@Mae: He's an Australian Shepherd, but pretty laid back for the breed actually. We used to have an Australian Shpherd/border Collie mix (passed away last year) and she was brilliant but straight up insane about herding. Her "job" was the frisbee so she transferred a lot of her herding tendencies to that instead of people, but still crazy!

Has anyone else been gifted a lot of the same items over and over? My coworker came to visit at lunch today and brought me some gifts from people at work since my shower was cancelled. We now have three pairs of these cute little monster PJs! I think these are a different size than the others, so we're keeping them all and they will just be well equipped with cute monsters for the next 6 months or so.

@twodoghouse: aw, well at least the pjs are cute lol. Surprisingly, for as much stuff as we've been gifted/given as hand me downs we have not had much in the way of repeats. we got 2 of the same board book at my shower so I just left one at my parents house for their collection. And I was gifted one outfit that was the same (and same size) as one I'd been given as a hand me down. But its really cute, so meh.

My dog definitely took a backseat to DS and I feel bad but I think we've all adjusted now. She definitely doesn't get the walks she used to but she's a small dog so she doesn't seem to mind. She loves mealtime since DS drops a lot and even gives her extra. Now he also pets her and throws the ball for her. She also gets snuggle time with Mama after DS goes to bed!

This was last week. I near cried when I saw this! How is she 17m and legitimately walking him? They are both so good. Excuse the muddy subdivision, our end of the street got sod end of last year, but these folks haven't!

Our dog still gets his 4 walks a day, he's spoillllled. I have to ease DH into walking him less because I know me in newborn days, I got resentful of the long walks after being home all day with babes, then he'd go for walks for eons (probably not eons, lol) but it cheesed me off! So even last night I got on DH when we all went for a walk together and he wanted to break off to walk walk with the dog (we were just puttering with DD along) and so long as he gets his business done....he's fine!! He's not high energy for the most part, and gets lots of love.

@twodoghouse: We got one sleeper 3x in 2 different sizes. It was one of my faves so I was totally okay with this!

I went to gap today to return some Christmas gifts DD got, had tags, no receipt and got to spend $45 or so, ask me how badly I wanted to buy for kiddo on the inside? Ahhh! Such cute stuff, but nothing I liked was neutral, so DD got it all spent on her. I don't shop often thankfully, lol, otherwise this boy stuff would be HARD.

@Beebug: I would totally just buy the stuff and hide it I went to carters at lunch to buy a few basics for DD and ended up with over $100 worth of stuff for both kids. You can bet i will be hiding it hahahaha. Ah, that picture is sooo cute! Super random question, since our DD's look to be about the same size. What size are her feet? Have you found any rainboots that fit? My DD has such tiny feet that even size 5 (wich is the smallest I can find) are too big and she refuses to walk in them!

  7. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: She is in size 5's now. I found a pair of size 5 rubber boots 2nd hand which she is wearing in that pic, but they won't last much longer I don't think. All her runners and cute shoes are 5's too, I didn't think she would be able to wear them this soon, and she doesn't have a ton of room in them, so not sure how long they will last. I had not seen rubber boots smaller than 7's before I found this pair....for *some* reason I didn't care they were blue either, lol..... I have been told by many they are not made smaller than 5's.

@Beebug: you have a lot of self control! I would've bought a bunch of boy and girl stuff and kept receipts to return "whatever is unnecessary" post baby

  9. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: haha, I guess my DD just has freakishly small feet! I even put insoles in the size 5's and they are still swimming on her. Maybe I will try a different brand of 5's and see if they are a titch smaller.

  10. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: I seriously have not bought a thing secretively (lol keyword) for this kid. I may have a secret, but secret clothes....no. DH and I discussed spending $20 on boy clothes, which I did, everything else has just been neutral onesies!! I thankfully don't shop often, and am super cheap, so that usually keeps me in line!

@cookie_dough: I think DD is getting my feet I have size 9.5/10. She got these adorable pair of toms for Christmas that are 5's and they're already getting tight.....they were supposed to be for the summer! I hope she slows a bit over the next few months, crazy growth spurt the last two months, I should get her up to her growth chart and see how much she's shot up.

