@Radish: (I'm not crazy then! 2 of my posts disappeared...)

This is a maddening, wake me up in the middle of the night intense itch. And I'm itchy all over, but no rash. I think the intensity of it put me over the edge and I jokingly looked it up thinking I'd get the "oh yeah, happens all time" spiel.

FWIW, my OB (who is very good) said that it is not uncommon, and she's never seen a bad outcome from it. And she's been in practice for a long time.

    nectarine / 2079 posts

@Espion: okay, good to know. It was much worse last time than this time and everything was fine so I'm going to not think about it. Yours sounds miserable, though. I hope you get relief and good answers.

ETA: just thinking about itching makes me itchy suddenly

I am so over having episodes of contractions at night only that inevitably stop after a few hours, and therefore rob me of sleep but don't result in a baby. I had an appointment scheduled for Wednesday, but they accidentally booked it with the wrong OB, so now I won't be seen until Friday, and I swear if Ol' Alcatraz, i.e. my cervix, hasn't made significant progress from this nightly contraction shiz I'm going to lose my cool. Cause, you know, I'm totally keeping it together right now.

@Mrs. Blue: You stole the words out of my head! Including waiting until Friday to be seen!! I'm having the episodes right now, have been for the last hour. I'm getting to the point where I'm eyerolling my belly like "yeah right we've been through all this and every time you let me down" lol

@MapleMoose: I told the baby the story of "The Little Boy Who Cried Contraction" today. I'm guessing he ignored me, but whatevs.

@bhbee: Yes, I really hope that it is productive and means we will "start" further along.

@Radish: she's been amazing. Brings me blankets, hats, diapers. Always wants to kiss the baby. It is literally better than I ever imagined it could be. We went out yesterday and the baby lost a sock and L was so concerned that her foot was cold. It's the sweetest thing.

@oliviaoblivia: Awesome! That is pretty much what I am hoping for and expecting with A based on her personality, but now I'm getting worried that she is going to freak out over it all.

@oliviaoblivia: aww that is so sweet!

Had my 39 week check up today - baby is still high and head down, so no change there. I'll have my first cervical check at my next appointment, and will also schedule an NST to make sure baby is still doing well.
I haven't had any sort of signs that labor might be near (but I think I was leaking a little colostrum yesterday!) and I have a gut feeling that I am going to go well past my due date, so I'm trying to be patient and just wait for baby girl to come when she's ready.

  17. Radish

    nectarine / 2079 posts

Check up today went well. 1 cm and head is right there... not that that tells me a lot. I feel so close and so far from meeting this baby. This month is going to drag.

  18. Mrs. Confetti

    blogger / pomegranate / 3491 posts

Had an appointment today (technically my 37 week but I'm 37.5). Found out I'm GBS+ again this pregnancy. So annoying, especially since I have some med allergies that make it tougher to find a drug to knock it out. But the bonus, as I understand, is that they won't let you linger in triage when you come to L&D, since you need to get hooked up to drugs ASAP.

I'm skipping cervical checks til 39.5, but I know I'm already at a 1 at least. Starting next Tuesday, once my DH stops traveling, I am doing every natural old wives tale option under the sun. I am determined to have a January baby, despite going 2 weeks late last time.

I hope things get started for you ladies soon!!

I've got 16 days left until this kid's exit and I am worn. out. I fell asleep on the couch yesterday at 5 pm, woke up at 9 pm and crawled into bed. Thank goodness for DH or else E would have just crawled all over my body in the living room.

And you know you are an EZ-Bake oven when you go outside without a coat and think about how good 4 degrees feels...

    How far along? 38w2d

    Next appt: Friday

Name, if you have one/are sharing: Not positive, but we have a very short list now.

What do you have left to do: I *think* we're really close to having everything checked off our list. The only think I can think of is that I want DH to mount the dressers and bookshelves to the wall in the boys' room and the nursery, so I don't have to stress about the big boys starting to climb on something while I'm doing something with the baby.

