@Mae: Booo, I totally thought I would feel more reassured after my blood test results came in (since I assumed that HCG levels were part of it), but now I just feel like I'm still in limbo! I mean, I have no reason to doubt that everything is ok, but the 12 week mark seems sooooo far away. Glad your cramping has gotten better...definitely some stretching going on in there so I would just chalk it up to that

@Mae: I'm glad you are feeling much better today! I think some cramping is really normal. I was just told if it makes you double over in pain then you need to let the doctor know.
@tarabonno: I thought she was asking if it was an immaculate conception but she was just meant if I had any fertility treatments.
@cookie_dough: I hope DD is ok! The nurse had to include hcg test specifically because it's not part of the standard blood tests. I thought that would be one of the first things they would test, to make sure you really are pregnant!

I got a call from one of the midwives last night that my TSH level was very very slightly elevated so I have to go in on Monday for another blood draw. Is anyone familiar with thyroid issues? Is thyroid medication safe if you are breastfeeding?
I guess the good news is that all my other tests were fine and the hcg levels are fine, so I guess I am really pregnant.

@skipra: Thanks! Ya, she's just had a bad cough for a few weeks so I wanted to check to make sure everything was ok (it is!) I have had hypothyroidism for the last few years (it took me a long to time to get pregnant the first time because I didn't know). I'm now on Synthroid to get my TSH levels down, and it was safe for me to use while pregnant/breastfeeding. I'm still on it now, and actually my TSH levels went up a bit more when I got pregnant this time. So now my dose has been upped! That's great that your other test results were good

@Mae: I had to fly last week and at the time I wasn't even sure I was pregnant but I asked the TSA person if the body scanner was safe for pregnant ladies anyway. She said it is just like a cell phone and there was no risk.
I read in my natural pregnancy book that if you're having cramping and/or spotting, to take warm baths and drink warm soup and tea, I've been having dull cramping, more like an ache in my sides, since around when I was ovulating, and yesterday it seemed worse than usual. Took a nice bubble bath and had some ginger tea and this morning I feel great and have no spotting. Still no MS but whatev, lots of people never get MS and have healthy babies all the time (that's what I keep telling myself).

@cookie_dough: When is your first u/s? I have a dating ultrasound scheduled next week when I'll be 7w5d (which I'm rounding up to 8 weeks lol). From what I've read online if everything measures on target and you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks, your chance of miscarriage is 2% or less. So I'm counting the hours to get there because I think that will really make me feel "out of the woods" (mostly) in terms of risk of loss. I think we're even going to tell our family and friends after the u/s, assuming everything looks good!!
@skipra: I wouldn't be too concerned about the test. My doc said that your hormones often throw your thyroid a bit out of whack when pregnant, which is why it is a standard test. It sounded really common and super easy to manage.
@whodat: Yea... On my way out I opted out and got a (very very thorough) pat down... but the TSA agent made me feel so stupid for opting out. She was kind of huffy about it so I apologized for the trouble and told her I was pregnant and I wasn't comfortable with the scanner and she was like "well it emits less radiation than that cell phone you carry so there really is no reason for this." Which is the reason I just went through on my way back. But then I got home and did some research and it just seems there is conflicting info. The millimeter wave scanners are so new there has been VERY few tests on them. The TSA and some people say they are perfectly safe. But other doctors say they are just too new to know and pregnant women/children should really opt out to be safe. I mean, I'm sure it is fine for the one time. But I have to fly for 2 more trips this trimester (so-- 4 more times through security) and I think I'm going to suck up the huffiness and opt out. Even though it is PROBABLY fine, I just don't feel comfortable being the test subject for the TSA's fad of the week in screening.

@Mae: No dating ultrasound for me I had one last time since I was seeing a specialist at the fertility clinic (they routinely do an early ultrasound). But this time, since I am just seeing my GP and have regular cycles, she said there was no need for a dating ultrasound. So nothing until the genetic testing around week 12 (and even that one is optional!!!) So basically, I could go until the anatomy U/S around 20 weeks without getting one. (but i'm definitely opting to have the 12 week one done). We've told my family already and I've told a couple of close friends, but everyone else will have to wait a while to find out!

Thanks so much gals! My absolutely wonderful doctor called me last night b/c she was working and saw that my test results came in. I'm over 72,000, so my numbers still look good. She said she's more hopeful that I just ovulated late and next week we'll be able to see a growing baby. Praying that's the case!
@LindsayInNY: Did you call your doc about your test results? Don't wait for them to call you!
@Mae: That first U/S is key. With DS, he was at 120, and it was music to my ears since my first and second pregnancies I didn't have that. Counting the days until Thursday!

@2PeasinaPod : that's a great update!!! So happy that the numbers are looking good

@2PeasinaPod: Yay, great news!
@whodat: Thanks for the tips about warm baths/soup/tea to deal with cramping. I've been having a lot of cramping on and off since a couple days before my BPF. They are different than AF cramps, but they hurt! I'm still on all my IVF restrictions until we see a heart beat, so no bath for me. But I have some caffeine-free tea here at work that I'll try if the cramping gets bad again this afternoon.

@2PeasinaPod: I'm gonna give them until the afternoon before calling... I was told it depends when the results come in and if a nurse is still around. I was there yesterday around 1 so maybe ill give them until that time today before calling? I dont want to be a pest
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: ugh that sucks they don't do one routinely! I have a normal obgyn but she said she just always does 8/20 for everyone. I'm opting not to have any genetic testing (so no 12 week for me) but if I wasn't having the 8 week I prob would have the 12 just to see the little bugger!
@2PeasinaPod: yay!! so glad your numbers are good! What day next week is your appt? we can count down together
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mae: Ya, that's pretty much the reason that I am opting to do the 12 week testing - to make sure there is someone in there!!!

