    @Beebug: @cookie_dough: I am jealous of your mat leave! I can say that I would not be a SAHM now if we had better mat leave. My boss was awesome and kept me on unpaid leave for a really long time and we were discussing my return when I got laid off. I am ready to go back to work but at this point I don't think it's going to happen. You are so lucky!

    @Keds: Wow! That is obnoxious

    @Glitter: I was hoping you'd be surprised by a good reaction. I was so nervous about announcing my pregnancy last time at work but the reaction was extremely positive. I was hoping for the same for you.

    This time I don't have to worry about announcing at work but I am afraid of some of the reactions of our families. We really are not ready to have #2 yet and things are strained with DH's family right now as it is, mostly because of DS. I want to put off telling them until it's impossible to hide but DH wants to tell them when we tell the rest of my family. His sister is the worst. Her reaction when we told her about DS was that we really sprung it on her and what were we going to tell her next, that it's triplets? Gee...thanks for the support.

    @skipra: Maybe tell her via email or a phone call before telling everyone else? I don't know what her specific issue is, but I've been told by a friend struggling with IF that it is easier to hear online/on the phone so you don't have to fake it as much, and can process things before having to face the person. I'm planning to do the same with my brother. He and his wife have been trying for 2 years and they know we haven't been so I think they (his wife in general) may take it poorly. I plan to call him privately to let him know and let him tell his wife and give them a few days before my parents come down this weekend so it's not like-- a big announcement at breakfast they have to fake their way through if they're upset.

    Hi! Can I join the May party?? I am 5w1d with my first. I got my bfp last Sunday and I'm due on May 18th. I'm super excited but also a bit anxious!

    @Mae: thanks!! My husband and I are super excited but we definitely have lots of questions and a LOT to learn! My first appt is on Oct 7th so I'm counting on the fabulous people of the Internet to help me out until then.

    @caity713: Congrats!!!

    @Mae: DH did tell her over the phone because we were aware that she might be sensitive to it. She sent some kind of mean text messages in the following days so it was really uncalled for. She is older than DH and unmarried, who knows if she'll have kids. So we know it might be a touchy subject, but it doesn't give her the right to be mean to us. Since then she has ranged from being totally overbearing (because she was so excited) to really difficult and downright nasty and disrespectful. We are not even really on speaking terms right now. It's pretty sad.
    I think your plan to tell your brother is very good and respectful of their situation. I think most people can put their own struggles aside to be truly happy for their loved ones. Especially since they will have a new niece or nephew! Good luck with the announcement

    @mae Could you get creative with your mat leave? My friend ended up working through most of her first one and getting paid nothing, so she negotiated with the second one. Basically, she was off for two weeks after he was born (used PTO time). Then, she started working three days a week from home for the next few weeks, then going into the office one day, etc. She isn't a stay home type (she was dying to get back to work after her mat leave the first time) so it might not work for everyone, but her thought on it was that if she had to work, she may as well be getting paid for it!

    @caity713 Welcome!! You're due on my birthday!

    I am traveling with our COO this week and I had to tell her. I just felt like it was really obvious that I wasn't drinking? She was pretty supportive, which is good. She just needs to keep her mouth shut for the next 5 - 6 weeks and we'll be all set!

    @caity713: welcome!

    @skipra: @Mae: we have a similar situation with SIL. She and her husband were TTC for a year until she went through surgery to remove fibroids... The month after surgery he admitted to having an affair and within less than a year remarried. The confession came 11 months ago so it's all very fresh. I try to be very careful about bringing up the pregnancy. Though she is really happy for us I'm sure she's going through her own... Stuff.

    @skipra: oh man, she sounds difficult to deal with. Some people, smh.

    @Glitter: wow. rough situation. so sad.

    @tarabonno: yea I think I might need to do that. I think it will be sort of an ongoing negotiation honestly.

    I had my first appointment today! Well, sort of. About 30 minutes before the appt the office called to tell me the nurse couldn't see me today but I could come in for my sono if I wanted. Super bummed bc I spent the whole evening before trying to calm my nerves and bc it was quite a feat for both DH and I to get off work. But no way were we missing the chance to see this little thing. Once we got there we still waited for 40 minutes. It really made me question using this particular office. I have some Dr. research to do now. We got to see the sono technician and I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound. We got to see the little blob! and a flickering heart beat! We even got to hear it! 138 bpm--I don't think that is super high, but in a good range. I'm measuring 7weeks 1day, just as suspected from my O date. DH was pretty overwhelmed by the experience and cried pretty much the whole way though... so sweet. He's been excited since bfp, but a little distant. Now he wants to tell the world. I have to go back in a week and a half to see the nurse and the doctor.

    Good luck to all the upcoming appointments. Can't wait to hear about your little ones.

    We're calling ours "the pine cone", and sometimes it's "piney". Not sure why--we love nature so he name just felt right!

    persimmon / 1281 posts

    @MRSHONEYBEAR: oooh glad you both were able to see "piney" and hear a heart beat!! That must have felt amazing!

    Ladies, need your help/opinion in curbing an addiction. I have been majorly craving Jimmy John's veggie subs as one thing that I can eat without feeling ill. I keep getting them for lunch and figured I was good bc it's a veggie sandwich with no cold cuts. But watching them make it today I realized they don't change gloves between sandwiches so I'm really still just as exposed to listeria as if I got a cold cut sandwich. Should I stop with the veggie subs or worry about bigger things?