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: Everything I can think of. Actually, I've been using evening primrose oil, walking or bouncing on an exercise ball, the "old fashioned" way of getting things going, and I've tried pumping a couple of times. That's about it. I'm never going to want to avoid a c-section enough to try caster oil or the like. I just can't.

Delivery type/plans: Hopefully a VBAC. I'm open to anything from there whether it be epidural or med free, episiotomy or tear, etc. I just want to be able to see how I'm doing and make decisions as I go that feel right at the time, without having too many built up expectations

Progress, if you know: Last week, I was soft & 60% effaced, but not even a 1 yet.

Plan for other LOs: Going to our babysitter until my in-laws can get here (will probably be 10-12 hours). If for some reason that doesn't work out, then my mom and dad will take care of them instead of my mom coming to L&D with DH and me.

How you're feeling overall: I'm mostly just antsy to get the show on the road. It's hard now that the holidays are over, we don't have anything major to do, and we're just waiting for go time.

  22. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

Okay, right after I typed up that update, I walked in our nursery and started laughing that I said we had pretty much everything major done. Clearly, my standards for a completed nursery have changed....

    How far along? 36w6d

    Next appt: 1/12 - For ECV ; 1/14 - For 38w check up

Name, if you have one/are sharing: Jacob or Austin but neither of these are set in stone... DH and I said the default name is Jacob if we can't find anything better or are still on fence. Jake and the Neverland Pirates is LO's favoriate show and Jake is short for Jacob so we thought that would be cute as a default.

What do you have left to do: Nothing really. We should set up the pack and play in our room but that shouldn't take long.

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: Just spinnning baby stuff to try to turn this breech kid and walking a lot.

Delivery type/plans: I hope for a vaginal birth again but if I have a c-section because of the breech not geting resolved, I think I'll be happy with that too. The up side would be that I got to exprience both types of births and can related with others because I was through both.

Progress, if you know: Nothing yet because of the breech baby. This kid is troublesome. Haha.

Plan for other LOs: Our first LO will be 2.75 years old and he will be staying with my parents during the time we give birth. He has been over my parents house over night before many times and so we think he will be just fine.

How you're feeling overall: Pretty good. The whole breech thing is on my mind but honestly I just hope for a healthy kid and even though the breech thing is scary and sometimes thoughts get the best of me I know what ever will happen will happen and in a month I will have a sweet little boy in my arms and I keep thinking of that which makes me smile so much.

    Next appt: Monday

Name, if you have one/are sharing: We have a short list, but haven't decided 100% (and aren't sharing until she's here)

What do you have left to do: Finish up some work related things and a little more decorating in the nursery.
I'd also like to deep clean the whole house, but I feel like that is not going to happen unless I get a crazy burst of nesting energy.

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: I've been walking and sitting on an exercise ball the past couple weeks. I'll probably try "the old fashioned way" this week too. Then we'll see how desperate I get once I'm past my due date!

Delivery type/plans: Hoping for a med-free labor and delivery, but I'm open to an epidural/drugs if it's not going well.

Progress, if you know: Haven't had any checks yet, so all I know is that baby is still high and up in my ribs!!

How you're feeling overall: My hips have been killing me lately -especially at night, I cannot get comfortable. But otherwise (don't hate me!!) I feel really good.

    Next appt: Jan 13

What do you have left to do: I was going to say order my breast pump, but I just did it instead. So check-mark there. I also want to get a small pack of newborn diapers at some point. I would go just to size 1s, but I like that the newborn ones have the cutout for the umbilical cord.

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: Nope. I don't really plan on it, either.

    Delivery type/plans: Vaginal with meds.

Progress, if you know: 1cm today, she didn't mention effacement or anything.

Plan for other LOs: No idea. We have a lot of tentative options of basically just seeing what friends are available when it all goes down.

How you're feeling overall: Terrible. I am constantly uncomfortable and sore and DD loves to make me bend over, squat and pick her up all day which is not helping. Sleep is okay - I keep waking up with hot flashes and then having to pee, but I go back to sleep fairly quickly.

  27. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@Mrs. Blue: At least you have something started! If I showed a picture of our "nursery" in progress, it would be the floor next to our bed, lol!

