@Mae: totally agree with @skipra: if you can just get a convertible now and put it in there, then don't spend the money on the base.
cherry / 130 posts
@Mae: Funny you mention car seat....DH said that he was going to do it this weekend, but first he had to transfer Daisy's car seat (our fur baby) to the other side of my car or even his car, well, he put it in his car and since it was such a nice weekend we took Daisy to the park, and on the way there Daisy somehow ended up not in her car seat anymore and instead all over the back seat, so at that point we looked at each other, we laughed and said "yeah lets just go to the fire or police department lol".....better safe than sorry. We could do what you guys did and try to install ourselves and then take it for a quick inspection. That's also a good idea!
P.S. I agree with the girls, just get a convertible now

@iluvpink: Yea it is such a nice service that they will check it for you!! After we got the base installed we did a little lesson inside on how to actually put the baby IN the car seat. Which I *think* I have a good handle on from reading the manual and also hearing friends talk a lot about bad car seat usage. So I taught DH and he decided he ought to try it out... on his stuffed dog. But, he got the dog tucked in all snug and then even did the "overhead shake test" to make sure he was secure and wouldn't fall out. Of course I think that test is best left to test runs with stuffed animals.... we will not be turning our child upside down in her car seat
cherry / 130 posts
@Mae: haha yeah not with your child ... your hubby looks like he is having too much fun with it hee hee
papaya / 10343 posts
@iluvpink: Oh we've been having all sorts of fun with all the baby gear lol. Upthread tens of pages ago are pics of us trying out the crib with the (actual live) dog and the baby carrier with one of the cats. And we also set up our video monitor this weekend in the kitchen to spy on/mess with our cats. They were so confused lol. I keep telling my husband we need to have him practice his diapering skills on one of the cats because he's never put a diaper on before and "If you can diaper a cat, you can diaper a baby." (think Dodgeball...) lol. But we haven't actually done it (yet. We'll see how bored we get in the next few weeks waiting for LO to arrive).

@Mae: lol ... that's too funny! We actually did the camera thing with our Daisy. She just kept coming towards it and leaking the camera .. ewwww but funny!

@Mae: awww, Teddy bear looks comfy and safe in his car seat That's annoying about the second base, but like others have said, getting the convertible for the second car sounds like a great idea!
DH came home Saturday night (a day earlier than planned!) yayyyy! I was SO relieved to have him home. Although, the second half of our week was really not that bad...DD was much less grumpy/fussy as the week went on. And luckily it was so nice out on saturday that we could play outside to pass the time.

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to drop by really quickly to let you all know that we are TEAM PURPLE !!!
Baby boy and Baby girl Apex decided they really wanted to meet us too, so they showed up yesterday at about 4pm, at exactly 36 weeks, weighing about 5lbs and some ounces each. Both babies are doing great and are learning to breastfeed as I speak.
I am officially in love.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Apex: CONGRATS!!!!!!!! How exciting!!!! Glad to hear that everyone is doing well
Eeeeek, I can't believe that we have 3 "May" babies now!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: yay for his early return!!
@Apex: yay!!!! Congrats!!! Do we get to know names??
Wondering if we should start a May arrivals thread now that we have 3?? Gold maybe so people can post names/pics if they're uncomfortable with that otherwise? Or just regular?
apricot / 365 posts
@Apex: Yay congrats!!
@Mae: Gold would be great so we can post names, etc.
My DH's best friend's wife -- who was due 10 days before me -- had her baby yesterday. Healthy and 7.5 lbs. And....I got bit by the jealousy bug. I want my baby tooooo.....
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: aw, yay more babies! I don't know though. I am SO excited to meet our LO but I could really use 2 more weeks lol. I'll just feel so much more ready work-wise. and pack my bag (which i did at least make a list for last night).
I had a brief moment last night where I thought I might be going into labor. We did a ton of stuff yesterday and I was really beat and I think I was having a few very mild irregular contractions. Then I went to bed and I was bleeding (sorry tmi) which I know my midwife had said could be expected in the coming weeks as I start to dilate and blood vessels break. I just had this moment laying in bed like... oh shit. What if I go into legit labor like... NOW? I don't even have my bag packed! I'm not ready baby! lol
cherry / 130 posts
@Apex: Oh my goodness! That's great! Congratulations I cant wait to hear more about them and your birth story. I hope you are all doing good
@Mae: that's a great idea, but I am not a gold member, so can we keep this one open as well, so I can still follow? if not, that's okay
papaya / 10343 posts
@iluvpink: oh this thread will never die! haha. I was thinking the arrivals thread would just be a good place to keep track of everyone's LO's with names and pics. I presume people (most anyways!) would still post over here when their LO is born and share a pic here too if they're comfortable. I have no sense of privacy (obv hah) so you'll definitely see fiona over here!

