DH said his girl name pick for right now is Nathalie!

I like it, but I am not sure if I would like Natalie or Nathalie! I don't mind the 'h' in there, but just kind of think why not keep it simple so she doesn't have to correct the spelling of her name her whole life....if this is a girl that comes out of course, haha! So Colin for boy, Lauren or Nathalie our girl name front runners!

I am so blah today, I am at work, have a whole whack of fires to put out, was out of the office yesterday downtown Toronto all day for another work thing and I ended up driving down with a 2 hour commute home....bleh!! DH is away tonight with hockey, they're into playoffs, so as awful as it is to say I will look forward to DDs bedtime tonight! She is the only one at daycare today (well her plus daycare's 2 year old DD) so hopefully she won't be too tired after a quieter daycare day.

My hotmail was hacked this am too, sent spam to gosh knows who, I can't see anything in my sent and so far what people have just sent me that I "sent". Argh, I need to switch to gmail.

@Beebug: sorry you had a crappy day

@Glitter: Are they having you do the 3 hour test where you do 3 drinks in 3 hours? That really sucks. They let me just do the 1 hr test. 1 drink, finger prick 1 hr later. It is super sweet, I tried to just chug is ASAP. Regardless I hope it is over soon for you so you can get something to eat!

@Beebug: I don't know what ghost pages are, but HB in general has been super buggy for me for 2 days. And sorry for another crappy day! My week is going okay except I'm a little stressed because my parents are coming this weekend and I just have SO MUCH STUFF to get done before they come. And of course I'm spectacularly unmotivated to actually make it all happen.

Re: names-- I love Natalie! I do think the extra h is a little confusing because I've never seen it before and I think I would pronounce it Nath-a-lee… or is that how it is supposed to be pronounced? But good choices regardless!

@Beebug: I love the name Nathalie. If I didn't have a cousin named Natalie, it would have been one of my top picks for girls names! Sorry that you are having a blah day. We've had a rough couple of days as well...DH has been out of town (for a work thing in Toronto!!! hahaha) so I've been exhausted trying to feed/bathe/dress DD and get myself ready for work by myself. Luckily he comes home tonight, but not till after her bedtime! At least the weather is ok today so his flight should be on time. knock on wood.

@Mae: Hopefully today will be a better day, I just have two meetings and going to lock myself in my office all day to put out fires and plow through stuff! Seriously the promotion I came back to work to after mat leave was/is great, but my life revolves around meetings now, I never understood it when my bosses would complain of it, but I so, so get it now....bleh! Doesn't help I try so hard with DD now to not work at home in the evenings, even after she's gone to bed, whereas before it was totally normal for me to work 2-3 hours at home after a full work day....so over that, but times like now I should probably do that again here and there. I have seen Natalie spelled both ways, with the 'h' too, and in my head I say Nath versus Nat even though either way (I think?) it's supposed to be said like Natalie. Having a boy could really just take away all this spelling stuff, lol.

@cookie_dough: I RAN (like as fast as this fat preggo can run) for the go train/commuter rain to get downtown yesterday am, and sure enough as I got to the platform the doors closed. I went to the station closest to me, and they told me to drive to two stop's west as the one there was going to be held up by a freight train and I wouldn't make it downtown on time, so yah....rushed to drive to other spot, rannnn for that train, missed it, and it was like an hour to the meeting and I had to get downtown somehow. I ended up getting super lucky driving in and made it downtown on time, but ugh....what a crap start to the day yesterday! Hopefully your DHs flight gets home okay today, does he fly Porter or go up to airport? I used to love Porter, but getting down there is such a pain now.

We got the quote for painting our house, the guy (smart....so smart) ended up pricing out each room with exception to bedrooms and yah...I am so set on having the whole house done now rather than just the entry way/hallway and kitchen like what he came for, lol. Especially since I did my taxes last night and my return is massive.....all because I paid too much/opted to have too much deducted while on mat leave because I had heard of mat leave people really owing and I couldn't handle that. So I think it's going to go toward having A/C put in this Spring, painting the house, getting a shed for the backyard, and having a hitch put in my SUV, rest to beef up savings.....! That was a huge positive last night, and I needed it! I always owe money at tax time, so not owing is a treat, but this chunky return is so, so sweet.

  8. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: wait what?? I could have done something differently while on mat leave to avoid paying the thousands of dollars in taxes I'm going to owe? I didn't know there was a way of avoiding it! I thought that we just automatically didn't have enough taxes deducted during mat leave, and everyone ends up owing a ton. I could have really used a nice return instead to pay for my new furnace! grrrrrr. And that sucks about the train I know that Toronto traffic can be awfullll. My sister lives there, and every time I visit her we sit in traffic for ever! I'm actually not sure if DH is flying Porter or Air Canada hahaha...you would think that I would know this, but I totally didn't even ask him.

