@Adira: i commend any woman who can naturally birth a 10 lb baby - i've heard stories of women who have w/no injury to them or baby so def not impossible

@legallyheidi: Oh my gosh, yes, I agree! My SIL just recently had an 11 lb baby with no problems! And it sounds like of those that have big babies and deliver vaginally, 94% of them are JUST FINE. I'm just not sure how I feel about that other 6%... sounds low, but when it comes to my baby, it seems high... I don't know. I'm just freaking out. And REALLY hoping the baby comes early!

@Adira: such a tough situation, especially bc for every big baby = c-section story you hear one about a natural delivery. Thinking good thoughts for you!!

@aprk: Thank you! It's hard because the risks are only based on known birth weights, which can only be known AFTER the fact. It's hard to know what the right thing to do is given how inaccurate they are at figuring out how big the baby actually is. I guess I'm currently just going to hope for the best and hope this baby comes early, haha. And if not, I'll ask at my next appointment (Thursday) about the risks to the baby (and me) with a c-section.

@adira: Those numbers are the same for all babies, though...even if it's smaller, there's still a chance that you or the baby can get injured.

I think a good approach, for a vaginal birth, is to take it slow. Avoid the pitocin to rush it and just ease baby out.

@Adira: I am sorry that you have to worry about this. I would be freaked out as well. Hopefully he is good boy and comes early and he isn't as big as they think! Did they do a cervical check today?

Maybe reach out to OliviaOlivia (I think that is her name) if I remember in my stalking, she was a Jan Mom who had a 10lb baby. Ask her what did and if they were right about the size of her baby.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I guess my practice doesn't do cervical checks because no, they didn't do one. Or maybe they don't do them until after you reach your due date? I forgot to ask, haha.

And thanks for the tip! I'll definitely ask her!

@Adira: They might wait till 39 weeks. Mine only does them at 36, 39, and 40 weeks. It really doesn't mean anything, my good friend was dilated at 4 for two weeks before she had to be induced.

@Smurfette: @Adira: just popping in to co-stalk. My ultrasound estimate was dead on. They said between nine and half to ten and a half pounds. She was born on her due date at 10lbs 1oz. My doc had no plans to induce but I ended up at L&D with erratic blood pressure and they started an induction. Two days later I had to have a c-section. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I expected. I kept reading horror stories but it was ok and my recovery has been a breeze.

I had my six week follow up yesterday and went over the birth with my doc. She said that at the end of the day the baby was too big and I would have continued to labour for another few days and had a painful delivery had we not done the section. In the end I'm happy with the birth despite it not being the birth I had hoped for.

Adira, you will be fine. Big babies are a blessing. DD is a great sleeper and has been since birth.

@oliviaoblivia: Thanks for popping in with your story!! When your doctors thought you were having a big baby, did they tell you about the possible injuries to the baby with a vaginal birth?

  11. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@Adira: we talked a bit about shoulder dystosia but not anything else really. I was 9lbs9oz and my mom delivered me vaginally with no problems. As she is smaller than I am neither my doctor nor I were super concerned about me not being able to deliver the baby. The woman in my family have big babies so I had no reason to believe that I wouldn't be able to handle this one....and then I had the biggest baby on record for my family.

Honestly, my recovery has been so easy that despite originally wanting a natural no meds birth, I wouldn't be upset if I had to have another csection for #2.
I do think both baby and I came out healthier because we made that decision.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@oliviaoblivia: Thanks for the info! My mom had <9 lb babies, so I have no idea if there's experience in my family with larger babies. I know my grandmother did have one 10+ lb baby, but it was baby #6 for her, so I think it's a different situation.

I guess I'll just have to wait a bit and see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky and go into labor early. I was always planning on having a vaginal birth, but I'm definitely not opposed to a c-section. I just want to do whatever will be safest for the baby.

@oliviaoblivia: I love that someone else stalks the other due date twin boards. You are lucky she is already sleeping great. Maybe I should hope for a big baby!!

@Adira: Good luck with the big baby thing! IDK what to say except that I hear a LOT of estimates are way off! FWIW, our nephew was a bit over 10lbs and my SIL delivered fine vaginally. Bodies are pretty incredible at what they can handle!

@oliviaoblivia: Lovely to see you over here! Glad your c-sect turned out okay. Honestly, all my friends that have had c-sects seemed really okay with it!

Having some really mild contractions today, but that be because of dh's "help" lol. I'm pretty sure that the adage that having sex helps is true.

