@sorrycharlie: I was GBS + last time but I was already hooked up to the Pitocin so adding the antibiotic didn't change anything in my case.
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@sorrycharlie: I was gbs+ last time too. No big deal, I was med free but they like to have a saline lock in you just in case anyway (basically iv needle in you but not hooked up to anything). So they hooked it up twice to antibiotics for about 15m each during the 9 ish hours I was in the hospital laboring. Usually they also want you to come in when your water breaks no matter where contractions are. The nurse I had was nice and did it at times when I was ready to be sitting/laying anyway.
Miraculously I tested negative this time - I think being on antibiotics a couple weeks before for a bad sinus infection did the trick.

As expected, I am no really anymore dilated than last week. He said I'm not quite a 1. I was a little but encouraged because last week I was still high and right and this week he said I'm 60% effaced and soft. So at least y body is doing something. The OB I saw today said the hardest part of a VBAC is just being patient for the baby to come on it's own since there is really not much they can do to induce or help you along in this case. I'm settling in for a 41-weeker just to mentally prepare myself.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Mrs. Blue: that sounds like a good plan! It is hard to be patient with lots of things at this point.

It's January, ladies! So excited to meet the rest of our babies! It's crazy that my due date is the next big thing on my calendar. I now feel like she could come any day and I'd be totally okay with that.

Happy January!
So as of this morning my "choice" to induce on Tuesday has been made for me. I had my NST and my BP has gone up quite a bit just since yesterday morning's OB appointment and a lot since Monday's NST. Usually it starts out a little high when I get there but within half an hour of resting it would be normal, but this time I was there for over 2 hours and it didn't budge.
At first they said they wanted me to come back this afternoon to get induced, but since its not crazy high yet they said they're okay with me coming back Monday for another NST and doing the induction Monday if its still high or Tuesday at the latest if its back to normal.
I seriously can't believe I will have a baby next week, having an actual end date makes it seem so much more real!

@HappyBaker: Just a few more days before baby! That's so exciting!

@HappyBaker: Wow crazy! Are you happy or disappointed you have to be induced? I am torn at this point because I'm so over being pregnant, but is also wanted it to happen naturally.

@HappyBaker: Next week - that is so exciting!! Though, I'm sure a little stressful knowing your BP is high.

@Mrs. Blue: The waiting is torture!
@Radish: It's all I can think about now that the holiday craziness is behind us.
@HappyBaker: So excited that you are going to have a baby in just a few days!

@HappyBaker: I'm sorry your numbers weren't ideal, but am thrilled that youre meeting that sweet baby so soon!
@MapleMoose: Yes to the holiday thing! I have no idea how I'd do the last few weeks of pregnancy without some huge distraction now. Haha!

@Radish: @mfa_lady: @MapleMoose: totally agree! I just told DH that I wish we had one more big thing to focus on to help the time go by.

@HappyBaker: Wow! You just have the weekend, and then it is baby time! (I think we put all this pressure on ourselves to try and have a super nice "last" meal, etc. and we ended up eating nachos at our favorite Mexican restaurant, ha!)

Thanks guys, you are all seriously the best!
@MrsHansen82: I go both ways about it, on one hand its great to know I will definitely be done next week, and can schedule my parents to be here to take care of DD, but on the other I'm really worried it will be an awful labor / end up in a c-section…but I guess all labors could end that way anyway!

@HappyBaker: sorry your bp was up, but hooray for getting to meet your baby!!
Almost 39 weeks for me today, and I am still in no rush to have this baby. My sister thinks I'm crazy and can't understand how I am so content to stay pregnant
Since it's going to happen whether I'm ready or not, I should probably get going on my "to-do before baby" list!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@HappyBaker: obviously, I would prefer to have a vaginal delivery, too, since I'm going for a VBAC. I just wanted to say, though, that my c-section recovery was great, not at all like the horror stories you hear. I'm sure a huge part of that was that the boys were in the NICU, which for we me to be out of bed, moving, walking, etc all the time. I'm really hoping you'll have a great induction experience, but if it doesn't work out, just make yourself get up and move around as much as possible and you'll thank yourself later!

Does anyone else go to sleep every night thinking., "Maybe my water will break tonight..."
Just me?
persimmon / 1096 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Not just you. I probably think about it three or four times a day, especially at night - for whatever reason, that's when my "lightening crotch" is at it's worst.
I really need baby to stay in until my mom gets here on Monday, but I pretty much hope to go into labor as soon as she arrives!

Hey girls sorry I have been MIA. Visiting family just got back and settling back into the house.
I had my 36 week appointment. Everything is great... except baby is still breech. I have a ECV scheduled for 1/12 so that will be about 37.5 weeks mark. My OB says since I'm a second time mom and she check my fluids and that's looking good... I should have about an 80% chance of it being successful. If not I'll have a c-section set for my 39 week mark.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@HappyBaker: *big hugs* I hope everything will go great for you!
Going through this breech thing just made me think that whatever happens at least we will meet our babies and they are overall healthy.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Mrs. Blue: so last night I rolled over and felt a little something go down below. I thought it might be water breaking or mucous plug. Nope. Just a little bit of pee.
@Raindrop: sorry to hear the baby is breech, but you seem to have a good outlook about things! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
@HappyBaker: wow! Enjoy the rest of your weekend as a family of three!

