@MrsCB: I'm 22 weeks too and I've been saying 6 mo if someone insists on knowing the number of months vs weeks. I'm so over only being 5 mo lol...I feel like at 6+ mo (also after 24+ weeks) people start to take pregnancy seriously. Before that I always got a lot of "oh you have awhile yet"...maybe I do? But I have also been pregnant for awhile

@MrsTiz: Yeah, it's kind of weird. I was just telling DH I like the one you posted better. My thinking was: pregnancy is ~9 months long, right? So you shouldn't have to complete 38 weeks to say you're 9 months along. Not sure if my logic is making sense though, lol.

@anbanan15: Yeah I felt like the last 2 months took forever! Seems like at 22 weeks we should be further along than 5 months. So I've decided to go with @MrsTiz's chart, lol. Even though technically I've only completed 5 months, I'm still in the 6th month.

August 6th I have to do my one hour test!

Next appointment is August 22. Just another boring one.

Everything looks good. Baby is super active.

So, I have another "touch base" appointment with my back-up doctor on the 31st. She said if I want to, she can do a quick scan on the ugly, old u/s machine in the office to try and catch the gender. Hmmmmmm... My feelings against unnecessary ultrasounds is being severely tested.

  7. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@FarmWifeGina: I vote for the ultrasound. If they weren't safe, they wouldn't do them I've had at least a handful more than you and no one has batted an eye at it. Plus, then you will know for sure what your LO is!

    I'm an enabler

@FarmWifeGina: Would you be more: disappointed in yourself that you did it, or excited that you found out?!

My vote is to DO IT!!

  12. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@lilteacherbee: I don't know! I've kinda adjusted back to being Team Green and being ok with it. But beings that I'm struggling with some feelings of gender preference and I do NOT want to have to work through that on the big day, I'll probably go ahead and do it.

  13. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@FarmWifeGina: I would do it for your peace of mind. Which, in a way, makes it necessary. For me, it was easier to find out we're not having the gender I would have liked, and have time to deal with it. I know myself, and as much I would've loved him right away at delivery, if I'd waited I would have been really upset when I found out. And then really upset that I was upset over it.

  14. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

    @MrsCB: Yep, that sounds right.

  15. FarmWifeGina

And since DH won't have the day off to go with me, I'm going to see if I can get a gender reveal cupcake made at one of my regular grocery stops, Sam's Club or something.

    @FarmWifeGina: I wouldn't do it. Just sayin'.

  17. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@Ash: Why not? Don't want to stay Team Green alone? Lol, it's so insane because it's not even a question for many people, but my crunchy, no-unnecessary-procedures side and what I really want are seriously at odds.

  18. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@FarmWifeGina: Not because of the team green but because of your exact reasoning for not wanting an additional u/s. And I think the health of Cricket matters more than finding out. But that's just my opinion. Which is the same as yours lol!

  19. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@Ash: Baha, I could justify another short u/s since I'm not having anymore Doppler monitoring with this pregnancy since my midwife uses a fetascope. I probably won't decide until I'm there and if the doctor remembers that she offered it and brings it up.

  20. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@FarmWifeGina: I say do it! This would only be your second u/s this pregnancy correct (I can't remember but don't think you had a dating u/s)? That is right in line with what seems to be the "normal" amount for most women and no where near excessive, IMO. I think 1-3 is a good amount without being overlay monitored, over exposed, but that's just my personal opinion.

So I had a normal midwife appointment this morning, everything is looking good. I had expected them to tell me that I would be doing the one hour glucose test.

Apparently my midwives don't do the one hour screening. Instead all of their patients do a two hour test. Kinda sounds like a hybrid of the one hour and three hour tests. You have to fast before the test and they draw your blood before the drink, one hour after, and then two hours after.

Good news is that there is only one test, so if I fail it I don't have to take another one....hopefully that won't happen though!

  22. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@NeekieRose: I've heard of different offices doing this or automatically failing their patients regardless of how they did on the 1 hour and making them do the 3 hour anyway.

Good luck! It's not *that* bad and once it's down and done it's done! It's the sitting and waiting around that stinks the most.

  23. FarmWifeGina

@anbanan15: Yeah, I know. It's not like it's out of the norm- but it's still the principle of the thing!!!! Lol.

I had a good ultrasound today. I'm about 26-1/2 weeks and have been having them more frequently because at my 20 week they saw the umbilical cord only had one artery so they want to check up that the rest of baby keeps growing normally. But baby is growing great, they estimate that she's 2 lbs 3 oz, which is in the 57th percentile and everything else looked good. So that was all reassuring news and this little girl is on track to be bigger than my first girl despite her lonely little artery, as long as she keeps growing good.

