@Mae: @Glitter: We never used a rnp - I never even knew it existed with my 1st. He slept in the vibrating bassinet thing from the pnp for about 6 weeks. One day I sent a pic to a friend and she noticed he barely fit in it. Whoops! When I checked the weight limit, he had almost exceeded it!
There are so many options out there! You never know what your baby will like and what would be most convenient for you. It would be so much easier if they did come with manuals. I'm still debating if I should get something else too or just stick the baby straight in his crib.

@Mae: not to freak you out or anything but I just typed "is the rock n play safe for overnight sleep" in Google and this came up. Not sure how reputable the site is though. http://pediatricinsider.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/the-fisher-price-rock-n-play-sleeper-is-not-for-sleeping/
The minicosleeper is recommended for use up to about five months and the regular cosleeper goes til the toddler years. I've justified the cost (somewhat) by the ease of nightime feedings and well we hope to have at least three kids so that adds up to about fifteen months. Not bad for 130. Average of less than 10 dollars a month lol. We're not getting the one with the play yard feature but that's an added bonus of one chooses to go that route.

@Mamasig: straight in the crib from newborn? I thought pretty much everyone kept the baby in their room for at least the first month or so, just for your own sanity not having to leave the room multiple times/night?
@Glitter: Yea if you're cool with your LO in your room for that long and you're planning on having a few, it makes sense! I think I'm just going to be anxious to move our LO up to her own bedroom ASAP so I just need something to get me through that tough initial phase where she is only sleeping a couple hours at a time. Once we have nighttime wake ups down to once or twice/night I think we'll switch and I'll just head to her room to feed her.

We used a plain 'ol bassinet we borrowed from a friend for DD. I would love to find one to buy (though, 2nd hand!) for #2. They are due in July, so I won't ask to borrow again, will try to get by with the PnP napper or PnP elevated part in our room, and then see how things go.
The first few weeks she would only sleep on our chest, so our recliners got a TON of use, I thought I'd never sleep in bed again, and really didn't expect that. We got into something good finally with the bassinet (we think swaddling and sleeping on her back was the problem, she haaaated both) and then when we traveled with her at 9-10w when we got home we just dove into using the crib figuring she wouldn't remember anyways and it ended up working out. We the all over breaking the rules and had blankets rolled up on either side of her propping her on her side to sleep, my doc okayed it all, but it all seemed so wrong based on what was out there!
It will be neat to see how different it is this time, I am trying to mentally prepare for no sleeping again, and that it is not likely to be the same in any regard like it was for DD!

@gingerblonde: Cute bump! We don't have names set yet either. I'd like to have two boy and two girl first and middle combos at the time of delivery. It is hard!
@apex: Love the inspiration color combo.
@Mae: Love the bump. I used a cradle with R for five weeks before moving her into her crib. I kept it near the side of the bed so I just had to reach over and down to get her...though if your bed is really high that may not work. I am sure the RnP is fine! It seems like a lot of mums use it on the boards.
@Glitter: I had my glucose test at 27 weeks this time and 28 weeks with R.
@Skipra: Congrats on the good news at your appointment! Such a relief I am sure
Everything is going well here. R has had a cold the past couple of days so she has been having trouble falling asleep as she is a thumb sucker and one cannot do that while stuffed up. Thankfully my mum gave us a humidifier and it seems to be working as she was only a bit stuffy today! Puff is moving up a storm and I am loving it I got my TDAP booster today per my midwife's suggestion. Not my favorite but apparently it is now recommended for pregnant women to receive a booster opposed to it being a lifetime thing.