  11. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: wow, so much self-restraint on the shopping front! I wish I had that kind of willpower. This is the first summer that DD will be wearing summer dresses (since she was only crawling last summer they weren't convenient) so I have gone totally overboard because the toddler summer dresses are just so darn cute. I can't resist! I'm staying away from the rompers, even though they are just as cute, since I figure we will be potty training and those won't work well. Ya, I'm kind of shocked at how "petite" DD is given that DH is a fairly big guy. I was always really small growing up, so I guess she got it from me. I have a feeling that baby boy will get DH's genes though!

  12. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: I am trying to keep myself in line with the shopping too because of the secret, plus the boy Mom's I do know that have said hand me downs are ours if we have a boy. I know their clothes are/will be amazing, and thankfully with #1 I saw how quickly we went through them, but I can't help but think I won't go a little crazy at some point, lol. DD was "big" 0-4m, then like didn't grow heightwise 6m to a year, and just recently had this growth spurt, but really just in height, she is in 24m onesies, but everything is wide on her. Hopefully she will slow down soon and stay put for summer!

So I picked up some red raspberry leaf tea and made myself some iced tea... omg so good. Although It's only 1 cup tea to 1/2 cup cranberry juice... so it is pretty sweet I could totally drink 4 cups of this/day but I don't know that I want to consume that much sugar (I got no sugar added juice but its still juice so it has 29g/cup! eek). I might just get the capsules and those mostly and just 1 glass of this/day

@Beebug: That picture is so cute! Can't wait until my LOs are old enough to really interact with our dog! Also, good job with the shopping control. Part of the reason I couldn't ever be team green is that I wouldn't be able to wait until finding out to do all that shopping! I really went a little crazy after we found out the sexes with the clothes!

Holy moly, I feel so behind!
Quick update on us since I'm not sure I can catch up with everybody - last sono I was still carrying a whole lotta baby (they estimated 6lb6oz at 33w5d!) and a little extra fluid. Another sono tomorrow. Hoping I'm not getting charged $400 each like @Mae: said.

We started childbirth classes last week and yesterday DH got so overwhelmed/offended by our teacher's style we've decided to drop out. Worked out a refund today and we're starting with a different group next week. The new class doesn't end till I'm 39w4d so we're hoping we make it!

The pet talk is heartbreaking! I've been thinking the same stuff about our cat wondering how to keep her feeling loved. We have some little rituals when I first get home every night and it's so sad to think of her feeling replaced when I have to grab baby before her!

And breast pump - like others, I just called insurance the other day and they said it's just a matter of giving my policy info to one of their approved supply people. I was leaning toward Ameda for the cleaning reasons.

I'm sure I missed loads, but that's a start to get me sort of reintegrated with all of you!

Here's a fuzzy photo from the locker room, haha. Somebody today told me I look like a big belly with little arms and legs sticking out. Thanks?

Oh! And we did start perineal massage. Only did it once so far, and it was uncomfortable, by also felt kind of therapeutic to get into imagining what's really gonna happen down there.

    I'm using these instructions:

@anandam: You look great! Go you for the perineal massage. I am not that brave. I did tear with R but it apparently wasn't enough to have me try this preventative technique.

    @Beebug: So cute!

@Beebug: @cookie_dough: R has a pair of size 5 rainboots (they're camo lol) and she does fine in them despite then being a bit big. It was so hard to find that size, hence the camo.

I'm not too concerned about how our dog will adjust since she does fine with R. She is old though, 11, so she pretty much just naps and goes outside and naps. My FIL also lives with us so she can get attention from him if she feels we're slacking.

    @anandam: you look great!

I read the handout and it sort of just made me more scared... lol I feel like I"m not flexible enough to do that with the belly right now anyways? And it does not seem like something I want to bond with my husband over... sooo yea. Unless my midwives really push it I think I'll opt out hah

@Mae: Yeah, I definitely have DH doing it for me. I guess maybe we're at the extreme end of comfortable with that sort of thing. He's been in charge of my grooming in thr region, too. No way could I reach, either.