I had my 37 week appt. yesterday. We did a NST and that was interesting to me. I'll have one each week b/c of the GD. Not much going on to report, but I do feel my body changing. Constant cramps, little jolts that my yoga teacher calls zingers--she said they move down to the crotch, so maybe then I'll know the joy of lightening crotch!
We spent 2 hours with my yoga teacher last night. She gave us ideas about comfort measures and ideas of what labor could be like. It was a fun time that made it all feel very real!
persimmon / 1177 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I am sort of terrified of my water breaking while I'm out in public (even though I know it probably won't be a huge gush), so if it happens I hope it's at home!
@Raindrop: Sorry baby is still breech, but hopefully everything works out for you!
For what it's worth, my baby was breech at 35 weeks, but now she's been head down since 37 weeks - so it's still possible that baby will turn on their own!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Raindrop: sorry to hear baby is still breech. Hope it'll resolve on its own soon.
We're all slowly but surely coming out of the woods here. Little B brought home the mothers of all colds. While he was only sick for something like 3-4 days DH and I have been fighting it since Christmas morning. While I mainly have a cough DH was down with a fever and really runny nose. Not so fun. Thankfully there was lots of family around to help with little B. And having a cough and an amazingly weak pregnancy bladder makes you really appreciate those giant slip liners oh boy...
@Mrs. Blue: something similar more thinking that this might be the nights of nights. Somehow I am not scared of my water breaking first. Might be because it broke so late last time.

@Raindrop: sorry baby is still breech.
@HappyBaker: add me to the c sections aren't so bad club. I was disappointed that vbac wasn't a good option for me, but my second section had been easier than the first (which was also easy) I was discharged 30 hours after delivery and am feeling really great so far. Every nurse and doc that came in was shocked that I was a section mama because I was up and moving pretty soon.
So who's next?! Moar babies please!
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Yay! I'm glad to hear you say that the 2nd is easier than the first, because my first was pretty easy as well. What did you do for pain management after? Did they do a one shot spinal then pain pills? I think here they do a one shot spinal, then a PCA (pain button you push) but I want to avoid that. Last time I had the epidural in due to the induction and they left it in 24 hours after my section. I could get up and move around and it was awesome for pain control, but I learned later that they only did it because they secretly thought I'd bleed and have to go back to the OR! Way to communicate, guys...
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Espion: I had a one shot spinal and an epidural. The anesthesiologist said that's what he orders in case there is an emergency. They left in the epidural over night. Then pain pills. I left with a script for oxy but haven't needed it much. Alternating Tylenol/ibuprofen has been enough.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Hmmm, see I wish they'd do that here. They gave me Percocet after the epidural came out and I never needed them either. I think really great pain management in the first 24 hours makes a huge difference.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@Happygal: Thanks! I'm actually a bit scared of the ECV, I heard it hurts... A LOT! I'm having DH go with me. I have had 3 friends that went through this and one did the ECV and said it was the most painful thing she ever went through and it was unsuccessful (it was her first though... and they gave her a less than 50% chance of being successful) and the other two friends opted not to do it at all and had c-sections. Their thoughts where that the baby is that way for a reason... one of them was somewhat right because their baby had the cord wrapped around her neck.
I really like my OB and she's very encouraging about doing it so I thought I would at least try it out. If it hurts too much I can always just stop.
Thanks for sharing your yoga experience! I wanted to do some yoga with pregnancy but man am I lazy.
@charmed: Thanks! Did you do anything special to encourage your LO to turn? I have tried spinning baby stuff and old wives tale stuff, nothing has even gotten him to budge other than moving a bit to tell me he doesn't like it. Haha.
@Pumuckl: Aw sorry you're sick. Happy to hear you have a lot of help!
@oliviaoblivia: Thanks!! Also I'm glad to hear your c-section was good!! I have been reading the c-section thread here and it really does help me think that c-sections aren't that bad.

@Mrs. Blue: Haha yes and I'm so disappointed every morning when it didn't break!
I tried out my pump from my first pregnancy to make sure things were set to go and was happy to see a good amount of colostrum. I had a lot of issues BF last time, ended up pumping and supplementing, then giving up completely because DD had so many food allergies. I'm happy to see my body is gearing up to attempt another round of BF.
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@MapleMoose: I was thinking about breaking out the ol' pump after I hit 39 weeks this week ... See if I can signal my body to get going. Of course I've heard that only works if you're basically ready to go into labor yourself anyway, but I really want to provide some space from #1's bday on the 24th. If nothing else will get me to sterilize it!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@bhbee: I was thinking about that too. I have been having contractions for a few weeks now and sometimes they are timeable but the pump didn't seem to jump start anything. Must not be time yet.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@MapleMoose: I tested mine out the other day and got a whole lot of nothing. I know that's not a huge indicator, but it reminded me how much the supply issues sucked last time. I really hope that the girls will get goin when baby arrives.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I've heard the supply can change with each attempt. I didn't have a great supply last time either so I'm hoping it's better this round.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@Mrs. Blue: not an indicator at all! I had absolutely nothing come out during my first pregnancy...barely any colostrum either when my lo was born. My supply was fine though, so don't get discouraged.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@Raindrop: I'd been doing the spinning babies daily activities on and off my whole pregnancy, but I made an effort to do the forward leaning inversion, psoas release, and pelvic tilts every day after 35 weeks. I've also been walking about 30 minutes a day. Not sure if it made a difference, or if baby just decided to turn on her own, but all three exercises really help with my low back pain and sciatica so I'd still do them anyway.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@charmed: Haha I'm doing the same. I'm glad it worked for you! I hope it works for me. Thank you for the information.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Espion: Huh, I read it earlier and was coming back to comment on it. I always have itchy feet when I let them hang and they swell. I mostly sit criss-cross exclusively because of it. Now I'm paranoid.