@Beebug: that is so exciting that you're getting money back! I just sent our tax stuff to our accountant last night. It usually takes her 2-3 weeks to sort through and get our stuff filed so I won't expect news for a little bit yet. Although usually I'm a slacker and don't send her our info until late March, so maybe doing it earlier she'll be less busy (with all the slackers) and get it done faster… fingers crossed

The test is finally over! DH stayed with me so the wait was ok but I feel so drowsy and nauseous now. Did that happen with any of you? Results will be ready in an hour so we may have to hang around. Was gonna go to work today but I can't handle the 1.5 hour drive feeling like this. It was blood draw, urine sample, one clear super sweet something to drink then wait one hour, another urine sample and blood draw, wait another hour, another urine sample and blood draw.

On the plus side I am now able to give blood without fainting or panting or crying in DH's shoulder like a total wuss! Yehhh!

  12. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Glitter: wow, that does not sound fun. For mine I think it will just be a blood draw, drink, sit for an hour, and another blood draw. I do remember feeling nauseous/dizzy after doing it.

  13. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: Go on the CRA site and dl the Federal TD1 form. There is a spot on there to have additional taxes deducted from your paycheque. I didn't know what to put, just didn't want to owe (like you experienced!!) and saw the max I could put was like 900 and something dollars) so had and additional $900+ in taxes taken off what was already taken off each pay (monthly, not bi-weekly, lol) and apparently that has paid off! I am going to start it again in May (you have to "un fill" it and submit again once not on mat leave if you don't want it to keep coming off) but maybe only have like $500 extra taken off this time? Might be a better balance, so much as I like this, going without an extra $1000 per month when I didn't have to, seems kinda crazy!

@Glitter: Glad you made it through the GD test alright. Hopefully the results come back good! Mine is on Friday and I am so not looking forward to it, bleh.

@Beebug: I've never seen Nathalie spelled that way, but I think it's a great choice! I'm sorry your week has been crappy. Hopefully it starts looking up soon.

I'm having the week from hell too - DH and I are both sick, our city is experiencing an epidemic of water main breaks which means twice this week we've been without water at work which means no filling up my water bottle and no going to the bathroom! They had to bring in porta potties one day. On Tuesday I also learned that what my boss had previously said about doctor's appointments was incorrect and all of my appointments (every 2 weeks!) have been counting against my sick time which means less leave after the babies get here. (Which may not be a problem since I'm planning to SAH, but it's still stressful to find this out NOW 27 weeks in!). And on top of all this, we are moving our administrative offices beginning Friday. So I've been trying to pack up my office a little bit at a time without lifting anything, bending over, etc. And I still come home feeling sore and stiff and unable to move! Ugh.

  16. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: wow thanks! I'm totally going to look into that!!! Hopefully I will remember to "un-fill" it when I come back to work. I was pretty lucky in that my mat leave was divided pretty evenly between two tax years (July to July) so I got to split the amount I owed between the two (I owe the second half in the next few months) so it wasn't as bad as if I'd owed it all in one year.

  17. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: Not so bad owing over two years, worst case if you don't unfill it, you will get the money back.....but not until tax time.....so not the end of the world and may prevent you from ever owing. I beefed up my RRSP contributions this year which also probably helped as I just always owed something....so it's nice to at least be able to do this to not have to worry!

@twodoghouse: Oye about all the work stuff, and the watermain stuff, that is definitely not fun! Brutal about the sick time stuff, and crazy that it's only getting sorted now, they should definitely not make you pay for your bosses mistake!

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Beebug: It's partially my own fault for just taking her word for it (she's super all over the place with details like this), but I'm just frustrated with the whole situation. Ugh.

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Glitter: glad it is over! I did not feel sick, but I didn't have to fast or wait so long. Taking the day off seems like the right choice for sure!!

@twodoghouse: bah that sucks about the illness and also your doc appts counting against sick time! I sort of "get it" but I think it's really shitty. It's not like you're taking off to go shopping. What sort of work do you do? Also how do they even keep you at work with no toilets? That seems like… illegal? I think if we had no bathrooms I'd be like… LATER I'M OUT. lol

  20. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: lol on later, I'm out!! The fire alarm goes here and I just go home....I'm such a whiner, last time everyone stood outside for 2 hours for burnt toast in the kitchen in the portable attached to where my office is! Stand outside, or go home and sit on couch and work, hmm! The whole 2 minute drive home is a huge plus at times like that, lol.