@Apex: Amazing!!! Congratulations, brave mama! And babies!
@Mae: You and a few others are term now, right? I know you want time to wrap up loose ends, but still, I'm so curious...who's next?
papaya / 10343 posts
@anandam: Depends on your definition, but I consider myself "safe to pop" if she so chooses. I'm 37w1d! I'm betting TwoDogHouse is next though with twins coming!

@Apex: congratulations!
@Mae: I'm not gold either so it'd be nice to keep this open as well.

@Apex: Oh my goodness congratulaions!!! Boy and girl! Eeee!!!
I can't believe we have three May arrivals already!
@cookie_dough: Glad DH is home for you guys!
@Mae: From last page, I cried over car seat installation too if it counts for anything! DH and I installed seat on our own in advance of going to car seat clinic, we read both manuals, made the call on position, went to clinic, person said we got it 98% correct and then said "are you sure that's where you want the seat, it's up to you, but while the seats out, do you want to change the location?" She left us to go to next car and I was like wtf, how did we go from 98% correctly installed to "do we want it here"? and it's not even in our car now. I was a blubbering mess, haha!!
I saw the name Fiona on the news today and thought of you!!
We don't have to do it, but for arrivals and pics we did a private fb group for my DDs due date mama's. Both ran concurrently, that way those who don't pay to HB could still share, except for one who didn't have fb, which would happen here too. We were so good up to about a year keeping things moving, pretty quiet now unless issues arise.
36w today, had my appt and GB swab! Stretch and sweep too! I lost weight, 176lbs, bp was 124/60. Baby hb about 145bpm, measuring 31/32w, got smaller compared to last appt.
Doc said about 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. All means nothing to me as baby gonna come when it wants! I had them from 36w on last time and went to 41w still.
It was literally a stats appt, DD was with me and screeeeamed in fear the whole time, daycare needed the day off, I figured okay...take her, between phone/apps, books, snacks, she'll be fine....so not the case, lol. I go Tuesday next week and hopefully have time to chat then. Booked weekly appts for next 5w!
I was thinking I was going to be next last night, some crazy contractions, I guess they are BH? They felt like solid, painful contractions, no pattern at all, some through night and this morning too. So I guess I can't say I don't know what they are anymore, holy moly they felt like they meant business.

Oh I just went to read my Canadian/babycentre fb May group and a Mom had doc appt this am, no heartbeat, immediate u/s and baby lost omggggg. She is being induced tomm. Hug those bumps tight ladies, hope the best for all of us that we have our healthy babies in our arms no matter how over the next few weeks/month and a bit, oye

