@winniebee: He CRIES if we don't put pants on him. I kid you not!
@Mrsdaredevil: condoms... and like 5 years? or never? we had sex instead of breakfast yesterday--decisions, decisions!
@duckduckkristen: I've heard the same thing about milk supply when you get pregnant.
@Coco Bee: exactly! I have the mini pill, but she said as soon as i add solids in addition to breastmilk it won't work as well anyway, so... uh? not worth it!
@Goldilocks1107: So glad to hear it! I hope it keeps getting better. I 'm a little more sensitive to jokes than usual now, too. Your house sounds awesome.
    @LAGS: Thanks for that article.
@Nskillet: Good luck on the interview--I hope you find a job with better day-off policies.
@LAGS: ALSO, I am not 100% and I had a c-section after some pushing.... I can also feel it sometimes when I just sit or pee.

@Mrsdaredevil: two or three times a week?! Lucky you. How do you manage? I'm always too tired at night and Liam sucks at napping, so we just do it once a week, on the weekend mornings while Liam is sleeping. Luckily he sleeps in.

@LAGS: I didn't tear or anything so recovery was easy. We started DTD at 6 weeks pp and the first couple times it hurt a little so we took it slow but since then it's been fine. If it isnt getting better I'd def talk to your doctor.

How much napping do your LOs do? I usually get four 45 minute naps out of Liam.

@duckduckkristen: I guess we have always just kind of had sex a lot. We did it every day until the day LO was born. And I am tired....but sometimes I don't want to hurt DH's feelings and other times he is really sneaky and good at getting me "in the mood."

W doesn't nap much. It Is 1:40 pm and so far she has taken a one hour nap in bed with me and one 30 minute nap. They are very rarely longer than 45 minutes.

@Mrsdaredevil: lol. I wish DH was sneaky about it. If I even mention I'm tired he won't even try. He's too afraid of making me feel too pressured. But also, when we go to bed I have to wear wrist braces for my tendinitis and I think he thinks once those are on its a sign I dont want any. Haha.

@pastemoo: what? minipill not working after adding solids? for real?

  6. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@cvbee: That's what my NP said. She also said pumping for going back to work can alter its effectiveness (basically anything but nursing on demand...) She said the effectiveness drops and I'll need condoms as backup anyway--so why use it at all if it might affect my milk supply? Plus those super thin condoms are really not that bad once you get started.
And hey, with condoms, you can "hide" one on DH's side of the bed if you want him to come surprise you...

@pastemoo: totally news to me. I had heard those things about using EBF as 'protection' but I thought the minipill wasn't just for breastfeeding people....well, maybe my prescription will just sit in my purse forever. I like the way you make condoms 'fun'.

@Mrsdaredevil: you are sooo brave!!! We haven't tried anything other than good ol' missionary position... oh, we did cowgirl a few times.

So for all your who said your LO is sleeping horribly (@LAGS, @regberadaisy) - Cobi JUST popped out of this phase! Like... two weeks ago?! He had a TWO MONTH long sleep regression... oh joy!! Right at 3 months was when it started, he was up 5-7 times a night. His sleep was so bad we figured why not transition him to his crib now, can't get any worse! And it actually made it better. More like 2-3 times a night was up, but then he wouldn't go to sleep until 10pm-12am. It was rough. We finally bit the bullet and have been sleep training the last 9 days. It's a long, arduous process, but we're making headway.

Also: have any of your LO's started teething yet? Some babies start as early as 2 months I've heard?
Well Cobi had a particularly rough day today. Rough on me too! He napped OK (not great), but every second he was awake - he was miserable!! To get him to take his last night I gave him two Hylands Teething Tablets and it helped him sleep. But it was still only 45 minutes. Hopefully he sleeps ok tonight. Ugh this is NOT FUN. I hope it doesn't last long!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It will be at least a week before we know more about DH's health scare/issue. Our family doctor is away, but back next week and they got him in right away, but he will need at least an ultrasound before we know more.

Sleep was more of the same last night, up every 3-4 hours again, but got in about 10 hours sleep total, and he went down for his naps like a dream today, so I am hopeful things will turn around. When he is awake at night he usually nurses than goes straight back asleep, so it isn't horrible.

For birth control I am EBF, and I use the mini-pill, and we use condoms (we are paranoid, and I am not great at remembering the pill). We plan on trying for #2 a couple months after I go back to work (so about a year from now). However, we might push up our timeline depending on what happens with DH's health scare/issue.

