I had a boring appointment this morning. I put it off until week 25 because I had a follow-up ultrasound last week to check on some of the little red flags they brought up at my gender ultrasound appointment. It looks like my little guy still has fluid in his kidneys, and I finally got to write down the medical term so I can google it a bit. Pyelectasis. At this point, the best news is that it is detected early. That way we can be proactive. It's hard to think about already putting him through a surgery to correct it, but whatever we can do to help him. I wish I could do something while he's inside, but there's nothing I can do. So I'm trying to take comfort in knowing that no one else is freaking out over it, it's not uncommon, and there is treatment. It could also go away on it's own! We'll see.

I have my glucose test on 8/26. Other than that, things are good!

How are everyone else's appointments going? I'm still another month out from the 2 week appointment interval. But I'm the caboose of the bunch, due at the end of November. So I get to watch and learn from all of you

@sweetooth: oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about baby's kidneys but you're right, if the doctors aren't too worried, chances are everything will turn out okay! I totally understand the worrying though, big hugs!

My glucose test is next Friday and I'm a little nervous, but hoping it will be fine!

@sweetooth: Awe, I'm sure since the docs aren't concerned that your little pumpkin will be fine but that must be so scary. Fingers crossed it goes away on it's own.
I'm at the butt end too - you're not alone! My every 2 week appts start a month from now too.

My glucose tolerance test is August 30th.

@sweetooth: Aww, sorry about the kidney problems :(. But you're doing exactly what you need to for him while he's inside - keeping him calm, fed, and perfectly happy while he grows. I'm also pretty sure my friend's baby had this and it turned out to be a non-issue. Will they be doing extra monitoring for you? Since I'm "advanced maternal age" at 35, I get lots of extra ultrasounds.

@sweetooth: Hopefully it will correct itself all on it's own. I'm sorry you have to stress about that!

My two week appointments start this Friday with my two hour glucose test (my midwives don't so the one and three hour tests; 2 hour tests for everyone!) Although I feel like at 29 weeks this is pretty late for the glucose test....hopefully it goes fine. I'm kinda nervous for it.

@lilteacherbee: @Ash: @MrsCB: Thanks ladies It definitely does trigger those motherly instincts and emotions when you already feel like your little one needs help right out of the gate. But I am thankful for advanced technology so this is caught while he's in my belly and we can tackle it early on.

@lilteacherbee: Good luck at your glucose test!

@Ash: We're totally in the caboose together! End of the month due date, procrastinating on the nesting, and house projects!

@MrsCB: Glad to hear it was a non-issue for your friend. I did have one additional ultrasound, but for now, my next will be at 32 weeks. And then just the usual OB appointments.

@NeekieRose: Thanks! Definitely doing my best not to stress about it. And just talk to the little guy more about fixing it while he's in my belly

Good luck with your glucose test! Mine will be done during week 26, but maybe since yours is a 2 hour test it's fine to tackle it closer to 29?

@sweetooth: I'm sorry to hear about the kidney issue--fortunately, it sounds manageable and I'm sure it will be just fine. Doesn't help the worrying though, I'm sure.

I'm now in the every-two-weeks appointment phase--my next one is next Monday. I also had a follow-up ultrasound this week because at my 20-week appt. they thought my placenta was too close to my cervix. Fortunately, it moved up and all looks good. It was so fun to see baby again--he had his feet up by his head the whole time.

My glucose test is this Friday! They told me to plan on being there for three hours (boo).

@sweetooth: I'm sorry to hear about your little man, but take comfort in the fact that they detected it early and don't seem to be too concerned. I hope it goes away on it's own!

    @lilteacherbee: @NeekieRose: @DigAPony: Good luck tomorrow!

@sweetooth: Aw hugs, it's great that they caught it early and can monitor it. I've told myself that a few times "if no one else is worried about it, I shouldn't be either". they're the trained professionals, right?

@DigAPony: glad that worked itself out! & woohooo for 2 week appointments now!

