@TrailRunner: Yup, me too. Nausea is fairly constant, I'm starving but can't really eat, and the vomiting is worse. I'm so sorry you're not feeling better yet, but it does make me feel a teensy bit better that I'm not alone! DH wanted me to call the OB, but what can they do? I'm sure it's because I missed a dose of diclegis two nights ago... but I really thought I wouldn't need it anymore. Nope. But you're right, only a few more weeks TOPS, right??
@Baby Boy Mom: Thank you! I feel bad complaining but this has been since week 4, it's really wearing me down physically and emotionally.

I had my first "Are you sure you know what you're getting yourself into" comment yesterday...
A girl in a fitness class that I go to told me that I was making a huge mistake and if she had known how hard it was to raise children she never would have had any... and she was being completely serious, not just joking because she had a hard day or something. I know that everyone will have an opinion but really, do people think that comments like that are helpful??
I feel like saying something like that to a first-time mom who is already nervous about how her life is going to change is just downright hateful...

@csross217: aw, don't listen to the negative like that. Some people really shouldn't have had kids. I'll be honest. Your life will completely change and your priorities will be all different. I sometimes wonder what happened to the old me and I often miss the old me. But I wouldn't change it for anything. My children have given me the greatest joy in life. They have shown me what true unconditional love is. They are the absolute best thing I have ever done. Don't be scared! Be excited for what's to come.

@Mamasig: Thank you!! Both DH and I are very excited to start this new chapter in our lives and are trying not to let people's negativity affect us.
One of DH's co-workers had the same reaction when he heard that we were expecting, though we definitely took his opinion with a grain of salt. He's always been negative about marriage/kids.... he knocked up his HS girlfriend and then had 3 more "oopsie" babies right in a row.

@csross217: I think that is just so miserable! She must be in a bad place in her life or have some other issues. Thats not a nice thing to say to anyone, let alone a mum to be! Becoming a parent is the hands down the hardest job we'll ever do but it is also the most wonderful and fulfilling part of my life - no question! Just last night my 6 year old DD wrote me a letter out of the blue while I was in the bath and it was so sweet and she came over and gave me the biggest, longest hug and it just totally made my entire week

@iluvboba637: 3 boys is definitely a challenge but so worth it! They all play with eachother and I know down the road they will have that "brotherly love." I'm not sure what I'm having yet but a fourth boy might put me into the "I JUST DONT KNOW ABOUT THIS!" category!

@csross217: I never understand why people make comments like that...I'm anticipating a few when I share the news at work.
On a brighter note, had another appointment the other day and got to hear the baby's heartbeat on the doppler! So crazy. It's slooowwwlllyy starting to feel more real...

@YogiRunner: are you taking the full dosage of Diclegis? I timed my pills and take them at the exact same time every single day (7:00 am, 2 pm, and 2 pills at 9 pm). Getting on a schedule made a huge difference, but obv not a miracle. Idk at what point I can stop taking it tho. I'm ready to stop bc it makes me zombie like...but too scared since I still have nausea.
@csross217: Awww. Some people suck sometimes. I'm scared too, but most people that have kids don't complain and say how horrible it is, so I guess it's all outlook?
@atoz: yay for a good appointment! I liked hearing the heartbeat on the Doppler. It was so cool!!
@fitfigure87: thank you! I am so excited and bought my first outfit today. Eeek!!

