@iluvpink: Sort of a double-edged sword being somewhat indispensable at work, isn't it? lol
@Glitter: lol aw... that sucks about being put on a diet! I am sort of milking this last trimester for all its worth in terms of excuses for terrible eating. I may or may not have had a piece of cheesecake from cheesecake factory for dinner last night... haha. I was wondering if my husband would say anything about it (he just laughed at me) because at my appointment yesterday they did mention that my cholesterol was slightly high (not HIGH high, but on high end of normal). The midwife started by saying "oh thats due to pregnancy, cholesterol is almost always elevated during pregnancy" but then she looked at my records and the last time i had a cholesterol check was 2 years ago and it was actually higher then. Which she interprets as a pattern and said well hmm perhaps you should work a bit on healthier eating and more exercise. Fair enough, but I have started eating much healthier generally in the last 2 years and so I wonder if my cholesterol has really dropped since then and is only almost up to previous levels now because of pregnancy? And regardless, I'm not starting a diet at 36.5 due to "high end of normal" numbers.... this is the only time in my life i feel totally justified eating ice cream and cheesecake daily and I'm taking advantage dammit lol.
But yay for all your exciting stuff coming up! Your mom and the shower, so exciting! Also be sure to share your maternity pics when you get them! We had ours done last week and no teasers yet-- the wait is killing me

Last day of work over here! Eeep! Decently busy! Having fun day, but productive too!
I still need to post my 35w pic, 36w will be here before I know it, seems to close, but still like a month to go!
I am still not in a rush to be done though, lots to do, and totally happy with this baby hanging around inside yet!
DD was hilarious last night, I washed the new babies crib mattress cover and crib sheet and put it on the crib, she asked to go in, and laid on her belly in the crib, it was toooo cute. She thought the mattress at the highest position was pretty cool too, peeking over the edge. Two days ago she said "brother" when we asked her baby brother or sister, yesterday it was "sister" over, and over, and over....haha.
Anyone with any fun plans for the weekend?! Showers?!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: aw, yay 35w!! I feel the same way about how it feels close but far away. I guess because I don't know when it will be! I am 37 weeks in 2 days--- she could be here literally any time now it feels like! I know it will probably be 3-4 weeks but it could be a few days. Or it could be 5 weeks! lol.
Also omg last day of work! Jealous like woah
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: Awwww, so cute that your DD was having fun hanging out in new baby's bed I haven't let DD in the nursery much, because I want to make sure she doesn't still see it as her room by the time DS gets here. Love the pic too! As for weekend plans....I'm hoping to just survive it
DH SHOULD be back sunday evening...fingers crossed. I really hope that it's nice outside and we can play out there a lot. Super jealous that it's your last day of work too!
@Mae: I can't believe that you (and a few others) are already reaching the 37 week mark. I'm tempted to go back to the first pages of this thread and see how far we've come From posts about nausea and cravings to this!!! AHHHHHHH!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: I know, it feels crazy to me too that I'm here. On one hand I feel like I've been pregnant forever. On the other I can't believe I'm almost done. I also feel like I've never really felt AS pregnant as I thought I would. I don't know if it is just because my pregnancy has been pretty easy or if sitcoms just exaggerate (maybe a bit of both). But I guess I thought by the time I was almost due I'd be and feel bigger than I am, and that my whole body would feel more pregnant rather than just my torso, and that I'd be cranky 24/7 lol. (Not that I don't have my moments, but they are not 24/7)
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mae: that was kind of how i felt last pregnancy. I had no major issues, I never felt that uncomfortable, etc (other than the fact that I was pregnant June and beginning of July and it was BOILING hot here at that time). This time I'm feeling it a lot more hahaha...but I'm not quite ready for the sleepless nights yet, so I'm happy to stretch it out a few more weeks. Every time I wake up in the night to pee I think "thank goodness I get to go right back to sleep now...in a few weeks I will be waking up because of a crying baby and will actually have to stay awake".
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: Yea... I do worry that I've used up all my good luck and if I get pregnant again it will be horrible. And/or it will just be way way harder because I'll be chasing a toddler rather than sitting at home working with my feet up all day like I do now (which I'm sure contributes to the easy time I've had!). Luckily I'm almost positive we don't want 3 so if we decide we want 2, by the time I figure out 2nd time pregnancy sucks it will be too late to change my mind
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: That's the thing, edd is one thing, when babes actually shows? Quite another, lol. Realistically I should be planning for 5-6 more weeks!!
@cookie_dough: Hope you have some good Saturday plans to keep DD occupied!! We have swimming lessons tomorrow am, she hasn't been herself at the the last two weeks, so I hope she enjoys tomorrow. Did DH drive or fly? East or West? Trying to think about 10 hours either direction, Ontario still if west (lol) or New Brunswick?
Thinking about up in night during newborn days versus sleeping through the night now, oh man....in for a reality check soon! I remember being SO blown away with DD how it took like 1.5 hours in early days to feed, change, and settle back down to sleep for wakings, thankfully we got more efficient!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: hahaha...neither! NORTH! yes...10 hours NORTH. (ok, I guess technically NorthWest...but still quite far North!) Probably freezing his butt off up there! They drove up...he is going to fly back if the rest of his family isn't leaving by Sunday, but he assumes they are. Weekend plans are slowly shaping up. My dad is going to take us for dinner tonight, we have swimming lessons in the morning, and Sunday morning are either going to the park or museum with a friend had her son. That leaves tomorrow afternoon to fill
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Does she nap still? DD naps noon til sometime between 2 and 3, so it always wipes most of the afternoon for us.
omg on North, what is even up there? hahaha, that is an awful thing for me to say!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: if only babies would RSVP for their delivery date.. I've started to have a lot of friends/family ask me if I'm still working and when I will go on leave. After enough of them I think my mild crankiness at the unknown has started to peek through and my standard response has been "I'm working until the baby falls out, your guess as to when that will be is as good as mine."
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: haha and cue why we told people a fake due date so they didn't bug us! I debated putting something on fb today about how it is my last day, buuuut realistically only I care and I don't want my due date on anyone else's brain so they don't bug me, ha!!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: Yea I mean.. people aren't really bugging me about "is she here yet?" yet. (If they do my quite cranky standard response will be: Yes but we decided to not tell anyone unless they asked if she was here yet because we're dicks like that.) I think it's just that most people seem to take off a little time before their due date and so they assume I have an exit date? If I worked a different sort of job I might have done that but I can't imagine Ill get to a point where I'm so pregnant I can't sit on my butt on my couch with my laptop and work like I always have-- so why "waste" any of my 12 weeks before she gets here?
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: Ya, there is realllllllly not much up there. Nature. Nature is up there. hahaha. She "naps" from 1h00 till 3h00, but for the most part, she usually just plays in her crib for 2 hours now. Usually she will nap one of the days and just play the other day. But she's contained in her crib, so I can still get stuff done/lie down myself. I find that stretch of 3h00 till dinner time long for some reason. She tends to be cranky and requires entertainment

