@Cara M. 17: My office has you cycle through the OBs so I have mostly been staying away from my original OB. But 2 weeks ago my appointment had to be rescheduled last minute and she was the only one available. I'm trying to stay open-minded because you get whoever is on call the day of your delivery. And I have this feeling if I really don't like one...that will be the one that shows up at my delivery.

@sweetooth: What a bummer! I hope that this OB is not the one that delivers you!

So um, something's happening down there. I went to the bathroom and there's a light amount of blood. I'm trying not to get excited. I'm also a little crampy, but that could be stupid gas again from laying down all day.

@sweetooth: Ugh frustrating about the appointment! My office does the same thing- making you see all the doctors. I actually haven't seen MY OB since I was 4 weeks (I already had an appointment set up to talk about my late ovulation and possibly starting meds and I got a BFP a couple days before). I hear you though- I never wanted to NOT like one because I figured that would be the one to deliver. That's one of the nice things about a scheduled c-section, I got to pick who I wanted.

@ShootingStar: Eeeek, my fingers are crossed!

    @Mrs. J: Me too!

@ShootingStar: Why would you have gas from laying down all day? I'm just curious.

@lilteacherbee: That would be so nice to be able to pick my OB...I'm happy that you have just who you want!

@sweetooth: Fingers crossed that she is no where to be found on delivery day! I wonder if you could discreetly mention that you are not comfortable with her to one of the doctors or nurses? And just ask to not see her unless absolutely necessary?

@ShootingStar: ohhh!!!! So excited for you!!!! Keep us posted!!!!!

So I think it was just a little of my mucus plug coming out. I checked my cervix and I all of sudden feel a little more open, whereas before it was completely closed. So not exactly in labor (I think) but I'll take it! I've been afraid they'd go to induce me and I'd be 0cm dilated.

@ShootingStar: I was just coming on to check for an update! Eek. It totally could've been your mucous plug. Yay!

Hi all! Harper Marie was born at 11:56 this morning abd we couldn't be happier!!! 8 pounds abd 8 ounces, 18.5", and a FULL head of hair!!! She LOVES to latch and suck, and my nipples are trying to keep up...holy balls though!! She also loves to be held, so it's been a sleepless night so far...which isn't bad cause she's so freaking cute!!

I'm doing well, a little sore, and trying to figure out a good vs bad latch... Dh is a rockstar and changed all 4 poopy diapers so far. More tomorrow!!!

@sweetooth: Hoping you get a good OB on the big day!
@shootingstar: Thinking of you & excited for your progress!
@ms.janedoe: What a beautiful photo! Congratulations!

We had another growth scan yesterday -- the tech was like, "So November 14 is your due date, right?" She was a different tech than the one we've had all along and insisted that my EDD should be based off the first 7-week ultrasound, bumping it back by FIVE FREAKING DAYS. Ugh. And the prenatal nurse agreed, but then the doctor said we'd stick with regular doctor's date of November 9 (he's away for the week so this appointment was for me to meet the doc covering him). If baby isn't here by my next appointment, Tuesday, I'm definitely asking my regular doctor what's up -- I know it's an arbitrary date but that tech almost made me cry!

My mom went home yesterday, too, so it was a pretty emotional day around here. And we found out that my FIL, who injured himself recently, is likely getting transferred to our local hospital which is great except it means his wife might be attempting to crash at our house which is soooooo not what we need right now, especially with my dad arriving in a matter of days.

Kinda feeling like being a hermit and locking my doors, haha! I hope everyone else is doing well. I can't believe how much the days are ticking down!

@MrsDragon: I SOOO know what you mean about wanting to be a hermit and lock the doors Sorry to hear about your FIL's injury, hopefully he recovers soon and you don't have to house his wife and your dad AND a new baby. I also wish you could have had your mom around - HUGS! I think those growth scans are a bunch of bull. Your baby will be here before you know it.

My husband and I had a little explosion this AM. I hate fighting right now - and it's all just fueled by heightened emotions. The renovation, the dwindling time to prepare for baby, the impending holidays and the people who want to be here for the baby and the holidays. I'm also getting emotional thinking about the birth, and the recovery, and knowing myself and wishing I could just have a baby NOT around the holidays. I don't want to have to be merry and bright.

This year both my husband and I lost our maternal grandmas. My loss was in May, his was just a few weeks ago. I feel this pressure to provide some sort of glimmer of hope for our moms during the holidays. TOO much pressure! I just want to get through this...I know we will. But right now, it's overwhelming me. And I really want these stupid contractors out of our house.

    rant over.

@sweetooth: On the plus side, our house is set up with sort of a basement apartment -- so my husband promised me that if she needs to stay here he's going to set some ground rules about using the basement as a seperate space, knocking on doors, that kind of thing, so it's less of a stepmother-in-my-space thing and more of a temporary situation.

I totally feel you on renovations + impending baby stress! Pretty much all of October was like that for me, and now I've just given up on the house being pretty until some undetermined time in the future. I hope those contractors hurry up!!

@ms.janedoe: Congrats, mama! She is beautiful, just like her mama!

So, due date is here...nothing so far. Feeling a lot more pressure the last few days, but we'll see! I go to the midwife at 2, so we'll see what she says.