My OB only gave me 6 months because of it being not as effective after introducing solids. I actually found the mini-pill really helped my over supply issues, they knocked back my production just enough to keep it under control somewhat. Sawyer still only nurses 2-3 mins per side each feeding, but at least he is pleasant and had healthier looking poop.

@Mrsdaredevil: I'm sorry your DH doesn't seem to understand. It is tough, because you can't understand until you are the one at home.

@Coco Bee: Welcome to our little thread! Sawyer has acted like he was teething for a month already, but nothing has popped through yet (and as far as I am concerned those little teeth can stay hidden, he likes to gum my nipple hard sometimes, and once there are teeth that will be very dangerous).

@cvbee: Good luck with the immunizations! Sawyer definitely did better with the actual pokes, but was more fussy for about a day after than last time (even with giving tylenol on schedule)

@duckduckkristen: Sweetened condensed milk in coffee sounds yummy! I might have to try that instead of my "fake cream" (That International delights stuff). I usually get 2 1 hour naps and a 2 hour nap out of Sawyer, then about 10 hours sleep (with 2-3 wakeups) overnight.

@MsMini: I see/feel no teeth either. I constantly check his gums. But given his fussiness, and age, I think it's that time.

I have been reading along on my phone, and have SO many things I want to reply to! Hoping to hop on the computer soon to make that happen.

Just wanted to say, Penny is for sure joining that fun sleep regression group. The last few nights have been hell. She will sleep from 9:30 to 1, then will nurse and wake up right away when I try to put her down. This results in co-bedding and side lying breast feeding for the rest of the night and then an extra amount of spit up in the morning. Glorious.

@pastemoo: @msmini: um I had mo idea about this side effect of the mini pill. Glad my doctor told me?!

Tyler used to be a good napper but I don't think he was getting enough overnight sleep (like used to take several 2 hour naps during the day).

The past week he has been sleeping 12 hrs overnight (with 2 wakeups) but then only takes 3-4 short day naps of 30-45 mins. I'm still trying to figure out what sleep combination works best for him.

I spoke too soon about him not crying after we put him down for the night. Last night put him down at 8 (no evening catnap) and he woke up 45 mins later. Then half an hour later. He was finally out by 945. Slept til 3, then from 3:30 til 630. I put him back down after this feed at 7 because I just don't think 8 hours of overnight sleep is enough for him. He's been trying to fall asleep an I can hear him grunting from the other room (it's now 730).

I can't believe how much sex some of you are having. I'm sort of embarrassed but we haven't even tried. I wanted to wait for mini pill to be effective and I delayed taking it for awhile since I was worried it would impact my supply (it hasn't). We've talked about it the last couple of weeks but have had little to no opportunity (unless of course we want to sacrifice night sleep....). I wish my husband would just initiate (he knows this) but is probably even more tired than me since he gets up at 5 for work an goes to bed with me. Anyways, we are on vacatin next week at the Lakehouse and we keep saying we will then. We really need to - I need to feel like a wife again!

@Mrsdaredevil: we are going to use condoms. I bought that fertility book at a thrift store when I was pregnant in order to get to know my cycles more once off bc. I had been on hormonal bc for nearly 10 years and have no clue what a normal cycle is like. Verdict is still out on the next one as now DH thinks we should only have one. I want more, at least 1 more, so we'll see!

@winniebee: we just finally had sex for the first time this week. So, you are not alone there. Honestly, like you guys, we are both generally just too tired, and I find myself not into it as much since I have a baby hanging on me all day. Boobs are pretty much off limits to him, I just don't want them to be touched!

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@duckduckkristen: M has been 20 minute catnaps since about 7 weeks. Every now and then we'll get an hour out of her.

@Mrsdaredevil: ha! I was wondering how you guys were doing since it seemed like we were the only 2 that actually enjoyed pregnancy sex. hehe I hear you about the sneaky

@Coco Bee: what??? Don't tell me that about the sleep...I might just cry! I'm 95% sure M has started teething. No white yet but drools like crazy, stuffs her whole fist in her mouth and chews on everything.

@winniebee: why don't you initiate? It's hard to believe but guys need to feel wanted/desired sometimes too

As a general aside, I know we are all very very tired. But I really do believe intimacy is important in a relationship. Gotta keep that spark alive!

*drumrolls please* M slept from 830pm-240am last night!! Woohoo! That's her normal sleep schedule!!! Then it was like 1-2 hour wakings after that. But it meant I got to sleep from 1000-240am last night! Probably a fluke but I'll take it!