@Beebug: You look good and I must admit I am so also jealous that is your last day at work! but of course, YAY for you No fun plans for me this weekend. Just have to get my hospital bag ready and set up my office at home, so its ready for me to work from there starting April 21st. BTW your DD is just adorable for doing that!
@cookie_dough: How are you feeling today? Is your daughter feeling better?
@Beebug: that was a good idea of not telling your real EDD, we did something similar, we are not telling anyone that we are having a C-Section scheduled on May 12. We are going to the hospital that day and wait until later in the afternoon when we are in our room to call family and let them know our nugget has arrived haha
kiwi / 619 posts
@iluvpink: Much better today! When I picked her up from daycare last night, the daycare provider told me she had been WORST yesterday than the days before in terms of food (I wasn't sure how that was possible...) Apparently she ate nothing. like absolutely nothing. And she was going on about how she weighed so little compared to one of the other kids who is 6 months younger blah blah blah. Anyways, I left feeling super defeated. But then DD was awesome at dinner and ate everything (a lot of it with her fork...the rest with her hands hahaha) and was in a super good mood the rest of the night. Then today I got a message from daycare saying she ate all her snack. Then I got another message saying she was refusing lunch. Then ANOTHER message saying she talked a lot to DD about how mommy would be "so happy and proud if she ate her lunch" and apparently she ate it! And here is the proof from last night that she CAN use utensils!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: aw!! The look on her face is just priceless. It's like "come here macaroni, get on my fork!"

@Glitter: oy pregnancy diet sounds like an oxymoron
@cookie_dough: My son loves food, but there's days where he won't eat. Kids won't let themselves starve!

@iluvpink: @junebugmama: We're also up there with you guys at 7lbs 15oz by sono estimation today, at 35w5d. In the past 6wks, baby's gained 4lbs while I've only gained 3! DH says the baby's weight correlates to the size of the phallus responsible for the pregnancy.
@cookie_dough: So glad you're having a better day! What a sweet girl she is!
@Beebug: Congrats on finishing work! My midwife today totally unexpectedly said she thinks I should stop working effective immediately, so apparently I'm on maternity leave now, too! Boss wasn't exactly thrilled, but what can she do. I hadn't even talked to HR yet about when I would be taking off, so I guess I'll have to do that Monday. Still haven't quite wrapped my head around it... but it is sort of a relief. My commute and work (very physical, in health care) were getting pretty exhausting.