Okay, so this is gross but is anyone having excess saliva issues? I was just sitting at work reading HB and I started to droll out of my mouth without even realizing it! How gross, LOL! This started pre-BFP too...
papaya / 10343 posts
@LindsayInNY: not excess saliva but excess mucus in general, especially right around the time of my BFP.
bananas / 9229 posts
@Mae: No, this is just saliva... I'll be sitting in bed, reading or on my phone and just feel drool! Or notice it on the pillow!
pomelo / 5524 posts
@LindsayInNY: Psh...I'd be a pest! My doctor's office won't call me with test results though unless I call them. And their hours for calling are 9am-4pm...so incredibly convenient for those of us who work :oP Calling once isn't being a pest in my book either! As for the saliva...yes! I'm a drooler without being pregnant, but now I'm a super drooler!
@Mae: Thursday at 3:40! It's going to kill me to wait another week! How about you?
bananas / 9229 posts
@2PeasinaPod: They said they'd call but then again what's important to me likely isn't as important to them... They're open until 5pm today. I think I'll wait until 3pm or so to call?
papaya / 10343 posts
@LindsayInNY: I'd call now. Even if they are open until 5, it could be that the person you need to speak to likes to knock off early on Fridays! One call is seriously not a hassle. I'd just say you wanted to check in before the weekend.

@2PeasinaPod: that's a great update!! keeping my fingers crossed for you!
@Mae: I had serious cramping with my first pregnancy for the first 7 or 8 weeks... it made me so nervous, but everything worked out great (no spotting like you, too).

@Mae: I called. They supposedly return calls every hour. We'll see... I just need some reassurance so I don't keep POAS!

Got a bottle of wine as a house warming gift today, ha!
It would be really nice to enjoy a glass though!
I will drink a glass here or there (and tea again!) in the later part of the 2nd and into the 3rd tri, but not this early....!

@2PeasinaPod: Glad you got some good news! I have my first appt Thursday 3:15, so we can wait together too, but I am betting yours will be way more exciting than mine. My doc will have my pee in a cup, laugh at my worries of not getting pg right away post-iud and hopefully book the first u/s! I hope he does a dating one.....with all the iud stuff and no legit cycles perhaps?
bananas / 9229 posts
I'm going insane waiting for my doctor's office to call back. I left a message at 2:30. The voice mail said they check hourly and return all calls before 4:30 pm the same day. The office closes at 5pm. GAH!!
pomelo / 5524 posts
@LindsayInNY: Ahh...I'm glad you called when you did! Any update yet??
@Beebug: It always happens that way, doesn't it? When you can't have it...that's when you get it!
bananas / 9229 posts
@2PeasinaPod: They called, said they didn't have anything back yet then said "Oh, it's for betas? Let me check again and I'll call you back." This was 20 minutes ago. I've officially lost it

@2peasinapod I just let out a huge sigh of relief for you. FX that you keep getting good news!!

@2PeasinaPod: So excited to hear your good news!
Ugh, I feel gigantic already. I swear I look like I did when I was 3 months pregant last time and I'm not even 6 wks yet. Last time I didn't tell anyone at work until I was almost 6 months pregnant b/c I wasn't really showing that much but now I wish I could just tell people already so I could switch to maternity clothes. I think I'm paranoid, but I feel like it is totally obvious that I'm either knocked up or I just got super fat over the weekend! I seriously don't think my pants are going to fit next week!!
bananas / 9229 posts
I'm so agitated! Doctor's office finally called about 45 minutes ago. They said they didn't have anything back yet then said "Oh, it's for betas? Let me check again and I'll call you back." They called back and I was letting the phone ring once before answering so I didn't look overly eager and on the second ring, before I could answer, they hung up! No call back, message, nothing! I called the office and they already switched to the after hours message. WTF.
ETA: They just called back and said it's still pending. I thought betas only took 24 hours for results?
clementine / 770 posts
@LindsayInNY: ugh incompetent pple can be so annoying! Sorry they're taking their sweet time to get back to you. Are you still POAS? The lines should be super dark by now right?
bananas / 9229 posts
@Apex: They're not super dark. I tested on Wednesday morning and this morning, both with light lines. I don't really have any reason to worry but yet I am. I'm not cramping, spotting, nothing. I feel 100% normal. I stopped temping though so I can't confirm any of that.
papaya / 10343 posts
@LindsayInNY: I'm sorry you didn't find out before the weekend How frustrating!
apricot / 402 posts
@LindsayInNY: Betas shouldn't take that long!! I'm so sorry, how frustrating. I'm surprised they didn't just take a urine sample to confirm the pregnancy while you were in there. We never draw betas at our clinic- for routine OB visits.... I'm so frustrated for you! Fingers crossed friend.
bananas / 9229 posts
@Claire.Peonies: I gave a urine last week at my annual plus at yesterday's appointment. I have no clue what they do with them though! The betas were to confirm pregnancy but they send their blood work out. Hopefully everything is okay and I hear back Monday!
apricot / 402 posts
@LindsayInNY: Urine is just as good as a blood test, honestly. Unless they are worried about your levels not trending upwards?..... So I say as long as you have a + urine pregnancy test both home and in the office, that is confirmation! Urine pregnancy tests detect apx 25mlU/ml of Hcg which I suppose is the exact level they are looking for on your betas. Congratulations mama!