ETA: Who asked about healing? I'm probably like 90%? It's a little uncomfortable from the get go but once things get rolling we're good.
And um. TMI. But anyone have rear issues? Ugh damn hemorrhoids.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I'm right there with all you sleepless ladies. Ethan was so good about going to bed drowsy around 8:30 and then sleeping until 3 and then up between 6:30-7:30, I thought I was so lucky we wouldn't have to sleep train. HA!! I should have known better. He's been waking up to feed 3-4 times a night for two weeks now. Last night he was up every two hours. I'm a zombie at work today, I'm so tired I just want to cry.

@Coco Bee: Oh geez, I pray this doesn't last for months!

@Mrsdaredevil: I got the Mirena IUD. Insertion was pretty easy and while I've had some spotting on and off since then, it hasn't been bad. I did notice just a slight drop in my supply, but I'm still able to keep up with Ethan's demand.

We've only had sex a handful of times. I only had one stitch after delivery and haven't had any pain issues, but I'm just so tired with working full time and taking care of E in the evenings. I know the hubs would like to more often, but he doesn't ever initiate. I don't know if he's trying to give me time, or doesn't want to get shot down, but we'd probably do it more often if he initiated more.

@MsMini: Good luck with DH's appointment, I hope everything turns out alright.

@duckduckkristen: Your wrist braces remind me of the movie Date Night and Tina Fey's mouth guard. If you haven't seen it, it's a funny movie!

And since it's been awhile, a picture of E... I can't believe how big he's getting.

    Two questions:

    (1) how many overnight hours of sleep does your LO get? I'm trying to figure out what works best for Tyler (and how early to put him down at night). Just the past week he has been sleeping 12 hours overnight with 2 wakeups = 11 hours of overnight sleep.

    (2) currently how much time between naps? I think Tyler's magic number for awake time between naps is 1.5 hours, 2 max.

@winniebee: even during Nico's 2 months of great sleep, he would sometimes wake up during the first hour I put him down. I just figured he didn't quite 'tank up' enough and needed some more to eat before his long long sleep.

@regberadaisy: re healing, I think I'm all good in the vjj (actually DH commented this week that some positions that used to hurt me before pregnancy didn't seem to bother me now!), but I also have rear issues. The gals from this thread can tell you that from about 6 weeks to 9 weeks PP I had 'razor blade poops', even though they were soft and normal looking. I was too scared to use the 'roid treatments that you actually put INTO your bum, but I used some gel on the outside, and I think from that I got a bladder infection that turned into a kidney infection from hell (had to get morphine at the hospital) and once that was over, I decided to just use the witch-hazel-based bum wipes. I don't use them anymore. I still have bleeding with pooping, some more than other days, but I have zero pain, so I dont really care about it anymore.

Boo! Nap time is over and it hasn't even been an hour! I will see if a little brestfeeding can get him down for a little longer.

  20. cvbee

    nectarine / 2039 posts

nap time extension success! (I knew it would work because he woke up crying rather than babbling....crying=hungry, babbling= refreshed and ready to wake).

@winniebee: Nico used to do 12 hours overnight. Now he sometimes does 11 and other times 12. I've read that anything from 10-12 is typical. From everything I've read, babies are biologically set to go to bed between 6:30 and 7:30, but I did 8-8 for those 2 months before things changed. I would often start feeding him at 7:30 and he'd be out by 8. Now, it looks like he might need a 7pm bedtime and he'll do 7-7? Still figuring it out.

For naps, when Nico was Tyler's age (you know, since he's so much 'older', ha), He was like clockwork of being up for 1.5 to 2 hours (usually 2) and then sleeping for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Now he is up for 3 hours (well, this morning he made only 2.5) and then naps for much longer (napped 45 minutes, woke to eat, and is now down for what I expect to be another hour).

Sleep report. Day 1 of feeding him every 2 hours resulted in Nico waking up exactly every 4 hours overnight. So, not only has it cured the massive spit-up issue, but it seems to have helped the sleeping too. I expect things will continue to shift, but I am very happy with the progress so far.

All this talk about the mini-pill has me a bit upset that I have not been better-informed by my people. The prenatal class nurse even told us that her specialty is contraception and she was the one who told us that the mini-pill is the only thing that is compatable with breastfeeding and I'm quite sure that she didn't mention anything about supply issues and definitely didn't metntion anything about it being less effective with solids. Now, when I asked my doc for the mini-pill script (which I still have not filled) he didn't say anything about it interfering with supply or less effective with solids, but he did say that he felt that he should let me know that a small amount of it will get into the breastmilk. That comment was what got me a little scared and starting to google things and ended up not using it. But still, WTF, how can it be that both of these healthcare providers would not have mentioned that it might not be effective after 6 months? Very curious about this.