@Mae: The only thing separating the nursery from our bedroom is the master bath so I wouldn't have to go far. Honestly, if I have to get up a few more steps is not that big a deal. Maybe that will help Leo like the crib from the start. Who knows. I know several people who had the newborns in their room from the start. It was the only way they got any sleep - newborns make a lot of noise when they sleep. We'll see. I'm just going to play it by ear.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: ah, that's nice then. Our house is a weird floor plan so our LO's nursery is going to be up half a flight of stairs and all the way at the end of the hallway on the other side of the house.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Beebug: I'm scared about the no sleeping again. I heard a little newborn cry at the doctor's office the other day and kind of had a WTF moment - I'm about to go through the newborn phase again. Eeek! I am curious to see the difference between both kids. As a newborn, DS fell asleep easily at night and was a pretty "easy" baby. He really hardly cried and was happy as long as he was full. I'm wondering how this one will be.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: oh, in that case I would definitely keep him in my room! DS' bedroom will now be moved upstairs and we can't stand the thought of him so far away!
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: That makes sense to keep her in your room. I wouldn't want to walk that far in the middle of the night but I am lazy. The nursery is connected to our bedroom so we didn't have far to walk. The new babe will be in that room as well for ease. R is moving across the hallway, which is still close, but seems so far away!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: @cheesetomywhine: Yea… weirdly when we bought this house we DID think about kids but we were sort of thinking about older kids and how nice it would be to be on a separate level from them so we'd have a bit more privacy when they were older and up later. Never thought or discussed LITTLE kids who we might want to hear or be close to at night! lol
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: I'd definitely keep her in the room too if I had to go that far to the nursery. But it's great that your house has a good layout for when you have older kid(s). They are only babies for such a short period of time that it's silly to buy a house based on a nursery.
@Mamasig: @Beebug: I am not looking forward to all the newborn wake ups either. I feel like we're getting a reminder with DS going through an awful teething phase right now. I hope he gets over it soon because I need some sleep before this baby arrives! Did you guys have this problem - when he was a newborn he had a major diaper leak with every wake up so we had to change diaper and clothes like every 2 hours or so. I think it happened because he was so skinny it came out the legs. I'm hoping it's not an issue for all babies!

We had DD sleep in a pack and play from day 1, and moved her to her crib around 2 months I think? I think having her in the pack and play, rather than a RnP, etc helped her be more comfortable in a crib-like environment from day 1, and our transition to the crib was super easy. She wasn't used to being inclined, or all snuggled up in the RnP/bouncer, etc. But I think we totally just lucked out with a great sleeper, because I know that a lot of babies do much better when inclined to sleep. We ended up moving her out of our room because I couldn't sleep with her in there anymore. Anytime DH or the dog would make a noise, I would be paranoid it would wake her up (even though it hardly ever did!) so for my own sanity, we moved her to her own room. She has slept through the night from the time she was about 5 weeks old (other than when she's sick). I really hope we luck out this time too!!!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@skipra: I don't remember having leaks as a newborn except for poop diapers sometimes. But DS has always had chunky thighs. @cookie_dough: I am so jealous of that good sleeper! DS isn't the worst but definitely not a "good" sleeper. Here's hoping the second kids are! DS' initial transition to the crib was pretty easy too - probably for the same reasons you mentioned.

I am planning on having him in the room for the first few months in the bassinett and then transfer to crib which is right across the hall. I feel like plans change though so I don't want to get stuck on something if it doesnt end up working out so I am open to things. Although DH and I both agree that we don't want him in the bed with us. The thought of it actually scares me so I think that will be an easy one to avoid.
I had my 28 week appt this morning and everything went good. Measuring good and fluid is good. I had the glucode test, which I will get the results back tomorrow and the rhogam shot so my arm is a little sore. My doc always does a quick ultrasound and we could see his eye actually opening and closing and it looked like he was sucking his thumb. SO COOL. his head is down and I start appts every 2 weeks now. CRAZY!