@Mae: Yeah, I get that doctor's appointments = sick time, but my boss said if I get notes saying I was at an appointment, they would be excused and not counted. Well, that part is not true! So I really should have been flexing my schedule (what I'm starting to do now for future appointments!) instead of getting all these stupid useless doctor's notes. I'm in marketing at a park district, so I'm in local government. I think they must have brought the porta potties because it must be illegal to not have bathrooms for so many hours or something. We actually have outdoor restrooms in the park that we can usually use if something like this happens, but they aren't operable in the winter! My husband said I should just come home and say that messing with a pregnant lady's bathroom schedule is unacceptable! Now we're under a boil order so we can't drink the water or anything, but at least I can use the bathrooms again!

  23. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: oh man, miserable. Is it due to all the storms coming through? I rarely make it 2 hrs without peeing even when I'm not pregnant. Asking me to go more than an hour pregnant would just not happen. And that really sucks about the time because if you had proper information you could've planned better! Sigh. Jobs suck sometimes. Also do you get a lot of Parks and Rec comments? Because admittedly I'm picturing you as leslie right now…. haha

  24. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Mae: I was totally picturing parks and rec too

@twodoghouse: That sounds awful. I've been complaining because the bathrooms on my floor at work are under construction so I have to walk up or down one floor. so not a big deal, but I complain nonetheless! But it's nothing compared to your situation! And that's super annoying about having to use sick time for appointments.

@Beebug: Ok, I found the form. I'm so excited hahaha...soooo wasn't looking forward to paying a ton of taxes all at once again. I don't see a max written on the form. Did you find out the max amount some other way? (sorry for the boring tax questions)

@Glitter: Sounds like we had the same test. I also felt nauseous and kind of lightheaded throughout until I got some food in my stomach, which was hard because lunch restaurants weren't open yet when I got out! I remember wanting nothing but soup and couldn't get any at that hour Also had an urgent diarrhea episode shortly after drinking the stuff, which was great... Did you have to do a carb loading diet for three days before? Anyway, glad we're done!

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@twodoghouse: oh no so sorry to hear about the sick leave situation. It's frustrating getting wrong info from work. I've had to deal with that also. Does this mean that your paid maternity leave until you are officially a SAHM will be less?

@anandam: yes it was dreadful and weirdly I felt too sick afterwards to eat much of anything. I slept a bit and feel better now though! Nope I didn't have to do any carb loading diet. Just fast for twelve hours before going in to the lab.

I passed my test! Yippee! No GD for me.

  30. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: I disappeared there, sorry! I just looked at the form, and you're right, no max there. I thought maybe I saw it on the provincial form but it wasn't there either. I went back to my old sent folder to see if I could find it, but no deal. So I'm not sure where I came up with that! I just remember my employer wouldn't give me a suggested number, but noted the max noted on the form and I just followed that, maybe they have updated the form? Glad you found the form anyways, me too, and it's great to have the option to take more off to lessen stress at tax time given our situations with mat leave/mat pay

When the admissions movie came out last year I was SO excited so maybe people could better understand part of what I do, while I could totally relate to some of it, the university I work for isn't prestigious quite yet so our admissions stuff looks very different, but it was still really fun to see.

I got a tea today at Tim Horton's and the cashier asked how far along I was! That's only the second total random to ask (oddly enough the other person was also a Tim Horton's employee, lol) so I guess I am getting fat! haha. The lady today was 20w with twins, and was like "I feel like I am bigger than you!". She didn't seem bigger at all, but I am sure she feels it!

I haven't been around much, but I just read through 30+ pages of stuff! Everyone looks great. Glad to hear things are going well for most. I announced that we are having a boy in another thread and we have decided we are naming him Jace. I'm a huge cow in comparison to most of you at this point, and if one more stranger mentions that I'm "going to pop soon" or "any day now!" I may punch them I also stopped throwing up this week. I've been puke free for 4 days!

@Beebug: Love the name Natalie! It was on the top of my girls names list. Never seen Nathalie before - do you know where that spelling came from? My name is usually spelled with 2 Ls in the middle of it but I only have 1 and everyone spells it wrong or I have to specifically tell them. Just something to think about.

I think we are leaning towards Thomas. Nothing is finalized and his current nickname is Napoleon. One night we were talking names and he was kicking a lot so we would say a name and see if he kicked and after saying Napoleon (jokingly) he did a huge kick so the nickname stuck!

I got a promotion this week! Totally unexpected and I start my new position next week so I'm a bit nervous but totally excited. Unfortunately I am not feeling great - sore throat and a cough - we are supposed to be getting another snow storm tomorrow so I am like 90% taking the day off and laying on the couch.

Oh and I passed the glucose test! woohoo!

