People just have no couth! I say just be nice to us pregnant ladies out there! We do not need any comments on size - thank you.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
People who comment on size of a preggo lady are so ballsy!
I haven't had any of that yet, actually had a lot of people still just finding out this week, so that has been fun! I have less than 3m left at work, it's too crazy!
Got a call from Lowe's that window coverings for babes room, and our one bathroom are in, that was super quick, so will pick those up soon. Not likely today, we got another heap (like a foot?) of snow today, so keeping the driving to a minimum! Everyone told to go home early here today.....except me....who lives 2 mins down the road, lol, I can't complain!

@Beebug: I'm counting down to maternity leave as well! 51 more days and then I'm out for good as long as all goes well.
papaya / 10343 posts
haha so crazy to be thinking about maternity leave already! Although I admit every time I get a particularly annoying request I get a little "omggggg can't wait to turn the auto responder on my email and not do this shit for a few months" feeling. I plan to work up until I go into labor basically so prob 3-ish months?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
It's crazy our mat leave's will be coming! I meet with HR on March 20th to set up all my stuff, and my unpaid leave after! I have two of my biggest work events I am planning March 1st, and March 5th-8th.....after that? Clear sailing into mat leave. Just planning and organizing (two things I love!!!) until I am done. I think I decided on May 1st as my last day! My last few weeks will be 4 day weeks (Good Friday week, Easter Monday the next week, and the next week my last day will be the Thursday! It's going to come faster than I'd like to admit given what has to happen between now and then!!
Off to pick up DD! DH usually does, but he is daring the commute home, so I am not having him drive any longer than necessary even though she is pretty much on the way home. 2 mins from my office, so not far for me either!

I finally remembered to take a bump picture...25 weeks and 4 days! I wish I had taken regular pictures last pregnancy so that I could compare...although I'm sure I'm quite a bit bigger this time around. And I am definitely gaining weight everywhere...not just in my belly! Must cut down on brownies. Tomorrow.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: you look fabulous! And I don't know what you look like non-preggo but you look all belly to me
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Well I have a plan to make brownies tonight, so I vote no to cutting down on brownies, ha!!
Love the bump pic! I did take mine earlier this week, just didn't post it!
Ok....TMI post, but I am half worried. Is there a chance a little bit of water of like water breaking water could break/leak? DH and I were dtd last night (so sorry tmi, lol) and more wet than I have ever ever experienced (doesn't make sense on my end it was that much, and it was watery, not...what else it could be) and like I don't know.....it just freaked me out (talk about killing the mood!) I have never experienced anything like that, half debating calling doc, but feel foolish, so you ladies are the one's who get to hear it first....sorry. Baby has been moving, I was up too much through night worried, so was paying attention to movement like crazy. My water was broken mid-labour by my doc for #1 so I have no idea what it feels like.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: Yes, you definitely definitely can leak amniotic fluid, although I think it is not very common. They have like test strip thingies they can use to see if there is amniotic fluid present in the area. I'd call your doc and see if they want you to come in to check just to be safe? Honestly our hormones are all so whacked out is prob just overactive discharge or something (see last page's discussion lol). But I'd call just so I wouldn't be worried about it.

@Mae: aw thanks. I can definitely see in this pic that my arms have gained some weight (not that they were super toned before haha). ah well, it's totally not a big deal, and I'm not going to worry about it...or try not to at least!
@Beebug: yay for brownies! I made brownies with a pretzel bottom, and chocolate peanut butter icing. And they are still delicious 4 days later! In terms of the water leaking, hmmmmm...I definitely have no idea, but is it still leaking? Or has it stopped? If it has stopped I wouldn't worry about it. But that's just me!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: yummmm. I made peanut butter squares on monday and they are ridiculously good (like, the kind you get in school cafeterias… hah)
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Totally stopped, was just a one-time thing last night. I just chatted with my boss about it too and she said it should be ok, just call if I really want to, my work is 2 mins up the same road from the hosp I will have baby at, she said pop down worst case and get checked.
Ok what did you do to those brownies? Pretzel where and how and icing what? Tell me more.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Ok, and I promise to never combine two topics like that in one post ever again!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: Hmmm if it is totally stopped I'd be less inclined to worry about it. And I'm a worrier. But I would probably still email my doc just to be sure. I'm paranoid though.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: Email doc? How cool! I can email our dog's vet, but not my doc, haha!
Ugh...about to dive into some meeting's for the day, bleh.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: yes, I that we can email our docs! I hate the phone and I also always feel more neurotic calling and waiting for a call back (esp since it is usually several back-and-forth between me-nurse-doc). So nice to just email like "ehhh this happened, its cool right?" and she's like "yep you're good" hah
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: haha, yes, quite the topic combo I used a combination of two recipes. For the second, you can really use any brownie recipe.
http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/triple-layer-pretzel-brownies - this recipe calls for just a package of brownie mix, but I made it from scratch instead using this recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/hersheys-best-brownies-131829 (minus the icing of course)

@cookie_dough: Um, those brownies sound amazing!
@Beebug: I hope everything's ok! I'm glad you haven't had any more leaking!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one getting these comments. Can we have a national PSA telling people it is almost never appropriate to comment on a pregnant woman's body?
Here's my gargantuan bump, on my way to my 25/26 week appointment.