We have been going back and forth a million times about where we're going to have the babies sleep. We will probably start them in the bassinets of the double pack n play, but we're not sure if we'll put it in our room or in the nursery. It is really really big and our room is running out of space because we already have a couch in there that our dog sleeps on (so spoiled). Also, I'm nervous about trying to bring them both into our bed for nursing in the middle of the night. And I don't know where we'll change them either - maybe just on top of the dresser? We might try that for a while until we get the hang of things and my husband goes back to work. Once he's back at work I'm hoping to minimize his wake ups in the middle of the night, but that might be wishful thinking! We also have their cribs and rock n plays that will be back up plans in case the pack n play bassinets are a bust. The twin mom we met with last week said to just keep all our options open because we might change our mind and try out 10 different set ups before figuring out what works best.

On the topic of sleep spaces -- I used a co-sleeper with DD and a regular pack and play for DS. I had already sold the co-sleeper by the time DS came along, and figured the pack and play would get more use past 4-5 months, so that's what we went with. But, the co-sleeper was much easier to use than the pack and play because the side went down, which made it easy to reach over and pat her to sleep. With the pack and play I was always having to strain my arm to reach over to DS.
We might try a rock and play this time, since I've read so many good reviews and they have some reasonably priced models. Still have the pack and play but I don't want to use it as a bassinet again.
@mrsog: Seriously, every 2 weeks after 28 weeks? I was just trying to remember when that starts, but I thought it was at 34 weeks. That is crazy.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@mrsog: @whodat: my doc told me the same thing. After 28 weeks it's every 2 weeks. Yay! We are getting closer!
So, I'm still a couple of weeks away from the 3rd trimester, but I can feel myself slowing down. My wedding rings no longer fit, I'm getting that lovely crotch pain at night when I turn over, the belly is totally in the way now, etc. baby boy is a mover, which I love. I hope 3rd trimester flies by for all of us!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mamasig: I was just noticing the other day that my rings were feeling pretty tight, and I think I will have to take them off soon I'm starting to get pretty uncomfortable. Just carrying DD up the stairs is getting super exhausting, and I feel like it's almost impossible to get up off the floor when I'm playing with her! My DH also made the following lovely comment the other day: "Hey, where did your ankles go?" hahaha...wow, the swelling is starting early this time!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@mrsog: Yay for a good appointment! I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and have to go every 2 weeks now too.
@whodat: Maybe it's 34 weeks when you start going weekly or is that 36 weeks? I don't remember.
@Mamasig: I hope baby will move into a more comfortable position so you can at least get a little temporary relief!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@cookie_dough: exactly. DH will be taking over bathing duties soon because getting DS down the stairs plus maneuvering around is getting harder.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: that is so cool you get an U/S at every appt! I won't have any more unless there is a concern. glad everything went well! Weird how some places make you wait for your glucose results though. My doc office just uses one of those diabetes finger poke machines and the results popped up in about 10 seconds. And yep, every 2 weeks now for me too!
@whodat: was the pack and play hard bc the side was taller than your bed? Our bed is so tall I'm wondering if it may actually work better for us because anything else is going to be way too low. I was looking at our bedroom last night and there is actually more room on my side of the bed than I was thinking.. so I think a PnP may work and we may try that with the bassinet thing to start. And we'll still have the rock n play if we need to try that. and realistically hopefully it will only be a period of weeks before we can transition her upstairs.
I really hope that I can maintain my status as a rockstar fall-asleeper post-baby btw. I've always been a person that can be woken up in the night and get up and walk around and go back to bed and be out in under a minute. Like currently waking up 3+ times to pee is no issue in regards to falling back asleep. or if I go get water or if i need to go do something with the pets. I'm hoping that continues post baby so that once I get her down I can fall asleep quickly and max out my sleeping between wake-ups!
apricot / 365 posts
@mrsog: @Mamasig: Yeah I'm just in denial I guess! My doctor scheduled my next appointment 3 weeks after my last, and I guess it will be every 2 weeks after that.
Also I'm a little curious to find out which direction the baby's facing. I know it's early but I just want to know. I was sideways and my mom ended up with a c section.