@sweetooth: Sorry to hear about his kidneys - those mama instincts kick in quick, hopefully it resolves on it's own but I'm sure he'll be in good surgical hands if he needs help.

I passed my glucose test yesterday - yay! I couldn't get off the couch for 3 hours afterwards but at least I don't have to do it again. I don't really understand why I sugar crash so hard since it's not like I avoid sugar and I don't notice a crash like that when I'm just eating normal food.

They had originally said that they wanted to induce me at 40 weeks because of an anomaly with the umbilical cord. But now they said since it seems to be an isolated finding and my 1st LO was born at 40 weeks 3 days they'll wait until I go into labor on my own as long as things keep looking good - yay!

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Maysprout: Great news all around! Sorry you felt crappy after your test though!

Do your doctors predict that you will go late again with your second? My midwife thinks I will...she said "women usually follow their own pattern".

  15. Maysprout

    grapefruit / 4800 posts

@anbanan15: She didn't really say but it sounded like she didn't expect it to be too much later than the first time. When she found out when LO1 came she was like 'oh, you should be fine then, you probably won't make it to 41 weeks but we can start talking about membrane stripping or more gentle methods of induction if you do get to that point.'

The OB was in my husband's class so I kinda knew her, which might have been why everything thing seemed so much nicer this time and she definitely put my mind at ease. I don't see her for my next appointment but I think my later appointments I'm going to ask for her again - though I guess later appointments have cervical checks, which might me kinda weird with someone you know.....hmmmm.......guess we'll see if the next visit the OB is on the same page.

So I'm hanging out in the midwife waiting room after drinking the glucose drink and having the first blood draw. I have to say the drink wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be and I don't have too much of an issue with blood draws. Now this sitting around waiting is the most annoying part.

Hopefully the test comes back negative....they claim they have had fewer patients come back positive since switching to the 2 hour test vs the one then three hour test....

Had my appointment yesterday--passed the glucose test! They said the "standard" range was from 70-129 and I was at 101. I totally celebrated by getting Dairy Queen...

I also got my Rhogam shot and then a Tdap. I'm defffffinitely feeling the Tdap today--it screwed me over last night too as I was up 5 (FIVE, come ON) times to pee and I couldn't use my arm to hoist myself in/out/up/down in bed! Otherwise, baby is measuring right on track! I'm up about 3 pounds since my last appointment a month ago, so we'll see what ends up happening with that.

    @NeekieRose: Hope yours went well!!

  18. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@ms.janedoe: Awesome, right in the middle!! I think I'm doing the Tdap soon too. I always get so sore after shots, so I'm not looking forward to that!

  19. NeekieRose

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@ms.janedoe: I got the Tdap shot on Friday too and man was my arm sore all weekend! I have been trying to sleep on my left side but that was the arm that got the shot. No way I was able to sleep on that side for the last 3 nights.

Congrats on passing your glucose test! It takes up to 2 business days for me to get the results so if I don't get a phone call today or tomorrow then I am in the all clear. Hoping for no call...

I have an ultrasound this afternoon and it might be the last one we have! My dad is in town (he lives on the opposite side of the country) to help get the nursery set up by putting up beadboard so he will get to come to the ultrasound this afternoon. He hasn't seen an ultrasound in over 25 years so it should be interesting for him!

@NeekieRose: How great is that?! I'm sure that is going to be a really special moment!

I haven't heard anything about a Tdap shot.. I wonder when they will do mine?

@ms.janedoe: Woohoo for passing! ..annnd now I need Dairy Queen

  21. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@lilteacherbee: @NeekieRose: Tdap blows balls. It pisses me off even more because I just got one back in August at my "preconception appointment" so I wouldn't have to do it again when I was pregnant. I guess the rules changed or something... Lame. Anyway, it's feeling better today, so that's a plus!! The Rhogam on the other hand was totally fine!!