I'm just gonna vent for a minute...
I'm starting to stress every minute of the day with this pregnancy weight gain. 13 weeks in and already gained 10lbs I am such a health freak and gym rat and there seems to be nothing I can do to control this continuously upward spiral of numbers on my scale. My poor husband already cannot wait for this pregnancy to be over bc I haven't stopped complaining about my thighs and butt! I am so petite too and I thought this would be like my last two pregnancies (16lb total weight gain and 28lb weight gain with twins). I just don't understand. I am trying to figure out a safe way to slow my weight gain down...any suggestions? Has anyone experienced this?
kiwi / 549 posts
@fitfigure87: just wanted to commiserate. I'm 14 wks at up 9lbs. 3 of those lbs were in just this last week!!! No clue how that was possible. I'm not eating anymore or any different than i usually do...
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@fitfigure87: I had gained 10 pounds in the 1st month! Now I haven't gained anything the past few weeks and am holding steady at the 10 pounds. I know it sucks to see the number rise but your body is doing what it needs to do for the baby. If you are making healthy choices and working out, then you are doing all you can do. Your body must need the extra weight. Also, I don't think you can compare your pregnancies. Mine have all been different! Also, I don't know how long ago your other pregnancies were, but weight gain/management is so much harder as you get older!
grape / 79 posts
@iluvboba637: I am glad I'm not the only one struggling...May cannot come soon enough!
@mamasig: True...I was 19 with pregnancy #1 and 21 with pregnancy #2...I am now 28. I hope I slow down/level out like you bc I don't know how I will survive...
kiwi / 585 posts
@fitfigure87: I have gained at least ten pounds as well. I wasn't small before I got pregnant...higher end of healthy weight, and now I'm officially overweight. It was a real blow the last time I stepped on a scale. I am now just diligently counting calories again. I didn't make the best choices before bc of food aversions and this random sweet tooth I picked up, but I am going to get back to eating right.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@fitfigure87: oh, you cannot compare! It is much harder to bounce back from pregnancies the older you get. And the closer you get to 30 (and then 40) the harder it gets. I'm 37 and the struggle to lose weight after my 2nd was there. But you seem to have healthy habits in place which help!

So are any moms feeling better and over the nausea phase yet? Give me hope! Eleven weeks here and I throw up at least once every day. Just wondering when I'll feel better.
grape / 79 posts
@Mamasig: Nausea is finally gone! I stopped taking Diclegis at 11 weeks and felt fine=)
pear / 1703 posts
@fitfigure87: @iluvboba637: @Mamasig: @TrailRunner: Girls I am right here with you on the crazy weight gain. I know the culprit, I ate like total crap in the first tri b/c I was so sick! Now I'm at a point where 90% of my wardrobe doesn't fit. And not just cause my growing belly, if you know what I mean. I have to wear leggings every day. I'm not even going to get on the scale because I think I'd be horrified. I'm trying not to stress though, I feel better now (14 wks) and have started making better food choices, plus I'm starting to think about adding some light walking to my day or joining a pre-natal aquafit class. I know that all the weight will come off eventually!!
On a happy note, we had our NT scan on Friday and all looks great, plus our doppler arrived in the mail yesterday and we enjoyed listening to the heartbeat together
persimmon / 1129 posts
@Autumnmama79: Yay so fun that you got a doppler. I wanted to get one, but at my last appointment my doctor had a hard time finding the heartbeat and when she did an ultrasound she said it's because my placenta is kind of in the front on one side. So I think a doppler would just freak me out!
pear / 1703 posts
@My Only Sunshine: Good call! The last thing we need is anymore reasons to freak out. It's great and DH enjoyed being able to find the heartbeat himself, the only downside I foresee is that it will make these early dr appointments less exciting as thats what I really looked forward to with lo1 pregnancy
cherry / 201 posts
@Mamasig: I'm with you...the nausea has actually peaked for the last few weeks! Only at week 11 though...I'm hoping it wanes soon. @Autumnmama79: Lovely that you got to hear the heartbeat!!