@Mae: Love this pictures with the car seat by the way!
@cookie_dough: Yay for DH coming home early!
@Beebug: Ooo I love the idea of a FB group! Glad your appointment went well. I am so sorry to hear about the woman on your other group. That is absolutely heartbreaking
I also had an appointment today. Passed my group b test so as of now no need for an IV! Yay! Babe is still head down. She had me measuring a couple days ahead but no big deal. We talked more about the delivery and such even though I am sure I will not be having this bub early. Getting so close! I have officially entered a nesting phase...I want my house to be clean. Which is totally not me as I am not a cleaner by nature. I vacuumed our ceilings last night. Who does that?!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: I have a feeling you are going to have the baby early, as opposed to late!!! It's funny, I think we have weighed the EXACT same our entire pregnancies. Every time you post how much you weighed at your appointment, I"m the same at mine. I had my appointment on Thursday....lost 1 pound...so I'm at 176 too! Although I'm currently eating a chocolate bunny...so that could change quickly. Oh no, that's AWFUL about the update from your fb group so sad to hear.
kiwi / 619 posts
@cheesetomywhine: hahaha, that is awesome! I don't think it would ever cross my mind in a million years to vaccum my ceilings! I'm definitely nesting...but procrastinating at the same time! I'm feeling antsy about getting everything done, but I have promised myself that I will focus on getting everything ready for my sister's baby shower this weekend and that after that I can focus on our house.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: I just ate two fudgsicles, fair? haha. I have moments of thinking early this time too, but still trying to mentally prepare for late!
@cheesetomywhine: I remember when my nesting kicked in, I was like 39w+ scrubbing the grout all over our main floor, I was like really? But just haaad to do it.
So sad about that Mom....so many Mom's from that group (mind you there are like 105 I think?) have gone early. Earliest was January, and a twin from that delivery did pass Everyone else is still in nicu, but doing okay. So scary. I have moments of impatience, but I know the longer on the inside, the better in most cases.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: mmmm...fudgsicles. today is the perfect day for a cold treat. I was so hot when walking outside at lunch!!! But then snow again tomorrow? insane!
pear / 1586 posts
@cookie_dough: LOL! I did it because my mum makes fun of the dust that clings to the non-flat surface. Totally didn't do it before R was born. Apparently for this babe I am more interested in a clean home? On the plus side she said she'd clean my bathroom! That is a great idea to focus on the shower first. You're ahead of me anyways as we have still yet to switch our room/prepare babe's room/give R a big girl bed. Parent fail right there.
Mmm ice cream. I am finishing a piece of chocolate cake that I got this weekend And I am pumped that it is Easter on Sunday as that means candy!
pear / 1586 posts
@Beebug: Scrubbing grout?! You go girl. Last time at 39 weeks all I did was sit in the a/c and relax.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Apex: Yay so happy for you!! Congrats!
I'll catch up with the rest of the thread later, but I'm going on a few hours in L&D. My contractions are crazy again, but no dilation so that's good. Just getting an Iv of fluids now while the babies are monitored. Hopefully I'll be released in the next couple hours!
kiwi / 619 posts
@twodoghouse: good luck! Hoping that everything is ok and that you will be released!
apricot / 388 posts
@Apex: Congratulations!! So glad you are all doing well. Can't wait to hear names and see pics
@anandam: I am 37 weeks and feel like if he came it would be ok but like @mae I could use some more time to prepare!
I actually haven't moved in to our new place yet! and probably won't till next week so I really need him to just get comfy for a bit longer.
Last week on Thursday I had a growth scan and he was estimated at 6lb 13 oz! doc said a little big but nothing to worry about and everything else is looking good. He was sucking his thumb and we could see he has hair. So crazy we are able to know these things already!
We also did a childbirth class this weekend and I actually found it very helpful. My anxiety has been creeping up and i think this helped just get a better sense of what to except and what to do when I go into labor. even though I'm sure it will all go right out the window when the time actually comes.
@twodoghouse: good luck!! keep us posted!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Apex: Congrats!!!! How exciting to be team purple! Hope you and the babies are all doing well!
@twodoghouse: Good luck!
@Beebug: I like the FB idea too as I don't have gold either. I suppose I could get it though? So scary about that mom in your other group. I know things like that can happen but really nothing can prepare you for it. So heartbreaking.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: Sounds like a great appointment, but sorry your DD was being... difficult lol. Where did you end up putting the car seat? I'd initially thought center, but then realized that my car only allows for LATCH on the left or right, not center. So I picked drivers side because I feel like I've heard that is safer. But then I was talking to a friend this morning and she said she opted for seatbelt rather than LATCH attachment so that she could do the center seat in her car and felt good about that, which hadn't occurred to me... so now I'm like, I don't know! And that is SO heartbreaking about the mom who lost her baby. LO moves so much anymore that I don't worry too much about that anymore, but randomly on Saturday the thought occurred to me that some people still lose their babies at this point and I did start crying. It was like 0-tears in 4 seconds. DH was like wtf is wrong with you? Ugh hormones.
Also I would totally be down for a fb group! I don't really know how to do that though? I'm on fb all the time but I don't use/know a lot about the features. But if someone else started it I would definitely join!