@cheesetomywhine: Totally feeling you on the PB pie. I discovered that at our grocer a few weeks back and couldn't possibly leave the store without it Did you enjoy?
pear / 1586 posts
@cookie_dough: @iluvpink: @anandam: It is yummy! Of course not quite as good as actual peanut butter pie but I am enjoying it
@anandam: Haha your DH is hilarious. Yay for last day of work, even if it is unexpected.
@Beebug: You look great and your DD is so cute for enjoying the crib.
@cookie_dough: Glad to hear DD is feeling better! R uses utensils but she still likes to utilize her hands. I figure whatever works.
@Mae: I have three weeks left (tomorrow!) and I feel like everyone thinks this babe is going to come early. Which is odd since R was on time. However I just assume I will go two weeks late lol.
On a random note- am I the only one in this group who doesn't work? I had R a month and a half after I graduated college so I have never actually had a real job. Totally feel lame admitting that. Though it is different as from graduation to due date last time I just got to be a stay at home wife and do whatever I wanted whenever. Just curious!
nectarine / 2019 posts
@cheesetomywhine: Not lame. I got laid off the month we got pregnant with J2. I was high up in the company and got a pretty sweet severance package, so we decided it was best for me to just stay home with the kids at that point. I didn't start doing doula work until J2 was 1 or so.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@cheesetomywhine: I don't work either! I thought I was the only one. I was supposed to go back after DS but we had issues with him gaining weight and he refused to take bottles when I did go back so I took extended leave which turned permanent when my company did lay offs.
@anandam: That comment is so funny! Why did they decide you should be done with work? I was having appointments 3x a week last pregnancy and my midwife told me I had to keep working until the end. Like they were so worried about the baby that I had to practically live in the ultrasound office but it was fine for me to work.
@cookie_dough: Aww she is so cute! I know how frustrating the toddler feeding thing can be. DS has been on a food strike the past couple days too. He only wants to snack or drink his milk. It drives me nuts!
@Beebug: Congrats on your last day!!! How amazing does it feel to know you won't need to go back for almost a year and a half?
@Mae: I'm surprised they checked your cholesterol. We used to get annual cholesterol checks at work and they wouldn't test mine when I was pregnant because it would not be accurate.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@junebugmama: That is so interesting. Was your old job related at all? How did you decide to become a doula?
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: not lame! I think there are a few more first time moms who plan to stay home post baby. TwoDogHouse for one... Can't recall who else! I would quit and just run my photog bus part time post baby if we could afford it but we can't. Stupid law school loans lol
@skipra: I asked for it. My husbands work requires us to get it done to get a discount on insurance.
pear / 1586 posts
@junebugmama: Oh nice! Was it hard becoming a doula?
@skipra: Nice to know I am not alone! Sorry to hear about your little man's issues at first. Glad they are behind you!
@Mae: Lol I understand. Don't mean to make you feel bad! I have loans as well, but not anything compared to if I went to law school. As for your cholesterol, DH has his checked at his yearly exam but I don't think I have ever had it done. I figure it is a good thing to know, especially if heart issues run in the family.
nectarine / 2019 posts
@skipra: Not in the least. I started my career while in college working in the manufacturing industry. I climbed my way through the company and then jumped around, from different companies to advance my position. I landed in the telecommunications industry (manufacturing communication towers, telephone systems, etc.) When I had J2 I had a lot of struggles with breastfeeding. I attended a weekly moms group at our local hospital and they eventually asked me to join a volunteer program that gave mom to mom support for woman who chose to nurse. It sort of snowballed from there.
I met lots of woman this way and began to attend births. The hospital where I volunteer actually offers doula services and the head of prenatal education department, who ran the program, approached me about joining and getting certified through DONA. Basically, they offer woman who are on state insurance a free doula. In trade for doing 3 free births per year, you are then on their "preferred doula list", where paying clients search for their doulas. I however, recently agreed to work along with a midwife group as well. I really love it.
nectarine / 2019 posts
@cheesetomywhine: the class is just a long weekend. After that you need to complete the certification portion which involves lots of reading, and attending a certain number of births within a particular time frame. I didn't have an issue finding births to attend because of my volunteer work, however, I know some of the woman I took the class with have struggles getting someone to trust them so early on in their careers.
pear / 1586 posts
@junebugmama: That sounds awesome! I wonder if there is a volunteer type program where I live. I'd love to be able to offer assistance. I generally have absolutely no idea how to find out about these sorts of things so I appreciate your explanation
With R, we actually hired a woman who was in training. Long story short, she ended up passing out during my pushing stage and had to be admitted. Luckily she didn't have any issues but it was so weird that my husband wasn't willing to hire one for this birth.
kiwi / 687 posts
@skipra: I'm not really 100% clear on why. She was looking at the ultrasound and listening to my report of how I've been feeling (basically the same as you said - some nausea, pokes/aches, but mostly fine), and said, "So...why are you still working? Can I write you a note?" And kind of implied that based on fetal weight and amniotic fluid, induction might enter the discussion sooner than the routine 42wks - maybe that's part of wanting to shift things up. DH and I talked it over and decided that baby and I would benefit more from my rest/relaxation and preparation than from the remaining three weeks of my salary...so we're going with it. He's more excited than I am! I think he worries about me commuting and working and feels relieved that somebody gave us the option to stop.
For you last time, you wanted to stop but she said no you can't?
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@anandam: It came up early in the pregnancy. Some women I worked with had babies several years earlier and it was standard procedure to stop working at 38 weeks or something so when I asked the midwife about it she told me in no uncertain terms that she wasn't going to write me a note to get out of work before baby's arrival. I was induced on Wednesday and they wouldn't even fill out my paperwork as being taken out of work until Friday when DS was actually born. How was I supposed to work when I was in the hospital trying to have a baby on Wednesday and Thursday? They didn't care though so I had to use an extra two vacation days rather than starting STD.
Take advantage of that extra time! I can see concern if fluid levels are borderline or low.