How far along? 37 weeks and 2 days. I have 16 days left! (Scheduled for c-section at 39 and 4.)

Next appt: This Thursday right after E's 19 month appointment.

Name, if you have one/are sharing: Boy's name...we have NO idea. None. Girl's name, I am pretty set on the middle name, but we haven't set a first name in stone yet. At least we have a list for a girl's name. Not so much for boy.

What do you have left to do: Make it through these last 16 days of work. I'm seriously not thinking about what I need to do for the baby at all. Just work.
(I did wash all the newborn clothes and hauled out my pump. I probably need to sterilize all the parts in the next week or so.)

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: Nope, this kid needs to stay put.

    Delivery type/plans: Repeat c-section.

Progress, if you know: They checked me at my last appointment for no reason whatsoever and said I was high and closed. As expected.

Plan for other LOs: He'll go to daycare that morning and I'm scheduled for a first start case. DH will pick up E that evening and go home with him, so I'll be by myself at the hospital at night. Not ideal, but it is what it is.

How you're feeling overall: Exhausted. I just scheduled my flight and hotel for the biggest exam in my life on February 20th and 21st, so also add overwhelmed.

  28. Oliviapope

    cherry / 243 posts

    @Mrs. Blue: Great idea.

How far along? 38 weeks and 6 days.

    Next appt: Thursday

Name, if you have one/are sharing: We've got short lists for both boy and girl - will decide once we meet him or her!
What do you have left to do: Wrap things up at work. I feel like I have a lot undone and it's been hard to focus. Hoping to finish up tomorrow and then just stick around to help out as needed. Also have to decide whether to ask mom to be in delivery room. What are you all doing? My mom is amazing, super calming, but part of me wonders if I want this to be something DH and I get through together? Can't figure it out and need to soon! Nursery and other baby stuff is mostly together, it's crazy!

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: I'm thinking maybe the old fashioned way after Thursday's dr. appt. And then walks/bouncing/spicy food? Part of me wants the baby to come, part of me is nervous and wouldn't mind more time to relax/plan/sleep!

Delivery type/plans: Healthy baby, healthy mama. Whatever that may be. Not opposed to pain meds, but if I have a quick labor I may try unmedicated.

Progress, if you know: At 36w I was 1 cm and 50%. This week we'll see if more happened in the last 3 weeks. She said she felt baby's head at the last appt, but he/she seemed to be stuck in my ribs for a couple weeks after that. This week I feel more movement down low but I don't have a lot of weight/pressure really down low. Wondering if that needs to happen before I go into labor. Also I don't think I look like the baby "dropped", but who knows?!

Plan for other LOs: This is our first LO!

How you're feeling overall: I go back and forth - I'll have a great day where I feel pretty decent, all things considering, and then the next day I am totally worn out. Back and hips hurt, I feel slow-moving in general, and my brain feels worn out too.

  29. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Oliviapope: The mom thing is so weird. The first time, I really wanted just DH and me in the room, even though I'm super tight with my mom. This time, I just as adamantly want her to be in with DH and me. Will your mom be at the hospital anyway? Maybe you could just tell her you'd like to play it by ear and see how you feel during labor or not say anything but ask DH to get her from the waiting room if you decide you want her.

  30. charmed

    persimmon / 1177 posts

@Oliviapope: I talked to my mom about it and basically told her I definitely wanted her at the hospital, and possibly in the room with us during labor but I wasn't sure for how long/when and that I might kick her out at any time. She was totally fine with that (I wouldn't have asked if I didn't think she would be).
Also, if anything happens to the baby, DH goes where she goes. But I don't want to be alone, so my mom would stay with me.

The main reason I wouldn't want her there is that I tend to cuss like a sailor when I'm upset/hurting and don't really want to be dropping f-bombs in front of my mom

  31. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@Oliviapope: My mom lives more than 4300 miles away, so question answered for me! I would want it to be just DH and I, though, regardless.