@Beebug: awwww too cute!!!! I hope my Daisy (furbaby) gets along with my boy when he arrives.

@anandam: You have such adorable bump! Sorry your childbirth classes did not work out maybe you can find another class with a different instructor?

Ladies, quick question for those of you that will be using cloth diapers; how do you or did you do your FIRST wash? I don't want to get it wrong. Thank you

@anandam: aww cute bump! I read the perineal massage instructions to DH last night. His expression was priceless! I'm willing to try anything that could make delivery and recovery less traumatic but we'll have to see if he is on board to help with that one..

@iluvpink: I wish I could tell you, but I definitely don't remember, and I know I definitely just kept washing until I felt comfortable that we were all set, lol. I just sort of made it up, made sure there were lots of rinses, and went from there.

Also, is anyone having any sore skin on their abdomen? I've had off and on (and on right now) sore skin right under my boobs. Like the area between my boobs and belly. I'm sure it is just getting stretched/pulled by all the belly. But its annoying.

Thanks for all the love, everybody!

@Mae: I have also been super sore in the underboob/overbelly region. It started around 24wks and helped a lot when I switched from a traditional bra to a looser banded sportsbra type. But it's back again, I guess since belly is higher up. Icepacks help me some, though I wonder if that bugs the baby. Underbelly feels sore/itchy, too. I'm waiting for the stretch mark explosion.

@Mrsog: A link for you, courtesy of my sister - http://www.buzzfeed.com/emmyf/how-much-has-riding-the-nyc-subway-destroyed-your-soul
Have you been on the receiving end of "avoided eye contact with a pregnant woman" way too much recently? Though for me it seems more like "pretended to be asleep to avoid getting up for the pregnant woman, elderly woman, and guy with crutches sharing the pole in front of me" sometimes. So annoying. I got super brave and actually asked a dude to get up for me the other day. He was really nice about it and wished me well when he got off the train. I think I earned back some soul percentage from that encounter.

@iluvpink: I haven't bought or cleaned anything yet, but these are the instructions I was gonna use - they say it depends on whether the cotton is bleached (1 prewash) or unbleached (3-5 prewashes). And if you're using prefolds, I think they have to go through the dryer to be absorbent enough? http://www.osocozy.com/care-and-use/

Hey ladies.... Kind of crazy 34 week appointment yesterday. Appointment was for 3:00 but we didn't see the doctor until 5:30, and at that point I was the last remaining patient so she was in no rush. I told her about my trip to Chicago at the end of the month and another work trip I may have to take May 1-2, and she was like, "No." I convinced her that I'm soo not going into labor in April and that Chicago is fine, but she drew the line at me going to rural Massachusetts in May.

As far as having an excuse not to go on the work trip, she started looking at the dating on my ultrasounds to see if she could push my due date up, and she found the biggest ultrasound I think at 18 weeks had my due date at May 4 (crazy!). So then she was like, I could break your water May 5 if you want. My immediate reaction was no, but then DH was exited about having a Cinco de Mayo baby and also that his parents could be in town for the birth, and so I think we might do it! Which means a month from tomorrow I might have a baby!

@Beebug: thank you, that's one way of making sure they are clean

@Mae: I actually got rid off of all the wrapping that came with, without reading it first *forehead slap* but I do remember someone once saying to use hot water first. That makes sense. Thank you and yes! my left side is super sore today and for some reason is every Friday that this little one just loves to make mommy sore for the rest of the weekend. At least he gives me a break for the week! haha

@anandam: ooh! thank you so much for sharing that link

@whodat: Oh wow! I am glad your doctor is willing to do that. Perfect timing since you are going to have family around I cant wait to meet your LO eep!!!!!

  31. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@anandam: lol I work at home so I rarely wear a bra anyways. Although I actually did for a while last night because I had a meeting and I was sitting up a bit, so maybe that is why I'm so sore today.