Ok, *sheepish* I didn't get my scan today. God must want me to stay Team Green. Whatevs, I knew finding out was too good to be true. My doctor's appointment was at 10:30 and I was supposed to be there at 10:15 for labs, which I was. I didn't see the doctor until 11:20. And, of course, I had another appointment that I had to make at 11:30. Which resulted in a very quick listen and measure appointment. But I'm measuring 5 cm. ahead (not unusual for me or any other woman in my family), so if I'm still measuring further ahead than "normal" when I see her at 28 weeks for my glucose screening and Rhogam, I'll get another ultrasound then, or at least an appointment for one. I know my doctor is trying to super responsible since she's backing my home birth 95 miles from the hospital (the big hospitals, anyways), but I was a little annoyed that she was worrying about my size, especially since I have a personal and family history and its always resolved itself by 36 weeks or so. She's worried about high fluid levels, which I know is exactly what's going on because that's what happened with me before, but apparently in some cases there really is too much fluid and the uterus ruptures. Which, I really don't think is going to happen, but yeah, anyways. So that was my NON-GENDER-FINDING-OUT appointment.

  33. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@FarmWifeGina: Maybe they can sneak a peek at the 28 week if you're still measuring ahead.

@Ash: Yep, that's the bright side.

@FarmWifeGina: I think you're meant to stay team green Don't you just hate it when the office is running so behind that you don't get seen for an hour? It's great that your doctor is raising the concerns, but it's nice that you know your body and your history so you can process the worry without much stress.

  36. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@FarmWifeGina: If it makes you feel better... our baby is team green too - doesn't want us to find out for anything! Both ultrasounds, we've been told the legs are crossed. My guess it's a little girl already acting like a lady!!

  37. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@sweetooth: Yeah, it was kind of annoying- especially because I got in really quick the other time I was there. And I'm pretty sure the doctor was in with the patient in the next room and they were talking foreeeeevvvverrrr. Which was all well and great for that patient, but I was like, c'mon, Doc, *I* wanna see you now!!!! But I wish we'd had a chance to discuss the the excess fluid thing a little more. Just for my own curiosity- no one in my family has ever had GD, but excess fluid and measuring large and gaining an average of 40+ lbs. is all very common and I've been wondering about some markers pointing to PCOS in the women of my family, despite our crazy fertility. Anyways, rambling, sorry.
But yeah, I guess God wants us to stay Team Green, lol. Or wants me to get over my gender preference on my own or something, haha.
One cool thing that happened in this short appointment was that I mentioned that I was going to be interviewing with a potential doula client and my doctor was really excited about me being a doula (I hadn't brought it up before) and just about doulas in general. So maybe next time I'll ask if she'd refer patients looking for a doula to me. Or at least, put me on a list. It didn't sound like she really knew of any others in the area.

@FarmWifeGina: Such a bummer, but there is still a possibility next month if you really want to know! I still think I know the gender though

I had an endocrinologist appointment (for GD) last week, and I'm still upset over it. I think I need to change doctors, but they make it so difficult because my midwife, the diabetes nurse, and the endocrinologist all coordinate together. But even DH (who makes excuses for everyone and always sees someone else's point of view) said she was being a b*tch to me.

For one, I think she's behind the times in the use of oral medications like Metformin for the treatment of GD. I've read the medical studies and even asked around here, and it seems really common now to stay on it. And it helps me SO much. She gave me a huge amount of attitude about it and was using some scare tactics to try to get me to change my mind.

And then, she basically called me fat to my face and made me feel awful. I asked if I should stay on a special diet after DS is born, until they do a 2 hour glucose test at 6 weeks to determine if I no longer have GD/am pre-diabetic (like I was pre-preg) but instead have type 2 diabetes. She was like "well you should lose the baby weight." So I told her at this point I was actually negative for weight. And kind of nastily asked me what that meant. So I told her I'm down 15-20 pounds since I got pregnant. She gave me this look and was like "Yes but your weight is..." and I cut her off because I didn't want her to say it in front of DH (it's like the one secret we still have). I felt like she might as well have said "yes but you're fat so you need to lose more."

And then she was telling me that some women felt deprived during pregnancy from GD and they stuff their faces with junk. And she was telling me to exercise post partum. When I questioned her on it since I know that I likely won't get cleared to do much more than walk around before my 6 week post partum visit, she said with an attitude, "well no one expects you to look like Britney Spears." I walked out of their wavering between wanting to cry and being extremely angry.

@MrsCB: That sounds horrible! I don't think it would hurt to get a second opinion! My only concern would be the wait to get into another endo? Is there another one in your area?

I know there is basically only one endo practice in my area and they take patients based on case and if the endo feels their case needs to be seen by a specialist. For my Hashimoto's it took me 6 months to finally get in.