@cookie_dough: @whodat: Love your latest bump pics! You look great!
I'm 26 weeks today and took a bump picture, but this dress I'm wearing makes my bump look crazy. Or maybe my bump really does look this crazy and it's not the dresses fault, haha. But it looks like my bump starts right under my boobs! It sort of does, but I don't think it looks this high up usually.
(Ignore my socks and leggings combo, I put on boots before going to work! Also ignore the double pack n play taking up all the room in our nursery. We put it up the other day and were too tired to take it apart, haha)

@cookie_dough: @Mae: @twodoghouse: Thanks!
@twodoghouse: Looking cute -- you've got twins, right? I feel like my bump starts pretty high too. Anyone else already getting Braxton-Hicks? When I get them I can feel my uterus starts about halfway between the top of my rib cage and my belly button, which is way higher than it was just a few weeks ago.
papaya / 10343 posts
@twodoghouse: so cute! I don't think I've worn a dress since I've been showing.
@whodat: I don't think I'm having braxton hicks. At least nothing that I have noticed? I feel like my uterus is really high though. I've gotten kicked a few times very close to my ribs!
apricot / 365 posts
@Mae: I think it's normal not to feel them until late, or not at all, with your first baby. I didn't feel a single one with my first, but felt a ton of them with my second starting around 3rd tri, and now they're starting even earlier than that.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@whodat: Thanks and yes, I'm having twins!
@Mae: I wear dresses all the time, but I'm mostly squeezing in to non-maternity dresses because they are actually more flattering somehow. The maternity dresses end up looking like huge tents, which is why I had to sort of clutch my under belly in that pic!
I don't think I'm having any Braxton-Hicks, although sometimes the top of my belly is really hard. It's usually after eating, though, so I don't think it'd be B-H?
kiwi / 619 posts
@twodoghouse: Love the bump and that dress is super cute! I find wearing dresses so much more comfy these days. Although I HATE maternity tights, so I wear them all with leggings.
I made the mistake of wearing the "lower band" maternity pants the other day (i.e. the ones that just have a stretchy band around the waist and not a full panel) By then end of the day I had a huge red mark all around my belly and my incision from my previous c-section got SUPER itchy and red and was driving me nuts. haha I will NOT be wearing those again. Full panel all the way from now on.

@cookie_dough: @whodat: @twodoghouse: Wow you guys all look GREAT! Totally all belly!
@Beebug: I'd think that it's probably nothing if you haven't seen anything else. I think extra discharge is common probably especially in the heat of the moment? I'd probably call the doctor just to be sure but I'm a total worrywart!
@whodat: I had some Braxton Hicks a couple weeks ago but haven't noticed any lately. Same as with DS I get them when I hold my bladder too long so I've just been more careful about that since they started.
@cookie_dough: I am still fighting the full panel pants! They make my belly so itchy, I can't stand it. I have a couple pairs of each type of jeans and mostly wear the ones with just the 2 inch band but I think they are a little too big so they don't squeeze to tight.

@cookie_dough: @whodat: @twodoghouse: Love the bumps! everyone looks so great!! I love wearing dresses now - some days I just can't think about wearing pants lol
I think I have had BH. I don't really know what its supposed to feel like but its almost like a sudden cramp but not really painful just uncomfortable. If its not BH then I don't know what it is!
I just got word that my shower is going to be April 5th! I will definitely be moved into the new place by then so I'm really excited! I'm just thinking about how huge I am going to be then!
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: You look great!
@mrsog: yay shower! I'm so excited for mine. Both because I think it'll be really fun to see everyone, and also because I'm sort of anxious to be all set up, and I feel like I can't/shouldn't buy anything until after my showers so that I know what other people got me first. I'm having a family one (for both sides) March 8 and then one of my friends is throwing me a casual couples shower March 22.

@skipra: You look great!
@mrsog: @Mae: Yay for baby showers! I think I actually have PTSD from all the baby showers I had to attend when we were dealing with infertility for those two years, so I have sort of mixed feelings about mine. Showers are sort of weird for me anyway because I hate all that attention just on me, but it will be nice to start figuring out what we have for the babies and what we need to get. Is anyone else having a lot of showers? I have one on Feb. 15 with my husband's side of the fam, one mid-March for my side, one late March with my coworkers and now my girlfriends want to throw one too! I think for my girlfriends I'm going to see if we can just make it a dinner party with the SOs instead. I think I will be all "formal baby shower"-ed out by that point!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@twodoghouse: We had four showers with #1. All were after she was here 3-6w after she was born), so it was nice to have her to pass around and sort of take the focus off me? 2/4 were at our house, so family/who was hosting sort of swept in, decorated, and did it all and I didn't have to go anywhere which was really nice!
Had four wedding showers too, I am guessing we will do some sort of Open House/meet and greet for #2, but hopefully no one wants to host a sprinkle or whatever for #2. I am beyond grateful for them, but definitely not hoping for any more in my lifetime!
papaya / 10343 posts
@twodoghouse: wow 4 showers! I guess technically we are having 3, because we have the family one, the friend one, and then my husband's work always does a shower that I'll attend as well. The work one I sort of don't count though because it is super casual, just everyone gathering in the conference room for cake and then I think they all just chip in $5 for a gift card (at least, that is what our wedding shower was so that is what I assume will happen this time too). Very sweet but not something Ill think much about.
Luckily my husband's family doesn't really think about throwing me separate showers for things. For our wedding and now this too, his step mom just sends my mom her guest list and has them all come to my mom's shower haha. It makes a little more work for my mom, which I feel badly about but try to help. But my inlaws live like 3 hrs from us so I'm glad we don't have to block out another weekend to travel up to them for a whole separate shower.
@Beebug: a meet n' greet would be nice! Also sort of nice that you had your showers post-babe last time so people could meet her! We don't live near family so I'm not really sure how that will work with extended family. I'm sure we'll head up to my parents' area and do the rounds with my grandma and aunts at some point over the summer, but most of my cousins probably won't meet her until next Christmas! And we usually don't see my husband's family at all except for Christmas so that may be when they meet her too! haha (except grandparents obviously)