@cheesetomywhine: I'm planning on being a SAHM as well. I actually haven't worked since February (sick leave) but I'll be on the payroll until August or so. If I get a flexible and part time arrangement I might continue but that is not highly likely.
cherry / 130 posts
@cookie_dough: awww she is so adorable! Kids have their days, but I am glad she doing better with her eating
@anandam: haha I know what you mean. DH doesn't think I can actually carry such chubby baby because of my size but hey! Its happening
@cheesetomywhine: I sometimes wish I didn't have to work and stay home and be with my nugget forever so don't feel so bad. Being a SAHM is much harder than having a 9 to 5 job. I have friends and family who stay home, so I know its not always easy.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@cheesetomywhine: Mae's right - I'll be a SAHM once these babies arrive. Technically I'm a stay at home dog mom now that I'm on bed rest! I don't know yet how long I'll want to stay home. We are going to reevaluate and see how I feel not working in a year.
pear / 1586 posts
@Glitter: Nice!
@iluvpink: Thanks for that. My DH is of the mind that I have it easy all the time
@twodoghouse: Aw a stay at home dog mum! I love it. I guess that was me, plus a cat, before R was born lol. Soon you shall have your precious babies!

omg ya'll. Who here has installed their car seat? Who here cried while doing it? lol
Okay so I didn't exactly cry but it was way more annoying than anticipated. I mean it wasn't actually that hard to do once we figured out what to do. But the figuring out wtf to do was such a huge PITA! Of course there isn't just an easy 1, 2, 3. It's the car seat manual referring you to the car manual, and the car manual referring you to the car seat manual. And of course the car manual only shows forward facing infant seats (weird???) which was confusing us. I **think** we got it in and done correctly, but I'm making an appt with the local fire station this week bc they will check to ensure it is properly installed.
Also I'm bummed bc I got an extra graco base from a friend who assured me it would work with my car seat (which was sort of part of the reason I got this one, bc she had offered me her extra base so we wouldn't have to buy one for dh's car). And we got that one all installed before we realized that it doesn't actually work with the seat. Boo. So I think we need to buy another base so DH can easily have her in his car if necessary. Sort of annoying bc I think it will be EXTREMELY rare that he'll have her in his car until she goes to daycare at 4 mo... but best to have it just in case and she will need it from 4mo until whenever we switch to a convertible seat so I guess we ought to suck it up and buy one.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: Installing the car seat is a total PITA! Can you just get a convertible now to put in the other car? You will use it in the future anyway. We didn't get our second car until DS was almost out of the car seat but honestly the second base was not necessary for us. I wish we'd just gotten the convertible earlier.
@twodoghouse: I was so ready to go back to work right around a year and I feel like it would be better for DS now at 19 months to be in daycare a couple days a week but we can't afford it if I'm not working. My friend with twins went back just after they turned a year and she is loving it. I think it's a good time!
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: That is a super excellent idea! I hadn't considered that, and I think that may make a ton of sense considering how little she would be in his car. I think we'll totally look into doing that!