As for the sex, I'll just add in that we're doing it about once or twice a week, which is similar to pregnancy, and not as much as pre-pregnancy.....ha, and definitely not as much as TTC times! And all my parts are normal now. (DH says, better than ever).

@MsMini: Nico did as expected with the shots. I did give him tylenol before, and then two more times after, but none today. I notice that the one that 'stings more' (not the tetanus) has redness at the site today but he doesn't seem bothered.

    Doc visit 4 months
    16 pounds 1 ounce (75th percentile)
    25 inches (50th percentile)

Doc also mentioned to be really careful about falls at this age. If you have to even reach for a kleenex, hand on baby, and if too far, put the baby on the ground or pick him up.

Doc also talked about with cold season coming up to avoid over-the-counters and to use hot shower air, warm compress on face, and snot suckers instead.

Oh man, I think I'm really going to enjoy getting used to this extra-long morning nap time.

Yesterday I was posting this photo and my 'report' from the doc visit and the page timed out or something, so I'll try again. Here is Nico at the doctor's. It is also when I noticed that he is losing a lot of hairs. (When I was stroking his head, several hairs were coming out at once).

  22. LAGS

    clementine / 916 posts

I'm at such a loss with A's sleep. Last night she went down at 7:30, was up at 8:30 and had to be soothed back down. She was up again at briefly at 9, then 11 to feed, and up at 1, 2, 3, 4 and from there on out its a blur because I was so exhausted I brought her into bed and just popped her on the boob when she was fussing so I could get some sleep...

One thing I did start doing last night was not feeding her every time she woke up (basically because there's no way she needed to eat hourly... good God.) She'd go back down for another hour if I rocked her back to sleep. Tonight I'm going to try having her back in her crib, because what else do I have to loose?

I'm really reassured to hear about everyone's healing. My Dr had mentioned that things should feel normal-ish by 3-4 months pp, so I was getting really worried. But it seems like most of you aren't quite 100% either. I'll give it a little more time before I look into it further.

@Coco Bee: ...two months of this?? Ahh I'm happy for you that Cobi has come around though! I'm stuck with what to do re: the crib. She's been fine to sleep in the crib, but since her sleep has been so terrible I've been keeping her in her bassinet out of convenience for me... maybe I should experiment with a night back in the crib.

@kiddosc: Those boots are too cute!

    @winniebee:
Addie gets between 12-13hrs a night. I'm not subtracting her wake ups because she basically has always dream fed for her nighttime wake ups.

We average 1.5-2 hrs lately too. She used to do longer stretches when she actually had a decent nap, but since we've been averaging 30mins, 1.5hrs is usually her limit.

  23. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

@winniebee: willa gets 10 hours of overnight sleep (pretty much like clockwork. If she goes to bed at 730, she will wake up at 530 or 6. If she goes to bed at 10, she will wake up at 8 or 830. She wasis getting 12 very regularly, but that stopped once she started this sleep regression thing.

She goes about 90 minutes before her first nap, 2 before her second, and then usually 2 hours between all her naps after that.

  24. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

Willa's rolling has started to become quite the problem. If I put her down on her stomach, she is awake shortly on her back on the other side of the crib. If I put her down on her back, she is awake shortly on her stomach on the other side of the crib (and has usually turned 180 degrees as well). I feel like if she wasn't rolling around so much she would sleep better. Is there any way to fix this?

  25. cvbee

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@Mrsdaredevil: is she in a sleep sack? maybe she wouldn't be able to get as much leg-pushing help with a sleep sack on? (otherwise, I have no advice, as mine is still like a helpless sack of potatoes with no real clue about rolling over yet)

  26. kiddosc

    grapefruit / 4278 posts

@winniebee: Ethan sleeps for about 11 hours at night 8:30-7:30. He was only waking up once around 3, but now his sleep is all messed up and he wakes up multiple times in a night. He pretty much always takes a nap after we get home from daycare too, around 6-7.
His max awake time is about 2 hours, but 1.5 is more typical.

@cvbee: I had no idea that EBF would effect mini-pill effectiveness. I know people that have never had children, and therefore never breastfed who take the mini-pill, so I'm confused. The Mirena that I have does have hormones, but I've read that they don't enter the bloodstream as much as a hormonal pill would.
Nico is too cute! He looks so excited to be at the doctor, or not.

@LAGS: I used to be able to give E his pacifier when he woke up and he would settle back down right away and go to sleep. If he didn't settle I knew he was hungry. Now he never settles and I've been feeding him every 2-3 hours. I wonder if I'm creating bad nursing to sleep habits now where we never had that issue before. DH is super paranoid about co-sleeping and absolutely will not allow it, so at least I won't have to break that habit... but momma needs some sleep!