I left the page up too long before responding and didn't see newer posts!
I am not yet having any swelling and I'm really hoping I don't for a long time yet! I'm going to be so sad when/if I can't wear my rings. I wonder if any of it has to do with my being on my feet so little? Working at home, I work on the couch and I basically live a "light bed rest" life except for a few times/week when I run errands or whatever, or when I have a photo shoot lol. Definitely an advantage over you ladies chasing after kids! I have noticed that shooting is getting a lot harder for me. First, I can't lay on my stomach (obviously) but that makes kiddie pics really hard sometimes bc I like to be on their level. Also my back tends to hurt from the weird positions I contort myself into trying to compensate for the lack of stomach-laying. Also I've noticed when I am out and about for a while… this weird under-boob muscle hurts. Like I didn't even know there was a muscle there, but on my chest/abdomen right under where my boobs are gets really sore by the end of the day-- I'm wondering if just the weight of my stomach pulling on it or something?
@Mamasig: crotch pain sounds really unpleasant, I hope your LO moves soon! I don't think I've really had that? Mine seems to mostly like to kick my bladder to annoy me. Thats is super not fun but I'm hoping as we get farther along she'll turn head down and stop it.
re: doc appts-- mine said every 2 weeks from 28-36 then every week thereafter

@Mae: oh they did a regular blood draw from my arm today. I guess they test differently. I would have prefered a finger prick!
@whodat: My guy has his head down already. Doc said he should stay that way so fingers crossed he does!
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: can't you tell where he kicks? My girl is still somersaulting every 2-3 days. I'll be feeling kicks way down low in the bladder/pelvis region and more just stretching up top. Then I'll feel her roll (or not always if she does it at night) and all of a sudden I'm getting kicked up by my ribs. I think she is head down today and I'm hoping she stays, but who knows
apricot / 365 posts
@Mae: I have no clue. I feel kicks/punches all over, sometimes really far to my left side which is weird. I read a comparison to a rabid mongoose inside a burlap sack, and that pretty much sums up what I'm feeling all day!
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: lol!! well my estimation of her position may be in my head. I do certainly feel her all over, but I generally feel the strongest movement centralized in one area and i always assume that is where her feet are. Particularly because she was kicking my bladder the morning of my last ultrasound and when they did the u/s she was sitting up, feet down, exactly as I'd imagined she was. But maybe that was just blind luck and I have no clue what she is doing in there haha
kiwi / 619 posts
@whodat: My little guy is all over the place too. One minute I'll feel something on my right side, the next on my left. I have no clue what position he's in but he definitely likes to move around a lot.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: you'd know if you had it! It literally feels like my pubic bone is going to break in two. It hasn't been too bad so far this pregnancy. Last time, it would sometimes make me cry.
I can't tell which way little guy is facing. But I couldn't tell last time either. This one definitely squirms and flips a lot.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Mae: I haven't felt any kicks to the bladder - at least not that I've noticed. Hopefully it stays that way. I go to the bathroom enough without having to be kicked there too!
I get an ultrasound every two weeks and the babies are typically in the same area every time. Blake is transverse at the top of my belly and he has a tendency to switch what side his head is on. But Alice has been curled up at the bottom of my belly, head down, pounding on my cervix every time we see her. All their limbs seem to meet in the middle of my stomach, though, so I never know which one is kicking me around my belly button. I feel Blake moving a lot more than Alice, but I'm not sure if it's because of his position, his size (he's bigger) or if he's just that much more active.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: gah that sounds awful.
@twodoghouse: lol yea its not horrible but its not fun either. Feels like when you have to pee and someone pokes your belly hard. Except that I don't even have to pee before she does it (but then I do haha). Thats so cool you get to see them every 2 weeks. Twins are awesome I had a shoot with 6 mo twins this weekend and the girl was definitely crankier than her brother and would fuss any time anyone would touch her-- except her brother! We laid him down next to her and he is flailing about and hitting her and licking her head and she slept through it all. I asked the parents about it and they said that they are both like, totally immune to bugging each other. They never wake each other up or mind when they are touching each other, even if they don't want anyone else touching them.