  32. Radish

    nectarine / 2079 posts

@Oliviapope: both my mom and dad were with me in the delivery room for DD1. I didn't plan it that way, but since there was room for them I didn't see the point in sending them to the waiting room when they were allowed to stay. They just sat out of the way talking to themselves until she came out and then my dad took a bunch of pictures of her so that freed up DH to cut the cord and be in the moment. Since we moved cross-country, I'll be lucky if my mom is here in time to just watch DD1 while I'm giving birth.

  33. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@Oliviapope: I had DH and my mom there in the delivery room with #1. If you feel strongly that it should just be you and your husband then that is fine. But I will tell you that I'm close with my mom and would also describe her as amazing and calming and I'm so glad she was there and that we could share that experience together. I think she felt it was pretty special too!

How far along? 39w (due date says 15th on here but dr thinks it is 13th so I'm counting it)

Next appt: tomorrow! I decided no checks until 40w though so nothing exciting

Name, if you have one/are sharing: we're down to three and we hope one will speak to us when he comes

What do you have left to do: honestly not much. Had some crazy nesting over the holidays. Working on a small photo book of pregnancy like I made for #1 but can't finish until he comes anyway

Trying any Old Wives' Tales: probably going to pump some starting Thursday and see how it goes. Planning to see Chiro 2x this week and hope it puts baby right into place! Tentatively agreed to an induction on the 16th to avoid bdays being too close (#1 is 24th) so I'll get more desperate as we get closer

Delivery type/plans: hoping med free again, but open to the idea that an induction could change that. The one thing that would put me off the induction is if there's no progress at 40w check

Progress, if you know: don't want to know, since things can change so fast or stall for a long time! I never had any checks with #1 until 5cm in labor but I never had any other signs either (no mucus plug or bloody show until pretty clear it was real labor) so not sure if I dilated much before it hit me hard (contractions started at 5-1-1 and I still didn't have a short labor!)

Plan for other LOs: panic? We hope the pieces work out. My neighbor can watch for a few hours if she is home. My brother and sister in law live/work 45-60m away so in theory they come next but during the workday would be complicated. As soon as we're sure about labor my mom will fly across country and stay for a while to help with #1

How you're feeling overall: ugggggghhhhhh. No sleep, way too many zaps downstairs, stay-puft swelling status, way too many painful contractions that probably aren't doing anything. I've found Epsom salt baths to be really really helpful though as is Chiro work. Except when LO walked in on my bath and told me I needed a new belly button

@bhbee: Hahah, my LO looked at my belly button yesterday and said "ew!" First time he's ever said that word. Nice, kid.

    Next appt: Thursday
Name, if you have one/are sharing: Undecided. Right now we're leaning toward Henry if it's a boy and Penelope (Penny) if it's a girl. But there are several close runner-ups!
What do you have left to do: Pack hospital bag (should probably get on that tomorrow). Hang up some pictures in the nursery. Sleep more! I'm not sterilizing bottles/pump parts or anything ahead of time. Meh, I'm a lot more laid back about prep this time around.
Trying any Old Wives' Tales: Drinking raspberry leaf tea 3-4 times a day. Not sure that it really "tones my uterus," but it's tasty! Nothing else yet. I'm surprised/impressed so many of you are getting busy!! There is no way in hell I could/would DTD right now.
Delivery type/plans: Medicated hospital birth. I'm not looking to get the epidural right away because I want to be sure I've made good progress first, but I'm not trying to hold out very long either!
Progress, if you know: I was 2 cm and 80% effaced at last week's appointment, with baby's head super low. Which explains why I'm up at least 4 times each night to pee. Seriously, I think this is worse than the newborn sleep with LO#1.
Plan for other LOs: My mom arrived yesterday and is staying for several weeks, so that is a huge relief. I only want DH with me for labor and delivery, same as last time, so she's holding down the fort with LO and our dogs while I'm in the hospital.
How you're feeling overall: Actually, better than I have been. Lots of aches and pains still, but between my mom taking on some of LO's care and my DH taking over a lot of household stuff over the past week, I'm getting some rest. I'm having a lot of sadness still over a few nights away from LO, him not being my "baby" anymore, etc.