@twodoghouse: I only had one shower, but I'm the same as you...I really don't like all the attention being on me, and I was super nervous about having to sit there and open gifts in front of everyone. My sister planned my shower for me, and she actually made the "gift opening" part better for me by organizing a gift bingo. So every time i would open a gift, everyone would check things off their bingo cards...so they were kind of distracted by that and I felt like it wasn't just everyone staring at me opening gifts.
Now I'm trying to start planning my sister's baby shower! I had a theme all set if she was having a boy, but now that it's a girl, I have to think of something else!
@skipra: You look amazing as well! Everyone's bellies are looking so beautiful

@cookie_dough: @whodat: Our bumps look pretty similar, mine's right up at my breasts, too. Seeing I'm not alone gives me hope that I'm not actually growing a 14lb child!
@Beebug: This sounds a lot like what happened to me when I soaked my pants on Tuesday. We DTD in the wee hours and I just went straight to sleep. After discussing with midwives we agreed I didn't need to come in for evaluation. Basically the idea was that there's lots of extra folds in our vaginas from all the hormones and sometimes they hold onto fluids (mucus, semen, arousal fluid) and then we gush later if we turn a certain way or whatever to release it. Unless it keeps trickling, they said it's very unlikely amniotic fluid. That said, how gross that I was siting at work seeing clients soaked in semen? Good Lord.

@Mae: @twodoghouse: @cookie_dough: Thanks!
@mrsog: @twodoghouse: Yay for having your showers planned! Will your DH's be there too? We had one big shower that my sisters and mom planned, one small one with DH's family, and a work one. I HATED being on display like that, especially the work shower where I was on my own without DH to share the spotlight.
@Beebug: Love the idea of having an open house to meet the new baby. I was thinking something like that might be nice but if I'm anything like I was with DS I won't want the baby to be passed around. He was super small so we had to be careful that he didn't get sick so I was totally paranoid at first. Did you have any issues with your DD being so little around so many people?
@cookie_dough: Love that idea of gift bingo. Will have to keep it in mind if I ever plan a shower.
Does anyone have any big appointments coming up? On Monday I have an ultrasound at the hospital to check on the placenta and see if there is (still?) a cyst and then I have to do the glucose test and have my regular appointment with the midwife. It's going to be a busy afternoon!
apricot / 388 posts
@anandam: hahah that one had me laughing at my desk. Amazing what is actually happening to our bodies that people can't see!
@skipra: DH won't be there. it will be a pretty traditional shower with my family, DH family and some of my friends, probably at a restaurant, though they aren't telling me where. He will probably go to a bar or somewhere for lunch with mine and his dad, BIL and any of my friends SO's that he is buddies with and then come by at the end to say hello and load up the cars.
Also on Tuesday I have my 28 week appt so I will be getting the rhogam shot and I have the glucose test. fun stuff!
papaya / 10343 posts
My next appointment is on Monday! I'm having the rhogam shot and the tdap vaccine. Then on the 19th I have an appointment to meet the midwives at the practice I am considering switching to! I'm pretty much sold so unless I walk in and they just give me an off-putting feeling for some reason, we're going to go with that. Excited to meet them and get the ball rolling in that direction though!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@anandam: Reassuring! Thank-you!! I have been feeling totally normal, and definitely nothing since, thanks for the reassurance and story!
@skipra: I had heard/been around Mom's who weren't into handing off baby that early/ever at all, and I always felt very guilty being so willing to hand her off. Everyone was very good with hand washing and not coming if sick, so we didn't have any issues, and I was happy to hold a cup of tea with two hands and see her from across the room, lol.
I had a friend who didn't leave her DS for 8 months after he was born.....not once......DD was less than a week old and DH and I took the dog for a walk (his parents were at our place) and I remember bawling on the walk feeling sad about wanting to get away from her already and that I wasn't going to be a good Mom, lol.
Things like that I won't miss about being a ftm. Knowing the insane emotion part passes....thank gosh!
I have an appt February 18th I think! Just a check-up!