Doesn't really mean anything at this point, though...they're not regular and they don't hurt.

So I'm going to take some... boudior... maternity shots today. Just some topless silhouettes and some in bed with a sheerish nightgown.
I have never done anything like this before, so I'm kind of scared. But the photographer is going to do it for so little money (practically free) that I couldn't pass it up.

    SCARED!!!

@arden: You are brave! Although, I think most women are the most comfortable in their skin when pregnant, so it's a great time to do it! Try to have fun!

I just want to say...I'm SOOO tired of maternity pants! Even if I have to wear sweatpants after this kid comes out, I'll be so happy to get rid of these!

Looks like I've missed a lot going on in the last week! Well it's been a whirlwind of a week for me and wanted to pop on here to share news that my baby boy arrived early despite my desire to get to March!

Short version of a long story: Woke up Monday night at midnight to suspicious leakage but waited it out to see if it continued - next morning after talking with OB went into birth center to be checked out - then admitted for labor and delivery. Many many hours later and after the strong 'threat' of c-section baby was born at 8:42 am. Everything was looking good and we were ready to be discharged the next day but after a test he showed high numbers for Bilirubin so they ended up keeping us another night with him under the lights (absolute nightmare!) Next day we were able to come home and are just now settling in to life with baby

So I guess I'm not technically a March mama but I can pretend

Just popping into say hello, instead of my traditional lurking. The doctors are hoping I can make it 3 more weeks from today, but won't let me go any further due to the increased risk to our type of twins after 37 weeks.

Are any of you having dreams about going into labor all the time? The last few nights, that is all I dream about! I wouldn't say they were exactly realistic dreams, though, since the last one I had involved my twins walking and talking on the way out of the operating room. They just grow up so fast apparently!

Good luck in the next few weeks, ladies!

    @dojo: Congratulations!! Beautiful picture!

@Mrs. Blue: Good luck with 3 more weeks! I have been having dreams about labor and being in the hospital starting about a month ago. Kind of stressful, and in one dream, there were 2 babies! So I can only imagine what your dreams are like!

@Mrs. Blue: I keep having breastfeeding dreams. But I do try to visualize a successful birth when I'm drifting off to sleep. I just can't wait!

@dojo: Congrats!!! He is precious. You will always be a March Mamma to us.
@Mrs. Blue: No labor dreams, I just keep thinking everything is a sign of labor.

I went to BBB and BRU and got a bunch of stuff off the registries. Spent way too much money, but lucky we had gift cards to cover everything. I still have plenty in gift cards left too. Lucky us!! I got the nursery a little more organized. Tomorrow DH is going to get the curtains up and some shelves so hopefully we will done then. I will post some pictures.

I can't believe I will be full term tomorrow!

@Smurfette: Doesn't it feel like a big deal to complete all your registry stuff? Glad you had enough GC's plus some! Can't wait to see your pictures! We're working on the nursery and home stuff this weekend too. Looks like "Nesting" for March Mommas is in full swing!

@mole: @dojo: Congratulations to you both On the one hand, I'm glad I didn't go first. On the other hand, I wish I were on the other side of this with you! Hopefully everything DH and I have done to today will help remedy this.

@Smurfette: Yay nesting. I wish I could nest but I still need a nest to nest... if that makes sense. I do have one cool thing to say about that though - apparently, if all goes well, we're closing on the house on Monday (the 25th)! Which means we'll have keys to our new house and I can finally nest!

I'm still pregnant...spent the day with dh, exploring lots and houses for sale and I'm exhausted! My feet and hands are swollen and I can tell I'll be falling right to sleep tonight. We found one lot we did like, but we've gotten to the point where we don't fall in love with something right away, because we expect something to be "wrong" with it, lol. It's gonna be a long process.

I've still been having mild contractions, but painless and not in any type of pattern. She's probably gonna keep teasing me for a while. I'm just really glad that I get to go to the midwife every week, now. Waiting is the worst!

It's so exciting to see March mommas having their babies!!

@dojo: Oh my gosh, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! So happy for you and your family!!!! Your son is adorable!!!

@Mrs. Blue: Sounds like you're definitely going to be a March Momma! I've been having crazy dreams, but not about labor. The dreams I've had lately are about breastfeeding - maybe I'm stressed about doing it? I have no idea, haha.

@Smurfette: Yay that you got so many things you need!!! And it's so exciting that you're going to be full term tomorrow!!!

@katiew92081: Gahhh, I can't believe you're still with it!!! Won't be much longer now!!!