  21. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

    @MRSHONEYBEAR: Personally I don't worry about that too much. I ate at sushi restaurants throughout my first pregnancy. I never ordered any rolls with raw fish, but I'm sure that they used the same knives to cut all the rolls...Obviously it's totally up to what you feel comfortable with though. I guess if you really wanted to, you could ask them to change gloves before making your sub? Now now I have a huge craving for a sub. mmmmmm.

  22. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @MRSHONEYBEAR: I've heard that places like that are less likely to have a risk of listeria because they are so busy that the meat is constantly getting used up and it doesn't sit out very long. That being said, I'm not personally eating cold cuts even from Jimmy Johns. I'd say keep going and just ask them to change their gloves. If they give you side-eye just say "I'm sorry but I'm pregnant and not supposed to eat anything that has been in contact with cold cuts." If it makes you feel good, AND it has veggies-- EAT IT! Right now the only thing that makes me feel good is everything bagels. Fail. lol

  23. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

    @MRSHONEYBEAR: I would probably try to make my own at home mainly because it would be on my mind so much otherwise that I wouldn't enjoy it. It's my first pregnancy so I'm trying hard to follow the million stiff and stuffy rules. Honestly though, as pp suggested you could just ask them to change the gloves.

    So I wasn't supposed to hear back about my betas until Thursday so I left my phone in my office during a long meeting today. Come back and find 2 voicemails from my doctor! I almost had a heart attack. But she got cut off on the first one and called back, said my numbers increased as they should and she'd see me October 7th. WHEW!! Although I really wanted to know what the numbers actually were. Oh well no use obsessing if she thinks it's fine.

    In other news I totally ate a Jimmy John's beach club unwich for lunch and loved every bite. I seriously am not concerned about the miniscule chance of listeria (but not judging those who are!). Seems like all the listeria outbreaks are random things like lettuce and celery anyway.

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @whodat: yay! So glad to hear things are good.

    Also can I just say this week is c.r.a.w.l.i.n.g. by for me? I think it is less even my u/s on thursday than the fact that we're telling the rest of our family after the u/s and I'm so freaking excited to be done keeping this secret. I am a horrible secret-keeper! 2 more days!

    @MRSHONEYBEAR Hooray!!! I love that it really made it real for your husband. Piney is too cute. Did you get a picture??

    @Mae Hooray for you!! We have a few more weeks left, and I totally feel your pain. One bummer part is that the excitement is sort of dying down and I've almost slipped and said something a few times. Yikes. I'm sure it will get exciting again once we have people to celebrate with!

  27. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @tarabonno: I know how you feel! I think that is what makes me so anxious to tell people. Right now it just seems like a normal part of my life and it's really hard to have to monitor what I say when I talk to people. Plus I just suck at waiting. So far the first 4 days after I found out took for-ev-er (waiting to tell my parents) and this week has taken forever (waiting to tell the rest of our fam and close friends). The 3 weeks between where I wasn't waiting to tell someone flew by, so I'm ready to get this clock rolling again and get the f out of this sucky first tri haha.

  28. MRSHONEYBEAR

    grape / 99 posts

    @cookie_dough, @Mae, @Glitter, @whodat: Ha! thanks ladies for indulging the sandwich conversation. I think I'm in the camp of really not caring too much about the listeria risk in relation to cold cuts but I'm certainly going to keep peeking behind food prep areas and probably not blatantly ordering ham sandwiches from shady places. I thought about asking them to switch gloves but then I thought I'd probably get a death glare and maybe a spit sammy.

    What kind of provider will you see?: i love the obgyn i saw last time around and plan to go back to her again. we had a really good experience with her, her office, and the hospital, so hoping for a repeat this time.

    When's Your First Appointment?: probably mid-october. i need to call this week sometime. It will probably be around 8 weeks.

    What kind of birth do you want?: i am hoping to go into labor on my own this time and avoid a c-section but mostly hoping to have a healthy baby and mama when it is all said and done!

    What You're Most Excited For: watching my LO become a big sister! adding to our family, going through pregnancy again and savoring the stages

    What You're Most Scared About: loss, managing first trimester fatigue and chasing a toddler, possibly moving next summer with a very pregnant belly or very small baby...

    Symptoms so far: super sensitive pregnant nose, a little more tired but that might not be the pregnancy...

    Any fun plans for the end of summer/fall?: looking forward to the cooler weather here, nothing super exciting

    Share a picture of your bfp, announcement, &/or chart: i posted my bfp on the sept poas board.

    @cookie_dough: Thanks! Talking to my friends with 2 under 2, I think it will be a challenge but fun too!

    @Mae: Good luck! I looked back at my weekly pictures and I think I could have totally hidden it until 18 or 19 weeks but not sure if it will be the same with #2. Last time I was pregnant in spring/summer so maybe it will be easier with winter clothes.

    Its appointment day for me! taking a 1/2 day of work and going to dr. at 2:45. I am so nervous and excited. Just praying everything is in the right place and looks good. I asked DH the chance of me crying and he said 100%. I am an emotional person anyway and once you start pumping these hormones into me forget about it - I havent been able to stop!