Also, I've decided to switch practices! Switching to a local midwifery group that does only hospital deliveries (including water births!) nearby. It's the first time I've spoken with a practitioner and haven't feel the need to explain my desire for an unmedicated etc. birth. Very excited about the switch.
pear / 1703 posts
@atoz: That is exciting. And a hospital that does water births?? I wish we had that here. Theres been some rumblings of a birthing centre being built in our city, but I imagine its still a long way off.
kiwi / 549 posts
I'm 14 weeks and still have nausea in the afternoons and evenings. Better than all day, but it's still here..
cherry / 201 posts
@Autumnmama79: yes--it's not typical around here either! they only have one birthing tub (the other rooms have tubs for laboring only) but I'm looking forward to working with a practice that's even comfortable with that mindset!
kiwi / 554 posts
@Mamasig: 14 weeks here and my nausea is completely gone! Replaced with all-day ravenous hunger and strange cravings though...
@atoz: That sounds like a great switch!! I live in a really rural area and unfortunately there are only a few practices/hospitals around to choose from unless I want to drive 2 hours... but it is kinda cool that I'm going to be delivering at the hospital where my entire family had their babies, and where both myself and DH were born!
kiwi / 585 posts
@Autumnmama79: yay for a good scan!!
@atoz: that practice sounds awesome!
@csross217: I will be delivering at the same hospital I was born at too!
Are any of you FTM asking grandparents to get the tdap? Both sets of grandparents will be staying with us bc they live out of town, so I asked them to get it since I read that the CDC recommends it. Is that crazy paranoid of me? They didn't argue or anything, but I don't want to be that crazy FTM.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@TrailRunner: I'm not a FTM, but I didn't ask anyone to do that. The most I asked was for my mom to get a flu shot but that's for her benefit really. However, I will say I was never a paranoid FTM about my baby catching something. If someone is visibly sick or has a fever I keep my kids away from them if I can. But other than that I go with the flow.
kiwi / 585 posts
@Autumnmama79: it's a combination shot that covers whooping cough.
@Mamasig: my obgyn made such a big deal about the tdap, so I got all freaked out. That and coupled with those videos online made me so sad. I'm not a germaphobe by any means, so it's weird to me that I am so insistent on this.
pear / 1703 posts
@TrailRunner: Strange I've never heard of it before, I will make a note to ask my OB about it during the next appt. Thanks for the heads up!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@TrailRunner: I think I got that with my 2nd pregnancy but not my 1st. It's a blur after a while. I've never seen the videos. I will say that after becoming a mom I shy away from too much info. It's all overwhelming after a while and you begin imagining the worst happening to your child. So for me partial ignorance is bliss.
clementine / 811 posts
@TrailRunner: We had our parents and BIL and SIL get their Tdap and flu shots last time. DH had it with me the year before for our honeymoon, but I had to get it again in my third tri, since that is now the recommendation.

I am terrible at keeping up with this thread, I have been AWOL between crazy work projects, sick toddler, vacation, etc.
We did find out we're having another boy! So excited for my son to have a brother.
Is it possible to have lightning crotch this early? I didn't get it last time until the third tri, but here I am at 14 weeks with it. In the last two hours I've felt it 4 or 5 times, one time I gasped. Ugh.
@Mamasig: Yup, nausea is gone for the most part! Every now and then something induces a gag but I haven't thrown up in weeks and mostly I feel good. I'm 14 weeks.
@fitfigure87: this was me the last pregnancy, I started putting on weight and it just never stopped. What's strange is that hasn't happened this time (yet...), it's more like what mamasig said, about 10 lbs right away but nothing since. Although last time I was also nauseous for longer which I think contributed (more junk/carbs).

I had the bloods for the Downs testing done, my scan is in 3 days time! So excited to get to see the baby!
We won't ask anyone to get the flu shot, even though baby is due in May which is coming into winter here. We will ask for everyone to get the whooping cough vaccine though.
grape / 79 posts
@sharpie: Yeah I have finally stopped gaining for the moment and even lost half a pound overnight somehow! Anyways, did you have an early ultrasound to find out what you were having? I have a gender reveal on Nov 16th and am praying we can tell!
persimmon / 1129 posts
@TrailRunner: We had both sets of grandparents get that for sure. Whooping cough is terrifying and infants can't get immunized for it. Not sure if we all need to get them again or not 2 years later, but we will if we should.

So I had my OB appt yesterday. She did a superquick u/s to make sure the bean is doing ok and I got to see the heartbeat flicker, which is always such a sigh of relief in these beginning weeks! Then I just had an enormous amount of blood taken. 7-10 days until we can find out the sex! Its going to be so weird knowing ahead of time!
Next appt is the u/s with the NT scan in two weeks.
