira: This will sound silly but I feel like I'm on the verge every time. Every time a pain hits or pressure unexpectedly, a false contractions takes my breathe for a second, I feel like 'almost, almost, almost' but it's always 'not quite'. I don't know if that's because of what the doc said Monday or the way my body reacted Saturday/Sunday. It just feels like there's some piece missing...

@NaturallyCathy: I hear you! But it sounds like it will happen sooooooon!!! I'm so excited for you!!! You and @katiew92081 - seems like one of you will be the first to go!

Hey everyone! Happy Friday to everyone. My happy Friday news is that I had a baby early this morning! I ended up having to be induced due to a surprise medical condition called cholestasis, so our birth was a bit different than we had planned. However, we have a healthy and beautiful baby boy now. I love him so much.
I'll try to come back and post more later; for now, I am going to take a nap.

@Smurfette: hahaha, yeah, one of the later March Mommas may have to take it up, but I'm definitely going to try to keep it going if I can! I'm excited we already have one baby here!!!

@mole: congratulations!!!
To follow up from my slightly dramatic/overreacting post a few days ago, my blood pressure was great today and the midwife said everything is fine. PHEW! I did take a bath last night @arden, so I think that helped the puffiness.

DS's rash turned out to just be eczema. Poor kid. Special prescription lotion, plus expensive Aveeno eczema cream should clear him up in a few days. He goes to his dad's house this weekend, so I hope that his dad will 1. remember to put it on him and 2. remember to bring it back with him.

Congrats @Mole!!!
Anyone else having a scheduled c-section? I just found out this week at Week 35 that baby is breech and my doctor scheduled the c-section for March 22 - we're going to check him every week to see if he flips but she's not confident he will given the lack of room in my torso Not too upset, or trying not to be at least, it's definitely not what I had planned or wanted but in the end I'm surprisingly okay with it
Happy almost birth month March Mamas!!

@aprk: awesome! I am sure you are relieved
@katiew92081: poor guy!
@legallyheidi: nope, right now baby is head's down. Sorry yours isn't and you have to have c-section Fingers crossed baby turns!

@blackbird: LOL ! I just had a wax last week too. Actually, my waxer was right - pregnancy has slowed down the hair growth a lot down there! She told me I should have waited another week or two so I'd be extra clean for delivery, but it was Valentine's Day! I might go in for a clean up in another week or so though. Didn't find it too painful.

@legallyheidi: Fingers crossed baby flips! You never know...I've heard of babies flipping the same day women go into labor.

@aprk: Glad your blood pressure is looking good!!! That must be a relief!
@katiew92081: Bummer about the eczema but at least it's nothing too serious, and now you know!
@legallyheidi: Bummer you're probably going to have to have a c-section. Hopefully the baby turns around instead!!! I may end up having a c-section as well (just learned some scary statistics about big babies), but nothing scheduled and nothing set in stone yet.

@katiew92081: surprisingly that happened with my mom (when she was pregnant with me!) but back in the early 80's they didn't do VBACs so I was cesarean anyhow. Husband was also c-section so I'm not super surprised that this is how baby is turning out to be. Not what I expected but it certainly makes it easier for family to plan on coming down (all of our family is from out of town) so there are certainly upsides

Just got back from my OB appointment where we had the "Big Baby Talk" and my doctor totally freaked me out. He gave me some statistics for things that could happen, but the info is based on 10+ lb babies, weighed AFTER they were born, and that even though they can guess how big my baby is, it's highly inaccurate and there's no way to know for sure how big the baby really is.
Basically, of 10+ lb babies, 30-40% end up as c-sections for whatever reason, 35-45% are delivered vaginally with no problems, and 25% get STUCK on the way out vaginally. Essentially their heads can get out and then their shoulders will get stuck.
Of the 25% of babies that get stuck, 25% of them suffer permanent injuries. The two injuries he mentioned to me were basically nerve damage, causing loss of use/motion of an arm, and also lack of oxygen to the baby (I'm not sure what this results in... death?)
So basically, of 10+ lb babies, there's a 6.25% chance of permanent injury to the baby.

@Smurfette: @Adira: I'm definitely pleased. Going to try and be more patient with this guy;)
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: ack! But, how do you know for sure if you're gonna have a big baby? Are they telling you that you should schedule a c-section? What if it's not as big as they think it is, and you schedule a c-section for an 8 lb?
Also, c-sections count for about 30% of ALL babies. Not just big ones. And, most of them could have been avoided.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: There's really no way to know for sure if you're going to have a big baby or not. According to my doctor, the hand measurements they do are highly inaccurate, though the ultrasounds are MORE accurate, they can still be off by a lb or more. So even though the ultrasound said my baby is currently 9 lbs, he may only be 8 (or he could be 10!).
They are NOT telling me to schedule a c-section, at least not yet anyway. I think it was something to keep in mind if I'm still pregnant in 2-3 weeks. If I go into labor soon, then it's likely my baby will be under 10 lbs and there will be a lot less risk for the complications mentioned. But if I go 2-3 more weeks, then it's probably more likely I'm having a 10+ lb baby so I think I'm supposed to think about going straight to c-section instead of attempting vaginal, but I got the impression he wasn't encouraging either thing because, like he kept saying, their guesses to how big the baby is aren't all that accurate.
I think I really need to understand more the risks for a c-section. If my baby is in fact 10+ lbs when I'm attempting to deliver, then he has a 6% chance of being permanently injured. But I don't know the risks of c-section to me or the baby. If the risk of injury to the baby (and myself) is less than 6%, then I think it's something I should consider, even if it ends up being unnecessary because my baby is only 8 lbs.