  33. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Beebug: I love all those names! Is that spelling more common in French? I've definitely seen it before but would never even think to ask what way to spell it. Kind of like Nicole/Nichole. My cousin has the "h" and I think her name is always misspelled.
Sorry about the tough commute. I remember one day when I was pregnant with DS I realized on the train that I forgot my laptop at home so I had to take a bus home and then back to work again. I was a couple hours late! Days like that the commuting gods just conspire against poor worker bees.
@Glitter: Glad you are feeling better! Last time I didn't pass the one hour test (because I stupidly ate a high carb lunch right beforehand) and felt like death after the 3-hour test. That stuff is nasty.
@Mae: If you just got a finger prick, how do they test your iron? I thought that was standard testing at the same time?
@junebugmama: You look great! Congrats on the boy. That's a really cute name! And hooray for finally feeling better. I can't believe you've been sick this long.
@mrsog: Congrats on the promotion!!! I love to hear stories about employers promoting pregnant women. Love the name Thomas too. It was on our short list with DS. For some reason all my favorite celebs seem to be named Tom so I think it's a really great name!

I'm pretty sure we are settled on Otis for our name. It's the name I originally wanted but was unsure about because it ends in S and our last name begins in S. No one except me thinks it's a big deal though. It is actually after my great-uncle who survived Pearl Harbor and his last name also began with S, so I think I'm ok with it. Right now we have Owen as a back up name.

    @Glitter: yay no gd!!

@junebugmama: aw, you look great!! And yay for baby boy Jace! Also anyone who tells you you're going to pop deserves to be punched, so no worries there

@mrsog: aw, napoleon lol. I was thinking it was bc you were calling him a tiny tyrant hah. Honestly though, I love Thomas! if/when we have a boy his middle name will be Thomas, as it is a family tradition for dh's fam. And extra yay for promotion and for a day off work!

@skipra: They didn't test my iron. I don't think they've tested that at all? Also aw Otis! I don't think the S thing is a big deal because "Oti" isn't a name. Like a name like Maurice would be confusing because "Maurice Smith" could sound like "Maury Smith" or "Mary Smith"

  35. cheesetomywhine

    pear / 1586 posts

@skipra: Aw I love Otis! I don't think it sounds funny with any of the imaginary S names I just used. What is your first baby's name? If you don't mind sharing that is.

@junebugmama: You are not a huge cow! Rock that baby belly! Love Jace.

    @mrsog: Thomas is so sweet

@Beebug: I've never seen Natalie spelled with an h either. I thought it was pronounced...whoops! I am sure that isn't too big of a deal though. My DH, who has a fairly common name, gets his mis-spelled often.

@twodoghouse: Boo about the sick leave. I'd be annoyed by that. And oh my gosh on the toilet situation! I think just knowing that I didn't have a bathroom would make me have to go more.

@junebugmama: wow on reading all those pages to get caught up! I'm glad you came to say hi.....and posted a bump pic, I am slacking this week, need to do mine! You look great, yay no more puking, and I like the name Jace! I know someone who has a Jayce and it was the first time I heard the name.

@mrsog: no idea where the spelling comes from with the h. I definitely see it half the time I see the name, so it's common enough, but I still don't think I'd be down with it because we would have to correct every single time and unless it had meaning to spell it that way, it seems silly to make it more complicated? We will see what DH thinks! Ummm wicked about promotion, congrats!! And for passing GD test!

@skipra: Maybe French! Would explain why it isn't uncommon to see it that way too, hmmm. Funny, my first name is French and people ask me all the time if I am, or French people will speak it French, and expect me to spit out French, not happening, lol. I watched too much Milo and Otis as a kid, so I just think of that when I hear Otis, but I LOVE Owen, and we have an Owen too close I. Our fam for us to consider it.

@cheesetomywhine: no one ever gets my name right, DHs is near impossible to screw up, so I need to explain to him how annoying it is to add this h, lol.

Does anyone have times where they are like frantically thirsty? It is so weird, sometimes I get feeling like I can't drink enough fast enough and it is the worst feeling. It's almost painful and drinking doesn't even make it go away. Not a fun feeling! I think I am going to get bloodwork done today, the requisition says repeat prenatal antibodies, and under Hematology "CBC" is checked. Not sure what it all is, but just part of the process I guess!

@mrsog: Awww, Thomas is such a good name! It's DH's middle name (it was one of his grandfather's names) and we considered using it as this baby's middle name (but are going with DH's step dad's last name as the middle name instead!)

@skipra: everyone is coming up with such awesome boys names! Otis is a great name, and I totally wouldn't have any concerns about the last name starting with S.

@Beebug: I automatically spell Nathalie WITH an H. Must be a Canadian/french thing? I feel like i'm mispelling it if I leave the H out! I find that I'm just really thirsty when I wake up in the night, but during the day I'm ok!