@whodat: wait.. so your work won't just let you not go on the trip based on doc's orders? You have to actually like, be in labor to not go?!

  32. whodat

    apricot / 365 posts

@Mae: So, it's a deposition that I was going to have to go to, and we're going to have to convince the other side that it's impossible to do it then and there and we need to either do it earlier or by Skype, and a doctor's note saying I'll be practically 40 weeks pregnant would probably do it.

Mostly DH and my Dr. were trying to find a reason for me not to go...I kind of wanted to go but not if I'm having a baby 3 days later.

  33. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@anandam: Love the pic! From what i"ve heard, baby weight estimates are always off...so i wouldn't worry too much about the "whole lotta baby!"

@whodat: glad you are getting out of your work trip! I refused to go on any work trips this time around, since I had to travel to the Middle East last pregnancy and it did NOT go well at all. I think they would be too scared to send me anyways based on my trip last time.

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@whodat: I would think so! I've scheduled 3 trials around my pregnancy, including my telling everyone early that I would not be traveling out of my city (even to another city in the same state) after 36 weeks. All the judges and opposing counsel have been entirely fine with it! I have depositions in town on April 18 and I'm considering having my boss go for me just because the idea of putting on a suit and sitting upright in a chair for that long at that point sort of makes me want to cry.

  35. whodat

    apricot / 365 posts

@Mae: Haha I just scheduled a whole bunch of other depositions for mid-April, all at least an hour away but in the same state at least, and I totally didn't even think about what I'm going to wear! I am down to one suit dress that still fits...May have to make another Target run.

I'm just hoping staying busy will make this month go faster!

Hope every one has a good weekend

I slept with the window open last night and it was soooo nice. It's pouring rain now, first rain of Spring, will hopefully wash away the gross, crusty, dirty snow that is still left!

I'd like to get a few nursery things done over the weekend, and perhaps get some pictures hung on the walls around the house, still haven't done anything since we painted. Time to home-ify!

One week left of work, eeep!

  37. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: Happy weekend to you too! I am hoping to do my last 2 nursery projects (finish up the mobile and one more canvas), and make a hospital list. Also I may go to Joanne's to look for fabric for a DIY ring sling. Decided I wanted one and paying $100 for a rectangle of fabric offends my sense of frugality lol.

  38. Coopersmama

    cherry / 129 posts

@mae- you made me LOL. I feel the same way about the $100 sling. Good thing I inherited one because I was certainly going to DIY it.
@beebug- one week of work. That is so sweet. I am so excited to be done work and go in mat leave, but I will be going until the very end. (Don't work, don't get paid).
Curious minds want to know. What will your kids call you- mom, mother, mama, mummy etc.

  39. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: I got my fabric yesterday and I it!! Got it at Joannes for $20 with a coupon (and actually had a gift card so it cost me 0), and ordered my rings from sling rings.com for like $7. Excited to make it! And excited it will cost me 1/10 of what it would to buy haha. I also am working until the bitter end. Booo lol.

As for what I want my LO to call me... I've honestly never thought about it! I assume mom? Or maybe mama/mommy when she's really little then mom. Mother seems too formal and once they are older mama/mommy sounds kid-ish to me (I had a few friends who called their parents mommy and daddy in high school and beyond and I always found it odd). Relatedly, at my shower, I was opening a gift and my mom was like "That's from daddy." I was like... who? She's like "your father...?" I was like "Oh. I thought I misheard you... I have never called him that in my entire life... lol" (slightly awkward bc it was in front of everyone but I was just so confused because I've literally NEVER called him that ever and he wasn't there, so I thought she said like, dotty or patti or some other name)

  40. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

@Mae: I hate to do this, but I just feel like I need to. That is not the correct type of cotton for a ring sling. I make ring slings as a side business and have actually used that same type of batik (i believe it's called rainbow eye) and it's not safe for holding weight. When I use it, I double layer it with a bottom weight cotton. It will tear if you use it by itself.

EDIT: Here's a pic actually. I backed it with black for a customer