@cheesetomywhine: yay for passing GSB! Haven't gotten the results back from mine but I have a doc appt wed so hopefully by then.
@twodoghouse: hoping that babies calm down and you get to go home soon!
re: nesting-- not I! lol I have no interest in cleaning. I feel like maybe some nesting energy is going towards being a bit obsessive about getting everything done at work? But also that's just good planning. I have no desire to clean. I'm actually considering hiring a maid to come in and clean our house if we make it to the end of April. We used to have maid service on a regular basis and I get emails at the end of every month for 3 hrs deep cleaning for $99 end of month specials. I feel like I would like to come home to a house with really sparkling clean bathrooms and whatnot... but I just don't care ENOUGH to really deep clean. And my husband tries but his idea of deep clean isn't quite mine a lot of times.
re: sweets- still eating all of 'em. I had been so good about not buying easter candy so far (I'd made it all the way until yesterday and only bought/eaten 1 cadbury egg). Then we went to target and somehow 2 bags of jelly beans, a bag of flavored tootsie rolls, and a bag of mini reese's eggs jumped in our cart. Oh and we went and got canolis on Saturday. lol.
Just got home from our last shower! My husband's work threw it, and it was so nice. A bit awkward because it is like 30 people, most of whom I don't know at all, and we're all sitting around a huge conference table and everyone was staring at me and I didn't really know what to say. But everyone was very nice and we got the last of the stuff I actually wanted off our registry (temporal thermometer and activity gym) + some clothes and gift cards. Oh and there was cake. So basically all-round win
honeydew / 7230 posts
I'm home now! Thanks for all the good thoughts! I've had some lunch (because of course I couldn't eat while there!) and I'm about to take a long nap. I hardly got any sleep last night so hopefully I can get to sleep now. The attending said I could take Benadryl if I can't get to sleep, but I don't think I'm that desperate since I generally sleep well.
@Beebug: I'd be up for a FB group too, but I don't know much about setting one up! Glad your appt went well and the BH settled down! That's so awful about the mom in your other group. Ugh, I can't even imagine!
@cheesetomywhine: Glad your appt went well! No real nesting for me, though we're trying to keep the house super clean in case it's go time . I don't want my parents or in laws showing up to take care if the dog and finding our house a disaster. I think my husband has been nesting since about 20 weeks. He was the one pushing to get the nursery and playroom ready. Saturday I got out of the shower and found him touching up the ceiling paint in our bedroom! Um, ok honey, keep up the good work!
@Mae: That's sweet that your DH's work gave you a shower! Though it does sound a little awkward about not knowing many of the coworkers!
papaya / 10343 posts
@twodoghouse: aw, that is so cute that your husband is nesting My husband has always had random moods where suddenly he must CLEAN ALL THE THINGS. Which used to annoy me because it always seemed to be at the most random times when I didn't feel like cleaning and then I'd be stuck between feeling forced to help v. feeling guilty if I didn't. But recently I've been just letting him do his thing bc I really don't feel guilty about not getting up/cleaning at this point lol. So anyways he came home a few days ago with an article up on his "what to expect" app for dads about how dads nest too and they might be randomly inclined to clean things. He's like-- I've been nesting my whole life, I had no idea!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
I can set up the fb group, fb is a pain and I need at least one of you to be a friend before I can set up a secret group. Last time I did this (for a dog club, lol) I made sure I told everyone who had to add me as a friend to get into the group, but by no means do we need to stay friends and no hard feelings on my end. I don't know any other way to get people into the group, without ge friend request and then he invite into the group.
I am going to wall any of you who want in my real name and email, just @ me and I hope I won't miss anyone. Once I have one of you added I will start the page and kite away! Then once you're in, can unfriend no problem if that's your preference
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@twodoghouse: Things must've gone well at your appointment if they let you go home so yay for that!
@Mae: @twodoghouse: DH is nesting too! He is in such a panic to get everything done around the house before the baby arrives. I just want to get all the noisy/dusty/messy stuff done because realistically we can't accomplish everything with my birthday last weekend and Easter next weekend. I'm assuming we'll have at least two more weekends after that but I guess it's cutting it kind of close. I haven't been nesting really but I have this obsession with never allowing a dish to sit in the sink for the past week or so. I am normally much more lax about it!
@mrsog: Hope your little guy stays comfy until you get settled in the new house! Hopefully you have less work to do on the house than we did when we moved but even still it is stressful and there's always something that needs to get done. Thinking of you!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: messaged you my info! yay fb group!
@skipra: I'm playing the weekend counting game too. This coming weekend my parents are in town for Easter so we'll be pretty busy with that. Then we'll have 1 more weekend after that and the next weekend is my due date! So I keep feeling like we have 1-2 more fun/date weekends left. But who knows really!
apricot / 309 posts
@Beebug: put me in. Thanks!
@twodoghouse: glad you were able to come home. Hope you are able to get some rest.
We had a busy weekend celebrating my DH's birthday and the best part is we had a DQ ice cream cake so I've had that as a treat the last few nights. With this weekend being Easter I know it's going to be busy too.