@NeekieRose: Good luck with your results!!
@MrsTiz: Dairy Queen, yes. Always. Do it.

So I had been told that I would only get a call from the midwives if there was something not good in my results (glucose and blood). If I didn't get a call by Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest I was good to go.

They just called. So of course I immediately think I failed the glucose test....I did not, whew. But I am a little anemic. Which doesn't really surprise me. Just need to take some iron supplements and I am good to go.

Thank goodness it wasn't the glucose results they were calling about!

  23. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@NeekieRose: Woohoo for passing! I have to take iron supplements too, so don't worry about that.

I have a 3D/4D ultrasound this afternoon. We're taking both sets of parents and both sisters, so..we're going to have a crowded room haha

I found out Monday that I passed my glucose test as well. Also got my Rhogam shot in my hip...fun.

    @MrsTiz: BUMMER!

I have an appointment to do the glucose challenge next week and I'm trying my hardest to get out of drinking the juice, lol. Not that I can't stomach the juice, I have twice before, but I'm really concerned about getting a false positive since I've basically cut out ALL grains and starches and refined sugars the last couple of weeks. What kind of shock is my body going to get with all that glucose in the drink and then throw up a high number? I really, really don't want to do the 3-hour test, particularly because I know I don't have GD. I'm hoping my MD will let me do a fasting test instead. It's a morning appointment (9:30 my time), I could handle waiting to eat (and drink?) until then.

  30. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: next Tuesday! We couldn't see anything except fingers and toes and couldn't get him to move

@MrsTiz: With DS I didn't get my TDap until immediately following delivery (within the first 24 hours). My practice doesn't give it during pregnancy, but recommended that DH get his a few months before baby way born.

So I went in for my 1 hour glucose test this morning and just got the call that I failed Their cut-off is 135 and mine was 148, so I'm going back next Friday for the 3 hour test. I'm hoping everything will be fine because I know that a lot of people fail the 1 hour and go on to pass the 3 hour.

  33. ShootingStar

@lilteacherbee: Aww, sorry you didn't pass the one hour :(. That's really close though, I'd guess you'll pass the three hour.

@lilteacherbee: Sorry to hear that you didn't pass the 1-hour glucose test. I have heard that a lot of people fail the 1 hr and pass the 3 hr. I hope you're one of those people

I had my glucose test this AM. It wasn't too bad. Now I just wait and see what the results say.

@FarmWifeGina: When is your test? Is it soon? I know you said sometime this week. I hear you on the false positive. I tried not to alter my eating habits too much. But it sounds like your changes/choices in diet have been so good. I hope you're able to do the test that you prefer.

@NeekieRose: Glad to hear you passed your glucose test!

@MrsTiz: Sorry to hear that the 3D/4D ultrasound had to be rescheduled. And with such a crowded room too! Will everyone be able to return with you to the rescheduled appointment?

    @Maysprout: thank you
Glad to hear that you passed your glucose test and that you won't have to be induced.

@lilteacherbee: Oh no! Sorry you didn't pass the 1 hour. Fingers crossed you get better results after the 3hr.

My test is scheduled for 9 this friday. I'm a tad bit nervous!!

  39. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@lilteacherbee: Oh I bet you'll be fine. That's what I heard, too--the majority of people that fail the 1 hour pass the 3 hour, fingers crossed for you!!!

@sweetooth: Good luck! Hopin' you pass (and then celebrate with something awful)!

  40. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@sweetooth: Yeah, it's one Wednesday morning. I talked to the nurse multiple times, but they didn't really agree with alternative tests for me, so I'm drinking the juice. Ah, well, I'll probably be fine, just like the first two times. But just in case, I've kinda introduced a few carbs back in just so my system doesn't freak out too much. If I do fail the 1-hour, I'll be asking for an A1C before I do the 3-hour just because I'm 95% sure I don't have and won't get GD and I think it's really ridiculous to put my body through something like that just to prove I don't have a condition that me and my doctor ate pretty sure I don't have anyways!