Are you ladies still swaddling? In the last two nights E has really started fighting the swaddle at bedtime and wiggling and whining when I'm trying to rock him to sleep. I let him have one arm out last night and was really surprised at how well he did for his first stretch of sleep. He did wake up more often, but when I tried to swaddle his arm back up he cried even more in the middle of the night. Maybe I should try letting him have both arms?

@Mrsdaredevil: sorry can't help as like @cvbee said, Tyler hasn't gotten the memo on rolling over, yet.

@kiddosc: We still swaddle for nights and naps....he gets worked up when tired and the swaddle calms him down. Have tried swaddling one arm out for naps and he bonks himself and wakes himself up after 15 mins....he's 14 weeks today.

@winniebee Lily sleeps 10 1/2-11 hours at night (ideally) and I've been trying to figure out naps as well, and it seems that she sleeps best at night and is least grumpy when she gets 3 naps equaling at least 4 hours all together. Monday and Tuesday she napped really well, and we had decent sleep at night. Yesterday she napped really crappy (1 hour 40 min, 30 min, 45 min) and she slept horribly last night! She had 7 wake ups and wanted up for the day at 5:30 and I couldn't get her back don til 8 Gah! So I'm a slave to naps today! It makes me feel like I can't go out at all til hubby gets home!

On the sex front, we are probably at 3-4 x per week, still uncomfortable in certain angles and usually I don't like to do. 2 days in a row. We're doing pull n pray right now, but it makes me nervous, because we'd like 2 years between, and this is the same method we used before Lily when we got preg within 2 1/2 months of stopping the pill!

@ lags that blog link you sent was really interesting!
@kiddosc what a little cutie pie!
@cvbee we have Lily's 4 month appt next Wednesday. I'm so nervous for the vaccinations she was tiny last time and barely cried, I feel like she's so much more aware this time. Our poor babes!
@mrsdaredevil Lily is the same way with rolling all over the place at night I swear it largely contributes to her crappy sleep, I'm curious to hear any input on this one.
    @regeberadaisy yay for sleep
@cocobee I'm almost positive Lily is teething. Yesterday I felt what I think is a Lil bump in her top gums. She is super drooly, and will cry and cry sometimes and it's tough to calm her. I just started giving her Hylands teething tablets today, and she fell asleep like 15 minutes after I have them so I think that means they worked.

@winniebee: pre-crazy sleep about 11hrs, 730-6/630am. Naps are hit or miss. Usually at daycare they get 3 half hour naps out of her. Considering when she was younger she barely slept OR nap I think a total of 12.5hrs in a day is pretty good for her!

@winniebee: Liam sleeps for about 12 at night, with or two wake ups to eat. He usually goes about 1.5 hours between naps and sleeps for 45 minutes.

@regberadaisy: Liam just rolled belly to back yesterday and I didn't help him. He just all of a sudden did it! I had never even seen him try before.

Uhhgg my joints are a mess. I still have tendonitis in my wrists and now my knee hurts so bad I can barely walk. I may be going to visit DH at work for an MRI.

Well, looks like the days of sleeping in the rock and play are over. The last few daya, Penny has been pushing her self up and out of it when she doesn't want to go in, like after a 1am feeding! I don't want her to get hurt since we swaddle and don't strap her in, so we are trying the paxk and play again tonight. lso, putting her to bed now, about 2 hours earlier than usual and so hoping for success!! Also, using a sleep sack instead of swaddle. I figure we hardly slept last night, so why not mix it up A BUNCH! Maybe then I can join the post a thon tonight!

Epic fail re: my last post. Penny finally went to sleep at 9. 2.5 hours after I went to put her to bed. After 2 failed miserable wake ups in the pack and play, she is back in the RnP. She's not swaddled though.

I have been nursing for nearly 2 hours on and off to calm her down. I am feeling very defeated and run down. I want some ice cream, but imstead I will hope to sleep more tonight and try again tomorrow.

@bpcmarj: oh you poor thing. The longest t has slept in his crib is 2.5 hours. We are on vaca this coming week but my project the first week we are back is transitioning. Let's just say baby number 2 won't be in the R&P!

Put T down at 8 and he woke up every 15 minutes and allegedly has been asleep since 9. I have been giving him dribbles of milk
when he wakes up and now he expects it - like I go in to sooth
him and his mouth is wide open rooting. It's cute but super bad habit! I tried a paci and he spit it out as it I insulted him. Ay yay yay.

Hope everyone gets a little more shut eye tonight!