@mrsog: I have a blood draw for my test too. I took it over a week ago so I am assuming I passed since I didn't get a call? I shall know for sure when I go back on the 24th.
@Mae: I would've preferred a finger prick and instant results! And I cannot tell position at all. The midwife thought he/she was head down. Last time when I was further along the midwife actually showed me how to feel the head so every once in awhile I'd check to make sure he/she hadn't moved. It was cool!
@Mamasig: so sorry that you're so uncomfortable!

Mann... is anyone else wondering how to survive to maternity leave? I have some serious unceasing back pain, and now I also join you @Mamasig: with the pubic pain. Since Sunday I have been limping. Feels like someone gave me a beating with a bat right in the front of my lady parts. I spoke to my sis about it this morning and of course, it's normal, though she did say women who experience it usually do after 30 weeks so it's a bit early for me. She says it is the 'pubic symphysis' widening in preparation for childbirth and I should not do too much walking or heavy lifting, also I could try painkillers (panadeine) but she doubts they will help - awesome
@Mae: I forgot to add yesterday that the Arms Reach cosleeper uses adjustable heights. I believe it starts at 24" off the floor and adjusts by 2" levels up to 32". You can also purchase leg extensions if you have a super high bed.
I'm scheduled to do my GD test tomorrow so fasting from tonight at 8pm! Wish me luck! In fact, wish DH luck. I get super cranky when I am hungry.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Glitter: Good luck with the test tomorrow! I'm going to take mine sometime next week. My OB told me specifically not to fast...funny how everyone has different recommendations.
I just sent the bump pic I posted last week to a good friend of mine who lives abroad and she just responded this to me: "Holy!!! You are HUGE!!!! Thats as big as I was when I gave birth. Maybe even bigger. Did you measure? Maybe it'll be a ginormous baby"
Oh man. And yet it hasn't stopped me from eating several pieces of licorice in the last few minutes ;0)
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: oh man that sucks you have to fast! I also did not have to do that. so weird how variant procedures are! I had coffee and toast like 3 hrs before my test.
@cookie_dough: lol not cool. I never got measured until yesterday and then they still didn't tell me if I was on track. Just said "yep your uterus is growing." Ummm good? hah.
Speaking of poor food choices… I gained SIX pounds in the last 4 weeks. I was really surprised. But I did eat a lot of salty food this weekend so I'm really hoping that some of that was water weight and if I'm more careful before my next appt I won't gain so much next time. Which did not actually stop me from getting a hot italian sub on my way home from the doc appt yesterday. Why does salt taste so good?

OMG you guys have you seen this? She was due May 2.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/11/health/canada-brain-dead-pregnant-woman/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
So scary and so tragic. I'm sure it's just a combo of pregnancy hormones and the fact that her due date was so close to mine, but this one is hitting me really hard. I can't stop thinking about what my husband would do in this situation and how hard it would be for him to do all this without me. Ugh. I guess a big reminder to be grateful that each of us in this thread is continuing on and healthy!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I saw that, crazy contrast to the Texas woman and her baby, they were obviously different timing in the pregnancy when it happened, but it is incredible the baby boy was/seems totally okay. What a tragic situation, and so bittersweet, gosh that word doesn't even seem to cover it.
I had a really crappy/insane day. Someone gifted me Gold and it totally made my day, so if it's one of you ladies, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. I will catch up on posts later, looks like a busy day on here and I look forward to reading!

@Mae: wow that really is so sad. Puts a lot into perspective for me with my complaints about aches and pains. Thank God I'm alive and healthy and so is our baby!
Just started the GD test. My goodness that drink is sweet. I thought I loved sweet but this is something else. Two hours to go.... and I'm hungry!