@sweetooth: ugh, sorry to hear about your fight and the loss of your grandmothers. It must be tough, especially with the holidays coming up. Lots of hugs your way!

@ms.janedoe: okay, and I've probably told you this, but you have the best eyebrows I have ever seen. Seriously.

@ms.janedoe: Congrats, I can't wait to see more pics!

@sweetooth: I'm sorry you guys are fighting, DH and I get like that too when we're under stress.

@MrsDragon: I wouldn't put too much stock in your due date, unless you're hoping for an induction if you go too long. Usually the first ultrasound is the most accurate for dating, but it seems like you'd know if you were 5 days off, unless you waited a really long time to test.

AFM, I had another NST today. BP was all over the place, but baby was looking good. And I was contracting regularly the entire time. So I wasn't crazy last night :D. But considering they were just a minute or two apart and pretty mild, it seems to be just BH. But, I'll take that as a good sign, since this is the first time I've been feeling them all pregnancy. My mom was telling me that she had BH for a few days before she went into real labor, so I'm really hoping that I'll have a similar experience.

@MrsDragon: Hey 11/14 isn't a bad birthday to have but I totally get where your going with that. Good luck mama!

@ShootingStar: ohhh something is going on! I bet baby isn't too far off!

@MrsDragon: The basement apartment is a definite perk/plus. And yay for your husband setting up the ground rules. // I should probably try to think like you and let go of things being "just so" before the baby arrives due to the timing of this renovation. The hard part is that the contractors are working hard, it's just little blips that keep coming up and my architect husband's design details causing issues in the final days.

@Mrs. J: Thank you And here's hoping that since you are at your due date you're not far away from meeting your little one!

@ShootingStar: We usually don't fight - I think there's just a lot built up right now. And these pregnancy hormones are no joke. // Glad to hear that your NST went well today and you learned of your mild BH. Here's hoping that you and your mom have similar experiences

@sweetooth: I know what you mean. We lost my grandfather in April and I know my family is looking to the baby to make things a little less sad this year. It's tough, especially on top of the fact that I was really close to my grandfather and its hitting me hard that he won't be here this year. It's almost like I'm pressuring MYSELF because I need to be happy instead of sad

  32. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@lilteacherbee: Can we blame the pregnancy hormones for adding to the emotional weight of it all? I remember that you suffered a loss too this year. Hugs! We can't be too hard on ourselves. The whole range of emotions is important to acknowledge. Happy and sad.

So, I went to the midwife, and I have progressed to only 1.5cm dilated and 30% effaced. Wahoo. haha. Still hoping something happens this weekend!!!

@ms.janedoe: Yay, congrats! Great picture, and I love her name.

    ---

I got checked at my appointment yesterday--I'm 50% effaced and just a fingertip dilated (due date was Monday). I was just so relieved that SOMETHING is happening; I was afraid the midwife would tell me I was completely closed up.

Re: losses--my grandfather passed away in March (he's the first grandparent I've lost) so I'm also feeling anxious about the inevitable sadness and strangeness that will affect the upcoming holidays. I'm hoping baby will put a bright spot on all of it.

Baby is seriously moving around today -- tons of cervical pain, but she also picked up a new trick of jamming her butt up and over so it's turned out and right in the middle of my belly, which looks SO weird! She's usually on one side or the other, but she's shifted into this bizarre diagonal position complete with poky little toes coming out my side.

It got me out of the house, though, because Mr. D insisted we go for a walk to try to get her to shift into a more comfortable place. He ended up taking the afternoon off to hang out with me and clean the house a bit.

I'm so exhausted - it's been a crazy long day so I'll read and respond to everyone after my appt tomorrow... but I've been having crazy amounts of braxton hicks today. It's 745 and I'm going to bed. We'll see what I'm dilated to tomorrow (I'm not getting my hopes up)... Just concerned about these bh. Fingers crossed they're nothin.

  38. ShootingStar

@Ash: I was having them every 2 minutes or so at my NST today and the nurse didn't seem to care whatsoever. After talking to my mom, I'll be more concerned/excited when they space out, as opposed to coming on top of each other.

@ShootingStar: my midwife has always said to call if I have 6+ an hour but I'm going to try to go to sleep - If they're serious, I'll know! Lol!

Congrats to our new mamas! So exciting to see the new babies coming!

I did end up attending a birth this weekend (and missed my friend's that I was going to photograph ). It was a 48-hour elective induction, of which I was there for most of, and pretty brutal, but completely satisfying for all parties involved. Hilariously, the old school doctor that looked like Santa Clause kept shooting me these looks and asking me if *I* was contracting. LOL.
So then I came home and recovered from the lack of sleep for a day or two and then promptly GOT SICK! Ugh, so not cool. It's either a bad, bad cold or strep throat, I'm not sure, but it's awful and I'm just praying to feel like myself again and have healthy kids again SOON. And now I also keep having dreadful insomnia for hours and hours at night, or else indigestion that has me throwing up. Blah. Not to mention, I have 600+ wedding pictures to final cull and edit within the next week. And I still haven't ordered my home birth supply kit. Oops. Let's just say that I am a little stressed out and just wishing for the chance to relax and best and enjoy these last two weeks or so, but, yeah...I am probably the only person on this board who's sincerely HOPING to go overdue!
